With a history of over 100 years, the polo shirt has become one of the most popular choices for office wear due to its minimalistic yet comfortable and sleek fit. And let’s face it: as soon as you put a polo shirt on, it makes you look like a real professional. Small companies or big corporates, they all seem to have a penchant for this design.

Why do businesses prefer personalised polo shirts?

We’ve seen it too: we have helped a lot of clients from schools or universities, sports teams to organisations or other businesses, and they all had in common one thing: branded polo shirts. Whether it was printed polo shirts or embroidered ones that a business has chosen, the sleek design that a polo shirt carries seems to represent the piece that unifies a brand vision under a common aesthetic. If you are a business owner, you have probably considered that polo shirts could be a nice touch to the team you are managing.

An empowering symbol for your team

Branded Polo shirts have the power to make a team feel like they are part of something great and unique. We, humans, thrive on feeling like we are part of a group which we identify with. Knowing that we contribute to building or achieving something great while being in synergy with other team members, leads to an increase in the overall teams’ performance. A branded polo shirt is not only an item that a team shares with each other but it takes the role of a symbol of success.

Embroidered or Digital?

When it comes to the logo, personal preference comes into play. You could be a fan of either embroidered designs or the digitally printed ones. Whichever method you prefer, you will never go wrong with a classic fit.

What about my Logo?

There isn’t a right or wrong answer for which type of design you should print. Over the years, we have seen clients go for all sorts of styles. A simple logo of the business is, as you might have guessed, one of the most popular choices for personalised polo shirts. But you’re not limited to this: try your business name if you want to be more minimalistic and effective, a strap-line to get people curious about your brand, or the name of your marketing name along with a hashtag to drive people to your brand.

The Verdict.

Polo shirts are for those who prefer the classic, smart and timeless fit. Whether they are for your team members at your workplace, your school pupils or teachers, the members of your society or university or your sports team, you should definitely consider one. Have a look at our t-shirt printing options to get an idea.

Work Branded T-shirts

While polo shirts stand the test of time and still have a great impact today, T-shirts are more casual and include more styles. While polo shirts are recommended to be worn during formal events or formal situations, T-shirts are still a popular choice for many of the business owners, club members or other organisations. So why is that? Answer: being modern. We are all different and have our own preferences. This means that some of us prefer classic fits while others prefer modern ones. Your business is going to influence this as well:  if you are going for a laid back approach, or you don’t necessarily need your team members to look overly formal, then you might go for branded t-shirts.

You should go for Printed T-shirts if:
  • Your team members are going to attend a sales or promotional event; Think who your audience is again and figure out which style would be best suitable for the event. If it’s strictly a business event, you might want to reconsider a branded polo shirt.
  • A large group event might call for printed T-shirts. If it’s a charity or an outdoor marketing event, t-shirts seem more suitable than polo shirts.

If your business is looking for a reliable printed t-shirt provider, you’ve got your back. You can find more information about all the different techniques by visiting our t-shirt printing page.

So you have decided that you want to create a couple of t-shirts: perhaps you are an up and coming influencer and need some quality t-shirts for your following, or you want to organise a giveaway and need branded t-shirts…  The point is you only need a limited amount of quality merchandise for your brand. Direct-to-garment printing could be the answer.

Regardless of your purpose, we decided to write a guide for those of you who are interested in the different types of printing techniques for t-shirts. We have previously published another guide on the screen printing t-shirt technique so before heading there (if you haven’t read it already), read this guide to DTG printing.

How Does a Direct to Garment Printer Work After All

In this printing process, we utilise a direct to garment printer that works in the same way a regular office printer does. It’s just as precise as one, so that means you are able to print highly detailed and complex designs (yes, photographs as well).  This special printer directly injects the ink into the garment and it utilises water-based inks which make it easier for the fabric of the t-shirt to absorb them. Like a regular one, a direct to garment printer ensures that your final design is printed with rich details.  On the other hand, the screen printing technique wouldn’t be able to give you as much freedom as the DTG printing technique. So in short: a smart printer makes it possible for you to print really intricate images or designs that are composed of unique gradients and meticulous details. The printed design is also soft to the touch and this is because the direct to garment printer prints ‘’inside’’ the fabric not ‘’onto’’ it.

How Does the DTG Printing Process Start?

Making it ready: The area that is going to have your design on it is firstly sprayed with a special solution in order to allow the fabric to be ready for the settlement of the ink. Then, it is let to dry for a while.

Preparing the design: To make it ‘’printable’’, professionals have to turn it into the right format that will allow them to print the design. It is always recommended that the artworks should be saved in a resolution of 300 DPI.

Stretch time: The professionals then make sure that any crease will go away, which allows the design to be perfectly printed into the fabric. One mistake and everything could be compromised.

Action: the final step is to let the DTG machine do its job and print the design. This usually takes more time as opposed to other techniques.

Is DTG Printing Right for Me?

DTG printing is a versatile technique that works well with a wide range of garments. It is also suitable for both white and coloured fabrics and provides realistic details which make the overall quality of the printed design quite intriguing. This technique is widely preferred whenever someone wants to have a highly detailed design printed. However, as the ink is water-based, you can expect the design to fade a little bit after a couple of washes. If you’re looking for a printed design that is going to last, then screen printing technique might be your cup of tea.

If you are looking to print only a couple of t-shirts (up to 20) then DTG printing is your best solution. If you require larger batches we recommend screen printing technique, which is more time and money effective.

If you’re looking to start your own clothing brand, produce a number of T-shirts for your fan base, promote your brand or you’re simply interested in the various printing techniques for garments, then this article is a good start to get an understanding of one of the most popular clothing printing techniques: screen printing.

What is Screen Printing?

The technique of screen printing t-shirts is often called a form of art due to its meticulous nature. The reason lies in the fact that each colour has to be individually applied to the printing surface. This technique involves using a stencil (or ‘’screen” as most of the industry specialists call it) that applies one single colour at a time. If the design uses more colours, then more stencils will be created to apply the other colours.

Benefits of Using the Process of Screen Print for T-shirts:
  • Create vibrant designs for your t-shirts;
  • Long-term lifespan and quality are ensured;
  • Authentic and sleek finish;
  • Scalability – if your batch is larger, the price you pay is smaller;
  • Large volumes of t-shirts are printed in only a matter of time;
  • No margin of error when it comes to matching your print colour.

Should I Use Screen Printing Services for my T-shirts?

Over the years, screen printing t-shirts have been ideal for those who wanted to produce large quantities of t-shirts. As you could tell already, given its detailed approach, screen printing is slightly more costly as compared to other techniques. The quality of the machines used in the process has an impact as well on the overall efficiency of the process. Our goal is to ensure our clients that their order comes in a timely and efficient manner while the quality of the products remains high.

We also recommend a screen printing service for works that have a large design and require a high level of vibrancy, or when using black or other dark coloured garments. The reason why screen-printing dark t-shirts is preferred to any other technique lies in the fact that the ink is applied in more than one layer of colour which, in turn, ensures the overall high quality of the t-shirt.

So What Do You Need to Remember?
  • Think about your designs: are your t-shirts going to use bold graphics?
  • Are you going to print typographic t-shirts?
  • Is your design minimalistic and uses only a limited amount of colours?
  • Are you looking to produce more than ten t-shirts?

If you answered YES to all of the questions above, then you might have your answer already. If you think you might need to use screen printing for your t-shirts, then head over to our t-shirt printing page and get inspired!

A look at how charitable organisations may choose to have t-shirts printed for fun runs and other fundraising events.

Get Seen

Digital fanatics that would find it hard to live in a world where there was no internet access may find it hard to see the sense in more traditional methods of marketing such as using flyers and billboard advertisements. Of course, charities that move with the times are bound to not only use various digital marketing methods but also tried and tested techniques to help promote their brand message. Charitable groups who choose to contact one of the more reputable suppliers of printwear such as t-shirts with the brand message of their clients on the front and back should be able to find a solution to their needs. Having said that, rather than being too impressed with the first provider of printing services for various types of clothing including quality t-shirts, it is wise to take out time with the selection process. It goes without saying that charities that truly care about their cause will not want to waste what little funds they may have on charity t-shirt printing items that do not serve their purpose.

Raising Cash

One thing that many of the established providers of printwear will do is offer heavily discounted printed t-shirts and other garments for the charity groups they deal with. On top of that, lots of companies specialising in printed clothing are able to provide an impressive custom printing service for all the customers they have in their client base. Of course, individuals with a big heart that would like to start their own charity may need to carry out some extensive research so they can realise their ambition. And once charitable people have decided on what cause they will raise cash for, they should start to think about things like retention, marketing and communications. Guides on how to create a blog for your charity and similar sites are ideal for internet-savvy folk who wish to make a difference in the world as they can learn how to support their charity with well-written blogs. However, the t-shirt printing company we finally decide to go with to create eye-catching printed designs for our first fun run is something we may need to get advice on.

Motivation

Although it is often clear to see why anyone may decide to take up a crusade regarding people or animals that do not seem to have much luck in life, there are sometimes less obvious motives for people that take part in charity events. Of course, people that are carrying too much weight after an eventful festive period may be tempted to go on a mini marathon in aid of one of their favourite charities so they can drop a few pounds. Indeed, the sometimes coined “Fit Fundraiser” is a fantastic way to kill two birds with one stone — whilst training might not be your idea of fun, you might as well take some of the pain away by using it to raise some cash. And by ensuring the printwear company we choose to have t-shirts printed for our run or other event is reliable, everything should turn out well. Indeed, the more experienced suppliers of custom printing solutions are more than capable of helping with the designs of the messages the charities would like to convey.

Size Counts

One thing that is certainly part of the services of reputable suppliers of printwear is making sure the t-shirts they provide are the right size for their customers. Of course, it goes without saying that individuals or charity groups that order a huge amount of t-shirts for events are not going to be impressed if the tops do not fit the people that will be helping to raise money for a good cause. One way to avoid these situations would be to look online for the options we have in suppliers of printed t-shirts in a wide range of sizes and designs. With regards to being able to decide on the kind of charity we may want to get involved with, some online research should pay off, in the long run, various other websites can provide invaluable insight into the different types of charity fundraising that people from all walks of life could get involved with.
