Choosing the right feed idea for your Instagram can really make a difference. It helps you stand out from the crowd and grow your Instagram. You can experiment with different feeds and see how it affects your engagement rate. You can also choose your own signature feed layout which will make you stand out even more. For today’s feed ideas I have been searching Instagram fitness accounts. I’m going to show you examples of Instagram themes, feed layouts and grids you can create for your Instagram account. From what I have found it’s obvious that feed layouts are becoming very popular on Instagram amongst personal and business accounts. Not only are people sticking to a layout but they are experimenting with this and combining feed ideas in their layout. Quick tip: You can use Preview app to design your feed, edit your photos, schedule your posts (and even find fitness hashtags). Ready? Ok, let’s get started! Feed idea 1. Poses/mirror shots First feed idea for fitness: Posing! This is your most common shot when it comes to fitness. Ranging from small Instagram users with only a few hundred followers to users with 1million + followers everyone has shots of mirror poses. Some have taken this to another level by turning it into a feed layout. Have a look at @cristiano.m.marinho who is a professional competitor, @jay_darko who is a fitness instructor and @amandaregiina who is a regular person who likes to work out. As you can see a variety of people like to use this type of feed. Feed idea 2. Videos of training Some people specialise in taking videos of themselves training. First, these videos can make you go viral because they catch our attention. Second, it’s an awesome way for people to see you perform big lifts and tough exercises. Videos are becoming increasingly popular on Instagram, especially with the introduction of IGTV videos. A big part of fitness is about exercising and getting those big lifts. Hence it is no surprise that videos are very popular for fitness accounts. @blaqveganfitness only uses videos of herself working out. @drew_miller_kbpt uses mainly videos as single posts and in carousels combined with the tiles layout.  Feed idea 3. Row by Row layout Tammy Hembrow uses the row by row feed for her business account @saskicollection Feed idea 4. Column by Column, single line in the middle or down the side layout This is one of the more popular Instagram feed ideas in general: the “Column by Column” Feed Layout.Another favorite in the industry is to use the “Line in the Middle” feed layout. Usually people do this with meals or quotes, but as usual creativity is key here. Feel free to experiment with this. @mitakadi is very creative with his posts and uses exercise demonstrations for one line, meals with descriptions in the middle line  and videos of right and wrong way to do exercises in the other one. Very creative indeed! All our other examples kept it simple and only use one line down the middle. Check them out by clicking on the photo. And also have a look here to see how to make the white line down the middleClick here for the tutorial. Feed idea 5. Tiles This is one of our favorites: the “Tiles” feed layout. The tiles feed layout is becoming increasingly popular, especially since it stands out so much. The favourite one seems to be using food like  @balancedkim and quotes like @jessicashawfitness and @hendo_inspires. Click here for the tutorial. Feed idea 6. Puzzle feed The good ol’ puzzle feed. I could only find one person using a “Puzzle” feed layout and that is @hendo_inspires yet again. It takes a bit of time and effort that’s why it is hard to find. In saying that, it is not very difficult to create. We have 2 tutorials for you: Click here for the tutorial using Photoshop Click here for the tutorial without Photoshop   Feed idea 7. Color Theme A good way to brand your Instagram is to stick to a certain color. For example the color theme can depend on a season, your unique brand identity or a new product range. @marianalogue uses dark and purple colours to show of her outfits she is wearing for a certain even or promo. @fullyrawkristina likes to stick to bright, strong and colourful filters. Her account is mainly about raw fresh food and travelling to exotic locations. It is no surprise she uses these filters to stand out. She has created her own brand identity and only uses these type of  filters. insert link on preview filters*  Feed idea 8. Products, products, products Some accounts only show products. Instagram is used for business and some like to get straight to the point and show what they are offering. This keeps things simple because you can focus on the products and it also makes the filters and type of grid you use more important. Have a look at @mikayogawear and @fitness_meals Feed idea 9. White borders White borders are becoming increasingly popular and can really make your feed stand out. There is nothing like a white space separating your posts. Have a look at @carli.blu who uses white borders in a very unique way. She uses a thick border in the middle down the line and a small one on the sides. Feel free to experiment around with this although the standard white border seems to do the trick. Feed idea 10. Meals Some people only show meals. Meals are always popular on Instagram. You can experiment with different filters/colour combinations on this one. This seems a popular choice for fitness and especially accounts who focus on meal prep or have a meal prep company. The way to stand out here is to use unique filters, backgrounds and colour combinations. Feed idea 11. Mixture of personal/training/products/meals Share a mixture of personal posts, training, meals etc. Sometimes it’s ok to post whatever you feel like. It might not look as aesthetically pleasing as some other feeds but you can still pull this off if it suits your personality. Have a look at @fiftyshadesofshay and @boostingbodies.at.   That’s it! As you can see there are a variety of ways to present your Instagram feed for fitness accounts. Some stick to one layout, whereas a lot of people mix up many ideas together in one. As with everything, the key is creativity and finding what works best for you. Until next time. x. This blog post is written by our friend Anita, Founder of Wordfetti. Oh boy. The dreaded writer’s block! It’s an ailment very few are immune to. Yep, even us copywriters (journalists, bloggers, novelists, you name it) with years of experience are known to suffer from the chronic condition from time to time. We’re regularly asked how to overcome a bad case of I-don’t-know-what-to-write-itis, and in more recent years, I-don’t-know-what-to-write-in-this-Instagram-caption-itis. So, it’s only fair we share some of our cures for this debilitating disorder so you will never (ok, rarely) suffer from I-don’t-know-what-to-write-itis again. Pens and papers ready? Let’s do it. Why Writer’s Block Happens First, let’s start with the psychology behind writer’s block. The thing is, if we are to get down to basics, writer’s block is likely brought on by a few things, which are (#truthbomb) usually all in our head. Perfectionism, fear of rejection and lack of time are some of the main causes of writer’s block and manifest in excuses, procrastination and, you guessed it, the inability to get our brain into gear. A 2012 Psychology Today article discusses the challenges of embarking on a new project – in other words, sitting in the chair and putting all your energy into making magic on the page. “The prospect of having to invent an entire world is a little like having the creative responsibilities of God – with none of the superpowers,” the article stated. “The task feels impossible.” This post refers to the state of flow. Without a sense of flow, writers may feel paralysed, stagnant in their rut. Instead of fixating on how to express yourself ‘well’, think about expressing yourself freely. Try to ignore the stories you’re telling yourself in your head: “I’m not good enough”, “What if they hate it?” or “I don’t have time for this.” It will actually take some mindfulness to focus on the task at hand and ignore that voice in your head telling you you’re not good enough – and yes, it’s just a made up story. Know Your Brand But sometimes writer’s block goes a little further than psychology. Sometimes it comes down to not knowing your brand inside and out and being constantly inspired by your brand messaging. Let’s say you’re so excited about a beautiful photo you’re ready to post on Instagram, but you can’t think of a witty caption to go with it. You’d love to be one of those brands who can tell a long and interesting story about how they started their business, or how they got their name. But you have no idea what your story is. Brands often come to us asking for help with their Instagram captions and this is usually where they’re falling down – by either not having an articulated brand message, or having one and forgetting just how important it is, especially when presenting their brand on social media. So, what can you do now? Here are 4 ways to help you cure your next case of I-don’t-know-what-to-write-itis. 1. Get clear on your brand values The first thing to consider are your brand values . Also known as: What do YOU as a brand stand for? These are things like honesty, integrity, innovation, respect and basically explain the way your business/brand operates. Whatever your values are, they underpin all of your brand messaging and should definitely be thought of prior to writing Instagram copy. A tip: If you have five brand values, try to write your posts based on those values. If a brand value is sustainability, on Mondays write something that conveys how important sustainability is to you. If your second value is honesty, write something truthful about yourself or your business that people will connect with, on Tuesdays. 2. Know your brand personality Perhaps you’ve written your caption but it’s sounding a little ‘meh’. It tells the story you were hoping to tell but there’s no personality, no excitement, and no call to action. It’s there, but it’s not there, you know? This is where your brand personality comes in. We will harp on about the importance of brand personality until the cows come home and it’s something we specialise in at Wordfetti; it’s the foundation for every word we write for each of our clients. If you know your brand personality, it’s going to be much easier to concoct interesting Instagram captions (or any brand messaging for that matter). Is our personality cheeky, professional, informative, humorous, energetic, tongue-in-cheek? No matter the personality traits, once it’s nailed, not only will you find that cloud of Instagram writer’s block slowly lifting away, but you will also humanise your brands. 3. Know your big brand message Your big brand message or your unique selling proposition (USP) is what sets you apart from your competitors. This is a few paragraphs explaining what it is that you do and why it makes you better than the rest. If you know this message, you can make sure it is articulated in your Instagram captions – sometimes subtly, sometimes obviously. If your brand message is “we put the fun in functional fitness,” be sure to always articulate this in your Instagram captions. Don’t confuse your audience by writing a lengthy caption about metabolic conditioning when they’re used to you posting light, positive messages that encourage them to move their body. 4. Ask: what do you want to get across? Stop. Step Back. And ask: “What is the one big takeaway or question you want to answer?” Then ensure your caption paints a picture to answer that. If it’s an Instagram caption think about if you want to include dot points, if you want the caption to start big and bold with a controversial statement, if you want it to be short, succinct and to the point, or if it’s going to be long and conversational. If it’s a long caption, it’s handy to pick one point you’d like to get across, write a few sentences building up to that point and then finish with a call to action. Once you have your structure, consider tips one to three and write that bad boy! That’s it! So fam, there you have it. It’s important to understand that writer’s block is inevitable and it happens to the best of us. Whether it’s your brain playing tricks on you or you forgot to consider your brand messaging, it will happen and you will get out of it eventually if you stop, step back, look at things differently, and consider these four points before you make your move. Say hello to @autumrainn, a ray of sunshine on Instagram! She has been using Preview to design her Instagram feed for 2 years now. This, is her Behind the Feed: what goes on in her mind and in her life. What you might not see on Instagram but what everyone is wondering: from photo concepts to the mindset it takes to grow an Instagram account so fast from scratch. We’ll start with easy questions. And then we will get deep and personal. Thank you for sending your questions to Autum. Here are some of the most frequently asked ones. Let’s start! Before we start, can you please introduce yourself to everyone? What’s your name, where are you from and what do you do? My name is Autum Rainn, I am 22 years old and I am a full time influencer and content creator from Phoenix, AZ. I create for a living and I LOVE IT! Oh and yes, Autum Rainn is my real name! How did it all start? What inspired you to become an influencer? And at what point did you know you could / wanted to do this for a living? I have always had a passion for self expression and creativity. I used to be the little girl who carried a camera around everywhere she went, taking pictures of my friends. I started my journey on IG after seeing so many of my idols posting and making this their job, so I became determined to do it too! What gets your creative juices flowing? What / who inspires you the most? My surroundings! Just the other day a photo concept popped into my head after listening to a song on the radio. When you are in a constant state of creation, you see things and observe things in a different light. I’m always asking myself, how can I create something with this? How do you come up with such creative content and concepts for your photos? My favorite thing to do is start with a prop. Anything will do! A lollipop, an old school phone, coffee, flowers, it can be anything. From there I build the photo around that object. It’s so fun! How do you get out of a creative rut? First, let yourself feel uninspired. There’s nothing worse than trying to force a great idea out of yourself. After you take that time, go actively search for what may inspire you. Buy a random magazine and build a photo off of one of the pages you see. Look at things in a different light! What camera do you use to take photos? I use the Canon 5D Mark IV and I LOVE IT How do you choose which photos to post on your feed? I post what makes me feel happiest. If I feel good about myself, and proud of my work, it’s POSTED! How do you edit your photos and make them all look good together? I have created my own presets, or editing filters for Lightroom all from scratch! I have them up for sale on gumroad.com/autumrainn. I highly recommend my Summer pack – that’s what I use for all my photos in my feed! Your top tips to stick to a theme? Temperature is a big way to keep your photos cohesive. I try to keep a warm temperature in my feed, and even if I have several different colors in them, if the overall vibe is warm, it brings it all together! I don’t like to stick to just a few color combinations in my feed– the world is filled with millions of colors so I never want to restrict myself! How far in advance do you usually plan your Instagram feed? I like to fly by the seat of my pants (not sure if it’s a good thing or not) but I always have at least 3-4 in the works! Do you write your caption in advance? Or just before you post? I only write out my captions in advance if I feel inspired in that moment. I have a section in my notes app on my phone where I put whatever I’m feeling inspired by in the moment, whether that’s a caption, a photo concept, or something one of my followers asked me to do! Tips for posting consistently on Instagram? Quality over quantity. Create what you feel PROUD of, and don’t feel pressured to stick to a schedule. You don’t ever want to burn out and lose your passion. When you’re passionate, you won’t have to ever look for the determination. It’ll be there! Tips for taking good photos? Take a ton! I can’t tell you how many times I thought I got the shot, only to come home and realize it was blurry or I had something in my teeth. Take a lot of shots! Tips for posing in photos? Practice in a mirror before you go shoot. The hardest thing about shooting is you can’t see what you look like during, so get a good idea of how you want to move your body before you get in front of the camera. I do it every single time! Where did you get those bomb dance moves? I was a competitive and trained dancer from age 3-18 so I got a lot of practice haha! (thanks mom!) But seriously though, how do you stay so confident on Instagram? I think you just have to remember that the world wants to see YOU. There’s already so many people on this platform, so there’s no point in trying to be like someone else. I remind myself that I have something very unique to offer to the world (even if I don’t even know what that is!) so I force myself to be confident in my authentic self. Do you ever have bad days? And how do you deal with life and Instagram during those bad days? YES! All the time. My followers know I struggle with anxiety and depression. I love to talk about it and be open. It’s not something to be ashamed of or try to hide in an attempt to seem perfect. I want my followers to know we can all relate to each other. How long did it take you to grow your account to where it is at today? I’ve been trying to grow my account for around a year and a half now. How did you grow your Instagram and the beautiful following that goes with it, so quickly? In your opinion, what are the key components in building an awesome audience as an influencer? Find something that sets you apart. What’s one of your favorite qualities about yourself? Run with it. What’s your favorite thing to do? Run with it! I love being silly, goofy, and dancing. The minute I started letting those qualities show online was the minute I started to grow my wonderful audience! How to stand out from the crowd? Well, I think, stop trying to fit in, and don’t try to push yourself to be extremely unique, either. So many people put a front or a face on for social media. If you are truly your own individual self, you will stand out. I promise. What do you think is a good age to try and become an influencer? Whatever age you feel you’re ready at. There will be criticism, there will be bad days, there will be bullies. It’s the best job in the world, but just make sure you feel steady enough in your foundation to rise above it. How do you even start? I would love to start creating content but I don’t know how. Get inspired! Find accounts that make you feel inspired to create. Follow other creators. Reach out to people in your niche. Make some friends. Fill your home feed with inspiration, then go create something yourself! How did your family and friends react when you told them what you do? And how do you help them understand your goals? Everyone in my life has been so supportive. I couldn’t ask for a better support system! They think it’s such a cool job! Tip of the day: Rearrange Instagram posts. If you love checking how your posts look like next to each other, and you want to design your feed, you’re going to love Preview app. Preview app is an Instagrammer’s dream come true: you can rearrange Instagram posts, edit your photos, find amazing hashtags, and so much more! Are you ready? There is not just one way to rearrange posts in Preview. Not 2 ways. But 3 different ways to rearrange Instagram posts: 1. Drag & drop2. Swap3. Shuffle 3 ways= maximum control over your Instagram feed= Instagram feed design paradise Let’s have a look at each one. Remember: Instagram doesn’t allow anyone to rearrange Instagram photos that are already posted. That’s why you can use Preview App to plan your feed in advance so you can see how it will look like before you post on Instagram. But if you really, really want to rearrange Instagram posts that you already posted, then there is a trick: click here. 1. Drag and Drop The most popular way to change the order of posts is the “drag and drop”. To drag and drop: Hold your finger on a post Drag it where you want it to be Drop it This is the feature if you need to move a post between two other posts. 2. Swap This is my personal favorite. The “Swap” feature allows you to only move / swap 2 posts. This is an awesome feature if you like to stick to a specific Instagram grid layout, or if you only want to move 2 posts.Nothing else in your feed will move, except those 2 posts. To swap posts: Select two posts you want to swap Press on the “swap” icon (the arrows) at the bottom of your screen 3. Shuffle The Shuffle option allows you to change the order of multiple posts, at the same time, in one tap. To shuffle: Select 3 (or more) posts Press the “swap” icon For example, in my Preview feed below I selected the photos of flowers only.
Once I press on the “arrows” button, only the flower photos will move. The rest of my feed will stay the same.
That’s it! One more tip: When you open Preview for the first time ever, you will need to upload your posts. To upload your posts: Press on the + button Select “Photos / Videos” Done! You will be able to rearrange their order. Have fun! That’s it! One more tip: When you open Preview for the first time ever, you will need to upload your posts (remember: Instagram doesn’t allow anyone to rearrange posts that are already posted, so you will need to upload new posts in Preview first). To upload your posts: Press on the + button Select “Photos / Videos” Done! You will see your posts in your Preview feed, and you will be able to rearrange their order. Have fun!
