What’s the perfect holiday gift for any woman in your life, the one that works for sisters, mothers, daughters, friends and romantic partners alike? A chic set of pajamas of course! And practically nowhere offers you the vast selection of styles that you’ll find at Mapalé.
The US brand’s Fall/Holiday Lounge and Sleepwear collection is an assorted mixture of shortie PJs, long-length lounge sets, chemises, sleep shirts, robes and rompers. There’s everything from casual basics to head-turning statement-makers with designs ranging from cutesy kitsch to refined elegance. The sizes are diverse too, ranging from S through to 2X/3X.
Naturally, such a large product range is grouped into smaller collections. There’s Life is Better in PJs, for example, which uses a chilled-out color palette of white, grey and baby pink. Karina Valencia, Account Executive at Mapalé, describes this range as the brand’s “flirty, sexy, cute pajamas.”
Here you’ll find lashings of subtly-sexy pink leopard print, plus tongue-in-cheek slogans such as ‘Donut Disturb’. This range also includes a standout set that features a grey crop top and brief with ruffled shoulders, a sheer lace reverse, and a cut-out that spans the width of your back.
The sister piece to this set is an off-shoulder romper, made from the same, soft grey jersey and with sheer lace inserts over the hips and arms. It, too, has a dramatic keyhole, which scoops all the way down to the small of the back. Both looks are unique and pretty, but also appear ultra-comfy. Mapalé certainly knows how to make gorgeous sleepwear you can actually sleep in.
The Let’s Get Cozy range comprises simpler styles that Valencia describes as, “our basic PJs – trendy and sexy [and] very comfortable.” Available in navy and ivory white, it includes another truly show-stopping piece, a crop top and shortie set with hip cut-outs that are partially filled with lace.
We also love the ivory romper edged in contrast lace because it features a relaxed yet curve-enhancing high-hip leg line. And the navy chemise from this range, with its crossover straps and lacy insert at the back, is quietly alluring.
Hot Holiday Gifts
Others ranges focus more specifically on holiday gifting, from wintery Nordic prints to lipstick kisses for Valentine’s Day. The camisole and lounge pants combo that features a sheer lace heart across the bust would make an ideal gift for a loved one. The drawstring joggers are slightly sporty, but also have lacy ankle cuffs and open sides that reach practically all the way up the leg. Speaking about Mapalé’s new collection, Valencia said, “being comfy never looked so sexy,” and this set perfectly illustrates that sentiment.

Armed with experience at start-ups, brand launches, merchandising and insights from working with Amazon’s Fashion Accelerator program, CURVE’s new Visitor Promotion Director, Kirsten Griffin, is poised to help brands and exhibitors have their best shows ever.
We caught up with Kirsten to learn more about her role at CURVE, her experience and what visitors to the shows can expect this summer in this new, candid interview:
Kirsten, you’ve been with CURVE since April of this year. Can you tell our readers your title and what you do at the show?
I’m the Visitor Promotion Director. I work with both the buyers and brands to insure they have a positive trade show experience
How did you hear about the opportunity and CURVE and what drew you to the show?
I meet Raphael Camp a year ago and we stayed in touch. Previously I had participated at CURVE on the exhibitor side so I was already familiar with the show. I was attracted to the opportunity presented – CURVE is a true leader in the lingerie industry and I admire that they are forward thinkers!

What’s it like working with the CURVE team?
It’s always interesting! We have a global perspective in our New York City office with a mix of all ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds. At any time you will hear multiple languages spoken, although French is most popular.
Could you talk about how your previous work background enhances what you do at CURVE?
My career has been predominantly on the branded side. I have enjoyed working with both start up companies to help launch their brands and existing brands looking to redefine where they fit in the marketplace and increase their profitability. Additionally, I have years of merchandising experience, so I understand how to put collections together and identify what the buyers need in their stores. This benefits the CURVE show as I am able to assist both the buyers and exhibitors in optimizing their time spent at the Curve show.

We’re especially interested in hearing about some of the work you did at Amazon.
I worked on the Essentialist brand which is part of Amazon’s Fashion Accelerator program. This is their private label exclusive brand program. The design, merchandising, and marketing is all data driven and based on SEO. This was very different approach to creating a collection from how I worked in the past. We would still follow the fashion trends, however for the most part the designs of the Essentialist collection were based on what the consumer wants.

We had a conversation last week about the show’s desire enhance the visitor experience. There were three things CURVE is aiming to do – inspire, educate and illuminate.
Yes, these are my three main goals for the upcoming shows! We want to :
Inspire – Our trend lounge will give buyers direction on what’s new and noteworthy
Educate – We have quite a few panels and discussions planned. Our key note opening speaker is a “not be be missed” seminar on inventory management, increasing sales, and improving gross margin. We also offer multiple Fit seminars, a discussion on Inclusivity in Marketing, and a Workshop on Retail factors effecting Customer Loyalty.
Illuminate – we love to discover new and talented young designers so I’m especially excited about our Lifestyle area.

What’s the one thing in the lingerie world that’s been a surprise to you?
The innerwear as outerwear trend continues to keep growing!!!
What are some events you’re looking forward to sharing with visitors this summer?
We are launching a new magazine for visitors with the most beautiful imagery!! I love Instagram, however there is something really nice about holding a gorgeous magazine in your hands and flipping through the pages… admiring gorgeous photographs…being inspired by stories and leaders in the industry…
Are there any brands you think our readers should put on their radar? If so, why?
There are soooo many, however a few of the standouts this season are:
ELLIPSE – We all work very hard and need our down time. The new Relax at Home collection has a special fabric that actually helps your muscles relax!
LARISSA KATE – We are a fan of sustainability and Larissa Kate is produced right here in New York City. Their pastel range of silks is so lux and pretty!
SIMONE PERELE – We really like their new sportline – its high performance with chic details of gold thread, mesh, and lace.
STUDIO PIA – Its ethically crafted organic silks with incredibly beautiful laces. As art lovers, we admire that the designs take references from the worlds of fine art and couture.
COSABELLA – Body positivity and inclusivity is something we feel strongly about. Their new Soire Confidence collection offers inclusive skin tones. Additionally, Cosabella has increased their size ranges in their Curvy collection.

If there’s only one thing you could say to someone to convince them to attend or exhibit at CURVE, what would that be?
For Visitors: CURVE is one stop shopping, whereby you can see existing vendors and discover new unknown ones. Plus enjoy activitations to get beautified and learn something new !
For Exhibitors: CURVE is the hub of industry! You can meet new buyers, network, and see trends first hand.

This season, the Lingerie Selection goes backs to its roots with an intimate event at the show’s studio in NYC’s Garment District. It’s the perfect backdrop for an exciting roster of lingerie brands which includes several newcomers and past exhibitors.
The Lingerie Selection’s cofounder Maggie Gillette joins us to give our readers the latest news on the Lingerie Selection which runs from August 5th-7th at 315 W 39th street, suite 800.

Maggie, could you give our readers an update on what brands are participating?
What makes this edition of TLS different from past shows? Why should buyers make the time to visit?
This season we’ve gone back to our roots and are doing an intimate season in our studio in the Garment District. We think buyers are going to love this relaxed format where they can sit back with a glass of champagne and see the latest from some of the most interesting designers around. Who wouldn’t like that?
Lingerie Selection = Something for Everyone!

This summer’s show has an impressive roster of brands. What categories are represented?
One of the great things is that we cover a large range of categories. We have brands who do incredibly luxe sleep and lounge, bridal, upscale basics, bedroom accessories like cuffs and eye masks, and, of course, simply stunning boudoir worthy lingerie. This season we also have several brands bringing beautiful resort and swim collections! There really is something for everyone.

We always love to have an event where buyers and designers are able to mingle in a more casual environment. As usual, there will be drinks and some extra time to look through The Lingerie Selection’s brands.

Finally, how do you hope buyers feel when they leave the show?
I think buyers are really going to leave this show inspired about the state of the industry. Buyers are going to see lines that are driven by creativity and innovation in design as well as function. These are the brands that are pushing boundaries and shaping the future of lingerie.

Feeling flirty? Fancy? Provocative and daring? Whatever mood you’re in, curve-friendly retailer Lady M Lingerie aims to have a style to suit it. And one that fits too, thanks to a focus on items that can be adjusted.
Based in the US, the brand was founded by Magali Croom and is run between her and her daughter, Tyrena Simms. I spoke to Magali about how she got started in the business, what goes into selecting products, and why comfort is just as important as style.
Can you tell our readers a little bit about how Lady M Lingerie got launched?
What people probably don’t know is that I started Lady M Lingerie over 6 years ago. But I was young and I had a lot to learn about the industry. It got to the point where I just shut it down. In the back of my mind I knew that I had to go back to the drawing board. So I did my homework, relaunched in July 2018, and am still doing my homework. There is always something to learn!
Why lingerie? And what inspired you to start your own store?
What inspired me was overhearing women’s conversations on the subject of being sexy. Listening to my friends talk about their body shape, their age, wearing lingerie and how it made them feel.
Women love lingerie. It can transform you. Make you feel sexy and powerful. We all know this. But come night, women usually take it off and put on something ‘comfortable’.
Women really want sexy and comfortable lingerie. Something they walk around in and go to sleep in. I started Lady M Lingerie because I want to give women that option.
Tell me more about the type of customer you’re trying to reach.
My target audience is mainly plus size, curvy women. When I first started Lady M Lingerie it was only for plus size women, and the majority of lingerie that I sell is still plus size. I started selling regular sizes just recently. My friends and family asked me for them – I figured, why limit myself?
I love the Ada bodysuit and Night Glow set! What’s your full list of criteria for choosing what to stock?
Picking which products I want to sell isn’t easy. For example, color. Have you ever looked at a piece of clothing and said: “I like it but I wish it was in a different color”? I will look at all the colors that are available and pick only the best ones.
The kind of support the piece gives also comes into play. Some women want chest support, others want tummy control. I also think about what areas a woman may want to show off. Let’s be real, most women like certain parts of their body better than other parts. I give my customers that choice.
Have any items stood out as bestsellers? What about general trends?
The Tyrena teddy is a bestseller, in white. A lot of my customers really love it. Also the Paris basque and Silky Blue robe. It seems that more and more women are not playing it safe by wearing black!
And to finish, if you had to pick three Lady M Lingerie pieces for yourself for the summer ahead, which would they be?
Tyrena, Affair and Wink. Wink is great for women who are smaller busted. And the open back would definitely catch attention. Affair to me is more conservative, but still has a hint of sexy. This is lingerie I can wear all day, like a nice summer dress.
Now Tyrena that I mentioned, some of my friends have ordered this and I got great feedback. The lace design gives it a sexy, smooth touch, and I like the fact that it has an adjustable back and shoulder straps for comfort.

This superstar has a laundry list of accolades in the fashion industry but is perhaps best known for winning the model’s competition in season 16 of Project Runway. Now Liris is using her star power to reach a greater audience with her message of self-belief.
In her book, Make the World Your Runway, Liris details her top-model secrets for everyday confidence and success. She applies the lessons learned on the runway to everyday life to help readers find confidence and success.
Liris’s partnership with Curvy Couture began back in late 2017 when the model sought out the brand at CURVEXPO. “I remember, she walked to our booth the very last day and asked to try on some bras because she was our sample size,” says Summer Beltran, social media manager for Curvy Couture. “I took photos on my phone to show the team and literally, the rest was history!”
Now, Liris is spilling her secrets—from why she decided to write this book in the first place to what she looks for when lingerie shopping. Read on for a glimpse behind the scenes of Make the World Your Runway.
Why did you write your book and what do you hope women learn from it?
When I was on Project Runway, the fans as well as aspiring models, loved my confidence and my modeling work that I felt it would be a great idea to write a book that connected the two worlds but for a bigger purpose. They inspired me to write it. It’s like modeling meets life-coaching because it’s model tips for everyday confidence and success. There are things that models use in their everyday lives and on the runway—from posture to poise under pressure to standing in your power to positivity and so much more. I expounded upon them so everyone could use them on the runway of life. I hope people take away increased confidence, deepened purpose, a new mindset, and excitement for what’s to come.
Can you share some advice about embracing body positivity and how women get started with a new way of thinking?
Well, first you must realize that everything starts in the mind. You can believe and speak positivity or negativity—the choice is YOURS. I choose positivity in all areas. I actually take the focus off my body and put it on me as an overall person. I fluctuate like most women. I accepted that I am an amazing person inside and out. My weight doesn’t dictate my character, my heart, my intelligence or my beauty. I remind myself of that if I start to get in my head. I am more than a number on a scale. Remember that everything starts with your mind—change your mind, change your life! Remember God doesn’t make any junk cause you are wonderfully made by Him and abandon the thought that everyone needs to be the same size or shape—that’s a lie. Imagine how boring the world would be if we were all the same!
What do you look for in your favorite lingerie?
Well, your favorite lingerie is usually what you wear the most. I look for great colors, good fit, durability and how seamless it goes on under clothing since I wear a lot of body-conscious styles.
Tell us about a favorite moment in your career.
There are too many to name, which is a blessing. As far as lately, I would say the work I have been doing with Curvy Couture and bridal retailer Maggie Sottero. It’s been amazing to receive comments from women of color about the fact that I’m representing in the lingerie and bridal worlds since we are hardly represented there. To know that I’m breaking barriers there feeds my soul.
