What a fantastic day we had at Babington House near Frome / Somerset last week. With ex Welsh Rugby captain Mike Hall and his beautiful bride Diane. We arrived the night before just before the church rehearsal with plenty of time to meet the couple and families. We then took a few pictures during the evening with a relaxed informal BBQ in the walled garden.
We arrived early at Babington to photograph the guys enjoying clay pigeon shooing in the grounds of Babington House with the brides son taking the spoils! Throughout the morning we then flitted between the girls and guys getting ready. With a Babington ceremony usually at 4pm we had plenty of time to take pictures of the house and flowers being installed! With 4pm approaching we were advised that there was a small fire in the house so the fire brigade had to attend. This put the ceremony back by 30 mins or so but with the chapel being only a few steps away from the house it didn’t spoil timings too much!
After a beautiful ceremony we headed outside to lovely hazy sunshine and drinks and canapes on the lawn infront of Babington House.
I have been photographing weddings at Babington House for over 13 years now with over 75 weddings! Every one of them completely different. Which is what makes Babington so unique. Wedding just seem to ‘happen’ here with the greatest of ease and sophistication. It ticks like a well oiled clock and everything is timed to perfection and this reflects in the nature of how we photograph there too. Very relaxed and calm is the approach picking off shots and creating memories as we go.
After a little time for family shots and bridal party we had 5 mins with the bride & groom for some pictures before everyone was called jnto the orangery for the wedding breakfast. I have to say that the flowers on this wedding were out of this world and Jo & her team from Passion did a superb job.
All in a day..
It was also great to be working with Hannah from Sage & Flo - wedding planner who did a stella job. Also it was great to see Lauren from Babington House as well as Fish - in house manager who made sure the day went without a hitch. Into the night Nigel from Stylish Entertainment made sure the party went with a bang. He has been resident DJ at Babington I think for longer than I have been shooting there and always gets the party rocking!
It was a wonderful day and was a great relaxed wedding to start off the year of Babington weddings.

Hi Brett Well.... what can I say. You are an absolute superstar. You really were. I cannot thank you enough from the bottom of my heart.
Brett shot our wedding on 18th April 2019. What can we say about Brett apart from fantastic and professional. He made everyone totally at ease and connected to everyone at the wedding. Cannot recommend Brett enough. Honestly cannot thank him enough for everything. Cannot wait for our kids to get married and use him all over again x
What an amazing 3 days of wedding celebrations this was. In a purpose built wedding village in the grounds of Harriet’s fathers house. Myself & my team covered this event from beginning to end and it was a fantastic, tiring but rewarding three days! Huge thank you to Stones Events on this one for a simply magical event.
I have been shooting at the fabulous Babington House now for over 13 years and it never ceases to amaze or surprise me at every wedding. On average I shoot around 6-9 Babington Weddings per year, from the spring through Summer to Autumn & Winter.
I would say that Babington is a venue for all seasons but as a photographer I am very aware of what you need to be able to do in the Winter as compared to the Summer.
In the Summer Babington is in it’s full splendour with the grounds being utilised to the max. There is plenty of time for pictures as the light doesn’t disappear until 10pm! In the winter months it is just as magical but takes on a different persona, with candles everywhere and a more cosy shadowy vibe. With most chapel weddings taking place at 4-4.30pm this means that in the darker months , especially after the clocks have changed ( the last Sunday in October). That the light will most likely just be enough to get you to the church but will be dark on the way out.
So when choosing a photographer whether at Babington or not it is vital that they know how to handle the darkness!
From shooting group shots & posed shots to dancing and speeches. All sometimes with the use of flash. So make sure that you ask to see some examples of these kind of images to make sure that they can capture every moment no matter how dark! I have years of experience in handling any kind of light. From coming out of the church into total darkness to candlelit ceremonies and group shots inside no moment is missed.
The images below are all examples of Babington weddings from the back end of September to December.
What an awesome weekend we had in The Republic of Ireland in Kinsale at the wedding of Emma & Richard. Getting the ferry over made it easy to have all of our kit with us and made the trip from Dublin to Kinsale an easy one.
After meeting that night for a few pints of Guinness we headed off back to our apartment for some rest before the big day. Meeting the girls in the morning just a few 100 ft away down by the river where they were getting ready we took some shots whilst they had makeup and hair done. We then headed into a very busy Kinsale to see the guys and do some shots. I then left my right hand man Richard, with them , as I headed off back to the girls. Emma looked stunning in her dress and her bridesmaids also. We took a few pictures down by the river before heading off to the church. I even managed to get a ride in the bridal car too!
Ireland Wedding Fun
After a fabulous ceremony we had some time for some pictures around the church and the town of Kinsale. When coming out of the church Emma’s veil decided to go to the reception early and shot up to the church spire, where it lodged itself!
To see what happened look down at the pictures!! Amazing!!
Party into the night
We then headed back to the family farm where a fabulous marquee was set up in the grounds. Everyone partied into the night & what a party it was! With Irish dancing, fabulous food and a few pints of Guinness thrown in for good measure !!
What a fabulous wedding & a huge thank you to Emma, Richard & families for everything they did to make us feel like one of the family..
Our super hot year of fantastic weddings continues with the fabulous wedding of Richard & Emma in Essex. We met the guys first early in the morning to take a few shots of them getting ready in their tuxedo's.
We had to finish shooting them outside as the temp was rising not only with the heat of the weather but also emotionally of what was to come.. The girls were just about finishing make up as we arrived so just in time to shoot some details before getting ready.
I have to say the girls all looked stunning as did the guys and I knew it was not only going to be a fabulous day picture wise but great people to work with also.
Louise Perry Planner...
It would also be the second time we have worked with the fabulous Louise Perry & team. So i could rest assured that everything would run as smooth as silk. Working with Louise is great as she just lets us do our thing, we both have mutual respect for each other and work harmoniously together.
The day was a stunning success with everyone coming out of the church to be greeted by fresh air and the ever increasing heat of the sunshine! We had some time outside the cathedral to do some shots of the bridal party as well as the couple. Everyone looked stunning as we looked for some shade to shoot in. Emma looked simply sublime in her dress with her bridal party complementing her every move..
We all headed back after pictures to the stunning marquee that Louise & her team had spent I would think quite some time preparing. Drinks and Canape's were served on the lawn with ample shade and seating areas provided. The huge fountain also proved a cooling effect which everyone was very welcome of. An hour or so passed so we took the time to do some family shots as well as some documentary and details of the event. Everyone entered the marquee to fabulous live music & hankies being waved in the air! What an entrance! After the meal we had 5 mins as the sun was setting to take the couple to a nearby field only 30 steps walk from the marquee to do a few sunset shots. I am glad we did as the setting sun only lasted a few minutes but was worth it. This also gave Ben the drone operator working with Jessica the Videographer some time to do some shots also . Essex is a fabulous county and I love working there. The people aways look amazing and are great fun to work with. The suppliers on this wedding couldn't have been nicer also. It makes such a difference when everyone is working towards the same thing.
A huge thank you to the couple Emma & Richard and to their families for their wonderful hospitality.
10am and the temperature was already 22ªc as we arrived at the beautiful Middleton Lodge Estate in the heart of Middleton Tyas in North Yorkshire for the wedding of the stunning Jenny & Craig. Having had such fun on their pre-wedding shoot a few weeks earlier I knew this wedding was going to be a treat. It wasn't to disappoint. A huge thank you to Jenny & Craig for an awesome day and for having us as a part of their day.
Our awesome wedding year continues with the beautiful wedding of Vanessa & Terry at one of our favourite haunts, Babington House. A beautiful relaxed day with great weather & company. A huge thank you to the bride & groom for all their hospitality on the day. Here are some images from the day...
Huge thank you to Becky from Babington also, always a pleasure.
This was our first wedding back at the beautiful Babington House this year & what a fantastic way to start 2018 at Babington. The wonderful wedding of Christine & Justin all the way from Miami - another old stomping ground of mine! When I met with them last year I knew their wedding was going to be great. An atmosphere of expectation filled the air the morning of the wedding with the guys & some of the girls playing archery & clay pigeon shooting as well as numerous games of American Football on the lawn.
Babington is certainly one of my favourite places to shoot having been shooting weddings there since 2003. I always manage to find a new little place or a new shot that I have never found before. Treating it like its the first time I've been there is the way to go for me & this wedding wasn't to disappoint.
Christine looked beautifully elegant in her dress from one of the top designers- Marchesa.. As did her sisters. Justin looked sharp in his tux and their son equally so! The atmosphere couldn't have been any better throughout the day with a relaxed vibe of a Spring garden party. A joy to be there with my camera .. A huge thank you as ever to my right hand man - Richard for all his help throughout the day.
The day was a wonderful blend of both nationalities & religions. Everyone looked amazing as the sun shone down on the canapes & champagne being served after a wonderful ceremony in the chapel. After drinks and music on the lawns everyone made their way into the orangery for the wedding meal. After the speeches everyone was lifted to their feet by the Mexican ( Dorito advert guys)! What a party! With dancing into the night with music by Babington’s resident DJ, Nigel there wasn’t a person left sitting!
We are both so happy with the photos, they will help relive the most amazing day. Brett and his team were so professional and a delight to work with. Can’t wait to find an excuse to work with them again xxx
