Being Melody by Melody Robinson Wright - 1M ago

As a solo entrepreneur, I’m finding that for me, time is an arbitrary thing. I wear all the hats. I am the bookkeeper, accountant, creative department, business development, sales and marketing, maintenance, and even IT. Life would be a lot easier if I could outsource everything, but outsourcing cost money, and when you’re first starting capital is something you treasure. So I find that I have to be creative and use my time wisely to make a dent in my forever long to do list. Skin care is an essential part of anyone’s routine, and it seems like we’re reminded…

Femininity, Strength, Passion, and Courage. Those were the emotions I felt as I walked into First Lady of Relentless Church in Greenville S.C.,  Aventer Gray’s launch party for her new brand, Aventer Gray Co., and her line of products called Harmony Reign. Harmony Reign is described as “A platform for women to come together for Healing, Empowerment, Inspiration, and Restoration by providing the resources, tools, and support needed to create ’Harmony’ in all areas of their lives, so that women around the world can genuinely’ Reign’ with purpose, power, and clarity.” Dress | HandBag| As we patiently waited to enter…

Operating as often the only women of color in the room for the past ten years has been an exhausting trip. One where I’ve had to tone down who I was so that I could exist in a space that was not created for me to succeed in. Where diversity and inclusion meant I was the one called for the photo op. Where expressing my feelings of inequality deemed as being too angry not being a team player.  This experience has ultimately led to a trickle-down effect, where other areas in my life were being impacted by my pulling back,…

We’re moving! I still can’t believe that in just a few short days we’ll no longer be Philadelphians. The entire process has been bittersweet. I’m excited for what’s to come but I know that I will miss a lot about the place that I’ve called home for the past nine years. I’m taking the time out to write this in an effort to ignore the pile of clothes on my bed that needs to find a home, a box, a suitcase, or anything they’ll fit in so that they can be transported down south with us. As we’ve been preparing…

You ever just look in your closet and ask yourself what you were thinking when you bought a particular article of clothing. I’ve found myself doing that a lot more than usual lately which makes me kick myself for deviating from my capsule wardrobe. Admittedly I’m not too happy with my handbag collection. While I feel I have some very nice pieces there a few in there that were impulse purchases that I don’t think ever sparked joy. Sure, I can sell them on a consignment website like PoshMark, but what stays the forefront of my mind is what else…

I read a lot, a whole lot. Reading is for me is a cheap getaway. One week I can be in a faraway land working with narcissistic dragons and the next I can be in the UK helping a detective solve a murder mystery. Reading gives me a chance to escape reality. Last year I made it a point to start incorporating more self-help and business books into my reading list. I decided that for every two fiction books I would read one self-help/business book.  Thank goodness for my Amazon Prime Reading subscription and Kindle Unlimited which allow me to…

Let me start off by saying I have not watched the Marie Kondo show that is taking the world by storm on Netflix yet, however, for the past two months my husband and I have been doing some serious decluttering to our home. We’ve lived in this house for almost six years, and we make honest attempts at trying to do the occasional spring cleaning. Being that we want a change of scenery, we thought it’d be a good idea to get a jump start on whittling down our clutter.  I also felt the mess in our home was keeping…

This post is sponsored by LOFT.  It’s cliche to scream out New Year, New Me. Here’s what’s wrong with the whole “new year, new me” thing. You’re telling yourself that the old you wasn’t good enough. You’re saying to yourself that you’re ready to throw away all your hard work, unlearn the life lessons that you’ve learned and shed memories of times when love was enough. I don’t want a new me. I’m going into 2019 knowing that I’m not perfect, admitting that I have flaws, but you see the beauty in growing older is that every day you get a…

This post is sponsored by LOFT. #loftlocalstyle #loveloft  Holiday travel can be pretty hectic. I’m always in awe of the people’s travel style. The people who show up at the train and airports immaculately dressed in their six-inch heels always get kudos from me.  Don’t get me wrong, I love a cute pair of shoes and nice little fit, but when traveling I don’t want my fashion to get in the way of me being comfortable. I also don’t like to look too comfortable in just sweats in a hoodie. You never know who you’ll meet or what stops you…

This post was done in partnership with LOFT. #LOVELOFT #LOFTLOCALSTYLE Even though I’d rather not deal with the colder temperatures I can’t help but love it when the weather calls for pulling out my coat, scarves, hats, and sweaters. To me, it’s when you can look your most fashionable because you layer different textures and looks to create your own unique style. Since I’m still trying to maintain somewhat of a minimalist closet I’m always looking for pieces that are versatile and can be styled in many different ways. Sweaters can be bulky and will take up a lot of valuable real…
