I'm back with another Nordstrom Sale roundup! The sale has been great so far! I really have to commend Nordstrom for putting a plethora of brands a price points on sale for every kind of shopper out there. What I really commend them on though is sharing plenty of autumnal wear too, as we gear up for fall.
I shared on Instagram my dislike for the "Nordstrom Sale culture" that seems to flock Instagram for three weeks while the sale is going on. I received an overwhelming amount of responses from readers with feelings similar to mine. Many readers shared their thoughts on how they look to bloggers to share affordable pieces and take their reader's budget into account. Before we go too far, let me put in on record that I have seen plenty of wonderful bloggers share roundups that run the gamut of budgets and styles -- I commend them! I will say though, I've seen plenty of influencers covering the sale who haven't done the same.
For the most part, Daily Dose of Prep is a space where I share good quality, affordable clothing that I hope my readers can share in. I try to stick to the "if I can't buy it, then I won't share it" mentality. Of course a few things slip through the cracks. That being said, don't think for a second you have to compromise style for price! That's why I so enjoy the #NSale -- because it allows you to splurge on style without spending every penny you own.
After a few days of window-shopping the early access sale, I've found some truly beautiful statement and staple pieces for your wardrobe, all under $100. Most products are around $60, which is absolutely affordable! Everything I'm sharing is linked below. Keep in mind the sale is happening right now for Nordstrom card holders, but opens to the general public online and in stores on July 19th! Happy shopping!
The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is upon us! I have a love-hate relationship with the Nordstrom Sale and everything that comes with it. I hate the excessive buying just to buy that bloggers flaunt all over social media and the "I can afford this, so everyone can too!" attitude that seems to be popping up all over feeds. Last year, I finally had to just get off social for a few days! That being said, I think the sale itself is great. As a blogger, I can't afford a majority of the things the sale offers its clients but from a practical perspective, I'm a college intern! The sale is so amazing though because it offers shoppers of all styles and price points the ability to shop for something special. If you shop inexpensive brands like TopShop and J. Crew, the sale has plenty for you. The same goes for all your corporate gals making a yearly salary! If you are interested in completely redoing your wardrobe, you can buy affordable brand names in bulk. On the other hand, you can buy the designer boots you've been saving up for. This truly is the one sale where just about anything you could possibly want in your closet is on sale. Take the advantage of splurging on a designer item or finally cross off a few items on your wishlist. The sale offers every shopper the ability to find something they love.
The sale is already on for those who are Nordstrom Card Holders. You can join the 'Nordy Club' here to get your Nordstrom card. If you aren't interested in that, then you can shop the sale starting July 19th (that's when I'll be shopping!). Just know though that those 'rare sale' items like Tory Burch totes and T3 hair tools will probably be sold out by the time the sale opens up to everyone.
I combed through every sale article, blog post, and try on haul I could find and looked through every page of the Nordstrom Sale catalog and picked out 50+ favorites featured in the sale. My personal favorites are the quilted Barbour jacket, Sam Edelman single breasted coat, Rag and Bone wool hat, and BaubleBar beauty set. Everything depicted below is stoppable at the bottom of the post! Happy shopping!
Clothing - The clothing at the Nordstrom sale consists of affordable brands like Levi's, J.Crew, Halogen and Topshop. It also features more expensive favorites like Barbour, Patagonia, REFORMATION, and Tibi. I rounded up my favorite clothing items I found in the catalog and through the sneak peek. I have to say, the knockout brand this year in the clothing department is Barbour. quilted and wax jackets are bountiful this sale, all at a great place. The Violet and the Shoreline jackets are both on sale in popular color ways. The two jackets resemble the popular Beadnell which is not on sale this year.
The sale also features a ton of great fall clothes. From rich fall florals and beautiful plaids, you don't have to wait to start curating your autumn wardrobe. I'm obsessed with this Veronica Beard blazer and this Sam Edelman Single Breasted blazer coat.
Shoes - Of course Nordstrom supplied shoppers with hundreds of great shoes to shop. Again, fall footwear outshines the rest with knee-high and over the knee boots on incredible markdown. The Yakira over the knee boot is slimming with the point toe but so stylish for cooler months. If you want a more modest and practical shoe, the Halogen Lucy Calf Hair Loafer is so cute!
Accessories - I think accessories are all around fabulous this year. If you are looking for a new bag, a new watch, a piece of expensive jewelry, a great fall hat, or other fall layers then you should absolutely shop the sale. I personally think I need the Rag and Bone felt hat in my closet before October hits. I can already see it styled with so many cute things on the blog. If you have been looking to treat yourself or someone you love to jewels or anything designer, I would recommend taking a look at this section of the sale. Truthfully, I would start stocking up for Christmas gifts here. Who doesn't want a versatile Tory Burch tote or mixed metal watch?? There are a ton of designer sunglasses feature this year as well. Versace, Fendi, and Gucci are all featured!
Beauty - The knockout items this year for beauty are the T3 hair tools on major sale. You can buy the hair dryer, flat iron, and ever-popular curling iron for a fraction of the regular price. You and me b0th have seen these curling irons all over every bloggers feed over the past two years and now it's finally time to treat yourself to you! The T3 items are going to be one of the first things to sell out. The beauty section is also featuring fabulous designer cosmetics at great prices. Buy Charlotte Tilbury, Dior, Chanel, Bobbi Brown at amazing discounts!
Home & Travel - I don't think the home sale is as great as the other categories. I personally don't want to spend $150 on a silk pillowcase, but if you're looking to do so, you can save a little money! I think the best thing to shop in this section are all of the suitcases. Every adult needs a sturdy and reliable suitcase to grab for when they go on vacation or away for a business trip. Shop for your luggage at the Nordstrom sale! Luggage is already expensive, you might as well buy great quality items on sale!
After many requests, I’m back with another YouTube video! This highly requested video is answering your recruitment questions. There are a few topics that I get asked about on a daily basis and recruitment and greek life seem to always float among the FAQ’s. Understandably so! Going through recruitment is a daunting and emotional process. I would say I’m a seasoned recruitment veteran by now seeing as I’ve gone through recruitment from every possible angle (minus a Rho Gamma, but we’ll get into that). This post is the first of many recruitment posts for the summer. I know many of you will start rush in just a few short weeks so these will be frequent and packed with information to be as helpful to you as possible.
As previously mentioned, I have gone through recruitment several times all in different positions. First as a PNM. What is a PNM? Good question. A PNM is a “potential new member”. If you are someone looking to join a sorority then you are classified as a PNM. I spent my sophomore year going through recruitment as a recruiter from the sister side of things. A recruiter is an already initiated sister who recruits PNM’s. You hold conversations with the PNM and then vote on her after the round is finished based on if she fits the values of whatever sorority you are in. As a junior I went through recruitment as a member of the “tabs team”. This is an ADPi specific term, however every sorority has a committee similar to this one. Basically, I was on a team that helped make sure recruitment ran smoothly from behind the scenes rather than recruiting PNM’s. I helped make sure lines were in the correct order, rounds were on time, chants were on time, and that PNM’s and sisters were accounted for. Basically, we were like the stage crew for the sister side of recruitment and handled sensitive information.
This year, I’m the Recruitment and Marketing Vice President and sit on the executive committee of ADPi at JMU. Essentially this means that I am in charge of recruitment for ADPi. I teach the chapter how to properly recruit, help pick our what the chapter will wear, choose how the house will be decorated, teach our pref night rituals, and so much more. Of course, I can’t do this job alone so I have a team that consists of the president, the recruitment information manager and the formal recruitment chair. Recruitment simply wouldn’t be what it is without them! I manage this team to make sure that recruitment runs smoothly when the PNM’s step into the house. When recruitment actually happens in the fall the formal recruitment chair, president and I stand as the hosts for the week.
From all of these angles, I am definitely qualified to help you navigate the ins and outs of everything formal recruitment. Today’s video shares my answers to your frequently asked recruitment questions. I answer questions about what to bring with you, how to manage greek related expenses, how to take on leadership positions, what to talk about during rounds, and so much more! Take a look and leave a like and comment. Make sure to subscribe so you don’t miss next week’s video!
First Weekly Skinny of being 21! I had a fantastic weekend with my friends and family -- thank you to those who wished me well into my 21st year! Since we last spoke, I've been head over heels for a few different things and I couldn't wait to share with you! Also be on the lookout for a YouTube video from me tomorrow!
Starbucks Blueberry Black Tea Refresher - If you read my birthday post here, you know that I still don’t drink coffee. This definitely helps save money at Starbucks, but every now and then I treat myself to a refresher or flavored tea. Right now I am loving the tangy, sweet, refreshing combination that is the Blueberry Black Tea Lemonade. You have to try it!
Stranger Things 3 - The third season of Stranger Things aired on Netflix on July 4th and I finished it in two days. It was very different from the first two seasons seeing as Will was a help to solving the issue, rather than needing saving from his friends. Personally, I favored this season over the other two because there were more layers and characters. I liked how three different storylines crossed in the penultimate episode too to come together in the end towards one greater cause. The ending will wreck you though, watch with tissues.
Wide-Cut Shorts - On my Birthday I popped into H&M to use my insider b-day coupon code and found these cute little shorts on a crowded and overlooked rack. I have since worn them three times and plan on going back for more! These high waisted shorts are wide cut, feature an elastic waist and have pockets!! They also run true to size. Best part?? They’re $12.
For The Throne Album - Game of Thrones has been over for a month now (still slightly bitter), but a new album came out with the wrap of the show called “For The Throne”. This album features some of my favorite artists like Maren Morris, Lennon Stella, and the Lumineers. The songs make me want to drive through the mountains in the fall for hours. If you’re into that vibe, you need to find this album on Spotify.
Notch Neck Top - Stylish athleisure-wear is one of the hottest fashion markets right now. People are busy and active so they want to be comfortable, but they don’t want to compromise their sense of style. Because of this, women are gravitating more towards stylish and slimming and frankly fashionable athletic wear. This notch neck sweatshirt top is soft, warm, and flattering with a pair of high waisted leggings and a really cool looking sneaker. It’s perfect for running errands, yoga, or throwing on with a pair of jeans and sandals for a casual but comfortable look.
The Society Season 2- As Netflix announced the removal of Friends, they also announced that they will be filming a new season of “The Society”, a Lord of the Flies”-esque show set in modern day Connecticut. This show stars Kathryn Newton from Big Little Lies and Alex Fitzalan from Slender Man. I love this show because it has unthinkable twists in the plot. Second season comes out in 2020.
Happy 4th of July! Tomorrow is my birthday which makes today the last day of my 20th circle around the sun. As I reflect back on the past 364 days, I have very little complaints about my 20th year. I did a lot in the last year and I loved just about every second of my 20th year. Let’s talk about 20 things this year taught me...
If you want to do it all, you can. You just need to find the passion and have the drive to make it all work. Don’t be too proud to ask for help. Connections and help from others is what can put you head and shoulders above the competition. Just remember to write a thank you note.Throw a freaking party. It’ll be fun.Fill your days from sunrise to sunset so when you have a spare day, you can truly appreciate its laziness. It’s okay to recognize when a relationship has run its course. Marie Kondo that ish. Thank it for what it was in your life and move on.Make it a habit to spend time with the people you’re “meaning to catch up with”. You never know if you’ll actually get the chance to do so before they’re gone.Guacamole. Is. Amazing. The three things you should invest in are a nice coat, a nice pair of jeans, and a nice pair of black shoes.Everyone is going through a difficult time, bad day, or rough patch. Some people talk about it and some people don’t. Just because someone doesn’t talk about it doesn’t mean it’s all coming up roses.Coffee is still gross.Church is home anywhere you go. A day in by yourself is sometimes much better than a day out with friends. Personal days are just what the doctor ordered sometimes.Who cares about cake in a mug? Make the whole damn sheet of brownies and eat them in one sitting. You’ll come across a fair amount of very unprofessional “professionals” in life. Just because they lack professionalism doesn’t give you a pass to do the same.If you’re about to lose your mind, call your mom. Even at 1AM. She might not be able to help you, but she can at least listen and that’s half the purpose-- just trying to be heard.Jeopardy is still relevant and now my roommates finally understand.Learn to cook at least one of your family's favorite recipes. That way after a long day, you’re able to feel like you’re home even if you’re not. It’s okay to be selfish and put yourself first. How can you help others if you can’t help yourselfFocus on your goals before focusing on a college relationship. Do as much as you can in college. Before you know it, you’re a washed up senior. Make sure you don’t look back and have regrets.
Twenty was a great year for me all around. I was emotionally and mentally well all year. I enjoyed being with old friends and made plenty of new friends. I learned a lot about myself. I learned I still hate coffee and true crime shows and tequila. I learned a love guacamole and Downton Abbey and sangria. I pushed myself beyond my comfort zone, took on leadership roles, and even started a company. I held two internships, worked two jobs, and earned a 3.8 GPA. I dove further into my faith, said goodbye to loved ones, and took a few trips. I can’t complain about 20 and I’m raising a glass to 21, legally I might add.
Need an easy Fourth of July look?? Well I have a great one for you. Nothing is more summery than stripes and white shorts. When combined with fun and festive accessories, you're sure to have a fabulous and festive outfit. Today I am sharing an easy and lad back look for the Fourth of July. This look is entirely from J.Crew and was purchased completely on sale. The best part of this look, is you can find this look at any store or at any price point.
I personally think that J.Crew sells the best t-shirts. Their signature tees and perfect fit tees are well made, form fitting, soft, and comfortable. They are affordable and run true to size. These ruffled shorts are from last year, but J.Crew has similar pairs online -- they're linked down below!
To give this look a firecracker edge, I styled it with my gold glitter Old Skool Vans. I purchased these shoes years ago (like 2017) so I couldn't find a link. Any sparkly sneaker, sandal, or espadrille will do! I also styled this look with my medium gold hoops from Madewell.
Another trip around the sun almost complete and another year almost behind me. It's weird to think that I'm almost 21. The last of the "milestone birthdays" until I turn 40 I guess. I loved being 20 and I'll share more on exactly why on Friday, but for now, let me share my birthday wishlist.
I say it every year, but I don't have a long running list of things to ask for for my birthday. You would think by now I would keep a running list so I don't scramble to ask for something every July and yet...here we are. There are only 6 things I can even think of to ask for this year and after three days of intense online shopping and Instagram stalking, I just can't think of anything that I can't live without. I shared below that the most practical gift for me this year is a new phone. My poor iPhone7 is dying quickly. I'll be on my own cellphone plan in April though, so I might as well try to hold on until then.
One thing I absolutely love is the DelBrenna cross necklace. Kate from Lonestar Southern shared it over a year ago and ever since then, I have always adored it. Being Catholic, it's impossible to have jewelry without a cross necklace. I think maybe I should upgrade to this one!!
There are a few accessories and clothes I've had my eye on for a while now so I threw those in the mix. A new set of pearl studs, Ray Ban sunglasses, or navy Tretorn sneakers. One item I didn't include in the graphic but love are these platform espadrilles from J.Crew. I keep going back to the store to try them on, and then I leave empty-handed. I linked them below!
Lastly, one thing I will eventually buy is a Day Designer agenda. I love the Daisy prints and maybe it would be a nice gift that guaranteed to be loved!
I've raved and raved about this palm tree bodysuit for what feels like months now and I'm not finished! This double-lined, tie shoulder cotton bodysuit is the epitome of summertime and you need it in your closet. It's less expensive than your Chipotle order and it's selling quickly.
This $10 bodysuit is perfect for the beach and looks great with white, black, or denim. Whether you style it with denim shorts, a white skirt, black jeans, or your favorite pair of shorts, this versatile palm bodysuit should be your next purchase!
I styled this statement piece in a simple fashion. Summertime calls for easy fashion and a laid-back style which is exactly what I employed for this look. With the palm bodysuit, I threw on my H&M button-fly high waisted shorts and my medium thick Madewell hoops. I then put on a simple sneaker and off I went. Shop the look below!
Another week, another weekly skinny. What a crazy two weeks it’s been awhile since my last W.S. post! I’ve been to the beach and back (twice now) and I’ve gotten considerably tanner. The summer is flying by and I’m already shopping for a few things to add to my apartment and recruitment outfits. I swear, I can’t go a day without mentioning recruitment!! Don’t worry greek girlies, posts for you are coming soon to the blog and YouTube. For now, let’s talk about what I’ve been loving.
What I’m Drinking: Lime La Croix
What I’m Eating: Salt & black pepper pretzel chips
Downton Abbey - Before anyone yells, yes I know this show ended two years ago. Just recently, I finally came to the end of my “to watch” list and needed a new show. Every time I mentioned needing a new show my mom recommended Downton and every time I ignored her. I just don’t care about British nobility really...until now. This show is so good. I get now why everyone raved about it. Some of it is very predictable but most is incredibly well written with plenty of twists to keep dull events of the 20’s exciting. You can watch on Amazon Prime just in time before the movie releases in September.
J.Crew Sale - Just when I think I’ve built up a tolerance to the J.Crew sale section, they always draw me back in. J.Crew just added over 1000 items to their online sale with an additional 40% off code “BIG” for even bigger savings. I may or may not have spent my lunch break a few days ago sifting through everything on the site and snagging a few bargains too. Things are already selling out fast so check it out before things go!
Bravazzi - Every time I go to the beach I discover a new drink! I saw one ad on Instagram for this canned spiked Italian soda and saw it displayed at the store and thought “why not?”. Goodness, this is delicious. It’s sweet and fruity, almost like Fresca. I would be amazing in mixed drinks and cocktails. There are several citrus flavors available and the price is competitive with nationally known canned drinks.
Lilly Pulitzer Remix - On Thursday, Lilly Pulitzer re-released a ton of old popular prints that sold out too soon! Two of them are my all time favorites, so I’m happy to see them back. Not only are these prints so cute, but they are being sold in some of the most popular silhouettes Lilly has to offer. I’m so happy I managed to get my hands on the Jesse Ruffle Romper!
Zara Sale - I love end of June and early July because that’s when semi-annual sale season starts. Not only does J.Crew have a spectacular sale right now. But so does Zara. This upscale, yet affordable store has thousands of trendy items on sale spanning four season fashion. For my 21st birthday, I’m looking to Zara for my celebration outfit!
Viral Engagement - This epic engagement has made its way to the top of every Instagram news feed on the planet. Although creative and fun as ever, I don’t loooove this entire concept but I will say, I too watched with bated breath to see what would happen next. To me, some things are a little sacred and personal - a marriage proposal and wedding is just that. However the entire publicized event was like watching an episode of reality TV and if anything, this couple did a great job of capturing the world’s attention (mine included!) Congrats to the happy couple though, marriage is always exciting no matter the path it took to get there!
Black and White Square Neck Bikini- I shared this bikini last weekend on my Instagram stories and y’all. went. crazy. I had no idea that this $12 swimsuit would lead to dozens of emails and messages but here we are! This SheInside black and white bikini is classic and comfortable. It’s affordable coming in around $12 but with my code ‘Q1dailydoseofp15’ you can shop the entire site for 15% off. It runs small so I sized up to a medium. The top and bottom are sold together so refer to the size chart of each item for exact sizing!
