After deciding to specialize in Destination Weddings and Elopements a couple years ago, Kate and Nate’s wedding served as a reminder of how special the traditional Hometown wedding can be. In spite of it being April in Minnesota (a blend of brown grass, green grass, leafless trees and just enough chill in the air to make the bridesmaids cold) the atmosphere was filled with love, laughter, and reminiscing about the good ole days with long-time friends.
When I asked Kate to describe her wedding day in a few sentences, she said “It was the best day ever! And that pretty much sums it up:)”
Nestled in the middle of Minneapolis, Minnesota sits this quiet historical mansion known as The Blaisdell. It was built in 1915, but has been fully restored since and turned into a modern day wedding venue, with textured white walls, a beautiful staircase, big windows, glass doors that take you to a cute getting ready room to the right and another set that takes you to the well-lit dining area to the left. The windows and white walls make it an ideal venue for film photographers who crave and need light.
From a spark, ignited a bud, from a bud grew a flower, from a flower came a garden. Melisa and Laif fell in love and a few years after marriage, they added another love to their lives. With their focus now turned to nurturing and loving their beautiful son, Oliver, they decided to pause for a moment to rediscover the harbors of their love by renewing their vows at Point Reyes National Seashore.
Along the Northern Pacific Coastline lies some of California’s finest earthly elements: strong boulders, wispy grasses, fragrant flowers, a light breeze, and tall curvy trees all shadowed by rugged, green cliffs and whispers of the ocean tides. These natural features align with the couple’s care for the Earth and their care for one another. The couple chose to have pieces of their original vows professionally hand-written by TSE Calligraphy on plantable wildflower seed paper.
Together the happiness in their life continues to grow.
When was the last time something took your breath away? Something so special and unimaginable, you feel like you’re living while dreaming.
Casey and Ben chose Point Reyes National Seashore in northern California for their engagement shoot because like them, its dynamic and complex and beautiful. It’s in the moment, in one single moment, we begin to feel stillness and serenity and are aware of our true self. Having that feeling next to the person you want to spend the rest of your life with is peaceful, is loving, and is timeless.
When you schedule an engagement session in March in Minnesota you never know what you’re going to get. We might have snow, rain, sunshine…even a blizzard!! I was a little hesitant on my drive to Cannon Falls as the scenery out my window was part snow, part flooded ditches and dead grass where the snow and water didn’t reside. Not to mention it was only 34 degrees, which sadly felt warm compared to the winter we just had.
I arrived at the Kusilek Ranch and again, was a tiny bit sad because this place held soooo many beautiful opportunities for a photoshoot, but the weather conditions turned what could be a pretty snow covered pasture, into an icy river. I put on a smile regardless after I reminded myself that engagement sessions aren’t just about the scene outside, but more about the feelings the couple have towards each other. And oh the feelings I got to capture!! AND the pretty horses!! AND the cutest and sweetest pups!! Who needs green grass or snow capped trees when the couple an the animals are as beautiful as this…
Crackling sand beneath their feet, wind blowing her silky dress, and beautiful florals that reflected the natural tones in the desert and mountain tops; these are the elements that made Anne and Brian’s special day unique, romantic and simply beautiful.
I always envisioned a Vegas elopement with an Elvis officiant, in a casino, but when I visited the outskirts of town a few months back I knew it was capable of so much more than that. I wanted to create something that was classy and fun to show couples that a wedding can be affordable and leave you with memories and images that are just as beautiful. So I did what any other crazed photographer does when they’re excited about something…I threw out an offer that one lucky couple couldn’t refuse!!
“When we saw Trisha’s offer we jokingly said maybe we should get married next month. A few weeks went by and the thought was still in the forefront of our minds so we reached out thinking someone probably snagged it by now. Luckily it must have been meant for us! The hardest part for both of us was keeping it a secret so we decided to tell our family. We had some concerns being we both come from a strong Catholic faith, but we felt God wouldn’t have allowed the process to be so easy and smooth if He was against it. The fact that is sprinkled at the end of our ceremony made us even more excited, as it is rare in the desert and is a sign of good luck. Everything was so personal, fun and smooth. We would do it over again in a heartbeat!” ~Anne
“The most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched, they must be felt from the heart.”-Helen Keller
Some believe horses have a special intuition, the ability to help people connect. Nothing could be more true as this couple affirms their love for one another on their family’s simple, relaxed horse farm. Central Minnesota winters have a special essence; the days are shorter, but the time is softer and slower. Nature has a way of accommodating for creatures both big and small. With its rhythm, nature has a special timing for everything, just as love does. She is confident in his arms and he sees her reflection in his eyes. Their elopement is true and a powerful testament to their love. Together, they will grow stronger in ways they never thought possible, the quintessence of nature.
San Clemente is the Spanish city by the sea in Orange County, California. It emulates romance with its natural features of emerald succulents and azure and cerulean blues from the ocean. There’s a depth to the desert heat, dry and yearning, a thirst only love can quench.
Within this quiet, pacific coast town, lies the unforgettable Mission San Juan Capistrano. The mission has been, and will continue to be, a sanctuary for life, love and hope. In this sacred space, a profound silence of love is documented.
