My name is Donna and I am a mommy to one energetic toddler, on fur baby and the wife to US Navy Sailor. I love being an entrepreneurship and blogging, when the opportunity came to combine the two I was utterly bliss. To keep up my constant change in my mompreneurship journey feel free to follow my various social media outlets!
I’m sure that you’re wondering, what the heck do you mean by becoming a mom and entrepreneurship. Well in order to become a Mompreneur, it starts with being a mom first. Sometimes the roles are reverse when pursuing entrepreneurship and mommyhood. When I started my consulting business, I found out that I was 9 weeks pregnant! Being pregnant while pursuing my business gave me the drive to work hard and to make my business a success.
When planning for motherhood, here are a few tips to consider for beginning entrepreneurship.
Plan accordingly: During my pregnancy I worked until the day I had my daughter. I think I had more energy while I was pregnant compared to now. I planned my events and appointments arounded my pregnancy. Being a millennial mompreneur has definitely changed compared to 10 + years ago. You can raise your little one from the comfort of your home, chilling in your pj’s. Plus if I had an event come up my husband and I would team up to spend time with our daughter as I worked.
Ask for help: I know as mothers we are able to conquer great task, but that doesn’t mean you should stress yourself out and take on motherhood and business on your own. If you are comfortable with outsourcing child care, then you should go for it. My mother in law and my mother are very supportive when it comes to my daughter, they love to spoil her.
Don’t Give Up: When things get tough we can’t run away from the issue, you must find the balance. When I am searching for balance I usually make a list of the things that I want to accomplish and prioritize them around what I can get done before my toddlers nap and what should be done during nap time. Plus you always have the time when everyone has gone to bed and you have that grand moment of peace and quiet. Considering putting your social media platforms into the hands of a social media strategist or virtual assistant. Make things easier and not hard, ensure that your business model fits the lifestyle that you want to have.
Find A Outlet for Stress: One of my favorite things to do when I get stressed is to go to yoga. Honestly I go to yoga even if I’m not stress out. Yoga gives me the opportunity to clear my mind and come up with new ideas. Another outlet is that I love shopping for things that will help my business, such educational books, planners, and desk nic nacs. I also love to go church which is a constant outlet in which I can pray and worship with my friends and family. I encourage you to find something that will work for you.
Becoming a millennial mom/mompreneur definitely comes with its own reward because you are able to become involved with other like minded mompreneurs through social media groups and do more adventurous things such as living abroad running your business rather than staying home. Just because you become a mom doesn’t mean you have to stop living your best life. I love you go to mompreneur networking events and meet so many like minded moms. I hope this has been an awesome read for the millennial mompreneur looking for guidance.
In spirit of my 28th birthday, I thought I would compile 28 tips for the Mompreneurs. As mompreneurs we are always researching ways to improve our businesses or even tips or tricks to starting a business.
It’s never too late to start a business: I pretty sure that we have all wanted to be entrepreneurs, but we couldn’t get up the courage to give it a try. Well there is no age limit on when you can start a business. All you need is time!
An Idea: It all starts with an idea, this motivation had to derive from somewhere.
Motivation: The only way you are going to want to start a business is if you are motivated to try something new.
Business Planning: A business plan can be one page or 30 pages, it is best to organize your thoughts so that you know which direction you intend to take. Especially if you are needing investors on your team.
What type of business? Who are you are going to be? A bakery, MUA, Childcare Facility, Medical Facility?
What is your business structure? Are you looking into sole proprietorship, Limited Liability Company (LLC), Partnership, etc.
Finding the Funds/You don’t always need money to start a business: Not all businesses cost money! Usually when you are providing such as business consulting or public relations you are able to start the business from little to nothing.
Do your research!: There are so many laws out there that you don’t want to break. Also there are are tons of competitors that you need to set yourself apart from.
Know Your Product: You need to be able to sell your product to a complete stranger and have passion for what you are selling.
Build a rapport: Become knowledgeable about your vendors, customers and other businesses. You want people to remember your business and what you stand for.
Social Media: In this day and age the only way to get in touch with your customers is through their Iphone. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and various other apps are where your customers are.
Don’t be afraid of failure: The only way is up, things will definitely get hard but it is up to you to dust the failure off and try again.
Hiring/Team Building: As a new business you don’t always need to hire a staff. Starting off it can be you and family or a close friend. If you do hire someone make sure that they are reliable and trustworthy.
Customer service is key: It is important to meet the needs of your customers. Make them want to come back and tell their friends about how awesome your company is!
You are your investment: You have to invest in yourself before you expect anyone else to invest in you. Meaning it’s okay to buy that business book or go to that educational MUA seminar, just make sure that you are doing something that will benefit your business.
Branding: You need to set yourself apart, if you are a blogger you need to find the niche that makes you stand out. As a photographer you have to have the best photos and editing software.
Trademark/Copyright: Protect your brand, if you aren’t copyrighted or Trademark someone can steal your work and there will not be repercussions. So do yourself a favor and do your research to protect yourself.
Know your product: Don’t try to sell something that you don’t have a clue of what you’re talking about. If you are selling baby skin products then I need you to be able to tell me everything that is it in it and how wonderful and beneficial it is for my toddler.
Manage your time wisely: You have to make time for your business. I know we get distracted by our day to day life but if you want this entrepreneurial thing to work, then you need to manage your time wisely.
Plan accordingly: Get A Planner! The only way you are going to be successful is if you know what your day to day looks like.
Be Organize: Have a space where you know where everything is and everything has a place. As moms we may live in chaos but we need that chaos to be somewhat organized.
Set Deadlines: If you set a deadline then you won’t procrastinate in getting stuff done. A deadline is good for keeping you on your toes!
Remove Distractions: I know our kids are our biggest motivation, but when it comes down to business we need to limit any distractions. It may be best to work early morning, nap time or even when they are in child care/school. Find time for you to make your dream come true.
It’s okay to make mistakes: If you don’t mistakes how else do you expect to learn from them. Don’t get down on yourself because something didn’t go right, there is always time to make it right.
Minimize debt (no debt): Protecting your credit/ or business credit is important because you shouldn’t break the bank to break even. If you see that you are going into debt then it is time to strengthen your financial plan.
Network Network Network: Go to the events! How do you expect people to know who you are if your not putting yourself out there. Not everyone is going to be on Facebook or Instagram. Go to the events or tell people that you meet about your business.
Monetize your talents: DO NOT give your talents away for free. That college education wasn’t free nor was your product/service you are selling. Do not sell yourself short, if the customer is not willing to buy your product then remember there is another customer that will.
Make it a family affair: If your family works strong together and get along then include them in the product. My husband and daughter are my motivation to succeed and they give me great ideas towards my business. So pick your families brain, this will benefit them in the long run.
I hope that you enjoyed my birthday business tips! If you have a birthday in January :HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
2017 has come to an end and it is time to embrace 2018. I’m pretty sure that this past year has been an interesting roller coaster ride. This year my primary focus has been set on my family, which is not a bad thing but I didn’t set time aside for me.I didn’t do much to my hair or makeup, and I decided that I’m going to set more time for me.
So I am encouraging you to focus on Self Care.
If you can’t afford to do some of the things on your self care list here are a 10 tips to practice self care in 2018.
Here are some tips to make sure that you are taking care of yourself:
Coffee-time: I know that we all have experience the “don’t talk me until I have my coffee”. Coffee-time for me is sacred and it definitely gives me life. I mostly drink our coffee in the morning which gives me the opportunity to reflect on my day and to figure out what adventure my daughter and I would embark on.
Massage/facial: Getting a massage or facial can definitely relax the body and relieve stress. It also releases the toxins and leads to recovering with muscles pain and it releases endorphins & enhances your mood.

Bubble bath w/ aromatherapy(essential oils): My favorite essential oils are Eucalyptus, lavender, and lemongrass; they hold the healing properties of muscle aches, colds, anxiety, and mood swings.Enjoy a large glass of wine and soak those worries away.
Mani/Pedi: If you get the opportunity to leave the house for a few hours take the time to get a much needed mani/pedi. You need to relax, relate and release; you can’t expect to be helpful to your family or those around you if you don’t take time for yourself. Do you!
Yoga/Meditation: Yoga and meditation has definitely changed my life, especially when I get stressed out or I just want to be healthy in my mind and body. With meditation I am able to reflect on the things that may affect me whether it is parenting or balancing entrepreneurship. I love how I am able to strengthen my body through yoga and use meditation for self awareness.
Journal: Journaling is definitely something that I encourage everyone to do. You are able to be creative or you can write about your troubles to help let them go. I know that we all have moments where we feel that no one understands what you are going through, but if you write it down then you are able to free yourself from that burden.

Lazy Day: Recently I took the time to do almost absolutely nothing, I was determined to relax and not to run myself crazy. Having a lazy day gives you the opportunity to take care of yourself and to do less as possible.
Vacation: Pack you an overnight bag and get you can an Airbnb and go have fun. Take the time not planning your getaway.
Get dolled up: Recently I’ve got back into makeup and I decided to make this my mandatory mommy-time. I am loving how I am able to be creative and enjoy the time to myself. You can get dolled up and you don’t have to go anywhere.
Binge watch movies/shows: During this holiday season I’ve been binge watching everything HallMark. I love a romantic Christmas story, especially when they have an adorable story line. Hallmark is so great even when they have the same story line but it gets addictive.
Some of my favorite sites to use for finding discounted hotels, spa, hair packages, and etc is Groupon, Living social and Airbnb.Check them out! (This is not sponsored)
I hope that my 2018 Self care tips are helpful to you. You have to remember that you need to make time to slow down and make time for you!
Have you ever wondered how you can stay home and work in your pajamas while living the SAHM life. Well you have definitely come to the right place. It is great when you can find the balance of raising a family and earning some bucks! As a mom I love to have a flexible schedule because I want to be available for my husband and daughter especially with the military schedule that my husband keeps.
Sahm: Stay at home mom
Here are a few opportunities that can put some money in your pocket…
Earning money from sponsors can actually be fun and rewarding. You can share your opinion on a product and get paid!
People love things that are personally made especially if it has a significant value “memories”. Tell me this do you remember something if it was crafted or something from Amazon. You can craft jewelry, shirts, crochet, or even something artistic.
I’m sure there are plenty of things in your closet or lying around that you may not have a use for, so why not sell it. Plus if your have gifted hands you can even restore furniture.
There are tons of bloggers/websites out there that can benefit from an awesome writer. This is definitely the opportunity for flexibility especially when you need exposure for an existing blog or you need an opening to build your resume.
I know we all get the receipts with the surveys at the bottom or we even see the commercial for E-bates. This are some the easiest methods to earn some quick cash. Earning cash is so much easier with the technology advances out there, it is really so convenient that you can do this from your phone.
I know we all have our favorite stores and sometimes we can’t leave home to run those much needed errands. Well things will be easier if we call that personal shopper to bring a jug of milk or even assist an elderly person by meeting there needs.
Earning money as a stay at home mom (sahm) doesn’t have to be difficult and the extra income can definitely come in handy when you need to buy gifts or last minute things.
*I hope this has been helpful, comment your suggestion or advice for the sahms.
The holiday season is among us , you may have a young up and coming family or a well experienced family ; my point for saying this is we all love traditions. I am a huge traditionalist especially now that I have my own family. I love the traditions that my parents bestowed upon me! I really wanted to add to the or put my own spin on things.
Just this past Thanksgiving my family had our own Thanksgiving/ Friendsgiving without our entire family. This Christmas we won’t be doing Elf on the Shelf, I really wish that we could but I figured my daughter wouldn’t understand the concept and the Elf would become her favorite toy instead. We do intend to leave milk and cookies for Santa!
Here are a few traditions to try with your family:
Watching Christmas Movies
I’ve been encouraging the Christmas movies because I want my daughter to understand who Santa is and that he isn’t scary.
Go See Santa and Take a Picture
We took Mariah to see Santa last year and she did very well, but this year not a chance. She was not feeling Santa at all! We even sat with Santa to make it easier. I think we can chop this up to her needing a nap. So, make sure that your little one is well rested and dressed for the occasion.
Dress for the Occasion
I think it is so cute to have matching pajamas or t-shirts to wear for picture day or the holiday festivities.
A Delicious Family Treat/Santa Treat
Recently, I attended an event at church for Friendsgiving and I tasted one of the most delicious cookies EVER!
This S’Mores Cookie was beyond delicious and it has definitely made the list of cookies for Santa. I found a delicious recipe on Pinterest for a S’mores Cookie .
I hope that my family traditions give you ideas for your family!
Start each day with Morning Affirmations. For example: “Today I choose to be Love with each person I come in contract with.” “Today, when I think I need anything, I know that it will be provided” (n.d) This will help you think positively and shift your thoughts when you have challenges throughout the days. Here is a wonderful website with more beautiful holiday affirmations available at: http://www.healyourlife.com/25-very-special-holiday-affirmations
Take time to yourself. Even if it is just a small amount of time 10 to 20 minutes. Give yourself time each day to just relax and slow down. Many of us have family and friends visiting for the holiday which is wonderful; just remember to still take time to have a moment of peace. Breathe.
Write down your thoughts. Writing down what you a grateful this is a great tool to help you become calm and happy.

I had to report to the hospital at 8 a.m. to start my intake and presurgical testing. Basically, they had me take a pregnancy test and blood work. My husband and daughter accompanied me to the hospital and it definitely was an emotional moment for my daughter because she was able to come with me. I went into surgery at 11 a.m. and woke up at 2 p.m. The recovery nurse was really sweet because she noticed that I was emotional due to the anesthesia. My nerves were already everywhere before the surgery, I literally felt as if I was going to pee my pants (lol). My family wasn’t allowed to see me until 5 p.m. that evening. It felt so good to hold my baby. Usually when you go through something so intense such as surgery you want to be surrounded by positivity and innocence. It was a relief to hold my baby girl after not being able to see her for over 8 hours. It was so sweet because she was napping and the last time I held her like that was when I gave birth to her.
Image: Sharing love a few hours after waking up. A course I didn’t wake up glammed up lol
A course throughout my surgery day I was heavily medicated and the medicine they sent me home with keeps me drowsy. During my one day stay in the hospital I was pumped with tons of fluid and antibiotics The doctor had me hooked up to a catheter for about 24 hours and I wasn’t allowed to discharge from the hospital until I pee’d on my own (TMI-lol).
Post-Op Day 1(Discharge Day):
On my Post-Op day I met with my surgical team and for some reason the youngest doctor that it was a good idea to poke me in my leg. Y’all when I tell you this doctor almost got punched, omg! My nurse even said that he was wrong for poking me in the thigh and she would have reacted too. The head orthopedic surgeon who is my doctor came to brief me about my surgery and he told me that my hip was worst than what the x-rays had shown. Basically, he compared everything to a 90 year old patient and I far from 90 especially with no real explanation to why my hip deteriorated.
Around noon that day I met with the hospital’s physical therapist to begin my walking journey. I was so scared to move on top of scared that I might fall. It felt so strange to be walking on something that was literally put into my body over 12 hours prior. My therapist encouraged me to focus and to have faith because he was there to hold me up!
I know that some people may be thinking that staying in the hospital for a day or two will seem like a strange break from reality but it was somewhat relaxing because the true reality of me returning home was about to start. My husband basically has to tackle mom/dad parenting responsibilities.
Recovery Days 2-7:
During the last 5 days I had to use my handy dandy walker. It is definitely a trip because it is basically my legs until my actually legs get stronger. I currently have a scar and bandages going from my hip to the upper half of my thigh. In traditional surgeries the incision would be more towards the side of the leg towards the butt aka the Posterior approach.
I do have a Physical Therapist that comes to my home to help build my muscles in my leg and to establish balance. She is totally awesome, she pushes me but not to the point where I feel like quitting. I feel that my driving force behind me getting better is to be able to hang out with my daughter because I can tell that she misses our routine, but she is also enjoying the one on one time with her daddy. My husband has had to step up and take the reigns of mommy and daddy.
Image: Check out my balance “Look mom no hands”
This surgery was probably one of the hardest that I’ve ever had to work at and be extra cautious. When my doctor told me that I should have gotten a new hip along time ago, especially since when he took the actual hip out he said it was worst than what was shown on the x-rays. I really wish that I could have gotten a picture to see what had been causing me so much pain over the years. He compared my hip to an 90 year old woman. Wow! Honestly, my advice to those who are having any type of pain whether it is your hip, back or knee check it out! It is important to take care of the issue before it cause further damage.
Also, research every procedure so that you don’t feel lost and so that you can be knowledgeable about your health.
Have you ever considered trading your 9-5 to becoming a wahm? It has to be really refreshing to stay at home in your yoga pants or your pjs. I love it!
When I decided to become a sahm/wahm it initially happened because we had just transitioned from Georgia to Miami. When we live in Georgia we had awesome childcare and I am hoping in the months to come my daughter will return to school.
Once we moved in and got settled , I was pondering the idea of returning to the corporate world or continuing my consulting from home. As you may have read in previous post, I am business consultant and I help start-ups or established establish a solid foundation for their businesses. I also develop and host networking events throughout the year.
Being a sahm/wahm definitely has its pros and cons, when I do get a chance to get any work done it is around my daughters schedule. Nap time is definitely the best time to get any work done. I even do my cooking and cleaning while she is asleep because things are a lot calmer then.
In 2014 I became fed up with the corporate world and felt that it was going to be my way or nor way! This may sound like a corporate take over but it’s not, I had my mind set on being my own boss and living my own rules. So I started by hosting networking events, expo(s), and having one on one consulting meetings with my awesome clients.
Business is a constant and sporadic industry, you must be a go getter because we live in a dog eat dog world. You have to decide if you are going to sink or swim.
If you are considering becoming a WAHM, then you need to consider these steps before you take that leap.
Save Save Save- You can’t really start too many businesses without the funds. Plus you need to make sure your personal funds. There is nothing wrong with keeping your 9-5 to fund your business.
Organize your life- Being home with your kids is definitely going to throw you off of your game, but you must figure out what methods will work for balancing the kids and the business. There are some wahm who send their little one’s to day school and that is definitely okay.
Have a creative space- A home office or space in your living room can definitely work to oversee what your children may be doing.
Being a wahm can definitely lead to endless possibilities, and him your children are home with you then you are saving a ton of money.
