With just over two weeks since release, I am truly staggered at how the book has been received all over the globe. It's already been flying off shelves in North America, UK and Europe, Australia and South Africa. I'm so happy that people all over the planet are beginning to use the practices, meditations and reflections to connect with their true selves, their mission, the loved ones around them, and their God. Wow.
So I end the day in a spirit of gratitude. I am so, so thankful for the gift of this book. I simply sat down on the sofa when Isabel was away in Paraguay a couple of years ago and wrote a chapter a night. It flowed through me. It didn't feel like it came from
me, rather, it emerged through me. So it didn't feel like hard work, rather, it just felt as if I was on an exciting ride....and thank goodness I learnt to touch type when I worked at PWC back in the early '90s!
I'm grateful to my family for their support and inspiration and also of course to my teachers, Rev Paul John Roach who has been my inspiration, friend and companion for some 8 years now (check out Unity FM's World Spirituality Show which Paul presents), and Arjuna Ardagh who taught me the art of Awakening Coaching. Arjuna's inspiration runs like a current throughout the book; I use many if not all of the practices in the book in my coaching practice as well as others that you can check out for yourself in Arjuna's extensive back-catalogue and on-line videos.
Enjoy the book and THANK YOU my friends!

We spent a fabulous day with the author of 'Being Present', Darren Cockburn. I first heard Darren being interviewed by our friend Paul John Roach on his show, 'World Spirituality'. Paul suggested we get together because he's not too far from us.
And what a wonderful guy Darren is! He has such a warm, genuine, loving heart. I'm genuine when I say that it is truly a rare thing to come across somebody with such a gentle spirit. The vibes this man gives off are really quite awesome. My whole family had a fabulous day with him, and we topped it off with a delightful conversation over a cuppa.

Please have a look at this video, there's so much wisdom and love and connection in Darren's words. God truly comes flowing out through this book. If there's one thing that will vastly improve your walk here on this planet at this time, it is being present to 'what is'. Enjoy!

I've got a chapter in my book, Mind-Spirit Detox, called simply, 'Play!'. This might be one of the most important chapters in the book. Why? Because we live in a playful, fun universe. Love is the very matter that binds everything together in the Cosmos and love is light, it has high vibration, it is playful.
If you want a barometer for how you're doing in your walk on this planet, it's not measured by how long you spend in meditation, how many retreats you go on, how much therapy you're having, the depth of your philosophical knowledge. No, ha! Thats so wrong it's genuinely laughable.
I'd actually invite you not to measure any progress because it's not measurable. It's not comparable. Your very being is fundamentally esoteric. Your true self is merely an observer, it's consciousness, it is pure love.
However, if you desperately desire some kind of an indication as to how you're getting along, then I'll allow you one...and that's how much you smile, how much you laugh, just how silly you can be. When we let our inhibitions go and we let love and laughter flow through us, we throw away all of the unhelpful things of being a 'grown up'. We reconnect with the inner child.
Don't know how to do this? Well why not try this. JUMP! It's absolutely impossible to jump and not laugh, even if it's just laughing at yourself. So here are my girls and me jumping yesterday, just to prove the point that I really only ever write about what I actually do myself.
My thoughts aren't from a book my friends, they're just a reflection of what I actually do.
And if you're going to do anything today, please make sure that it involves jumping. And if you can't jump, try something else, but it's got to be just a little bit silly, ok?!
Have fun and send me your photos!

One of the key benefits of Awakening Coaching is to learn how to de-program our minds. The mind is an amazing thing. The mind created everything on this planet that is great about humanity. But the mind also creates everything that is bad.
There is so much activity every day in the mind that is largely invisible to the outside world. A lot of this activity is wasteful or harmful. Much of this mind activity is based upon the programs that are running in the background. Awakening Coaching recognises these programs. Recognition that they are indeed there is the first step. We then ask if the programs are helpful or unhelpful. If they are unhelpful to us, we have some beautiful, simple but incredibly powerful tools that dissolve these programs and the stranglehold that they have over our lives.
Typical programs are based on beliefs. We often form these beliefs early on in life. Examples are:
- I'm not good enough
- I'll always be poor
- Nobody loves me
- There's not enough time
- People are judging me
- Life is a struggle
I was reminded the other day of the truth that once we dissolve these unhelpful programs, we come to the realisation that actually we're all pretty much the same under the surface. Deep down, our true nature is just awareness. It's just consciousness.
- You have a body, but you are not your body
- You have feelings, but you are not your feelings
- You have possessions, but you are not your possessions
- You have thoughts, but you are not your thoughts
- You have a history, but you are not your history
Get it? See, it's simple. The truth is that you are just the thing that is aware of all of these things. That's the reason that however old people are, they always say that they don't feel old. That's entirely true, because the bit that you feel about who you are deep down is this awareness that lies outside space and time. The real you is the observer of it all: it sees but cannot be seen, because it has no size, no shape, no beginning and no end. Some people refer to this as your spirit or your soul.
We can see therefore that your spirit has no form. It is no-thing, or nothing. If I am no-thing and you are no-thing, then what separates nothing from nothing? Answer: NOTHING!
My book, Mind-Spirit Detox, is packed full of practices that are simple but profound and they all point us towards the truth of who or what you really are; who or what God or Spirit really is, and what all of that means in your walk here on planet earth. The book enables you to de-program the unhelpful stuff, re-program the good stuff and re-boot your entire system to become the best version of you...the ultimate redesign of the perfect you.
Anyhow, I said that I was reminded of this the other day. What brought it to mind? I was with my family last weekend in a wonderful place called Cotehele in Cornwall, when we decided to pose for a photograph on a thing I called a 'horse mounty steppy thing' (correctly known as a 'mounting block'). And we all magically became the same height. It made me recognise that under all of the outer manifestation, and all of the inner programming, we are all the same. Here we all are in the photograph, below. Looks like I'm just smiling for the camera, but deep within, the contents of this blog are swirling around my mind, ha!
Have a great day my friends.

"When I was born into this world
The only things I knew were to love, laugh, and shine my light brightly.
Then as I grew, people told me to stop laughing.
“Take life seriously,” they said,
“If you want to get ahead in this world.”
So I stopped laughing.
People told me, “Be careful who you love
If you don’t want your heart broken.”
So I stopped loving.
They said, “Don’t shine your light so bright
As it draws too much attention onto you.”
So I stopped shining
And became small
And withered
And died
Only to learn upon death
That all that matters in life
Is to love, laugh, and shine our light brightly!"

The Nocebo effect is the opposite of the Placebo Effect. One of the best writers on the subject is Dr Bruce Lipton. Here's an example that he gives:
"Fabrizio Benedetti, a professor in the University of Turin Medical School, upended the once held belief that nocebo “truths” could only be relayed through the actual “professional.” In an experiment, he led a group of 100 students on a trip high into the Alps, to an altitude of 9800 feet. Days before the trip he privately told one student that the altitude’s thin air can cause migraine headaches. By the day of the trip, the student had provoked a “rumor” that made its way through more than a quarter of the group. Those who heard the “rumor” suffered migraine headaches and an assay of their saliva revealed an exaggerated response to the low oxygen conditions with an elevation of enzymes associated with altitude headaches. Dr. Benedetti’s results demonstrate that the nocebo effect can cause brain biochemistry changes via a network of “socially infected” individuals."

The power of the mind is phenomenal and Dr Bruce Lipton and his contemporary, Dr Joe Dispenza are some of my favourite writers on the subject of epigenetics and the placebo effect.
In the Unity tradition, there is a phrase, 'thoughts held in mind produce after their kind', and this holds true for both the placebo and the nocebo effects.
In my coaching practice, one of the things that I am trained to do is to 'hunt' for programs that we all carry round with us in our minds, those often unconscious beliefs that we have hardwired inside of us that dictate actions and responses. Often these are incredibly unhelpful in our walk on planet earth, so we deal with them together. We dissolve the hold that they have over you by releasing them and setting you free to be the best version of yourself.

I was rather taken aback to hear from my daughters about ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response) videos. The idea is that you can get low-grade euphoria if stimulated by auditory (or visual) stimulation.
So I thought, 'why not give it a go with my new book'?!
Which incidentally is in the printers right now, both in the UK and in the US. You can see the video here (with some thanks to Ariana Grande)...

I work intensively with people for a few weeks at a time using the world's most incredible technique - coaching!
Coaching works brilliantly for people who simply want to become a better version of themselves, but they don't know how to or where to start. People are often stuck in their journey through life, not knowing which decision branch to follow; they may be confused, have too many options or indeed, their mind may be blocking off potential and brilliant options due to self doubt or limiting beliefs.
But there is one little corner of coaching can often be the one in which people make the most breakthroughs in their lives. It's the one that involves that strangest of things, namely 'paradox'.
I had a social media debate with a fundamentalist recently. The debate continued day after day for about a week. Being an ex-fundamentalist myself, I could predict with near exact certainty what each of his next arguments would be. And it occurred to me that this gentleman was trapped in a two dimensional decision tree. It didn't appear to be making him happy, only rather confrontational.
You see, every decision he made had to be either one or the other; black or white, right or wrong. He was living in a world of forced duality, where the rules of the game meant winners and losers. And the winners were a very very small section of the population that obviously included him and his kinsmen. Into the losers pile he threw all Catholics (1.2 billion 'cultists'); all Anglicans (because they are attempting to reconcile with Catholics - another 84 million to add to the list); all liberal protestants, not to mention humanists, Buddhists, Muslims and so on and so on.
When coaching people, I do not tell them the answers to their issues. I use a variety of techniques such as powerful questions, which enable the person being coached to reveal the answer for themselves. The answer is always found within - you just need to know how to look for it!
In my experience, the most amazing answers and breakthroughs come when trying to reconcile polarities. This is the place where paradox exists. And truth resides in paradox. Not only truth but limitless possibility and brilliance.
Let me illustrate with an example from my own life. I am English and my wife Paraguayan. Where should we live? The fundamentalist might suggest that the answer is in one country or the other. They often see the world as an either/or universe. However, when faced with complexity, I like to remind myself that it is in fact a both/and universe.
So we solved the polarity by continuing to reside in England, but we bought a couple of acres of beautiful Paraguayan land with some wildlife-rich rainforest in it. Not only do we now have a stake in South America, but we can provide a space for the extended family to live in, and we have also been replanting the rainforest with endangered native hardwoods and fruiting palm trees for the birds.
This answer emerged to my wife and I as we opened to this paradoxical, both/and universe. We surrendered logical thinking and the outmoded, dualistic approach and let the answer emerge and flow through our consciousness. Even if we had discerned such a perfect answer using our logical faculties, the manifestation of the answer would then have been another difficult challenge to face.
But the source of the answer lies in the universe residing within us, or more accurately, we are the universe and the universe is us. So by surrendering the answer to the universe, the universe also manifests the answer back into the world of form. If that sounds a bit abstract, let me illustrate it for you:
Old paradigm - dualistic thinking:
1) Work out using logical thought and struggle what the best answer is; maybe you can list the possibilities and score/rank each one.
2) In this case, if the answer is to buy a house in Paraguay then you need to search for it using a lot of hard work and on-line estate agents.
New paradigm - surrender to the universe, accept paradox and reconcile polarities:
1) Surrender and wait for the universe to reveal the perfect answer. You will feel it with your heart and your body.
2) Once the answer emerges, surrender again in the knowledge that the perfect answer will manifest in the real world (the world of form).
In our case, as we received knowledge that the answer was to buy land in Paraguay, we allowed the same universe that gave us the answer, to also manifest that answer. So instead of having to look really hard for the land, the land looked for us. At around the same time as we were allowing the answer to emerge, an elderly 'campesino' who needed to sell some land sought out my brother-in-law, and the rest is history. It was the perfect sized land in the perfect location at a very reasonable price.
Understanding polarities, paradox and manifestation is a wonderful thing. Maybe there's an answer to a problem that you have just waiting for you out there. I know I can help you uncover this incredible path of discovery in your life - why not give me a call on 07714 419517? And don't forget , there's up to 40% off until the end of spring 2019!
