This color scheme is inspiring me BIG TIME for fall! The cool weather in Carmel certainly is too… it’s been so nice to get away from the crazy Texas heat!! I actually found a really flattering pair of leather pants in a similar hazelnut hue at GBG here in Carmel and am considering going back to buy them. They’re quite an investment, but the color is such a cool alternative to black! I’ll report back if I do… the pants are by this brand.

One item I’m loving in particular in this week’s EDIT is this pair of pumps. The leopard print is spot on (see what I did there?), and the pointy-toe silhouette is my go-to. While animal prints are being looked at as a trend this year, I feel like a good leopard print is a lifelong staple!

My goal with this year’s Nordstrom Anniversary Sale was to buy quality staples I could wear year after year! I’ve done a pretty good job the last few years, snagging pieces I’m still wearing – like a buttery-soft leather jacket (two years ago), the most beautiful beige coat (last year), a cozy neutral cashmere cardigan (two years ago), solid everyday camis (last year), Hanky Panky thongs (every year!!!), etc. With that said, I’ve also made a few mistakes – I’ve purchased pieces I loved in the moment, but didn’t end up wearing much. My goal this year was to pick up less of those items, and I think I’ve done that! Aside from this one pair of trendy boots under $100, all of the pieces I got are classic, comfortable, solid and neutral.

One item I’m really excited about that I haven’t shared on the blog yet is this stylish navy shirtdress by Lafayette 148! As you guys know, I LOVE a shirtdress. I have quite a few in my wardrobe, but most of them are white! While super versatile, they don’t seem very appropriate for the fall season. When I saw this tie-waist navy shirtdress in the Anniversary Sale I figured it would be a nice alternative to white and a good, classic shade I can wear now or in the fall/winter season! Plus, it gives off serious Meghan Markle vibes… I couldn’t resist! I absolutely love the flattering wrap/tie waist. It’s a lightweight, comfortable fabric too. This dress is in the Designer Collections section of the sale, so it’s more of an investment – but in my opinion, a timeless style like this is worth every penny!

If you’re looking for more quality pieces like this from the Designer Collections, don’t miss these:

  • This short sleeve cashmere sweater is the perfect creamy color for fall/winter!
  • On the hunt for a work-appropriate sleeveless top? This one features a ruffle-neck detail and comes in three gorgeous, everyday neutral hues.
  • Gold, black and cream? Yes, please to this Missoni scarf!
  • I have a similar style blouse to this one and get compliments all the time! Such a beautiful basic.
  • Need some new sunglasses? This style and this style are both so chic! Also love this Givenchy pair
  • If you love Brunello Cucinelli, don’t miss this striped shirt. It’s got the look, but a fraction of the price. The subtle chain detail is luxe and so on point!

{ thanks to Nordstrom for sponsoring this post! }

  • Roasted okra, cauliflower, broccoli and carrots with grilled chicken
  • Roasted cabbage steaks and sweet potatoes with parmesan + panko dusted brussels sprouts

In an effort to get back to my healthy routine after two glutinous trips in June, I decided to order these portion control glass food containers on Amazon! I enjoy literally all kinds of food, and really like veggies… so it’s not a matter of eating healthy. It’s that I constantly am eating too much! I’m all about quantity, and feel like I have American’s crazy portion sizes to blame. I’ve wanted to work on my portion control/consumption for a long time, and these cool little glass containers are just the thing to get me started! They are oven, microwave and dishwasher-friendly, so super easy to use and re-use over and over again.

After sharing them on Instagram Stories, I received a flurry of direct messages requesting recipes I am using for these. I originally thought of doing one big post, but since each container meal I make features multiple recipes, that one post would’ve been insanely long! So with that, I’m going to be featuring two entire portion control container meals in each post I do. If you’re ever looking for my recipes on the blog, you can always click on “LIFESTYLE” in the main menu, and then click the “FOOD” category!

I’ll probably do one of these posts each month, as I try new recipes and share the successes with you! I already have a post lined up for August, so stay tuned for the next recipe roundup!

MEAL ONE ROASTED OKRA

I re-discovered okra about this time last year and really got into making it a bunch. I’ve eaten okra my whole life, but had only ever had it fried! I decided to try roasting them and it was a game-changer… much healthier and so tasty! I’ve had a few people ask about how I keep it from getting slimy, and the truth is, that never really goes away. I personally don’t mind it. But, you could try broiling it for a few minutes at the end of cooking that should help crisp the edges up a bit!

INGREDIENTS: One package of fresh okra, olive oil, salt and pepper (to taste).

DIRECTIONS: Heat oven to 450 degrees. Rinse okra and trim each end only (this time I tried making them smaller and cutting them in half, which I do not recommend if you want them less slimy!!). Place into a medium-sized mixing bowl. Toss with olive oil and sprinkle with a generous amount of salt and pepper. Place the okra in one layer on a sheet pan. Roast in the oven for 15 minutes, shaking/stirring the pan every five minutes. I find that setting my timer for five minutes and repeating it two more times is the easiest way to keep track! Remove from heat and place directly into container.

ROASTED CAULIFLOWER

One of my favorite dishes to order from Flower Child is the red chili glazed sweet potatoes. They are equal parts spicy and sweet, so I was eager to recreate something similar at home! I saw red chili paste at the store and decided to try my own hand at it – they turned out really delicious, but they didn’t taste anything like the Flower Child recipe! I did a quick Google search though, and found this – I made it last week and oh, boy, is it a match. I’ll definitely be making that a bunch.

INGREDIENTS: 1 head of cauliflower, 2 tablespoons of olive oil, 1 tablespoon of chili oil, Frontier Co-Op’s Mexican Seasoning (to taste), salt and pepper (to taste).

DIRECTIONS: Heat oven to 425 degrees. Rinse the head of cauliflower and cut up into bite-sized pieces (discarding chunks from the stem). Place cauliflower florets into a large mixing bowl. Pour olive and chili oil over cauliflower and stir until coated. Sprinkle with a generous amount of salt and pepper. At this point you can season with whatever herbs/spices you like! This time I tried Frontier Co-Op’s Mexican Seasoning, featuring chilis, garlic and onion – so good!

ROASTED BROCCOLI & CARROTS

INGREDIENTS: 1-2 heads of broccoli (depending on their size), 2 large carrots, 2 tablespoons of olive oil, Frontier Co-Op’s Garlic ‘N Herb Seasoning, salt and pepper (to taste).

DIRECTIONS: Heat oven to 400 degrees. Rinse broccoli and carrots, and chop both into bite-sized pieces. Place broccoli and carrots into a large mixing bowl, coat with olive oil and season with the seasoning, salt and pepper. Pour veggies on a sheet pan in one layer and roast for 25 minutes.

PROTEIN – I added about half of a chicken filet (sliced) to each container. You could also try with fish or beef!

MEAL TWO ROASTED CABBAGE STEAKS

Ok, this was the first time I’ve made cabbage in a few years and WOW – it is so easy and so good!!!! I was surprised at how much flavor was packed into such a healthy green – I didn’t do anything but add olive oil and salt. So simple!

INGREDIENTS: 1 head of cabbage, 2 tablespoons olive oil, salt and pepper (to taste).

DIRECTIONS: Heat your oven to 400 degrees. Rinse head of cabbage and slice into 1/2 inch thick steaks. Using a brush, apply olive oil on both sides and place onto a sheet pan. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Roast for 18-20 minutes until starting to caramelize/brown.

PARMESAN + PANKO BRUSSELS SPROUTS

I love Brussels Sprouts in all varieties, but I found this recipe a few weeks ago and it was very flavorful and a great texture to throw in with the other roasted veggies I made!

INGREDIENTS: 1 bag of Brussels sprouts (1.5 pounds), 2 tablespoons of olive oil, 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter (melted), 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt, 1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder, 1/4 teaspoon of freshly cracked pepper, 1/3 cup + 2 tablespoons of grated parmesan, 1/3 cup of Panko breadcrumbs, salt, pepper.

DIRECTIONS: Heat oven to 425 degrees. Rinse and trim the brussels sprouts and slice in half if they are on the bigger side. Place in a large bowl and drizzle olive oil and butter. Add in the salt, garlic powder and pepper. Toss gently until evenly distributed/coated. Add the panko breadcrumbs and the 1/3 cup of parmesan and stir until coating all the sprouts. Pour out evenly onto a large sheet pan and roast 18-23 minutes or until they are lightly browned and tender. Remove from the oven and sprinkle remaining parmesan cheese on the sprouts.

ROASTED SWEET POTATOES

I love sweet potatoes in every way, shape or form. Even with just olive oil, salt and pepper – that’s the recipe below… BUT I more recently tried this recipe that recreates Flower Child’s Red Chili Glazed Sweet Potato recipe and I’m hooked. Definitely try that too!

INGREDIENTS: 1-2 medium/large sweet potatoes (depends how many people you’re cooking for!), 2 tablespoons of olive oil, salt and pepper to taste.

DIRECTIONS: Heat oven to 425 degrees. Peel and cube sweet potatoes into 1/2 inch pieces (err on the side of bigger – they shrink when they cook!). In a large mixing bowl, combine sweet potatoes with olive oil, salt and pepper until fully coated. Bake for 30 minutes, flipping the sweet potatoes with tongs every 10 minutes so they get evenly crispy/browned!

I’m trying to limit my consumption of meat to just one meal a day, so I didn’t include a meat protein in this one! You could really add anything to this selection of veggies though – very versatile group!

villa ephrussi de rothschild

I already told you what we did on our last night, but here’s a rundown on what we did during the day! After visiting Eze, we got an uber to drop us off at Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat. We spent at least two hours exploring the property – it is GORGEOUS!

In addition to the pretty pink villa mansion and gorgeous gardens, there are absolutely incredible views everywhere you turn. Villa Ephrussi also has a really interesting history, as it was created for and owned by a woman (rare for the time period). Inside this rose-colored villa you’ll find grand antiques, an extensive collection of rare porcelain, art, sculptures, and more. The gardens are also classified as one of the Notable Gardens in France! Visiting Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild is an absolute must if you happen to be in or near Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat!!!

For my final outfit of the trip, I wore this silk Camilla dress I scored during a Shopbop sale earlier this spring. It was my first time to wear it, and I think it was pretty fitting for the location! The print features rich florals and a gilded design that reminds me of an elaborate gold frame for a magnificent piece of art. It is super lightweight and comfortable, and features a tie-front top + embellishments along the neckline. Super pretty! Fits true to size – I’m wearing a small.

saint-jean-cap-ferrat

After spending mid-morning at Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, we were both starving! We had an uber take us down to the Port where all of the waterfront restaurants are. While all of the places looked cute, we decided the menu looked best at Le Cadillac – the reviews are sort of all over the place online, but we both loved our meals!! I had the most delicious octopus salad, and Meghan said the greek salad was awesome too.

After lunch, we walked over to Paloma Beach for a quick visit – we didn’t get to actually hang out at the beach, but I’m glad we got a chance to see it!! Paloma Beach reminded me of some of Gray Malin’s photographs. It featured a perfectly white sandy beach, stunning turquoise waters, and bright towels and umbrellas dotting the sand. So beautiful!

Sadly we didn’t get to spend more time in Cap Ferrat, as we had those dinner reservations at Hotel du Cap Eden Roc in Antibes… but you better believe I’ll be going back someday! I really wish we could have had a few more days to explore this region of France. Getting a day-and-a-half taste was not enough for me!

Happy Thursday! Back again with a new post from my One Piece, Four Ways series. This time, I’m styling a cozy neutral cardigan from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale for date night, casual weekend, work and brunch (in order clockwise!)!

Pieces like this cardigan are super useful for all kinds of occasions! Personally, I mostly wear my cardigans with lace camis and jeans for desk to dinner looks. Comfortable and casual, but slightly elevated so I’m ready for anything! I hope this post gives you some inspiration on how to style the cardigan(s) you may be buying/have bought from the #NSALE.

PS: Everything but the animal print cami in this collage is under $100. I also rounded up even more cardigan styles I’m loving from the sale below. Lots of good options in neutral hues this season!

Okay, so this tee is actually the only piece in my outfit that is part of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale… but I wanted to show how I’ll be styling it with things other than my #NSALE purchases! You’ve already seen it in this post with my olive green trench and flats, which I think looks so fab for fall. What I love so much about this tee though, is that the color scheme works SO well with a ton of amazing other neutral pieces in my wardrobe. It’s a style that can easily be worn year-round with a variety of things. Not to mention it’s soft and comfy, oh, and under $50.

If you’re in the market for some good basics but don’t want to spend a ton, have I got the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale roundup for you! Don’t miss these ten favorites from the sale that are all under $50.

ten #nsale basics under $50
  1. This puff sleeve tee is $30 and comes in five great colors! I love the 3/4 sleeve on this one – a good update for fall.
  2. This cozy cardigan in beige oatmeal is a year-round neutral! Such a useful color. Also love the longer hem length!
  3. This solid black blouse looks like Equipment, but for a fraction of the price. A classic silhouette for work or the weekend!
  4. This simple ribbed sweater is a nice lightweight layer! I’d get it in black or ivory cloud.
  5. These simple black skinny jeans are only $42 in this sale… incredible!
  6. I’m sad I missed out on this turtleneck in ivory cloud in my size, but I’m going to keep my eye on it! There are five other colors to check out too!
  7. The wider waistband on this pair of faux leather leggings makes them a flattering option for fall/winter!
  8. I have this tee in white and love it! It’s a great everyday v-neck style. It’s on sale for only $12!! Thinking I should also grab it in black and grey while it’s marked down.
  9. Update your work wardrobe with this classic knit midi skirt in black!
  10. I have this top in black from last year and it is sooooo good! Super soft and comfy.

PS: my trench is old Club Monaco, but check out this style, this style and this style to recreate this look!

Keeping things contrasted in black and white today! Loving this Veronica Beard blazer and pant suit. Such a chic look for fall/winter, don’t you think? I’m always a fan of white clothing, no matter what time of year it might be. I recently picked up these gorgeous ivory pumps and they have already been so useful! I can’t wait to wear them into the next season like I’ve worn my white boots the past two years. You can see them styled here, here and here, and I’ll be wearing them on the blog again tomorrow with an entirely different look! I imagine I’ll wear them a lot with cozy sweaters and distressed denim when the temps drop for a cool weekend look.

There are a bunch of ivory and white pieces in the #NSALE too that I’m eyeing, specifically this coat! Such a great piece at such a great price. Tomorrow I’ll be rounding up some of my favorite basics from the Anniversary Sale under $50, so stay tuned!

Whether you like to keep your makeup routine simple like I do, or need a fresh face you can throw on in a pinch, don’t miss my latest video on IGTV! I shared an understated everyday makeup look that I wore to church this morning that took only seven minutes to do. I’ve done my makeup pretty much the same way every day since college, but with different products I’ve picked up and tried over the years – I like to keep things natural and subtle, so be sure to check out these products if you’re looking to do the same!

on my face

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation – I got turned onto this foundation earlier this year and am hooked! Such a lightweight formula – I feel like I’m wearing nothing, but my skin looks fresh as a daisy. I wear #4.

NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer – I’ve worn this concealer for over a decade. Highly recommend! I wear the color Vanilla.

NARS Eyeshadow in Bali – I use this ashen brown hue to define my brows! Such a great color for blondes.

Benefit Cosmetics Hoola Bronzer – This is another product I’ve used for years! If you’re pale like I am, this is the most natural looking bronzer, but it’s totally buildable. I get the “medium” color.

Laura Geller Beauty Blush-n-Brighten Baked Blush – love this blush for a subtle flush! I have the color Tropic Hues.

on my eyes

NARS Duo Eyeshadow in Alhambra – NARS used to make All About Eve, the very best base/neutral shadow duo. While that product doesn’t exist anymore, they came out with this similar set a couple years back! It’s got a little more pigment, but it’s still such a beautiful neutral combo!

Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Eyeliner – I’ve used this eyeliner since college too! Such a great formula and it’s very easy to apply! I’m wearing Alloy, a grey shade here – it’s less intense than black for daytime wear.

Givenchy Base Mascara Perfecto Primer – Ever since I started using this primer a few years ago it’s become a staple in my everyday routine. In addition to neuLASH, this primer lengthens and thickens my lashes before applying my go-to black mascara.

CoverGirl Clump Crusher Mascara – This drugstore find is amazing! Another product I’ve been using for years now. I love how the sharper bristles really help separate each individual lash! I apply two coats, giving my lashes about 30 seconds to dry in between each coat.

on my lips

MAC Lipstick in Dandy Apple – I got this lip kit during #NSALE Early Access and have been LOVING the lipstick that came with it! The perfect nude. It’s got warmer undertones than the other nude lipsticks I own, so I like that this is a slightly different look.

Chanel Rouge Coco Lip Gloss in #774/Excitation – This is my current favorite go-to gloss! It’s a sheer shimmery gold, which looks great over every lipstick I own.

Now that I’ve done the roundup of my dressing room selfies from shopping Early Access at Nordstrom last week, I wanted to deep dive into certain categories to share my very favorites! Today I thought I’d focus on boots and other shoes, because unlike sweaters and coats, they are items you can style early in the season… some you can even wear right now! Below are five pairs of shoes and boots from the Anniversary Sale that you absolutely cannot miss:

the trend piece

Ok, I know these snakeskin print boots are a little wild… but I’m obsessed! I’ve been talking a lot about snakeskin ahead of this sale, and it’s definitely the biggest print trend I’ve seen this season. These boots feature a leg-elongating pointed toe (my fave!), and the shaft hits me at the skinniest part of my leg, therefore making them the MOST flattering style! They’re also really comfortable, thanks to the sturdy block heel. The best part about these beauties? They’re under $100! Such a great price for a trend piece like this. I have a similar printed pair by Alexander Wang I wear a lot (styled here and here for reference), so I know these are going to be useful this fall/winter. PS: These boots run big – I normally wear a 9 1/2 and bought these in a 9!

the feminine flat

If you’re in need of a stylish flat for work or travel, definitely don’t miss this sophisticated scalloped pair! I thought the black pair looked so pretty on my feet, however I just didn’t need to buy another pair of black flats – I have too many pairs as it is! I also really love the praline color, and am considering ordering them online to try. These shoes run on the big/wide side, so size down a half size! Also, these flats are only $69.90 during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale… they go back up to $109.95 on August 4th!

the everyday boot

The other pair of shoes I snagged during the sale is this chic pair of Vince ankle boots! I actually got mine in camel suede, but it looks like now they only have the black leather style left. I’ll keep an eye on them and let you know if the suede options come back in stock! Love the notched topline – it’s a stylish accent that instantly elevates this everyday bootie. Vince is one of my very favorite high-quality contemporary brands, and their pieces are always built to last. Highly recommend investing in these boots like I did! If you want to copy my camel suede boots for less, don’t miss this Sam Edelman pair – they’re more affordable (under $100!) and look very similar!

the transitional mule

These simple cognac mules are the definition of a transitional staple! They look just as cute with jean shorts and lightweight dresses for summer as they do with jeans and sweaters heading into fall. They’re on sale for only $54.90 and also come in black! These fit true to size and are super, super comfy.

the comfy sneaker

Whether you need these for everyday activities and errands or plan to trot the globe in them, these comfy sneakers are about to be your go-to. This is actually a style Meghan Markle owns herself! See her in them here. I didn’t try these on myself, but every review says to size down! These great sneakers are on sale for $59.90, but will go back up to $80 at the end of the Anniversary Sale.
