'Trust is possible only if first you trust in yourself. If you trust in yourself you can trust in existence. If you don’t trust yourself no other trust is possible. …… Trust is a real rose. It has roots and roots go deep into your heart and into your being. Belief is just in the head. Trust is in the heart, in your deeper world of being…. And it goes on growing because it has roots. It never remains static; it is dynamic; it is a living force. It goes on growing new foliage, new flowers, new branches.’ Osho
The upcoming Partial Lunar Eclipse (think live-wired Full Moon) is at 22.38BST 16 July at 24 Capricorn. The astrological aspects are strong and point us towards a transformation of where we give power. The signs of Capricorn and Cancer are highlighted. These two signs are relevant to us all in different ways, depending on where they sit in the individual birth-chart. Yet in their archetypal energy they relate to mother/father, nurture/authority, emotional connection/boundaries, inner world/external and home/work life.
Eclipses are always game-changers. They bring us experience or insight that awakens. The current planetary activity in these signs is about power. It points us towards where we give over power to old beliefs and life constructs. Those beliefs are mental/emotional constructs such as ‘I can’t’; ‘I should’; ‘I’m this or that”: ‘If I do this, that will happen’ and so on. You know, the stories you tell your self? The particular focus on these constructs right now is about the influence of external authority figures and how that external influence has led to internal belief. Who might that be in your life? The boss, the doctor, parents or partner? Or maybe it’s one of the collective systems? Governmental, education, the bank? These eclipse energies support us in pinpointing what we have given authority to. They reveal where we need to reclaim integrity i.e. where we may feel powerlessness or at the very least ineffective in a certain aspect of life. They also show us where we might need to step up in response-ability.
We have been taking on beliefs about our self and our lives since birth. Belief is fundamental to the framework of our lives as human beings. Yet our belief systems are meant to be fluid. As we mature they are meant to mature also. As we claim the inner integrity that develops through experience – integrity being the knowing of our own value systems and the capacity to live from them - the potential is we drop the beliefs we’ve taken on from others. Yet inevitably there are places we remain stuck in self-perspective or life expression that’s no longer relevant. It happens where we still believe internally what ‘we’ve been told’ by others, where we’ve self-judged through feeling we’ve failed or have got it ‘wrong’, and in so many other ways. Where we’re feeling stuck, albeit challenging, is always where the growth lies. It’s a constant calling towards the risk of greater integrity and response-ability. Yet in truth that risk is only ever to our old beliefs.
When we live with integrity we are in alignment; we are authentic. Being authentic means being strong in what we know to be true deep inside. Yet it’s not always an easy path. Living authentically almost always means being vulnerable. When we step into a new level of integrity we are shaky inside. We may fear the response of others. We don’t know how we’ll be received or what will happen. But do we ever? Authenticity requires our courage and strength. Vulnerability requires our self-kindness and tenderness. The combination is naturally empowering. And right now this synergy of authenticity and vulnerability is exactly what we are being encouraged to nurture. It’s about trusting our self enough to let go our old beliefs; to trust that we have the inner resources to navigate life as it unfolds - even if we are uncertain; even if we feel insecure, especially if we feel vulnerable. Vulnerability is about openness. In openness we are naturally connected to ‘the more’ of who we truly are beyond our beliefs, to our always-new possibility. Beliefs might keep us feeling psychologically safe or secure yet they also limit us to what we already know. True aliveness always arises in what we don’t already know! It arises through simply stepping out.
Whether we like it or not, we are all in an evolutionary process. Growth can be uncomfortable yet the process has a natural integrity to it when we engage it. Being fully alive is uncomfortable at times. Trusting oneself, the deepest place in oneself, is essential. Without that what do we have? We may have a sense of belonging elsewhere, through our relationships, work or family, and those are naturally valuable but without the deep tap root of self trust those can and probably will be rocked. With deep self trust we have a sense of belonging that will carry us through the challenges of growth. This current growth process is about discovering that new sense of belonging. A deeper, more integral sense of belonging that arises from self-trust. Where might you need to trust yourself more? Where do you need to step out of the comfort zone of your old beliefs? This eclipse may show you.

Do you enjoy playing games? You know, Scrabble, Monopoly, charades or chess? Or more active games like tennis or rugby? What’s your game of choice? And how do you play? Do you like to play solo, with a partner, or are you a team player? Are you a risk taker or gambler? Or are you a cards-close-to-chest individual? Do you like to win at all cost? Do you give way easily? Do you cheat? Have you thought about what gives you a feeling of enjoyment, connection or even power in game playing? And what’s game playing got to do with this month’s astrology?
Our approach to game playing provides clues to our approach and response to life. Of course the stakes are higher in life but whether you’re playing to win, a strategist, or to simply enjoy, the feelings that arise through playing games can be revealing, especially within the relationship field. Do you tend to fight your corner or give way? Do you sulk? Perhaps you lose your sense of self in a game? Or maybe winning doesn’t matter? How are you with team sport? Ever fallen out over a game? Children do it all the time don’t they? No doubt we’ve all met a poor loser at some point, or someone who will use any means to win. We have so many subtle ways of trying to gain power as human beings.
July is a game-changing month. There are two main threads of energy. There’s the one-step-forward-two-back that we experience in games like Snakes & Ladders. It’s up the ladder on a potential high, then down the snake, back to where you started. Then there’s the unexpected turnaround like the ‘Go to Jail’ card in Monopoly and its release, the ‘Get Out of Jail Free’ card that gets you moving again. Between the two we may not know if we’re coming or going this month.
This month’s spotlight is on relationships: what we’ve inherited from ‘mum and dad’ and our beliefs, ideas and concepts about what it is to be an authentic man or woman. The core energy is about kindness yet authenticity within oneself and in connection – opening the heart and revealing our vulnerability yet also standing strong in what’s real. It’s about growing and acting from true sensitivity. In relating it’s opening our capacity to move on from the shadows of need or emotion based connections to deeper heart-based authentic relating.
This month’s astrology helps us to understand how the game is potentially changing.
2 July: Total Solar Eclipse at 10 Cancer 20.17BST
What needs kindness? What feelings do you need to deeply acknowledge and accept? This first eclipse of the month is a reboot on the feeling level as the Moon (unconscious or feeling self) covers the light of the Sun (conscious self). This eclipse touches our vulnerabilities and intimacies, with self and others. Its potential is to open up any areas where we control feeling. Feeling is a valuable aspect of our Being. At its deepest it connects us to soulfulness. It moves us. Key focus: What are you hungry for? Acknowledge it, ask for it, move towards it. Stay with the heart.
Aspects: Saturn & Pluto conjunct the Moon’s South Node in Capricorn opposing the Cancerian Eclipse. Uranus in Taurus sextile the Cancerian Eclipse. Mercury, Mars & Juno stellium conjunction in Leo.
7 July Messenger Mercury stations retrograde at 4 Leo
Mercury retrograde focus is on how we relate for the whole retrograde journey through to 1 August. There’s a lot of heat around at Mercury station retrograde, provided by the fire of Leo energy. This is a day (or few days) when words might fly. At the very least there could be some challenge in our closest relationships. The wound to self-confidence or assertion is primed yet is also supported in terms of awareness about a much-needed new perspective or response. Mercury will spend most of this retrograde period in Cancer however so whatever takes place in Leo is exactly the catalyst needed to open up our deepest vulnerabilities. It’s a supportive process not to be afraid of, for when we fully acknowledge our most sensitive spots we are empowered to heal them. Sometimes that happens through grace – simply through acceptance – sometimes we need to action. As Mercury moves back into Cancer on 19 July the pull inwards is strong. It’s time to slow down, make space for reflection and what truly feeds you. 26 July to 7 August we are revisiting events and experience from mid June. It’s a time of potential reconnection to what we most need. Key focus through this whole period: control, power plays (within self and reflected through others) and sensitivity. It’s about discovering new ground and mature boundaries that truly support the more fragile aspects of our humanness. Taking life less personally is key.
Aspects: Mercury begins his second retrograde journey of this year at 4 Leo with Mars & Juno conjunct, trine Chiron in Aries & Ceres in Sagittarius. The Sun conjunct North Node in Cancer is opposing Saturn with the South Node in Capricorn and square Pallas Athena in Libra.
8 July Rainbow Bridge Chiron stations retrograde at 5 Aries
As Chiron stations retrograde (along with Mercury) the spotlight is on wounding to self-confidence and/or the capacity to self assert. Over-sensitivity, taking things too personally or emotional neediness are at the root of any relating challenges. The calling is to embrace yet step beyond feeling into heart knowing. For instance if you know a relationship is rooted in love but you’re not feeling it right now, stay with the knowing, be generous with it, live from it. That’s truly real. There’s a potential to deepen in letting go of beliefs and stories that don’t support and to understand how to open and stay within the frequency of heart resonance.
Aspects: Chiron in Aries square Venus in Cancer but also in a Grand Fire Trine with Mars, Mercury & Juno in Leo, & Ceres in Sagittarius.
16 July Partial Lunar Eclipse at 24 Capricorn
This is an uncomfortable eclipse highlighting the dilemma between what’s familiar & comfortable (and therefore feels safe) and what’s an expansive point of growth. Obsessions, power plays and control are in the spotlight with the energies opening from 8 July onwards, well before the eclipse point. It’s a time to grow up and bring in clear boundaries, especially with oneself. Tough love i.e. recognising what is healthy release and what may be emotional indulgence is key. Forgiveness and compassion for self/others and our human dilemma plays a key role in moving through these challenging days. Key focus: the synergy between staying grounded, open and tender and trusting the process.
Aspects: Moon conjunct Pluto, Saturn & the South Node in Capricorn, in a Cardinal Grand Cross with Eris in Aries, Pallas Athena in Libra, Sun & Venus conjunct North Node in Cancer. A Yod aspect to Jupiter in Sagittarius from Vesta in Taurus & Venus conjunct the North Node in Cancer
1 August New Moon at 8 Leo at 04.12BST plus Messenger Mercury station direct at 04.58BST at 24 Cancer (ruled by this New Moon)
As Mercury stations direct at the Eclipse Point of 16 July along with the emerging Leo New Moon, any unfinished business from this month (& particularly around mid June/mid July) rises to be seen and evolved. The energies are fiery, expansive, opportunistic and uplifting but as always, we have choice in our responses: stay in old energy of judgment, control or ‘should’ or be mature, forgive, move on, open into new potentials, even if you don’t know what they are. Blessing-giver Jupiter stations direct on 11 August so is key to this New Moon also. It’s time to open up, go beyond, have faith in new beginnings and be generous, especially in understanding all human beings are wounded at some level.
Aspects: Grand Fire Trine with Sun, Moon, Venus in Leo, Chiron in Aries & Jupiter in Sagittarius. Yod to Mars & Juno in Leo from Neptune in Pisces, Saturn, Pluto & the South Node in Capricorn.
This is a tough month but potentially a very fruitful one, especially in terms of what’s closest to us. Relationship challenges and the sensitivity of our feeling realm colours every aspect of our lives. This month heralds an evolution in understanding this. The events and experience we have supports insightful recognition into the kind of choices we make and the impact they have on our self and others. The opportunity is to move beyond ‘right and wrong’, ‘good and bad’, ‘me and you’ into a deeper understanding that all expression is frequency - sometimes dense, sometimes lighter - and to evolve in this impersonal knowing with our most personal experience.

Saying yes and saying no are part of our everyday experience. Most days we don’t consider where the response comes from. We just respond. After all most of the daily choices we make aren’t life changing. We choose what works for who we are and where our life is right now. Or we choose in alignment with a bigger vision. Sometimes our ‘yes‘ or ‘no’ can simply be a habit.
As we grow in consciousness recognising the place we choose from is essential. We choose our ‘yes‘ or ‘no’ for a multitude of reasons. Those reasons are an indicator of our true values. For example, when faced with an opportunity we might say ‘yes’ through inspiration or excitement – the opportunity aligns with our growing values. Or we might say ’no’ because it’s not appealing, it doesn’t quite fit, or we have fear to step out of our comfort zones. When faced with a challenge we might rise to meet it, we might fight to change ‘what is’, or we may try to avoid it. Our responses are keys to how we meet life with its flow of constant change, and how we navigate our relationships. And it's not just verbal responses that are revelatory. The 'yes' or 'no' or our actions is equally telling. Do we dig in hoping life’s changes won’t find us? Do we hold back, doubting our capacity to respond effectively? Do we over-extend our self and then run out of energy or resources? Both the similarity and diversity of our responses provide clues to where we’re evolving and where we’re sleep walking. Exploring and understanding our responses, particularly when we’re under pressure, supports our growing self-understanding.
Bigger choices
At times we’re faced with bigger life questions, choices and challenges that make us pause and reflect on a response. Or the pressure of life is so great we become reactive. In reaction, if we’re wise, we recognise our trigger points have been activated. We may have to pause, give our self space, dig deep to find what’s really happening and respond differently. And of course what’s really happening is what’s always happening – the opportunity for change and growth is upon us. The universal flow provides the energy. Life circumstances and our relationships provide the opportunity.
We’re coming up to an intense and dynamic period of potential change over this next couple of weeks. Here’s the astrology. Multiple oppositions between water sign Cancer and earth sign Capricorn between 14 and 20 June amping up the pressure - Mercury, Mars, Juno & the Moon’s North Node in Cancer opposing Saturn, Pluto and the Moon’s South Node in Capricorn. Mid-way through that period on 17 June there’s the Full Moon at 25 Sagittarius. These shorter terms aspects are held within the year long framework of Jupiter square Neptune and Saturn sextile Neptune (peaking exact January, June & September to November), along with Neptune station retrograde on the Solstice. It’s a complex mix that we’ll be receiving uniquely according to our astrological birth-chart, yet there are common themes to the energies.
Key themes to explore:
Cultivating togetherness whilst standing in one’s authenticityChild and parent patternsAccepting responsibility & boundaries as a learning toolBreaking free of one’s own control or restrictionsMature responsesOthers as the mirror of selfCompassion or tough love? Tough love with compassion as a mature responseTruth-telling with empathyRight use of mindTaking life or others too personally. Feeding emotion or victim consciousnessOpenness & vulnerabilityThe choiceless choice. Drawn to do this or have to do this? Both have value
Key supports:
Stop! Creating space in the midst of chaosFacing ‘what is’ directlyFeeling is healingLetting go controlLife as growth processBreatheSpiritual practiceIntuitionConscious communicationForgivenessSelf-loving behaviourUnderstanding humanness from the bigger picture of evolutionary process
This is not an easy few weeks. At core, this is about power, its use and abuse, and the discovery of where we source the power to be our self - from integrity or powerlessness. Your ‘yes’ or your ‘no’ is a key that unlocks greater consciousness in your life and relationships. Noticing it, even in the smallest ways, opens the way for healthy change in all aspects of life.

Have you ever wondered why the ebb and flow of waves on a beach is so compelling? Certainly the sight of waves rolling in is beautiful; it’s rhythmic and calming. Yet perhaps we’re also getting a sense of something beyond our own lives with their everyday challenges? The rhythm of waves helps us relax, let go and find new perspective. Natural processes of life often tune us in to our bigger picture. Sometimes they invite us, sometimes challenge. They can also be mirrors for the growth processes that we’re always involved in whether we know it or not.
Think about waves. There’s an ebb and flow; then there’s a disappearing back into the ocean. Just as on the shoreline, the natural forces of expansion, contraction and dissolution are constantly at play in our lives. They occur internally in terms of our confidence levels, emotions and moods, ideas, willpower and physical energy. Externally they appear through the flux of changeability in our lives, our experience and response or reaction to it. We flow between the forces of openness and expansion, closure/control and contraction, and dissolution every day. We awake; we open and perhaps we expand (albeit unwillingly sometimes), certainly we move; we flow or struggle through the day; then at night we dissolve into sleep. This is the human rhythm of life, whether through a day or a lifetime. Nature operates similarly through the seasons – moving from the quiet of winter to vibrant expansion to fullness into letting go and dissolution once more - as does our experience of the sun in its journey through our day.
What this year's processes reveal
Throughout this year three planets are strongly placed to mirror the processes of expansion, contraction and dissolution in our lives. All three are strong in their own signs and through this year will meet in different aspects to each other and the Nodes of the Moon. The Nodes represent where we’re coming from, with the need to let go of old patterning, and where we’re being called to develop. Together the energies of Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune and the Nodes permeate the year with a karmic opportunity to deeply let go and grow. It’s a rich potent opportunity to explore in your life what’s expanding, what’s contracting or closing and what’s dissolving. It’s an opening into a wider landscape for your life. It’s a real opportunity to ground and manifest the deeper soulful aspects of your true self - a doorway in grounding not just the mystical, numinous aspects of self but in bringing full consciousness to life in the everyday aspects of your life. Let’s look at each planet in turn to see how that might look.
The Focus
Blessing-giver Jupiter in Sagittarius (the expansion or growth point): the development of wisdom through experience; taking risks to go beyond ‘the norm’ and grow; changing your life philosophy; the path of trust.
Wise Elder Saturn in Capricorn (the contraction or grounding): taking full responsibility for your role as creator of your life; taking practical steps to build and manifest what’s of true worth; maturity; authenticity and integrity
Mystic Neptune in Pisces (the dissolution or letting go point): consciously relinquishing control; opening and receiving the soul’s impulse or the hand of grace; willingness to allow process, gentleness within it; soul and spirit connection
Depending on our individuality, the synergy of these three planets will inspire, compel or invite us towards the growth we most need and deeper awakened consciousness. Through their process we will see the landscape of our lives changing, sometimes quickly, sometimes slow and sure. Knowing what you’re choosing and its rightness at any one time (and it is a choice) is wisdom. Knowing what you’re choosing brings power for change. In this synergy we have the opportunity to expand meeting the necessity to ground or take action and the calling to let go of how that unfolds. The timing and strength of these three planetary placements, along with their ongoing relationship with each other and the Moon’s Nodes, dictates what questions, opportunities or challenges are uppermost in our consciousness in any given period. Here’s a brief over-view for the rest of the year.

When we do the same thing over and over again, one of two things happen. Either life gets very boring or we feel safe and secure. What happens for you?
As human beings we have need of stability and security. How much we need depends on our individuality, our experience, our fear and confidence levels and how much we’ve let go or healed the traumatic elements of our lives. It’s complex isn’t it? Some of us need more security than others; at some times we need it more than at other times. Some of us find change inviting or exciting, some don’t. Our relationship to security or lack of it is different according to our level of evolving consciousness. Yet if we look deeply we might see that the illusion of security is exactly that – an illusion. It’s an illusion we currently need perhaps, but how we feed it is pertinent right now. Perhaps rather than ‘illusion’ we could view security as a temporary state wherein change is always possible?
Security and what it means, is a growing theme this year. The full entry of Awakener Uranus into fixed sign Taurus until 2026 signifies a shake-up of what we consider secure. We feel security in different ways: mentally through our belief systems, emotionally through the satisfaction of our need for love, affection and belonging, and physically through what we have. This new seven-year phase focuses on the physical yet it’s true of most human beings (in the western world particularly) that if we don’t have physical security, we’re prone to becoming unsettled in other ways. Currently anywhere we’re unsettled is up for transformation isn’t it? With this current placement our reactions and responses to change are being given a makeover.
Full Moon activation
This current Full Moon sees Venus, ruler of Taurus, meeting with Uranus at 3 degrees of this earthy sign. It heralds the activation of new phase of uplifting our security consciousness. Taurus and Venus both represent the feel good of life, being comfortable (or more than comfortable) in terms of our body, and physical resources like food and money. Taurus and Venus reflect the desire nature and its manifestation through the senses, or through what we can experience physically: love and sensuality, beauty, art, music, connection to nature, money in the bank account, good food and wine, comfort and luxury, or even just the meeting of our basic needs. In its highest expression Taurus is about the enjoyment of life and deep gratitude for everything we receive. Yet every sign has its shadow. In Taurus this expresses as the desire to possess, to accumulate, and qualities such as complacency or greed. Taurus is the most fixed of the fixed signs in terms of physicality so represents where we don’t want to let go of ‘physical stuff’, where we hang on or fear loss, or where our perspective of how much we actually have becomes distorted. The polarity to accumulation is lack, or more pertinently fear of lack. And no matter how much we have it’s fear of lack that makes us hang on.
Change is a constant but human nature is good at pretending it isn’t. For it unsettles our security, or at its strongest may really challenge it. Unless we’ve instigated the change or there’s an element of control perhaps? Yet change is necessary. Without it there is stagnation; there’s no life. No matter how much we bury our heads in the sand and pretend it won’t, change will find us. Better to learn how to navigate it well perhaps? This is where Uranus’s role in Taurus comes in.
Awakener Uranus’s role
Uranus is an awakening energy. Wherever he travels life changes irrevocably, because it’s the right time for that change even if it doesn’t seem to be. Uranus energy works like a lightning bolt, through the flash of insight or inspiration that changes everything, or through an external event that potentially does the same. Uranus is about higher frequency. And we can’t be that finer vibration without letting go. As Einstein purportedly said “Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance you must keep moving.’ Uranus in Taurus is about moving, especially where we’re resistant (a Taurus shadow energy) to moving. It’s about penetrating the denser layers of physicality and our deep attachments to forms of stability or security in order that we become more alive and awake. It’s about recognising, really recognising, what our attachments are actually costing us. Through this letting go process Uranus energy supports us in finding new values, new solutions, new joys. The gift arrives in discovering how to become secure in our own resourcefulness. That resourcefulness lies not in what we have but how we are, in how we respond to what is currently required.
Are we being asked to let go of security through this phase? Maybe, maybe not. Yet we are certainly being encouraged to let go of our attachment to forms of security. Forms are inherently insecure. They can and do change or disappear. Even seemingly solid objects may change over time. And other less substantial forms certainly move – money comes and goes, relationships change or die. Uranus delivers the potential for our deeper understanding of the energy behind forms. That’s his arena. And it’s the energy behind forms that has true value. What we connect with – the feel good of life – is not the form itself but the energy within the form. And we know energy is a flux. More importantly we know that the energy we bring to a form changes our experience of it. Meeting it with gratitude and wakefulness gives it value. Meeting it with familiarity, or lack of appreciation, makes it worthless. And of course, how we connect with anything is a choice we make, at some level or other.
Where we truly find security
The constant changing of forms shows us in truth the only security is within - in how we respond to change. And how do we learn to respond well to change? Through navigating the experience of change! This is the learning with Uranus in Taurus. For he represents a finer experience of being alive in our senses, enjoying the impermanence of every experience and form as it comes along. We could see Uranus in Taurus as developing a deeper stability within through the process of change itself. That brings a freedom some of us experience at this time yet many are learning. Uranus is where the unexpected happens. When that happens, if we let go of ‘how it is’ or ‘how I like it to be’ Uranus comes in with exactly the right inspiration or solution that is needed. His energy of higher mind in us has the potential to deliver instant breakthrough when we’re facing the most challenging breakdown. It’s realising and acknowledging that the magic of serendipity is at the heart of change when we let go enough to allow and receive it. We’ve all had incidents where life simply provides just what we need when we most need it, and often in the most surprising way. Isn’t that happening all the time? If I look back over my life I can see all the major changes simple arrived and I said ‘Yes’. Even if it seemed I made a decision there was a bigger picture in play. For Uranus works on the inner and the external levels, via shifts of consciousness or through events that evolve our change response capacity. To activate that leap forward we’re called to let go and trust like never before, at least in our known history. Nature shows us how to do that though; it’s very natural. It happens through the flow of the seasons. There are times of stability and times of change. It’s how we meet that flow that’s truly important.
The collective wave
Sometimes change is so big we can feel helpless to its tides. Collectively Taurus represents our relationship to our earth, as well as to our body, personal values and resources. It’s about what we give value to. If we look at our world right now we see a definite need, if not a demand, that we change our relationship to the comfort of physical security. This demand is about uplifting the status quo. We need to evolve personally - our value systems – and collectively - our cultural and organisational structures - and to evolve fast, for the sake of our earth and our children. It’s our children who are speaking up and taking action for the good of the whole. For many of them are less conditioned. They see more clearly for they are already living a finer frequency. Clearly they recognise what many of us don’t. That change is needed now! It’s no coincidence that the Extinction Rebellion campaign has grown so rapidly in these last months too. These are signs of the Uranus in Taurus energy. We’re having to face the demand of awakening our value systems to include the animal kingdom, the environment and our relationship to the Earth we live on. It’s the take our heads out of the sand moment.
The meeting point of security
Human beings are the meeting point of stability and change. We already are that! To me that is truly amazing. We have the potential to be both in the flesh and fluid. We just get caught up in solidity through what we think we own, when truly everything is on temporary loan to us. Life would be very different if we truly realised that. We know that how we respond to change – desired change and necessary change – influences the future. Uranus represents the evolution of how we respond to changing realities. The changing reality right now is big picture but is in each of our hands as small picture. We’re called to truly act resourcefully in our relationship to the Earth and environment. We can all make a difference, however small or insignificant it may seem. This is not a choice; with Uranus in Taurus it becomes a demand. And it’s personal to each of us.
In many ways this is a return to Feminine values - an awakening of the Earth Mother energy as reality. Taurus ruler is Venus Goddess of Love, so in this phase we are asked to take radical steps to harmonise and truly appreciate our relationships on the biggest scale, from our relationship to our self, to our value systems, to others, to the animal kingdom and most of all, to the environment. Taurus brings us the personal element; Uranus delivers the impersonal or collective. Einstein again says it beautifully: ‘A human being is part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. We experience our selves, our thoughts and feelings as something separate from the rest - a kind of optical delusion of consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from the prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty...We shall require a substantially new manner of thinking if mankind is to survive.’
If you’re asking what can I do to engage this process consciously, here are just a few suggestions:
Key qualities of Uranus in Taurus:
Body consciousness – nurturing – slowing down – resting – time in nature
New levels of self-sustaining – consuming less – cultivating deep appreciation for life’s simple blessings
Celebrating beauty in uniqueness – engaging in creativity/music/art/writing for its own sake
Questioning your value system – living in simpler ways – supporting green business – conscious consumerism – regularly clearing out
Growing security in change – stability as an inside job – growing self sufficiency on every level – leaving the ‘9 to 5’ – being entrepreneurial
Financial innovation - wise and ethical investing – alternative currencies – trading & barter
Environmental activism – animal rights – organic farming – alternative technologies
Women’s rights – awakening and nurturing the Feminine perspective
Shadow qualities of Uranus in Taurus:
Holding on to comfort zones – stubbornness – refusing to change - stagnation
Bigotry – fear of difference – fear of change
Over-indulgence – using food, sex, physical comfort, as a bypass to being more real
Attachment to money or ‘stuff’ – wealth over worth – being possessive – holding more than is needed

We are creatures of the Mystery are we not? And our world is a manifestation of that Mystery. Yet we also give the Mystery reality. And more often than not we make it into what we want it to be. Or believe it to be. Simply through our perspective. For we are creators. Through the wonder of imagination… the thrill of romance ….. the pull of expansive vision…. the allure of glamour… the subtle touch of the numinous ….. the magic of love…. the opening of compassion…. and also through the projection of our own self beliefs, concepts or judgments. Yet how much of what we see is really real? Maybe reality is recognising that reality is whatever we choose it to be? Down the rabbit hole anyone?
Pisces is the zodiac sign associated with infinite realities and unlimited possibility. There’s been a strong focus on this sign in the first few months of this year. The recent Mercury retrograde through February and March has offered us the opportunity to explore the mystery of dreams, imagination, vision and spirituality, yet also our own unique version of reality. This Pisces season is being consistently energised by the long-term journey of Mystic Neptune (Pisces ruler) through its own sign (2011 - 2026) and now by the presence of dark feminine Black Moon Lilith from 3 May to 27 January 2020.
What is Black Moon Lilith? Like the sign of Pisces, she’s a mystery. In astrology there are four Liliths - Asteroid Lilith, Dark Moon Lilith (a rarely seen potential second Moon to the Earth) the Lilith star, Algol, and what I’m speaking of here, Black Moon Lilith - a point in the universe related to the orbit of Moon and Earth. This Lilith oscillates its position through the zodiac over a period of eight years ten months. Astrologically she represents an alchemical process held by the dark feminine. It concerns the integration of our light and darkness, spirit and matter, our Being and the dark layers of our shadow. Black Moon Lilith calls us beyond the beyond; she calls us let go of self and express the numinous, to express our true genius in a human body. She’s a gateway for the Sacred Feminine. Her journey through Pisces is the final phase of this latest cycle that began 23 March 2011.
Pisces is the sign that represents the ocean of consciousness; it’s about soul connection, vulnerability, compassion, forgiveness and trust. Black Moon Lilith in Pisces opens the door to some of our most sensitive inner spaces, with a potential for opening deep compassionate connectivity and sublime feelings of beauty. The need to fully express on a feeling level is strong in Pisces; psychic sensitivity is extremely high. This placement challenges, and may catalyze, any resistance we have to deeply feeling. With Black Moon Lilith in Pisces we are opened - sometimes despite our self - to be profoundly moved by both beauty and pain. Or we begin to deeply recognise where we cut off from feeling, becoming alienated from our deep self and others.
Pisces is the sign of unconditional love and unity. It’s where we yearn for the Beloved and yet may deny the vulnerability needed to open that space. Black Moon Lilith’s journey through this watery sign reveals both the yearning for love and our refusal to go there - for there are guardians at the gate of our soul’s potential for deep sweet connection. These guardians at the gate don’t look pretty. They comprise our resistance to our own vulnerability and tenderness, our culture's denial of the sacred gifts of the Divine Feminine and our rage at that dishonouring. Black Moon Lilith brings awareness and the potential for healing magic to these wounds wherever she plays. If we are willing to walk with her in Pisces we are called to fiercely face the guardians we have placed above our vulnerability; the shadows of our deepest fears, self-rejection and shame, our mental beliefs and judgments about those deep raw energies. It’s a layer cake with hard frosting yet deep sweetness as its core. To reach the sweet deep we need courage, fierce commitment and trust. The question is trust in what?
Trust is a Pisces quality; it’s the highest trust. Trust in the numinous; trust in the unseen, the unknown; trust that we are truly held; trust that truly nothing is as it seems. As we commit to eating the frosting and digesting the layers that Black Moon Lilith reveals - our own self-betrayal and our rage at our culture’s denial of the Divine Feminine and ourselves as women - we penetrate the guardians at the gate, the self’s defences. We begin to recognise that the energies we’ve judged, that we’ve refused and projected as unacceptable, that we’ve hidden, the places we’ve been ashamed, humiliated and exploited, are fuel for the fires of the soul’s expression. As we fiercely face our hardness and defences with the gentlest Piscean qualities of compassion and unconditional love, we open the sweetness of soul. Paradoxical? Yes! For Black Moon Lilith is the paradox. She represents our deepest shadows, our brightest light, the sweetest vibration beneath pain or rage. Black Moon Lilith asks a great deal of us; she’s disruptive; she’s inconvenient to our left-brained plans and our preconceived beliefs. She insists on attention when we least want to give it. Most of all in Pisces she demands (a good Lilith word) that we trust the light of the unseen whilst we embrace our darkness. She insists we keep penetrating the layers of what we perceive to be 'reality' in order to discover truth at the core. This requires vulnerability… the vulnerability of openness …. the vulnerability of openness that is truly our greatest strength.
Vulnerability as strength? Is this really true? Well, we have to go there to know this. For the proof we feel we need is in the eating. Vulnerability may seem defenseless – and it is. Yet within that exposure is a core power that is the truest security. For the openness of vulnerability enables true response. In that place, the Real opens. We know Truth and we are called to express it. Black Moon Lilith is real, sometimes shockingly so. To our small self such raw openness is confronting; it’s certainly not comfortable. Yet it’s truly refreshing; it’s profoundly opening and transformative. It opens the gate of the soul. Black Moon Lilith in us knows that nothing is as it seems. What we most resist is the place of the gift. She calls us there..... into the deepest recognition that everything is Life ... and into the acknowledgment of our responsibility for what we create with Life.
Key awareness for this process:
Trusting your intuition, knowing, visionary capacity, sixth sense.
Keeping life simple. Recognising confusion, about anything, and letting it go.
Staying out of victimisation, paranoia. Recognise not everything is about you; people have their own lives. Not feeding the mind with negative imagination, fantasy or projection.
Facing and embracing your insecurities and self-disconnection.
Viewing life as a movie that we potentially get caught up in.
Cultivating presence, being here now.
Body practices that support openness and flow: yoga, dance,
Quiet time and retreat; aloneness
Good quality rest and sleep
Key Questions:
What opens you to the experience of beauty, magic, soul connection, bliss?
Where/how do you experience deep emotional connection? To your self? To others?
What practice – spiritual, soulful, artistic, creative – opens you up? Commit to consciously making space for it.
What habits of closure do you have? What triggers closure? What kind of experiences, people or places do you avoid?
What numb-out habits might you have? Food, drugs, alcohol, co-dependency, over-working? What’s really behind them? What might you be trying hard not to feel?
What might you need to forgive? Of your self? Of others?

Are we here to be comfortable? Or are we here to be fully alive? Awake in our responsibility to create and contribute from a growing conscious engagement with what’s in front of us? Current planetary transits are compelling us to look at this: what we engage with and how, and where we allow our comfort zones to dictate what’s priority. It’s a radical shift within an ongoing intensive process, the grounding of which we’re just beginning to see.
This strong focus growing, ongoing for the rest of this year, is activated particularly strongly over this next week as the two heavyweight planets of our universe, Pluto Lord of the Underworld and Wise Elder Saturn station retrograde in earth sign Capricorn. A station retrograde is a pause point in a long-term process. It opens our awareness keenly to particular issues. Those ruled by the sign of Capricorn and its opposite sign Cancer, where the Nodes of the Moon are currently playing. No matter what sun sign you are, these processes will be playing out somewhere in your life.
Pluto and Saturn (ruler of Capricorn) station retrograde respectively on 24 & 29 April. Also they are travelling within a maximum of 10 degrees from the South Node of karma until December making exact conjunctions 4 & 30 April and 4 July. Over this period in particular we’re drawn to explore our Capricorn experience. As this is a personal and collective journey, we see the challenge of Capricorn shadows playing out both in our lives and on the world stage. The themes are heating up right through to January 2020 when Pluto and Saturn make an exact conjunction. They’re joined by Blessing-giver Jupiter in Capricorn all next year. It’s promising to be a year of truly radical shifts. More to come on that later.
This strong focus on Capricorn all year means the aims we have and the methods we use to achieve are a core focus. Earthy Capricorn is the zodiac sign most associated with ambition and achievement. In its highest expression it’s wise elder or shaman energy - the capacity to manifest that that contributes to a wider sphere than oneself. Between these two poles of personal achievement and making a worthwhile social contribution lies the Capricorn journey to self mastery, meaning the willingness and integrity to take full responsibility for oneself and what one creates, along with how that impacts the collective. We see this process plainly in our world, along with the calling for change. The patriarchal energy of control, abuse of power, the-ends-justifies-the-means has to go, for all our sakes and for our planet. This is Pluto in Capricorn’s task – to irrevocably destroy in order that we may rise like the phoenix. Pluto reveals the choiceless choice. And we are facing it. Change or die. Truly it’s the same thing. For in changing we die to the old system or the outmoded self that has played its part. And we release the energy locked in old patterning that is needed to implement required change. Pluto and Saturn travelling with the South Node in Capricorn represent the bucket of karma that we must face. It’s about power. In the shift to a more authentic response-ability for life we claim the power to transform comfort zones that keep us seemingly safe but asleep.
Capricorn’s calling to achieve is a positive human attribute. At its highest it’s about bringing integrity to life; it stands for accountability, honour, making a worthwhile contribution to life that is tangible and manifest. The shadow of Capricorn lies in control, ruthless ambition and abuse of power. We see this at play in the death-throes of our current bureaucratic systems. And we all know the desire for control in our own lives. It seems to be a normal human trait to want to manage our experience. But is it natural? Is it even useful?
When the pressure for change is upon us, as it is now both personally and collectively, it’s uncomfortable. In the main human beings dislike discomfort. The temptation is to try and fix it, control it, run from it, change it. One of the most common phrases I heard when experiencing earthquakes in New Zealand was ‘get back to normal?’ But what if ‘back to normal’ is killing our true aliveness and our planet? Witness the Extinction Rebellion actions this week and we see how this insidious desire for comfort numbs us. Stock phrases such as ‘costing businesses millions of pounds’ preventing people getting on with their lives’, demonstrate the real issue. We want to manage any experience that threatens the status quo – even when the status quo is numbing us, even killing us. Pluto and Saturn in Capricorn are impelling us to acknowledge this fully, to honour our response-ability as guardians of our earth lives and our planet. Pluto as the destroyer of the old systems that no longer serve; Saturn as the response-ability to build new structures for life from the deep wisdom of what is truly needed for us all.
Capricorn ruler Saturn at his core reveals that the power of self-mastery is available to each of us in every moment. He reveals the strength we need to transmute our karma. He reveals the truth of power; that it lies in our choices, in our motives and how we operate in our lives and world. We all have habits of control; we all have underlying fears of claiming the power to fully be our self and contribute consciously in our world. This current journey with Saturn, South Node and Pluto focus is a time frame for consciously exploring where we allow fear or limitation to control us, where we try to control our experience, to play safe. Wisdom – the Saturn in Capricorn gift – reveals that much as we might try, we cannot control our experience. That is the plain truth. We can learn to respond to it consciously however, claiming self-mastery, embracing our fear of change whilst not living from that fear. ‘Back to normal' is the illusion of safety. Beneath it lies our attempts to keep the ultimate truth - the knowledge of death - at bay.
Anywhere the South Node of karma travels points us towards its companion the North Node. If we consider South Node to be the bucket of karma – what we already know, where we’re comfortable, what must change – the North Node is what we’re called to develop. It’s not that the South Node experience is wrong; it’s simply done. It’s a platform from which we must stretch into a new capacity. What might this capacity be? North Node in Cancer shows us. It’s the sign of mother – sensitivity, kindness, tenderness, nurture and belonging. It’s also vulnerability. What we do with vulnerability in times of change is key. Our response to vulnerability dictates whether we energise the Capricorn shadow of lock-down and control, or activate the open field of loving kindness that is Cancer.
We can view this Capricorn/Cancer nodal potential for growth from many places. On a personal level it’s about opening and allowing the embrace of vulnerability. It’s truly acknowledging life is uncertain. It’s about riding the uncomfortable edge of change with willingness, openness and self-kindness. It’s about asking for help. It’s recognising we’re all in this together, that our belonging is with each other and the blessed earth, at least on this human level. It’s about not going back to sleep in ‘normal’ but recognising the birthing process of new potential. The process of birth is edgy; it can be uncomfortable; it can also be truly empowering. A mother goes through the pain because it’s worthwhile. Birth is a process of contraction and expansion, a significant mirror of the Capricorn/Cancer themes right now. As we expand and contract in our own evolutionary processes we need to be kind to ourselves yet we also need to actively engage. We need to acknowledge the process is not only worthwhile; it’s essential.
Birthing new life in our own lives energetically supports the birth of a collective shift. Energetically we feed the potential for cultural change; our inspiration and passion for life nurtures that in others; our conscious actions encourage others to step up. Collectively this shift is about acknowledgement and honouring of feminine wisdom, the gifts of ‘mother’. And that includes our Mother Earth. As we honour the feminine knowing and wisdom alive in both men and women, we come back to basics. We undo the apparent complexity of the change process and return to simple common sense. As we stand up and speak the truth of our knowing, radical change begins to happen. Look at Jacinda Ardern’s proposal for change in the gun laws in New Zealand, passed through the bureaucratic system in less than a week. We can all play our part, however small or insignificant it appears. For ‘small and insignificant’ is the voice of ‘normal’; it’s the Capricorn shadow of self-doubt. Radical change is possible – if we want it enough. And that’s the question of these times isn’t it?Do we want it enough? Do we want it enough to face the potential discomfort, to make the step out of normal into conscious evolution. Current transits in Capricorn reveal where we are asleep to that, afraid of it, doubt our power for change, still play by our own outmoded rules and restrictions. The new synergy of this nodal polarity, Capricorn and Cancer, holds the potential of challenges and tough choices faced with wisdom, kindness and connection. Where is that called for in your life?

What is the self? And what is its true purpose? How many of us have asked that existential question ‘Who am I?’ And how many of us have sought the answer through spiritual teachings, psychology or other forms of self-enquiry? From the perspective of astrology the entry of the planetoid Chiron (known as Wounded Healer or Rainbow Bridge) into Aries in mid February is calling our attention deeper into this question. Over the next eight years Chiron is guiding us in another spiral of growth. It’s an opening into deepening understanding of what makes us who we are and how we express that.
Aries is the first sign of the zodiac. It represents the self and the experience: I am, I exist, I act. Being a cardinal sign Aries is about action. It’s the fire of initiative; it’s the beginning point; it’s passion and drive; it’s immediate response or reaction. When Chiron journeys through a sign its energy highlights any wound to the expression of that sign, along with its potential for healing. With Chiron – the paradox of the wound and its healing - the revelation is the jewel already contained within the wound. It’s similar to the grit in an oyster shell creating a lustrous pearl. The process of discomfort eventually gives rise to a new form. With Chiron in Aries until 2027 we are uncovering the fundamental wound to our very sense of self: I am, I exist, I act. What is that wound? It is our feeling of separation from our self and its instinctive expression of being alive. Chiron’s presence in Aries opens the potential revelation of where we’re not fully alive and expressive of our self. It can show us where our experience of life has led us to believe that the self, the ego – and in that, myself - is somehow wrong, damaged or not enough.
To give that context let’s look at Chiron’s recent journey through last sign of the zodiac Pisces. Pisces is where we dissolve our sense of separation. Very simply that may be through meditation or spiritual awakening, through love, connection with nature, being in ‘the zone’ or through the shadows of co-dependence or addiction. Every human being knows the dissolution of separation in some way, even just momentarily, but we may not recognise it, or be conscious of what’s taking place. Pisces is where we have the potential to experience the placeless place of no separation between oneself and All-That-Is. Pisces (last sign of the zodiac) represents the dissolution of self and is followed in the infinite spiral of evolution by Aries as the arrival point. Here that no-self has a self through which it may express, move and act: I am, I exist, I act. It’s the experience of individuality with its potential for full aliveness.
Chiron transits, no matter which sign they traverse, activate the wound of separation within us. They are never resolved by external action, but only in facing and embracing the core wound within. In the sign of Aries that wound is connected to our core existence, expressing as a wound to self-confidence and self-assertion, but even deeper than that to the very fact of ‘I am’ with its natural expression of being fully alive. Witness a young child in the fullness of itself as joyful or in pain; there’s no holding back. That child is aliveness itself. This is the fullness of Aries energy. Naturally as we grow we learn to temper that full expression yet for most of us that involves a core separation from our self at a very young age, through the first experience of pain, judgment or abandonment. We begin to hold a core belief that we are unacceptable, unlovable, unworthy in some way, or that the world is an unsafe place to be our self. It could be said that this is the essential journey of losing oneself to re-discover oneself. Yet it’s also where we begin to learn to limit our self, to hide our light and hold back from being fully alive.
Chiron in Aries is a gateway to rediscovering the vibrant aliveness that is our natural birthright, simply for being here. We don’t have to earn it or be a certain way to deserve it, at our core aliveness is who we are. It is innocent and fully itself. Chiron in Aries shows us where we have chosen to cut ourselves off from the source of that aliveness, to disconnect from Source and plug into belief in separation. That belief causes a distortion in our self-expression and the confidence to simply be our self. Very simply this distortion expresses as an unhealthy lack of self, playing the victim for example, or as an over-assertion of self through force.
The journey of Chiron in Pisces for the last eight years has opened many of us to the deepening understanding of our true nature, one with Source. Even in that we may have taken on beliefs that the self is wrong and has to be denied in favour of a more ‘spiritual’ way of being. There’s no doubt that the wounded self has to be transformed (this is Chiron’s gift) but the strange thing is when that self is consciously connected to All-That-Is, it comes to rest. The self that knows it’s connected to its Source and is an integral aspect of That can and will let go. In the deep presence of Self (our I Am nature) the self dissolves, appearing only as the vessel needed to navigate this physical world. Here it discovers its true function, as a vehicle for Source.
The link between last and first sign of the zodiac, Pisces and Aries, is the synergy of being and doing. The sign of Aries does not consider or reflect on action; it simply acts and reacts. Chiron beginning his journey through this passionate yet innocent fire sign offers us the opportunity to explore where we act from, or where we don’t and why. The upcoming New Moon in Aries highlights that opportunity. There will be many more over the next eight years. Skilful understanding of the nature of self and its place as servant of All-That-Is is the potential gift of this journey, as is our capacity to be fully alive in the joyful innocence of our natural self and its expression.

On 18 February minor planet Chiron moved from last sign of the zodiac Pisces across the equinox point into Aries. This week that change is activated. It’s the start of a new cycle. Chiron may be classed astronomically as a minor planet yet he’s a major player in these times of intense change. Known both as the Wounded Healer and Rainbow Bridge, Chiron guides us through the paradox and dilemmas of spirit being human. (See recent blog The Magic of Chiron for more on Chiron energy) On Wednesday the energy of his new cycle in Aries is activated by a Full Moon at 0 Libra at 02.43GMT on 21 March, with the Sun exact conjunction at 16.47GMT. Chiron’s new field of conscious growth until 2027 is actively opening now.
Aries, as first sign of the zodiac, is where the infinite possibilities of last sign Pisces take form as action. Aries is fire: the up-thrust of spring, the drive of impulse and action, the fire of passion and reaction. It’s the beginning point, the moment of decision. It’s now! Aries is the warrior energy of the zodiac, expressing as instinctual reaction, courage, focus and initiating presence. Aries is self-assertion and confidence. It’s passion and self-determination, a clear ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to life as it’s presenting right now. Perhaps unsurprisingly, this first sign of the zodiac is the innocent ‘me-first-focus’ of a child, where no other viewpoint is possible. It’s self, the ego. With Chiron now playing in the Aries field of growth, the true purpose of ego is our new quest. For Chiron reveals where we need to pay close attention to our wound and its healing, both personally and collectively.
Chiron’s presence in fiery Aries for the next eight years will reveal to us the challenge of too much or too little Aries energy. Perhaps you can see how too much or unfocused passion may become irritation or anger? How, like an enraged toddler, impatience can run riot with a demand for my needs to be met now? Conversely too little Aries energy can express as a lack of motivation or drive, failing to initiate or giving up too easily. An absence of its warming fire and focus gives rise to a lack of self-confidence or paralysing fear. For if we don’t know we are worthy merely in being our self, how may we act to truly take care of our self? If we believe through spiritual concepts that to have ego is wrong, rather than recognising its true place as servant of consciousness, how may we act effectively for change in our lives or the world?
Chiron’s new focus - building a healthy sense of self as the agent of one’s true Being - is being energised this week. Challenges that arise will point towards the relevance of that for you. Do you need more or less fire? What’s your relationship to your will, to your desire nature? Here are some questions that may support the opening of this new chapter in you:
What are you passionate about? Are you acting on that? What do you need to begin? When are you going to do that? What’s your relationship to anger?Where might you need to be more direct? What requires more honesty, straightforwardness? What needs courage right now?Where might you need to take a risk?Where do you need to be more or less self-centred?
Chiron in his role as Rainbow Bridge presents us with unavoidable dilemmas wherever he’s playing. His passage through Pisces brought us face-to-face with issues around feminine energies: the paradox of powerlessness playing out as victim consciousness and the real power of surrender, true receptivity and compassion, soulfulness and spiritual connection. His sojourn in Aries is opening us to a potential rebalancing of more masculine qualities: the confidence and assertion of a conscious and full-bodied ‘yes’ to life, the engagement of our desire nature and the drive to act, the will to risk, to begin. This is both a new beginning and a re-cycling, for we all have a self. The unfolding question is: where is that self an evolving reflection of your true nature and where is it merely a facade? However your self is expressing right now the call of Chiron in Aries is to engage it and evolve it.
To support and open your understanding of the unique emphasis of this new cycle in your life I’m offering a limited number of 30 minute ‘The Wound to Self’ consultations at the moment. Inspired? I invite you to to book in.

When Mercury, the planet that rules logic and facts, turns retrograde, it’s time to pay attention. Conversely that's exactly when our mental attention begins to wander, especially when Mercury goes retrograde in a sign like watery Pisces as is due 5th to 28th March.
Pisces rules the worlds of imagination and dreams, spirit and soulfulness. It’s where we disappear through the touch of the luminous and numinous. It's the realm of spirit opening our yearning to experience the bliss of oneness or the stillness and peace of meditative practice. Yet clearly the mind has a plethora of functions. It's our tool for navigating life. So Mercury's long sojourn in Pisces brings the question (and the potential frustration) : what use is a disappearing mind when we have to navigate the world of time, plans and obligations? It’s a challenge for sure but it brings its gifts. And there are pointers to help us navigate this phase well.
When Mercury is retrograde the mind processes differently. One could say we become more right hemisphere dominant. We’re drawn to the big picture, to feelings and nuances, often to every possibility other than the one right in front of us. Hence the reputation of Mercury retrograde as a phase for distraction, glitches to our best-laid plans and the warnings: don’t sign contracts, travel or do anything calling for detail orientation. Rather than paying attention to warnings I would suggest Mercury retrograde is simply revealing different aspects of mind. This is especially true when Mercury is travelling through Pisces. Ideally it’s a time for dreaming, soulful connection, meditation, creativity and simply going with the flow. Wonderfully appealing and real as that is, in our day-to-day life that can bring its challenge. So what can we call on as support during this nine-week period that Mercury resides in Pisces? You may already be discovering as he’s been in Pisces’s watery realm since 10 February. Nevertheless here are two key qualities to call on until Mercury crosses the equinox point into Aries on 17 April.
A key quality of Pisces is intuition. Although it’s sometimes lost in the busyness of our day-to-day lives, intuition is a calling card from beyond the rational mind. It cannot be explained rationally yet if we trust it intuition can be a potent guiding system. Ever had that nudge to call a friend only to discover they’re facing a challenge you didn’t know about? Ever had the feeling to look at a particular website online only to find it has a sale on exactly what you need? That’s intuition at play. And perhaps you've heard more compelling stories about intuition than those simple day-to-day occurrences. Intuition can save your life. It did mine in a major earthquake in New Zealand. Call it your gut feeling, your higher self, angels or guides, or simply synchronicity, intuition works. And it’s your support whilst Mercury is in Pisces. Mercury's message is: slow down, tune in and listen. He also points towards one more support… trust.
Many of us could point to incidences of receiving intuition then not paying it the attention it calls for perhaps? What we receive subtly may not seem to make sense sometimes, except with hindsight. Intuition can disrupt our plans and our patterned beliefs about life, even about people. Occasionally intuition may guide us where we wouldn't usually go. It may call us to speak up when we’re afraid or keep silent when we want to react. There are reasons we sometimes ignore intuition but are they valid? Perhaps in our engagement of intuition we learn and grow? Intuition always calls for engagement. When we act from it, it does grow. We learn to live from that deep still space beyond the push and pull of rationality. We see the magic of that opening doors where the logical mind goes 'Wow" stunned into silence, perhaps bowing in great-fullness, Mercury retrograde in Pisces will challenge us to not only open and receive deeper inner guidance but to actually BE it.
When we receive intuition our trust of our internal guidance system is honed. We’re asked to pay heed or act on that which we cannot substantiate other than through experience. Our capacity for trust is primed right now. With Mercury in Pisces, about to move retrograde, our inner guidance system is tuned in to subtleties, other possibilities, signals beyond our rationale. We’re more aware (subconsciously perhaps) of the interconnectedness of all life and open to its frequency communications. We’re naturally more receptive when Mercury is in Pisces – unless we’re fighting and struggling to maintain left-brain control. That’s a futile endeavour normally, let alone in phases like this. Ever tried to fit all the possibilities of a particular course of action in the box of your rational mind? There’s a label for it – monkey mind…and it comes from the desire to control, when the calling right now is for us to let go, flow, trust inner knowing and receive its magical solutions. Of course trust can be scary to the mind that wants to work it all out. It requires that we not know the outcome. But do we ever? Isn’t outcome simply one of many possibilities? And isn’t that where the unexpected hand of life’s magic can surprise us most? With Mercury in Pisces this is both the challenge and the gift.
Trust does not mean we abdicate response-ability for our life. In its true sense it asks that we walk hand-in-hand with life. To move and let go … to tune in to subtleties… to act then listen deeper…perhaps to wait..... then to respond … that’s the flow. During this Mercury retrograde, it’s certainly time to listen deeper to your inner realm. There are gifts of connection, creativity and even deepening love to be discovered. Pisces is the place of Being. It's where we connect deeper into beyond self, the vast field of potential that truly is our nature. There's a real opportunity here: to know that deeper. And also to see how that plays on the surface of life. Without doubt there's a need to be practical during this particular Mercury retrograde, challenging as that might be. That's being response-able with the rhythms at play right now. If you know you’re travelling don’t try and wing it, pay attention to timings, allow more space in your plans. Similarly if you’re in protracted negotiations for anything, accept any delays as part of the process. Whenever Mercury plays in retrograde there are unknown factors to be revealed, often to one’s best interest. It's simply to trust the process, no matter what seems to take place.
Through this phase timings around 5 March, 14-20 March, 24 March to 2 April and 12 April are particularly fluid. Reflecting on the following themes will be supportive: Your relationship to trust, trusting yourself, trusting life, trust and fear, trusting to luck, trust combined with self responsibility and action, trust without it.
