Young Living // Savvy Minerals Bronzer and Glitter Powder Swatches

There is nothing I love more than adding a little bit of sparkle on the skin. I also love seeing the beauty I feel on the inside, reflected on the outside.

Mineral makeup is one way to give a little glow to your skin.

Many lines make mineral make-up, though one of my favorite lines is by Savvy Minerals of Young Living.

Young Living is a natural health company that operates as a buying club and it has many brands underneath it - Slique, Ningxia, Savvy Minerals, and Thieves.

It offers essential oils, natural health items, and beauty products all designed to support those looking to transition to a greener lifestyle.

As a woman interested in natural health, I’ve spent the past two years researching skin, makeup, and beauty products that are both eco-friendly and good for the skin. This is how I came to find Young Living and ultimately Savvy Minerals.

I’ve learned some surprising things on my quest, including how many of the organic beauty products actually contain ingredients that will cause disruption to the skin.

When the skin is irritated, it will react in four ways:

  • Rosacea

  • Acne

  • Eczema

  • Redness

Aside from cocoa butter and other oils that might clog pores, one ingredient that is commonly found in organic bronzers and blushes is Ethylhexyl Palmitate. Ethylhexyl Palmitate is a palm oil derivative, and it’s also a level four acne causing ingredient. You can look up how many pore-clogging or irritating ingredients are in your makeup products by visiting CosDNA.com and entering the ingredients. Savvy Minerals doesn't include any pore clogging ingredients, but many lines do, mostly as softeners and kinds of butter.

Savvy Minerals includes minimal ingredients and no pore clogging ingredients which is why I like it, plus it’s all natural.

One of my favorite products that they offer is their bronzers, Crowned All Over and Summer Loved, and below you will find two swatches:

Savvy Mineral Bronzer Swatches in Shade

Savvy Mineral Bronzer Swatches in Full Sun

Crowned All Over can be defined as a champagne beige shade and Summer Loved is more of the traditional warm cinnamon shade. I personally like the Crowned All Over for lighter colored skin tones and for all around the forehead, the upper cheekbones and down the neck areas that shape my face. I like the Summer Loved color for darker skin tones and also for the cut crease on my lower cheekbones.

The Savvy Minerals line is also mix and match line, meaning you can use the blushes for eyeshadows and the multitasking powders for eyebrows or eyeliner.

Besides the designated bronzers, there are also a few glitter nude powders in the line that make great face shapers and can be substituted for bronzers. There are eyeshadows and blushes that work well for shaping the face with nude powders, either as bronzers or highlighters.

Glitter Powers That Can Be Used As Bronzers

The Passionate Blush is like a rose brown, and it can be used as a bronzer with a warm tint. The Residual Eyeshadow is a nude shimmer eyeshadow that can be used as a highlighter or light bronzer, and the Wanderlust Eyeshadow is a white shimmer eyeshadow that can be used as a highlighter.

In addition to the bronzers, the Savvy Minerals makeup line offers a bunch of options for shaping and adding color to the face, all without irritating the skin and adding lots of light reflection.

The bronzers and the glitter powders above all include shimmer and this shimmer can add light to the skin in a very subtle and soft way, giving you sort of a glow.

If you’re interested in purchasing any of the Savvy Minerals Makeup:

You'll first want to sign-up to receive Young Living Products (here’s my link, you'll see my sponsor ID).

Then choose to become a member or buy retail.

If you decide to become a member, you get 24% off retail prices, you choose a starter kit, and then choose if you want to do a monthly order, where you can add the bronzers. You can change your monthly order at any time, and there are no contracts.

I suggest that if you want to purchase Savvy Minerals and the bronzers, trying out some of the essential oils this company makes, too, because they're really great for emotional support.

As spiritual and sensitive people, it’s important that we feel as beautiful on the outside as we feel on the inside and I think that finding beauty products and companies that make this a reality, matters. The Savvy Minerals Makeup line is one of my favorite mineral lines out there, and it is fully safe for sensitive skin. And it adds a bit of a glow to the face, especially these beautiful bronzers.

9 Essential Oils For Accessing Spiritual Guidance

Essential oils have been a part of my life for the past ten years. I've taken them with me cross-country, applied them to my skin, and kept them in my apothecary. But it wasn’t until recently until I started to use them to enhance my spiritual connection and access deeper spiritual guidance.

Actually, they started to come into my life for this purpose in a really interesting way.

When I was first starting this site, my goal was to fill a gap on the internet to talk about spiritual topics in an upbeat and positive way. Mostly I discussed connecting with ancestors, spirit guides, and other ethereal beings as a way to release the threatening aura around these entities.

At the time, television shows regarding negative spiritual encounters were popular. I wanted to counteract these messages with light, based on what I’d seen whilst growing up and in my own connections.

I wasn’t expecting the site you see here to turn into anything significant, but boy, has that changed.

This website has now evolved to discussing more topics than just spirits, branching into natural living and wellness. It now reaches over 100,000 visitors a month, with some months topping 500,000 visitors.

Due to this, I now get a lot of collaboration requests and product offers sent my way for things to be featured on the blog. I can’t respond to all the requests, but these are fun. I really like photographing products in an artsy way and trying out products that can help sensitive people.

The products I’ve received have not been random, though. They’ve generally followed themes, and I’ve found this interesting.

One year, I got spiritual subscription boxes. Another year, I got lots of books and oracle card decks. And starting last summer, I began to receive herbal supplements and essential oil products.

The first essential oil box I received was from a company called GotOilSupplies, which sells all types of mixing bottles and supplies to make essential oil products.

At the time, I didn’t know what to make of it.

I hadn’t really started incorporating essential oils on the blog yet. I also was currently dealing with my dog who was terminally ill, so I couldn’t spare the energy to do a post on it.

Fast forward six months later, I was using essential oil therapy almost daily with my dog's palliative care.

Then later, on myself, to help process the grief.

After my dog passed, I found myself with a lot of essential oils on my hands, and a lot of extra time, so I started experimenting.

I knew essential oils were effective for health and mood, but I didn’t realize just how effective they were until I needed them myself.

When they say the Universe gives you signs about the direction things will be going, I’ve found that, just by observing what is sent to me, this is true.

Signs about your direction do come from others, who often see things about you and your path that you’re blind to before you see them yourself.

It was about six months from the time I received my first essential oil care package to when I really started integrating them into my routine.

And it was during the passing of my dog, I started working with essential oils to receive spiritual guidance.

When making end-of-life care decisions, I wanted to make ultra-sure I was getting the clearest guidance possible. This involved me wanting to remove as many emotions from my system so I could to know I was making the correct choices.

Whenever we need or want spiritual guidance the most, it’s fair to say that sometimes, it's about a situation that's causing emotional duress.

Emotional chaos can affect your ability to focus, which in turn affects your ability to get a clear message.

So the first thing you want to do is get calm before accessing guidance.

The main three things you need for connecting spiritually are:

  • A clear emotional state

  • A relaxed heart

  • Freedom from nervous tension

Essential oils affect the limbic system, which is the neural system of the brain that contributes to mood, emotions, and memory.

Because of this, they can accomplish the above tasks of getting into a calm, emotionally clear and connected state really well.

Essential oils come in two forms; generally, singles or blends and I like to use both.

I found that the below oils helped most with the above when clearing emotions and mind chatter to tune in -

When I was reaching to clear my energy to write or work with clients, I primarily used singles, and these were the ones I reached for:

  • Rosemary - for clearing emotional energy and stimulating the mind.

  • Lavender - for relaxing the nervous system and opening up the heart chakra.

  • Clary Sage - for confidence and speaking and sharing the truth.

  • Ylang Ylang - soothing a nervous heart.

  • Lady Sclareol Blend (Young Living) - for relaxation mix especially meant for women.

Of the singles, I have experience using Plant Therapy and Young Living Brands and can recommend both.

When I was looking to receive inner guidance for myself, I primarily used blends, and these were my favorites:

  • Let It Go (Plant Therapy) - releases emotions and the need to have it go a certain way. This is actually a similar blend to Young Living’s Peace and Calming; the same essential oils though the ratios are different.

  • Surrender (Young Living) - releases tension about small hiccups and life changes.

  • Sensation (Young Living) - improves clairsentience and empathy connection between two beings, I like this one for connecting in nature.

  • Transformation (Young Living) - great for clearing your energy and receiving clairvoyant images. I always see blue when using this oil.

In this post, you might have noticed quite a few of the oils I recommend are by Young Living.

Young Living is not the only essential oil company out there, though, I happen to have the most experience with this company’s oils at current writing. This is because as my dog was passing away, I received many essential oils from representatives with Young Living to try out.

I always think it's helpful to accept, receive, and welcome in what's around you, so that's just what I did. If you use another brand, pay attention to what you reach for to connect, as your intuition will guide you.

When you’re reaching for spiritual guidance, if you feel emotional, unsteady, or nervous, essential oils can help to calm these feelings and mental chatter. This makes it easier to see, feel, and sense what your heart is telling you. For this reason, I've found essential oils to be incredibly helpful in removing barriers to connecting and accessing a deeper level of reverence.

They are just one tool of many out there, and when pairing them with your practice, you can really amplify the level of clarity you receive.

What To Wear To A FuneralSymbolic and Appropriate Attire

Funerals are a time to provide light to those when they need it most, to see people you genuinely know and like and to join together in love, but what do you wear?

From a practical perspective, some of the best things to carry with you at a funeral are things not connected to your clothes - they’re related to your health, beauty and wellness kit.

Tissues, sweat and tear resistant eye-makeup, if you wear it, and hand sanitizer can be some of your best friends at funerals. There are generally lots of bodily fluids flowing at these events and not many people thinking in their clearest of minds, so hand sanitizer can be one of the most important articles to carry on your person along with any Vitamin C and other immunity-boosting herbals, tinctures, or candies you have.

After that, then it’s time to think about your clothes.

As a general rule, upper tier business casual wear is the theme for most funerals. This is a strange category to navigate for everyone so below you will find a few additional pointers for having the best, most appropriate funeral outfit out there.

Begin with your footwear

Are you going along for the ride to the cemetery? Has it been raining?

Then consider starting with a base of sturdy footwear. Hiking boots in brown or black for men are appropriate here, and high heel boots or wedge sandals for women are generally considered appropriate. Timberland and Born both make excellent high-heeled boots that look very classy both out on the town and walking around gravestones. Do not wear stilettos in graveyards and make sure to choose something with grippy soles. Greenhouse, work, or outdoorsy boots are also all generally fine as long as they are brown, black or navy.

If you’re only going to the viewing, the ceremony is indoors, or that’s all your invited to, then forget everything I just said above and any formal black or brown shoe will do.

For ladies, flats or heels are fine, however, I prefer heels, mainly because some funerals are standing room only and you may want to see what’s going on.

Sneakers are generally not acceptable to funerals unless they’re the one thing you own and part of your personality - for example, if you only wear Converses and already know how to pair these with dress pants, then by all means - your passed friend or loved one will not be upset about this as the dead hardly care at all.

Next, select your outfit’s base color

Regardless of the temperature, time of year, or the person who died, mourning colors are indeed most appropriate colors for your base outfit.

Think browns, blacks, dark steely greys, and the types of colors you would see in nature on a dark, rainy November Day. Use these colors as your palate to work from.

Decide if you are going to go for a warm-tone mourning outfit or a cool-toned mourning outfit, then choose either-or, but not both. Blacks can have undertones that are either warm or cool, so it’s wise to keep this in mind when pairing everything together.

Once you have your footwear to work with, this may be your deciding factor.

For those wearing skirts or dresses: old-fashioned stockings are still considered most appropriate over bare legs, even in warm weather. Either a sparkly nude or semi-opaque black generally looks quite nice. If you don’t have it, it’s okay - but try to select a longer skirt or dress if you can.

For those wearing a dress shirt: a tie is generally considered appropriate for those who identify as male. A suit jacket is not always required, but if you have a jacket, you can’t go wrong. If you don't, worry not, as you generally won’t get shamed for not wearing one at a funeral, mostly because everyone is usually more worried about the dead person than they are about whether you have a fresh suit coat or not.

A formal overcoat or winter coat will also work in place of a suit coat, in the event of an emergency. You will most likely have to work with what you have here, as most funerals happen within a week of the death, so just do your best.

Next, choose your accent colors and add any symbolic pieces

These are your finishing touches.

Accent colors and pieces are where you can:

  • Impart any symbolism you wish to convey

  • Add any jewelry you want to embellish meaning

  • Say what you want to say without saying it

  • Add the favorite colors of the deceased

  • Match yourself to the ceremony for a unique flair

Be subtle here. I prefer earthly greens, deep reds, and mushroomy tortoise colors for my accent shades and pieces, but I also go by who died and how they died, and I also allow their favorite colors to have a factor in my outfit’s accents. If you are concerned about the funeral colors of blacks, browns, and greys drawing the color out of your face, choose your accent color to highlight your eyes or skin tone.

Choose one accent idea to work with - the symbolic color, the favorite colors of the deceased, or the colors of the ceremony to match your outfit. Decide this based on who died, where you’re going, the time of year, and what’s in your closet. This is the one spot where you can get a little tastefully creative.

Finally, for those going out in all-weather

It is not at all unusual to get warm during a funeral especially if you are sensitive to spirits, other people’s energy or if the space the viewing is in is quite small so prepare appropriately. For example, you may not want to wear a top that’s prone to show sweat to funerals.

Wearing clothes that are resistant to sweat, taking along an umbrella, extra face powder, or a heavier than usual cologne or deodorant, are never bad ideas. It tends to rain on many of the funeral days I’ve been to, for some reasons I may never understand, and perhaps it’s the same for you.

Overall, these are the major points to funeral attire - appropriate shoes, formal wear, mourning colors, a splash of symbolism, plus some immunity and all-weather support, and you’ll be fine.

Your choice of clothes and what you bring on your person can stimulate conversation, add talking points, help a friend in need, or even put a smile on someone’s face during a much needed time - so it makes sense to consider the outfit.

Besides, wearing your best and coming prepared to a funeral is not only good for practical reasons, as you’ll most likely be seeing old friends and colleagues there, but is a sign of respect to your ancestors, and to all of those who have come before.

Are you sensitive to others emotions?

If so, I like to add protection crystals under my clothes at funerals, and this blog goes over a few of my favorites to help absorb the grief so I’m so not drained after the event. I also suggest the Managing Your Gifts eBook if you tend to get overwhelmed at events like these or at weddings, which can also be spirit/emotion heavy events. If you’re in The Membership Center, I suggest trying one of the aura boosting exercises in the video archives to boost up your energy field prior to attending the event or even after, for recovery purposes.

Plus +CBD Oil by CV Sciences - Gummies, Softgels, Tincture and Balm

Hey guys!

I've talked about CBD (cannabidiol) a couple of times on the blog, most notably, I reviewed a few tinctures last year from NuLeaf and Ojai Energetics.

One was oil-soluble, the other was water-soluble.

I've received a lot of feedback on these articles and have since spent the past year testing out the benefits of cannabidiol (CBD). CBD is a phytochemical of hemp, and so far I've worked with it on dogs and also humans - meaning myself, friends, and family members.

The benefits of CBD are plentiful and can be found in the literature, so I opened up the website for discussing this compound. It's an herbal remedy that shows promise for folks who are sensitive to emotional conditions and inflammation, which contributes to pain.

I want the world to be free of suffering, as do most people, and herbal remedies definitely do help with this, especially at times when we need them most.

So today we're talking about the brand Plus +CBD Oil.

You may have seen it shelves in your local natural health food store, grocery store or herbal medicine shop. It's currently one of the most frequently placed wholesale brands of CBD on the market today. In fact, it was the first brand I saw on the shelves of our grocery stores here, and it's intrigued me ever since.

Plus +CBD Oil is by CV Sciences out of Las Vegas Nevada, and they have a large selection of products in different flavors and formulations.

Overall, though, they carry three main lines:

  • The Raw Line - their lowest-dosage line, it comes in brown-red packaging.

  • The Total Plant Complex Line - their mid-dosage line, it comes in green packaging.

  • The Gold Formula Line - which is their highest-potency line, it comes in yellow packaging, and we're talking about this line today.

The Gold Formula Line includes products in liquid form, soft gels, gummies, balms, and a concentrate. I'll be covering the liquid, gels, gummies, and balm in their Gold Line in this post. I've tried the concentrate, too, but I've run out of it so don't have it available to compare.

Also their products are non-GMO, gluten-free, and CO2 extracted, which is all helpful.

So let's begin -

Photo: Amanda Linette Meder

So first we have the tincture, which is not really a tincture, it’s CBD in liquid form that you take out of a dropper.

They call it their Hemp Drops.

This is a 60mL bottle that retails for around $145.95, which is about the going rate.

The bottle lists it at 9mg a serving, which is about 1/2 a dropper and at that rate you have 160 servings per bottle. The bottle itself has 1500mg of CBD, making it’s the highest amount of CBD of the products in the Gold Formula line at only $0.097/mg of CBD.

Unlike some other CBD dropper bottles on the market, Plus +CBD Oil’s blend isn’t pure hemp extract. It also includes olive oil and monk fruit, likely giving it that yellow color and the slightly sweet taste that it has. If you’re sensitive to herbal tastes, or you are giving it to someone in your care who is, this is a good blend for that. I tested the Unflavored version and found it to be very pleasant and sweet.

While there is no firm setting for the dosage of CBD, some recommendations say to start at 1-3mg and work your way up. I’ve found that anywhere between 20-30mg is nice for most people, depending on weight, some require more, some less. I’ve also seen research studies that dose at 1500mg a day with no ill effects, though for the budget-friendly, this is a rather extreme place to begin. Thankfully all of Plus +CBD Oil products start their dosages out on the lower end, giving you time to find the right dosage for you, without going overboard on your budget.

Photo: Amanda Linette Meder

Next, we have the Hemp Softgels.

I liked these and found they were quite relaxing.

Each gel is 15mg per each, giving the 30 Softgels a total dosage for the bottle of 450mg of CBD. I would recommend these if you have to travel and would like to bring some CBD with you but don't want to have to worry about spillage or breakage from a dropper bottle, as it's in a plastic container and in Softgel format.

I also think these would be nice to have if you work somewhere and you want to take some CBD during the day, but don't want to have to explain to your coworkers about the dropper bottle. It's more discreet, and if you already have a vitamin regimen, these could fit right in to a pill scheduler.

The gels run $49.95 for a bottle of 30, making each gel $1.67 and $0.11/mg of CBD.

Photo: Amanda Linette Meder

A little cheaper than the gels per each, we have the Hemp Gummies.

Pictured are the Cherry Mango flavor, which if you were hoping they wouldn’t taste like hemp, they still do, just with a slightly fruity taste as well.

They reminded me of the old school candy, Swedish Fish. These would be something I’d recommend to someone who enjoys taking their vitamins in gummy format - which I do.

Overall, I thought they were fun to eat and had an herbal overtone.

They contain 5mg of CBD in each gummy, giving 150mg of CBD per bottle. This gives them a smaller dosage than the Softgels, making them slightly more cost effective than the gels at $1.34 a gummy in the smaller size bottle, but it also gives them the second highest per mg investment of $0.26/mg of CBD.

There’s no artificial flavoring in these, which may lead to their herbal taste, and you can buy them in 30 or 60 gummy sizes, for either $39.95 or $64.95.

Photo: Amanda Linette Meder

Finally, we have the balm! This is the Extra Strength Hemp Balm. CV Sciences does also sell a balm in their Raw Formula line which is 50mg of hemp CBD per jar.

This jar is from their Gold Formula Line, and it includes 100mg of CBD.

I found it to have the same consistency as one of those herbal, muscle healing rubs. Not quite a lotion, not quite a wax, more like a greasy balm that would be great to rub into your cuticles or on the heels of your feet, elbows or knees, which I did.

A little goes a long way with this, and because it’s a balm, you really don’t know how much CBD you get per serving with this, so I’d say this is more of the add-on item, though possibly my favorite of the entire line. It includes green tea extract, willow bark extract, and peppermint oil, giving it a pleasant minty smell. I kept smelling my hands after using it, and as a bonus - it contains no-pore clogging ingredients.

It runs $51.95 for the jar, and with 100mg CBD we are looking at $0.51/mg of CBD.

So at the top, we started with the Hemp Drops, which has the highest amount of hemp CBD at the lowest cost per milligram. Then moved down to the Hemp Balm, which has the lowest amount of hemp CBD at the highest cost per milligram. Though the Hemp Drops are the highest dollar value of CV Sciences offerings in their Gold Formula Line, you actually get the most bang for your buck with this item, making the Softgels the next best value after that.

If cost-effectiveness matters most to you when selecting a CBD product from CV Sciences, I found that in this line, Softgels and the Drops were the best investment per milligram (you get the most CBD for your money), but that the gummies and the balm were the most enjoyable to use, though they had the least amount of actual CBD per dollar value.

Overall, the entire Gold Formula Line from Plus +CBD Oil is tasty, includes a lot of options for your dosage style and is excellent for those looking at starting their CBD regime at lower dosages, including pets. It all just depends on what style you want to take it in and what investment you’re interested in making. I’ve tried a few of their products and found that depending on the circumstance, there is a different product for each, making it a very well rounded line.

How To Tell If A Product Is Going To Irritate Your Skin

Skin is one of the largest organs on the body, and because of this, it’s essential to pay attention to what we put on it.

When you don't put the right products on your skin, it can cause itching, burning, acne or worse.

Whether you’re a sensitive person, have allergies, or simply want to take care of your skin, finding products that are safe for the skin can be a challenge.

Even with the best intentions, some ingredients in our soaps, skincare, makeup, and laundry products can irritate the skin and cause, among other things:

  • Acne

  • Rosacea

  • Redness

  • Eczema

If you have ever experienced one of the above big four, you’ll know it’s not fun. And while some of the causes of these skin conditions can be related to diet, stress, toxin load on the body, or pathogens, we can rule out topical products pretty quickly.

So today we're going to discuss how to find out if a product is causing irritation on your skin. If it is, we'll also discuss possible replacement items it so you can live more comfortably in the skin you're in.

Here are the steps to see if any of the external products we’re using on our hair, body or skin is the cause of your suffering.

Step 1. To find out if a product is irritating your skin, first locate the ingredients on the label.

If you can’t find the ingredients, you may want to switch to a product where the ingredients are available (I’ll list some of my favorite below).

Once you have the ingredients -

Step 2. Head Over to CosDna.com and enter the ingredients.

Go to the “Analyze Cosmetics” section of the site, clicking on the button “Analysis” when you’re complete.

Step 3. Review the results.

Here's an example:

For this example, I’m using one of my favorite skincare serums, Mad Hippie Vitamin C Serum (available on Amazon).

The results will show how likely it is each ingredient in a product will cause:

  • Acne

  • Irritation

  • Safety issues

Under Acne and Irritant - Anything less than “2” considered safe and anything between a 3-5 is a probable cause of a breakout or redness.

Under Safety - Anything above a 4-5 under Safety would not be recommended and has possible health risks.

In the example above, you’ll see all the ingredients coming up as a 1 or a 2, this is good. It means this serum is likely not going to cause acne or irritation, and it's safe for your skin. Any 7’s, 9’s or high value numbers (the ranking goes up to 9) and you may consider replacing this item with something less irritating - your skin will thank you.

Step 4. Repeat this process for your entire skincare line, bath and body products, and household care items.

Then remove and replace any products that contain irritating ingredients - above a level “2” under Acne or Irritant and above a level “4-5” under Safety.

When you enter your products into the tester above, and you may find many items that contain ingredients that show up as red or rank higher than a 4. This was true for me so it may be true for you too.

Take time switching these items out as your budget allows.

Personally, when I went through this process of eliminating irritating products, basically every item contained an irritant, safety concern, or acne-causing ingredient.

It took me about six months to detox them all.

But the payoff was huge. Afterward, I noticed I completely eliminated my headaches, stopped having breakouts, and the burning sensations in my mouth, hands, and body after washing stopped altogether.

We are the canaries in the coal mine, so when we start to take control of the products we consume and stop putting up with irritation, over time, the entire market changes.

Until that happens, non-irritating products can be needles in a haystack, so I've compiled a list of the ones that have worked for me thus far.

If you’re looking for replacement products, here is a list of a few of the products that I've used which haven’t caused any irritation -

Non-Irritating Soaps and SkincareSkincare

Face Wash - Vanicream Face Wash

Face Moisturizer - First Aid Beauty Intensive Repair Serum

Treatment Serum - Mad Hippie Vitamin C Serum

Sunscreen - MD Solar Sciences Sunscreen

This is just a short list of the products I’ve found that are gentle on the skin and don’t cause any irritation while you use them. Anything with an “*” indicates it’s available as part of a buying club, like an multi-level marketing program (MLM), such as Young Living. I’m a fan of MLMs of all forms and am currently a member of Young Living mostly for their essential oils. All other products are available on Amazon, or through the product website I’ve linked above.

My general rules are that if the products contain artificial fragrances, intense parabens, or endocrine disruptors I leave them out of my routine.

If ingredients aren’t released, I also tend toward finding products where the ingredients are available, that way you have access to allergen information. Some natural ingredients can cause acne or irritation in some folks, where some artificial ingredients may be easier on the skin. So as you move through the process of identifying what could cause irritation, be prepared to be surprised.

As you replace any products that contain irritants or safety issues, you may find that:

  • Your skin is less reactive

  • Any burning sensations or breakouts subside

  • You feel more comfortable in your own skin

When I reduced irritating skin care products, again - anything over a "2" rating in Acne and Irritant and anything above a "4-5" rating in Safety, I stopped all my breakouts and ended having migraines altogether.

Even though it may take some work, you will be thanking yourself for going through this process of weeding out the irritating products from your routine.

You deserve to be comfortable in the skin you’re in and have products that don’t cause further irritation to the skin biome. Use this above tool to your advantage, switch out products as you are able to, and feel more comfortable in the body you're in.

Your mind, spirit, and cells will thank you -

The Faeries Oracle // Thoughts and Inspirations // by Brian Froud and Jessica Macbeth

The Faeries Oracle by Brian Froud and Jessica Macbeth is one of the most colorful, animated and intricately designed decks on the market today.

On top of this, it accurately portrays the world of the Faeries which is a positive, negative, neutral, multifaceted world that mirrors nature and the ups and downs of natural life.

Many decks are serious, somber, and even sad, and while this deck includes those aspects of life, thanks to the book that comes with the pack, this set of cards make you laugh. Descriptions of the cards in the book provide a paradoxical look at any situation you may be facing, making perhaps my favorite part of this deck the book itself.

This deck includes five different groups of guidance cards (pictured below):

  • The Singers of the Realms

  • The Sidhe

  • Faery Guides and Guardians

  • The Help-Line Troupe

  • The Faery Challengers

Also, this deck features these components:

  • A 66-card set

  • A 205-page book

  • A protective box for the set

See the photos of this deck and the different spirit groups within it here:

The Singers of the Realms

The Sidhe

Faery Guides and Guardians

The Help-Line Troupe

The Faery Challengers

In addition to having beautiful art and a philosophical book that can stand alone, understanding the positive, negative or neutral aspects of a situation is one of the things this deck excels in.

How I would use this deck:

I've found that if you’re going through a complicated series of challenges in life, this deck works when all other oracles and tarot decks give you reversals. So I would suggest trying this deck before giving up on readings for the day, or when working with a client who has a difficult time seeing the paradox in a situation. Sometimes seeing all sides of a coin is the best way out of a bind, and I think this deck and the insight it provides offers many ways out of any predicament.

To purchase The Faeries Oracle, visit Amazon.com, where it’s currently available for an excellent price. The illustrator of this deck, also designed a movie, called The Dark Crystal, which is like a Muppets go on a metaphysical adventure movie, and this also gives you a laugh.

To watch The Dark Crystal, you can also find it on Amazon Prime, where at current writing it is included in prime membership.

Young Living: How To Sign-Up

Young Living is a health and wellness company that sells essential oils, supplements, natural health, cleaning products, and beauty products.

The company started in 1993 in essential oils, but they've expanded from there. The oils are eco-friendly, have beautiful bottles, and great blends for energy, emotional support, and mood.

I became familiar with them in 2007 through a Yoga Instructor I was working with at the time, and I purchased the oils from her, and thus started my aromatherapy journey.

Then in 2017, I started purchasing from Young Living as a Member with a Basic Starter Kit and an order of Ningxia.

I was detoxifying my own life to feel better, and it was finally time to dive in.

After the initial order, I hung out on the sidelines, learned about the company, just observed, and got to know the company.

Then, I got into their natural beauty line, Savvy Minerals, which is safe for sensitive skin and wondered what I would do from there.

Photo: Amanda Linette Meder

Soon, things ramped up.

Our dog's health started failing, and I became much more serious about the natural and healing benefits of essential oils. We used Young Living oil blends all through her terminal care. After she crossed over the rainbow bridge, I started using them during the grieving process.

I used the essential oils whenever I needed a boost, and my mood would immediately lift.

This is when I really got excited about how beneficial the products Young Living offers are.

I now enjoy the oils for emotional support, spiritual connection, positive mood, and when I meditate and many of the other things they offer.

Photo: Amanda Linette Meder

While Young Living isn't the only essential oil and natural health company out there, I’ve really enjoyed the friendliness of their staff, of their independent representatives, and becoming a member of their wholesale program. Members of my website use the products, my family uses the products, and the tools they offer have become a part of my life.

My reason for using Young Living products doesn't have to be your reason. You may have other goals, such as clean beauty, needing eco-friendly cleaning products, or natural health supplements.

No matter the reason, here's how to -

how to Sign Up for Young Living:

To purchase Young Living Products, which include the essential oils and their other lines, you can do it two ways -

You can purchase as a retail customer or by becoming a member and getting 24% off.

If you want to purchase as a retail customer, simply go to this link and check the box for “retail customer” then check-out through the product catalog.

Their wholesale program is where you become a member of the company and get 24% off retail prices. This is what I recommend to people who want to purchase essential oils, or any other type of product from Young Living, such as their Savvy Minerals line.

If you choose to become a member with Young Living:

  • There’s no contract

  • 24% off your purchase

  • A starter kit of your choice to get you going

  • A monthly ordering program with 10% points back towards future orders to start with it increasing to 25% the longer you are on the program.

Here's how you do it:

Step 1. Click Here To Become A Member

Once on the sign-up page, you select “Member” then “Continue” - this link will have you automatically sign-up with me. After you do, I send you a bit more information about getting started. Signing up for Young Living is different than signing up for the Membership Program on my site, as this is purely a natural health company you can purchase products from, including essential oils, make-up, and cleaning products, though I usually promote the make-up and the oils.

Step 2. Select a Starter Kit.

You can select any kit you desire from essential oils to make-up to natural health juices. You choose a starter kit once and then after that, you can order whatever you want month-to-month. Kits range from $45-265.00. I started with the Basic Kit and an order of Ningxia, though most people select the Premium Starter Kit, which includes:

  • A diffuser of your choice

Premium Essential Oils Collection;

  • Lavender 5-ml

  • Peppermint Vitality™ 5-ml

  • Lemon Vitality™ 5-ml

  • Valor® 5-ml

  • Peace & Calming® 5-ml

  • Frankincense 5-ml

  • Thieves® Vitality™ 5-ml

  • Citrus Fresh™ Vitality 5-ml

  • Raven™ 5-ml

  • DiGize™ Vitality™ 5-ml

  • PanAway® 5-ml

  • Stress Away™ 5-ml (my personal favorite)

2 AromaGlide™ Roller Fitments

Thieves® Waterless Hand Purifier, 1 oz. (great for the car and purses)

Thieves® Spray, 1 oz.

2 NingXia Red® 2-oz. samples

“Essential Oils at a Glance” Brochure

Product Guide

Essential Oil Display Tray

Young Living Lifestyle Booklet

Essential Oils Magazine

Essential Edge News

Member Resources

Step 3. After you choose a starter kit, here’s where you decide if you want to add anything else to your initial order.

You can also decide, if you want, to sign-up for Essential Rewards. This is a rewards program on your order that gets you 10% back on your order for the first three months you are on the program and increases the longer you're on the program. You can always sign-up for this later.

Because I was observing at first, I signed up for Essential Rewards about 9-months into Young Living, and I haven't looked back since. I wish I signed up sooner. Also if you happen to choose a starter kit that is over $50USD, then the balance can be applied to your first essential rewards order, if you select that option.

Step 4. Complete Your Membership Registration.

Then, you go to shipping and payment, and you’re in as a member. You’ll get your welcome kit in a few days to a week, and after that, you can try out new products every month.

There are no penalties for not ordering every month, and you will remain a member with wholesale prices for up to a whole year without ordering. So if you try it, you have time to decide if you like it.

Step 5. Receive Your Starter Kit.

Use the products in your kit and allow yourself time to enjoy them.

I then suggest then ordering more as your intuition calls you too.

Trying out different blends, supplements and items as life guides you. For most people, they join, they start integrating the products into their lives, they use the oils and the other lines, and then life happens. They honestly enjoy and find a use for the healing and emotional health benefits of many of the items Young Living offers.

For example, when I started, I really liked Young Living's makeup line, Savvy Minerals, then really found a use for some of their therapeutic essential oil blends during my dog’s terminal care.

After that I began using the essential oils mainly as a healing tool for recovering from my own grief and past traumas, to promote positive mood, improved sleep, spiritual connection and meditation.

I now think the oils are excellent tools for emotional management, empath management, promoting healthy sleep, and overcoming grief and trauma. I also enjoy their makeup line, Savvy Minerals, as it’s safe for sensitive skin, and their soaps.

All these reasons are why I’ve made the option available on my website to sign-up!

After you join, I’ll reach out with more information to get you started.

With Gratitude,

Amanda Linette Meder

The Best Boar Bristle Hair Brushes // Thoughts On Morrocco Method Brushes

One of my favorite things to do in the evenings when I’m winding down is to brush out my hair.

This became part of my bedtime routine a couple of years ago when I discovered that frequent hair brushing stimulates the scalp and encourages hair growth. A couple of years ago, I went on a journey where I was growing my hair out from colored hair to my natural hair.

I’ve colored my hair since I was thirteen years old, and thoroughly enjoyed it the entire time; however, one day a few winters ago, I got the wild idea in my heart that I wanted to rediscover my natural hair color, and so I set out on that adventure to figure it out.

At the time my hair was platinum blonde, and the whole process of growing out my platinum blonde hair to my natural hair took a little over two years.

During that process, I had a lot of time to spare, so I experimented with many different hair care techniques - oiling my hair, mud masking my hair, cutting my own hair, hennaing my hair, ways to curl my hair, and perhaps most importantly, different ways and different tools to brush my hair with.

This is how I discovered the Morrocco Method.

I first read about the brand on Wellness Mama, and ever since then, I’ve tried just about all of their products and taken many of their recommendations. It's worked because now on the street, people will shout out to me that they love my hair.

I love all their products; every shampoo, the leave-in conditioning mists, the detoxing products and perhaps my favorite of all: their brushes.

I just started an affiliate relationship with them and could not be more excited, because I genuinely already had many of the products they carried and recommended many of their tools to others.

While Morrocco Method sells many things, one of the items I love the most are their brushes. These are boar bristle brushes designed to evenly distribute the oils on your scalp to the roots of your hair, meaning that over time, you need fewer hair products, particularly of the conditioning type and not only that, I’ve found that these brushes actually feel good to use.

It's safe the say the brushes are an experience because they do actually stimulate the scalp as you use them.

Because of the length of the bristles, they massage the scalp, and because of the technique of hair brushing the brand encourages, very similar to the Rapunzel method of 100 strokes a day, using Morrocco Method’s hair brushes is a bit of a therapeutic experience.

Overall, the brand sells two main types of brushes, in two sizes -

Here’s a photo of the two different sizes, side by side:

These are the Pure Boar Bristle Brushes in full and travel size.

I keep the full size in my bathroom (on the left) and the smaller travel size (on the right) in my makeup case.

The Pure Boar Bristle brushes create more shine and distribute the oils of the scalp throughout the hair more efficiently.

The Mixed Nylon - Boar Bristle brush (pictured below) gets through tangles more efficiently and also get through to the scalp, giving you a little bit more of a head massage as you brush, and they tend to be designed for thicker hair. I have a mixed type for my partner and have tried it for myself too and love it.

Here’s a photo of the two different types side by side:

In general, the two brush types, Pure Boar and Boar Bristle Nylon Mixed are designed for two different hair types. One is more for fine hair; the other is more for thick hair.

Because I have fine hair but a lot of it, I have tried both the pure boar bristle brushes and the mixed nylon brushes, and I like them both, it really just depends which you are looking for.

If you have…

  • Full, thick, or coarse hair and like a scalp massage, go with the Mixed Nylon Boar Bristle Brush. I’ve found the Mixed Nylon brush reaches the scalp more easily.

  • Thin hair, want shine or desire more body, go with the Pure Boar Bristle Brush.

  • If you are on a budget and need to get the small one, it works just fine for longer hair, and will only take a few more strokes to cover your whole scalp, which isn't necessarily a bad thing because the brushes themselves are like a scalp massage to use.

And if you want to enjoy your hair brushing experience, find it a relaxing part of your day, or you're looking to beautify your hair to its maximum potential, I'd give these brushes a try.

The Shaman’s Guide To Power Animalsnew Release March 2019

Power Animals are creatures that inspire us to be our best selves, awakening within ourselves something which was once lost and inspiring us to see the world differently.

They can be domestic animals, wild animals, and even mystical animals.

Moving throughout the physical world, we encounter creatures of all shapes and sizes that interact and react to our daily presence as we observe them. By taking in these observations and seeing animals as the bearers of messengers, we can begin to communicate with the world around us in an effortless and new way.

The idea behind spirit animal communication is that animals are in touch with their Inner Being nearly all the time, not really losing touch with that connection to source. With our proximity to them, we can learn the messages of the Inner Beings from those creatures which can reawaken us to receive messages from our own Inner Beings.

It is like being around someone who is inspired by the joy of Source all the time, it awakens something in us. This is what it is like to be inspired by a Power Animal.

This new release covers topics such as:

  • How to find and identify your power animal

  • How to call in your power animal

  • Which power animals are associated with individual crystals

  • And which among them are endangered

Many of us intrinsically know and embody the characteristics of the Power Animals around us, and this book reawakens us to this knowledge we all keep. Whether they are domestic, mystical, or wild, we can begin to awaken ourselves even more.

In this new release on Power Animals, author Lori Morrison takes us through the channeled messages of over 200 spirit animals including:

  • Insects

  • Mystical Animals

  • Domestic Creatures

  • Wild Birds, Fish, and Reptiles

  • Mammals

For each of these creature groups she also includes callouts for each that mention:

  • Special Powers of the Animal

  • Messages The Animal Brings

  • Keywords that define the group

  • Messages from the species

  • Ecological facts and lore

  • Illustrations

Here is an example page from within the book that shows these call outs:

This is an excellent resource guide for those looking for information on power animals and for those who are looking for an updated version of one of the last major power animal books printed in the early 1990s.

If you are a Ted Andrews fan, know this book is organized much differently than his famous Animal Speak (click here to buy). The Shaman's Guide To Power Animals includes a more comprehensive table of contents, more information callouts on each page making specific pieces of data about each creature easier to find, and it includes messages from the animals on the tops of each page, much like you would find in an oracle deck. Each page is more or less designed as a fact sheet for the animal, where in Animal Speak, the guidebook is more or less designed in continuous paragraph format.

When you study power animals, I feel it’s important to have more than one reference guide from more than one author, because you will get different takes by cross-comparing and the information in each will often inspire and bounce off of the insight of the other, meaning guidebooks often work synergistically together. And if this is your first power animal guidebook, you won't be disappointed. It includes references to over 200 insects, birds, and mammals.

To purchase a copy of this book, visit The Shaman’s Guide to Power Animals on Amazon.com.

Surely Serenity Oracle Deck // Intuitive Counsel // Thoughts + Inspiration

Hailing from Long Island New York, The Surely Serenity Intuitive Counsel Deck was launched in Spring 2019 as a peaceful, minimalist deck that features:

  • A 40-card system

  • A magnetized card case

  • Silver-gilded edges

  • Nature inspired designs

  • Minimalist word and image prints

The main four image sets of this deck are watercolor florals, shells, and crystals. The backs of the cards are sea-shell, oceanic inspired. The pack itself shuffles in an incredibly crisp way, and the cards hold very nicely in your hands. This deck feels beachy inspired.

As the creator states, the deck itself is designed to invite us to connect with our intuitive self, awaken our creative spirit, and engage our energy body. This deck is designed to help you connect with your intuitive wisdom, and because of this, it does not include a booklet - as the author states, you are meant to use your intuition in reading the cards.

This makes it a higher-self communication deck, which is unique because most of the oracle decks out there are designed to connect with a particular group of spirits outside of the self, and this is not that. It’s more of a personal wisdom deck.

Check out a few images of the cards, their edges and the backs:

In experimenting with these cards, I’ve used them in three-card pulls for the week and as a single inspiration card pull alongside another three-card pull, like as a highlight card, and enjoyed them for both techniques.

I like this deck because it has great synergy.

It's calm, peaceful energy and it doesn’t stress you out to go through the cards, regardless of which card you pull. There is no tower card, no "it's all gonna fall apart on you" card, or anything like that. It reads with the energy of every day is going to be one of wisdom and peace. Aesthetically, the silver-gilded edges of the cards make this deck especially unique because most oracle cards do not have gilded edges and of those that do, the edges are golden, not silver. So very cool!

Overall, the colors of the cards, the beachy images, the crisp closure of the box, the shuffle of the cards, and how all the elements play together make this deck an elegant piece for any collection.
