A wildflower filled engagement session? I mean this is pretty much as on-brand as it gets for us! From the moment Mike and I met Kelly and Mark we knew they were incredible humans. They are hilarious, smart, kind, adventure-loving and their love and respect for each other was immediately apparent. Oh and did we mention just how darn beautiful they both are inside and out? We started the evening by exploring the redwoods, made our way through some pretty spectacular wildflowers and ended at an overlook where we awe-ed at the stunning and rare rolling green hills here in Southern California. It was perfect! One of our favorite things about engagement sessions is the opportunity to go explore with our couples, to really get to know them and learn their story and all of the amazing, hilarious and adorable nuances that make them unique. We always walk away feeling like we have made great new friends, but each session feels personal, special and not at all like the last. And we love it that way. Kelly and Mark are getting married next year at the beautiful Los Willows in Fallbrook, CA and we can’t wait to be there to document what is surely going to be an incredible day!
What a way to kick off our 2019 wedding season! AJ & Greg’s stunning Calamigos Ranch wedding in Malibu this April was so much more than just another beautiful wedding, it was love in its truest, most genuine form. If there was a moment that summed up their day perfectly, it was when Greg’s father sang “What a Wonderful World” to AJ & Greg during the reception. I found myself wiping away tears from behind my glasses for the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th… or some number I lost count on time as I snapped away and boy did I feel so proud and honored to be in the room in that moment. And as I awkwardly looked around to see if anyone noticed the tears streaming down my cheeks, I quickly realized I was not alone. That moment perfectly summed up the day: the love (quite literally) pouring out of friends and family as they beamed while watching two of their favorite peoples’ wedding day unfold.
From the moment I met AJ, Greg and their adorable pup, Ezra, I knew this family was a special one. These two are the real deal. They are genuine, kind, hilarious, incredibly passionate about their friends and family, fantastic dog dads and their deep love and respect for each-other was instantly apparent to me. This was only confirmed time and time again as we got to know them over the months leading up to the wedding and then again and again on their wedding day as we heard their friends and family share stories and gratitude for having these two in their lives.
Photographing this one felt more documentary than most. That being said, I have to mention that they had the most beautiful backdrop at Calamigos Ranch in Malibu, stunning florals by the The Exotic Green Garden, unforgettable tunes by Karam Universe, fantastic treats by Joy and Sweets and probably the best planner I have ever worked with, Jodi at One Take Events. This was truly one of my favorite vendor teams of all time. All of these beautiful details were a stunning framework for a day that was full of heart-felt moments happening left and right. We couldn’t snap our shutters fast enough; there was love happening 360 degrees around us and we were turning on our heels to catch the numerous perspectives.
Congratulations, AJ & Greg! It was surely a day that made us feel honored and incredibly grateful for the work we get to do, the moments we get to witness and the wonderful humans we have the honor of meeting along the way.
