If you're starting to include sustainable practises in your day to day life, you might be looking to extend that to your holidays too. We have rounded up five ways to become more sustainable when you're planning a summer trip which we hope you'll find useful!
Choose your holiday wisely
In the age of information at our fingertips, it’s easier than ever to choose your holiday based on its eco-credentials. You can pick destinations and hotels based on sustainability practises whether its recycling, protecting local natural resources, cutting down on waste or zero tolerance on single-use plastic. It’s worth doing some research into destinations that meet the criteria you set, as sustainability doesn’t need to stop at home!
Say no to wipes
Whether at home or away, we always recommend to use our bamboo muslins; reusable cloths that remove all traces of our award-winning Miracle Cleanser. You too can reduce waste by incorporating these muslin cloths into your routine rather than disposable face wipes. This method of cleansing is better for the skin anyway and results in beautifully clean, non-sticky skin that glows from step one.
There are now, more than ever, many swimming pools choosing other models of maintenance, leaving aside chlorine and other chemical products that can be harmful to the environment and our health. Look no further than Thyme’s springwater, naturally filtered, chlorine-free pool - part of their Meadow Spa where you can also discover Aurelia Probiotic Skincare Facials and Rituals.
Go ECO with your deodorant
We’re sure by now you will have heard of our cult, bestselling Botanical Cream Deodorant, but you may not have seen that this wellbeing revelation now comes in a new larger size glass jar, perfect if you’re looking to go fully recyclable. This summer keep your underarms fresh and deodorise with this effective, eco-friendly alternative to common antiperspirants.
Road trip with a difference
Why not opt for a totally different type of holiday this year, ditching the car and choosing a cycling holiday instead. You’ll be reducing pollution from the car while taking care of your health and wellbeing too. Let’s face it, there's nothing quite like that well-earned glass of something cold and delicious at the end of a long day of exercise!
This season why not try something different to indulge in a little mindfulness? If you've followed us for a while you'll know that here at Aurelia mindfulness is something we really encourage. There's nothing quite like the feeling of relaxation, groundedness and peace you get from the practise. We've come up with some slightly different ways of appreciating your surroundings, becoming at one with nature and enjoying the finer things in life!
Few things are as gratifying as planting something and watching it grow. From a daffodil bulb to an apple tree, you’ll love the feeling of satisfaction it gives you. Whether you have a window box of acres of land, tending to plants and flowers is a wonderful way to relax and feel at one with nature.
If music be the food of love…
There’s nothing quite as extraordinary as seeing live music. The passion, talent and joy on show when musicians get together is something totally special. Whatever your taste, book a concert this summer, or better yet one of the many music festivals, and enjoy!
Enjoy the outdoors
In the park, garden or somewhere glorious on holiday, enjoy what nature has to offer and sit somewhere surrounded by greenery. Listen to the sounds of the world passing by and switch off for a moment or two. It’ll do you wonders...
Our bestselling natural deodorant, now available in a fresh citrus blend
If you love the award-winning Botanical Cream Deodorant and want to try something new, then our beautiful new citrus blend is for you! The Citrus Botanical Cream Deodorant is a natural, aluminium free, uniquely powerful natural deodorant that really works, in a brand new citrus blend.
Within the Citrus Deodorant, superfine powdered plant based botanicals including antimicrobial Arrowroot and pure Kaolin sit invisibly on the skin ready to absorb your natural perspiration throughout the day; retaining dryness, inhibiting bacteria and resulting in long-lasting freshness. Shea butter gently hydrates while the new essential oil blend of Mandarin, Sweet Orange, Grapefruit and Rosemary with their antibacterial properties, blend with distilled Lavender to lightly fragrance and deodorise.

At Aurelia we're very much looking forward to the Chelsea Flower Show, it's such a wonderful event that showcases the best of British horticulture and garden design ideas. The flower show has a place in so many people's hearts and we wanted to celebrate that by featuring some tips on how to garden in a sustainable way. We see sustainability being celebrated and increasing amount at Chelsea, and this year we're sure there are going to be even more gardens with sustainability and the environment as their theme. Read on to see how you can make some simple changes in your gardening practises to help you include more sustainability into your everyday life.
Here are a few tips to create your sustainable garden:
Grow your own organic food
From a window box of herbs to a full-blown vegetable patch, not only does this help to reduce the distance your food travels before it hits your plate, but it also helps to save water and fossil fuels.
Compost your waste
The less green garden waste and food scraps going into landfill the better, and you get to use the homemade compost in your very own sustainable garden.
Take responsibility for your gardening practices
Think very carefully before you reach for the insect spray or synthetic fertiliser! So many good, sustainable alternatives exist — use your compost to help feed your plants, and help to get worms and beneficial insects working for you.
Only use renewable resources in the garden
Check the source of gardening materials, and make sure you reuse, recycle and renew. Think about where your pavers, sleepers, flowerpots and mulch come from and how they’re manufactured.
This May we are throwing the focus on the sustainability practices that we at Aurelia are so proud of. As a natural brand, not only do we adhere to a strict ingredients promise to keep your skin balanced, nourished and beautiful, but we’re careful about the waste we produce, the sustainability of our sourcing and the impact that Aurelia has on the wider world.
Our Partnership with PhytoTrade Africa ensures a sustainable supply of beautiful African botanicals, ensuring fair trade for the communities, and especially women, that harvest botanical ingredients such as Baobab and Kigelia Africana.

Commitment to the Environment
At Aurelia Probiotic Skincare we are committed to reducing our reliance on single-use plastic for packaging purposes. We are already leading the way with recyclable glass bottles and jars, non shrink-wrapped boxes and no unnecessary plastic shives on jars. Also, our Miracle Cleanser is removed with a reusable bamboo muslin cloth rather than cotton pads or wipes.
We offer clean, natural beauty products for all skin types, ages and ethnicities. We never, ever test on animals and you’ll find the leaping bunny logo of Cruelty Free International on all of our packaging. There are no nasty surprises either, as we don’t retail in territories that require animal testing and a selection of our products are registered with the Vegan Society too.
If this unseasonably warm bank holiday taught us anything, it's that time off when the weather is perfect makes a huge amount of difference to the soul. We immediately want to enjoy the outdoors, see our friends and family, bulk buy the Aperol and head for parks and gardens. If returning to work felt like a bit of a shock this morning, then we've got some ideas for you to bring back the same feeling of contentment, calm and satisfaction to your daily life.
By indulging in moments of mindfulness you'll help to retain that feeling of wellness whether you're at work, at play or if the weather turns (which, let's face it, it probably will). Here are some slightly different ways of thinking about self care and what it can do for you...
Whether its bread, cakes, cookies, biscuits or even vegan brownies, baking something from scratch is as therapeutic as it gets. The satisfaction gained from the slow and gentle process of breadmaking is second to none, and what can be more delicious than freshly baked bread with butter or olive oil.
Play a board game
There's nothing quite like revisiting the charm of the classic board game. Whether its chess, draughts, backgammon or Monopoly, the tech-free alternative to a night in with your other half is proven to help build a closer bond between you. As long as one of you isn't a sore loser...
Write to someone
It's such a lovely feeling to open a personal letter, when you're not sure of the contents and certain it's not a bill, there's nothing nicer than opening a correspondence from a loved-one. Let's face it, it doesn't happen very often, so taking the time to sit down and write a letter instead of an overdue email or text message is a therapeutic and relaxing way to spend an afternoon. Plus you know you'll be bringing a smile to someone's face when you post it!
Do your bit for the environment
Focus on the foods, clothing and everyday items that you buy which come in one-use plastic packaging. By actively thinking about how much plastic you are consuming as an individual, you'll take steps to reduce your usage. You might also want to spend thirty minutes picking up litter in the area around you. Get the kids involved too as they'll love to see who can collect the most!
Learn a new word every day
It may seem like a very small thing, but learning one new interesting word a day is a wonderful way to focus the mind, and of course, increase your vocabulary. You'll inevitably find that the new words you learn will crop up in your daily life too - as is the way with these things!
Adjust your skincare routine
Incorporating mindfulness into your skincare routine might not sound obvious, but the act of taking time to focus on your beauty regime helps to make you feel more relaxed and grounded. All of the products within the Aurelia Probiotic Skincare range have not only been designed to treat, nourish and protect your skin, but to offer a luxurious experience with every use. Take the Cell Repair Night Oil for example - its sumptuous blend of BioOrganic botanicals and essential oils nurtures the skin, smells incredible and allows you to deeply massage your skin with every application.
Our multi award-winning Miracle Cleanser is a one-step cleansing solution for use every day both morning and evening. Many people focus a lot more attention on their serums or moisturisers but if the skin is not effectively cleansed, those products won’t be working as well as they could be to achieve a gorgeous glow.
After cleansing, skin should feel balanced, clean, hydrated and definitely not tight, dry or greasy. Steer clear of foaming sulphates or mineral oil and opt for a cream cleanser with a ‘free from’ ingredients policy. Cream cleansers like the Miracle Cleanser work for all skin types to remove all daily impurities and all make-up. The Miracle Cleanser is rich in vitamin E, omegas 3, 6 & 9 and essential fatty acids as well as balancing probiotics. This means that you are starting your routine with a nourishing product that calms inflammation and rinses completely clean without stripping the skin. Removing with a soft cloth like the Aurelia Probiotic Skincare Bamboo Muslin ensures you are gently exfoliating, another vital element for glowing, radiant and dewy skin.
It's that time of year again! When London is awash with the fashion-set, and we get to ogle at next season's offerings from some of the top designers in the world. It's always such a treat to see what styles will grace the catwalk but, for us, beauty is the star of the show. With top makeup artists creating some inspired looks, we picked some of our favourites from AW19.
We loved the perfectly dewy skin and subtly lined eyes as seen at Brandon Maxwell. Fluttery lashes keep the look feminine and simply groomed brows help to frame the face. The soft gloss on the lips pulls the look together for covetable, cool-girl style.
Tom Ford's models were given a warm smokey eye, now synonymous with the brand's decadent makeup range. Diffused browns and reds offset the models' autumnal attire and winter fabrics. The skin was kept simple, with a light, dewy, healthy sheen to keep the eyes the main focus.
Models at Simone Rocha wore a statement, deep plum lip, perfectly tamed and defined brows and fresh, bare skin. We love the drama this creates, with references drawn from the 1920s modernised to perfection.
Alexa Chung's models were given a natural look, with a subtle taupe enhancement to define the eye, with a soft pink-nude lip to keep the makeup light and fresh. We love how skin is the focus, with a natural dewiness perfectly complementing the pared back hair and relaxed style.
Models at Michael Kors were given a bold glamorous eye, highlighted with a flash of gold on the inner corners, with a deep brown elongating the natural eye shape. Skin was flawless, dewy and left quite bare, to add more drama to the eye makeup.
Emilia Wickstead's models could have been plucked from a renaissance painting. With flawless skin and little to no makeup, the look made the glorious clothes take centre stage. We love the way the model's hair colour works with the beautiful green of this dress too!
To celebrate London Fashion Week which starts this weekend, we are thrilled to launch our #RunwayReady campaign! Get The Look with our selection of makeup artists' favourites and enjoy a complimentary Brightening Botanical Essence as a gift from us when you purchase two products from The Look.
Start your routine with the perfect skin canvas and remove all impurities, makeup and grime with the cream-based Miracle Cleanser, a hot cloth balm that leaves skin supple, smooth and beautifully hydrated. It's the best way to start any skincare routine, and an even better way to remove all makeup at the end of the day!
Mist your skin generously with the Brightening Botanical Essence which works to deposit probiotics, peptides, rose quartz water and argan oil to the skin. With an uplifting blend of essential oils and flower waters it's the ideal way to energise your skin and mind before a big event. You can spritz over your finished look too as the non-sticky texture won't make your makeup flake.
Give skin the ultimate pre-makeup boost with The Probiotic Concentrate™, our supercharged probiotic serum which works to combat all major skin concerns. The rich yet lightweight texture absorbs beautifully, and creates the perfect base for all skin types. Powerful probiotics work to repair hidden damage, activate the skin's repair function and give skin and all-round glow.
Don't forget to treat your eyes with the cooling, brightening and hydrating Revitalise & Brighten Eye Dew. The cooling metal rollerball immediately de-puffs, awakens and invigorates the eye area for an instant lifted look, brighter eyes and an illuminated canvas for the eyes.
Complete your #RunwayReady look with the Cell Repair Night Oil, for the ultimate dewy complexion apply 2-3 drops as your moisturiser to deeply nourish and repair. It's beautiful as a natural, dewy highlighter too, lightly tapped on the high points of the face.
