Time travelers, UFO festivals, an electric man and cats that see spirit … welcome to Fortean Times, the magazine that collects the strangest news from around the world. No fake news here, Mr. President! So, in the spirit of good fun in the New Year, here are some of this month’s most intriguing tales from Fortean Times, journalism’s version of The Twilight Zone.
This season of good cheer can be a bitter time for those who carry sadness in their heart. Laurie was an attractive raven-haired woman in her late 20’s, with deep brown eyes and the kind of clear skin we all wish we’d had at her age. But in her soul, Laurie carried the weight of anger, and she wanted my advice on how she could get back at the man who was cheating on her.
Just because I like to have a sense of humour with my clients doesn’t mean I don’t take my work seriously. All joking (when appropriate) during sessions aside, I’ve trained for decades to be a reputable psychic medium, and I consider my reputation every time I pick up the phone or turn on Skype to help a client. So why is it some people don’t take my work sincerely?
Molly was looking for love in all the wrong places and, unfortunately, found Mr. Wrong. After a couple more Wrong turns, she booked a session with me over the telephone and asked me for some guidance in finding Mr. Right.
As I walked through the stable, I felt his presence: Here one moment, gone the next. Perhaps he was checking me out. I sensed he was there because of the horses. I turned to the group of five ladies who had invited me to their barn, located just outside of Burlington, Ontario. I’d come to read their horses, but found an unexpected ethereal resident on their property.
Doing energy work takes lots of energy. And after a few bad weeks where everything seemed to go wrong, I felt as squeezed as a well-worn tube of toothpaste. I needed a break – no, more than a break. I needed to go inside myself to regroup.
I was excited when I read the email that had just popped into my inbox. A well-known radio personality wanted me to come on his morning show. I’ve been interviewed by many print reporters and guested on several radio and TV shows, and I’m always eager to talk about what it’s like working with spirit. So after my last client of the day left my office, I called the telephone number he provided and tried not to be a star-struck kid when I heard his voice.
As the medium delivered her first message to the group, I cringed. “A spirit is with you,” she told a woman in the audience, “and he won’t go away.” Oh, no, I thought, the poor woman is going to think she has an attachment! The medium is scaring her! I watched the woman’s eyes grow wide, and I felt like standing up and shouting at the medium, “DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU’RE SAYING?”
Here’s something special to commemorate my 100th blog. I want to share with you one of the most beautiful stories I’ve ever read. Every time I read it, I brush away a tear. First published in Fortean Times, a British magazine and my husband’s favourite publication, it appeared in the February 2011 issue. The piece is entitled “Better Late Than Never.”
