The Cherry blossom usually lasts only a week so the time is so sort and you may want to plan your visit as soon as possible. Most Toronto families know High Park as the best place to see Cheery blossom, but there are other places that you can enjoy this beauty of nature.

Blow are the parks in Toronto and GTA that you can enjoy your family time to watch Sakura:

  1. High Park in Toronto

  2. Trinity Bellwoods Park in Toronto

  3. Centennial Park in Etobicoke

  4. Kariya Park in Mississauga

and the photo below is portrait of myself enjoying the lovely nature in High Park.

The connection between mom and her baby is always drawing my attention, so when we get closer to Mother’s Day, it is a perfect excuse to photograph the motherhood moments.

First, I met this beautiful mom and daughter when I attended in a newborn photography workshop about 3 years ago and now they are back to this simple but full of light studio in Toronto for mommy and me photos. These two had very great time playing around, hugging and kissing each other, and I just enjoyed documenting these great moments as a gift of Mother’s Day that stays with them forever.

Since I noticed I am pregnant, the joy and excitement is unbelievable in every steps, days and months of this journey. My husband and I had planned for the baby, but among all those enjoyments, there are lots of stress and unanswered questions that we have to find out every day and during these 9 months as we are expecting our first baby and don’t have any previous experience.

Questions about finding OB, how to have a safe and healthy pregnancy, shopping for baby and nursery, how to find pediatricians, maternity outfits, baby shower, day care, and many many more. There are tons of websites, applications and free information that a pregnant mom can use and google every day, but I wanted to have access to few reliable sources only that don’t overwhelm me and give me just enough information in a limited time every day.

I found three websites listed from below that each has features that I like. They have some differences so I find them complement to each other; and only focusing on these 3 websites save my time every day on surfing internet for finding my questions.

  1. The Bump

I love this one a lot. You can check the website on your desktop and even more cooler is the phone app is also available for you so you can read online whenever you have spare time. The application suggest you the articles and subjects you might be interested in the week of pregnancy that you are currently on. Articles are not too long to read and good photos used for each article makes it more enjoyable to read.

    https://www.thebump.com/

  2. Baby Center

What I love about Baby Center is the community you can get in touch with. Since I reside in Canada, I registered in Baby Center Canada; You can register in the website that covers your country, since this is an international website. From there, you can join as many groups that might interest you. For example, I found “ First time moms” and “ Toronto moms “ groups helpful for me. There are lots of mamas similar to yourself in each group that you can share your ideas, ask questions…

The other feature that I like about Baby Center is you can join there anonymous which makes it private and safe.

https://www.babycenter.ca/

3. Online Prenatal Program

Toronto Public Health offers free online prenatal classes for both new mom to be and her partner. The program walks you through every steps of pregnancy and all you need to know about pregnancy, and birth in Toronto.

What I like about this program is both you and your partner can get a access code to the program so both of you can go through info on your own pace. This online prenatal class is available for locals and residents of Toronto and GTA.

Simply click on the link below and request to get the access registration code by filling out a form. Your registration will be done in less than 48 hours, and you will receive a confirmation email with two access codes.

https://www.toronto.ca/community-people/children-parenting/pregnancy-and-parenting/pregnancy/during-pregnancy/prenatal-programs/welcome-to-parenting/

If you also have a website or application that you might think it is helpful for a pregnant mamma, feel free to add it in the comment section.

By the way, If you are expecting and would like to plan your maternity or newborn photo session with me, I would be very happy to chat with you about your ideal session.

I was sitting in a cafe with my friend who is expecting and our conversation was all about baby, maternity and anything around that. At some point, we talked about photographers and our preferences over the types of photography. I told her about the beautiful birth story video that I watched the night before and at first she was a bit surprised.

“Birth Photography?!!” she asked surprisingly. “Do you mean the photographer comes at the time of delivery?” she asked.

“yes, because this is story of new life. It is all about those hours of expecting, excitement, and emotions” I stated.

Then she said” I am pretty sure that would be a good memory”.

If you are not familiar with birth photography, you may think you are not comfortable having a photographer because of private parts of your body. As a woman, I do completely agree with you, so why you need a professional photographer at the time of birth?

  1. The photographer usually comes to the location of birth ( hospital, home or birthing center), when the active birth starts. This is usually few hours before your baby’s arrival. She photographs all the emotions and feeling of you and your partner, and all the visitors inside or outside your room who are also excited and waiting; all the details and preparation until birth. This is a story of a new life so it has to be documented fully before your baby arrives. The story continues few hours after birth, when your little newborn is here, as these are the very sweet and memorable moments for you all.

  2. All of us know that some memories in our life are so unique that you can even think about skipping them without being photographed. The first event is wedding and the second one is birth. The real story, raw emotions, the last hours of waiting until you see the human you gave life in your own body, and the time of baby’s arrival, these are just so beautiful that deserve to be documented for your family.

  3. Women are so strong and you will prove this to yourself and your partner how unbelievable your strength is. On the other hand, the support that your partner gives you in this journey is so beautiful. This shows again that how your love is strong as a couple before your give birth to your child and expand your family.

  4. While you are in the process of giving birth, there are lots of details happening around you that you may not even notice at that time or can’t remember afterwards . Your parents might arrive to the hospital/birthing center, your older child is outside the room playing with the favorite toy…. There are lots of things that you may want to see afterward in the birth story.

  5. Although your visitor can take photos with their cell phone, there are some reasons you may not even want cell phone photos at the time of birth. If we don’t even discuss the quality of photos and the artistic view of your photographer, there is a strongest reason that you would like to have a birth photographer; and it is because you need the people who are present at that time to support you and focus on the process instead of taking pictures.

Birth is one the most beautiful events that happens in your family and your baby’s life, so it is worthy 1000 times to be documented beautifully, so you all can remember the beauty in chaos, and this raw and real story.

Mamma, I can’t wait to hear your why.

There are lots of family traditions at Christmas time and one of those is Christmas tree decorating and gift wrapping. This year, I had the opportunity to document a lovely family of five at their home in a afternoon when the whole family were participating in decorating the tree.

Other than the joy that everyone had in that afternoon, there was something that was really interesting to me and was so unique to this family. Every year, they go shopping for new props and ornaments, and they also choose different color scheme each and every year. Mom love surfing Pinterest for new decoration ideas and inspirations.

Every parent would like to make the first birthday for their baby so unique and memorable. Nothing is better to celebrate the 1st birthday with family photos and then some fun baby pictures.

As a lifestyle photographer, I believe everything is more beautiful when it is simple and raw, and I am so blessed to work with clients who loves candid photos too.

After the phone and email consultation that I had with my client, we decide to design the cake smash with white balloons and add some soft colors to the cake and giant balloon filled with confetti. The simple cake smash set up made the scene so clean and with less distraction for the baby boy. We, of course had some lifestyle and candid photos with the family both in the studio and outside in the park. Not forgetting that, the bubble bath in the park was so much fun for the little cute baby boy to be refreshed in the hot summer day.

Holiday season in Toronto is so much fun and every year, the city brings something new and magical for the Torontonians.

Toronto heard and experienced the Christmas Market in the Distillery for many years, but there is also similar fun places that I can say is more kids friendly in the mid city. This is for those who like to avoid driving to downtown Toronto and prefer daily activities.

Today, my family and I visited the Evergreen’s Winter Village at the Brick works. There are lots to do here and I love to share this with you. Specially if you are a family with little kids, this is a must visit in the winter Holiday season.

Where to eat?

You can start your day with a warm drink and a take away breakfast at the Winter Village café. Also in the vendor market section, there are lots of food trucks serving burgers, fries, Mexican food and kind of everything for all tastes. These are good options if you arrive here at lunch time.

For Marshmallow lovers, there is a booth just in front of a skate filed, that you can fry your own marshmallow on a fire. Sound like fun, Right?

Winter Activity for children

…and here parents and children can also do ice skating. Just rent your ice-skate boots at the desk and enjoy this winter activity while you have a view of Christmas trees in the center of ice field.

Have you found your Christmas tree?

Are you still looking? Here you can find different tree sizes. The Christmas Garden Market is filled with beautiful trees and even though you are not planning to buy, just walking by the trees is so enjoyable. There is a bench by threes with a fire place that you can take a rest and warm up yourself and your kids if you feel a bit cold.

Magical Sight Seeing

The small section of this year’s winter village in the Brick Works is inspired by light effects in our city. This section is also free to public and the light play is joyful for little children and even for adults.

And below is a portrait of myself at the light play section.

I hope you get a chance to plan and visit the Winter Village this holiday season.

If you are looking for a Local photo print shop, Pikto located in North York, Toronto is my first suggestion. They offer a few designs for holiday cards. Not too many options so you can easily choose without any confusion. I like their designs because they are simple and classic.

Today, I would like to mention some details about your in-home newborn lifestyle session. This will give you some ideas about your session as well as how to prepare for the session.

Small place, not enough light, Clutters!

These are 3 main concerns of lots of parents when they are planning for their home newborn photography.

I spoke with lots of moms that think their home is too small for lifestyle newborn photography, and I have to tell you although more space may be is a bit easier to work in for me, but please don’t hold off your photo session for this only. The truth is as a young parent, you most probably live in a small Condo/ apartment or small house in our metropolitan city, Toronto. I sometimes visit families in their big home space, and at the end, one little corner in front of a small window will catch my eye for creating a beautiful photograph.

As most of you know, light is an important factor in photography and that’s why I schedule all the in-home family and newborn photo sessions during day time, but sometimes little light can create some dramatic and artistic photos.

Don’t worry about if there are clutters around or if your home is disorganized. You have newborn and or other children at home, so I don’t expect to enter a very organized home. If I find a place at your home that is ideal for pictures, we will move everything around it to make that spot nice. It is that easy!

Plan your outfits ahead of time

During the phone consult or in-person consult which would be scheduled before your photo session, I will guide you through the outfit choices: How to choose colors, how to choose what to wear for the whole family. I would also recommend emailing me the pictures of your outfit choices before the actual photo session so we all would be sure your choices are the best for the day.

Basically, try to wear comfortable considering that your session will be in your home. Also choose your outfits to show your personality. If you (mom) are comfortable with dress, then go for it, if not, there is nothing wrong with a nice top and pants.

If we have planned for nursery photos as well, I suggest mom to dress comfortably so breastfeeding can be easy while I capture photos of the beautiful motherhood moments.

About the colors, the safest way is to choose neutral colors. You can also add one or two colors of your choice to neutral colors to make the pictures even more interesting.

For your newborn, I suggest to have a swaddle and at least two outfits ready. Swaddle can be one, you have purchased before either plain or with patterns; onesie and may be another outfit of your choice. The newborn outfits with button on the fronts are the best so that you can change it more easily as needed.

Choosing where to take your family and newborn photos

When I arrive at your home, I will ask you to tour me around your home and those rooms that you think it is the best for pictures. We usually choose 2-3 areas of your home for your session, such as nursery, one bedroom, and living room.

If you have a nursery is great, but if you don’t, don’t stress out yourself, there are lots of sweet spots in your home that we can still work in. The couch in living room or the bed in your master bedroom is perfect for family cuddle photos. As you see in the below images, I chose the dining table for sweet documentary family photos.

As I work with natural light, we will schedule your session during the day time, usually anytime in the morning till early afternoon. So any room with a window would work for your photos.

How to manage your photo session with a toddler

If your newborn is not your first baby, you most probably have a toddler or an older child (ren) at home. If this is the case, I capture some sweet sibling’s photos as well. However, you might think your older child won’t be stay still for photos and might stress you out, but let me tell you that this is nothing to be worried about.

Firstly, I have to say that your babies are the leaders of the in-home newborn and family photo session. We try to work at their pace. Your babies are not supposed to stay still in the in-home lifestyle session because my goal is to capture all the chaos and beauty in your family which is totally meaningful as it shows your children’s personality. Here are some tips parents to ease the photo session:

  • Have some colorful finger foods ready for your kid such as berries or a cupcake…

  • Play with your children like you do always. Pillow throwing, cuddle and kisses

  • Involve your kids in the activities they enjoy usually. Such as reading a book

  • Make sure to plan the session at your child’s most convenient time of the day

  • Let your kids wear what they love

The newborn/family photo shoot usually takes 60-90 minutes and since the goal is to capture real, natural, candid photos of your family, is perfect if you plan your daily or favourite family activities in your session. These authentic moments add even more stories to your family picture and these are the photos that you would like to look over and over again for future years with your children.

Brief talk about your photo product choices

Usually at the end of your photo session, we will briefly talk about your wall choices for your wall Arts to be displayed if this is your choice for your products. Meeting you at your home for your session will help me to know your taste better so that I can help you with the frames and the type of wall Art that matches your home design the best.

This is also a good time to see the product samples that I can offer to you. I always come to your home with the samples such as Album, Wall Display, Loose prints… so you can touch them and see them closely.
