5 Tips for Finding Inspiration to Write

If you want to become a writer or perhaps you already love to write, but you desire to become a more regimented writer, chances are you may have trouble coming up with fresh ideas from time to time.

Below I’ve added 5 Tips for Finding Inspiration to Write that are sure to kickstart your imagination and get the creative juices flowing.

  1. Read, read, read! The best writers are often avid readers. Not only will reading prompt inspiration and story ideas, but being well read will naturally improve your writing style. Read the type of work you’d like to write; read the books whose author’s voice you admire.  If you’re a fiction lover who favors Stephen King, read as many of his books as possible. In doing so, you’ll naturally pick up elements of his style, and this is something he even wrote about in his memoir, On Writing, a book I highly recommend for any aspiring author.
  2. Keep a journal – Developing a daily journaling habit will not only get you into the habit of writing, but journaling has been proven to unlock creativity. Plus, there’s just something liberating about writing in the safety of a private journal where we know our writing won’t be judged. It allows us to write more freely and stay out of the ego, which tends to show up when we are writing for an audience. This is why developing a daily journaling habit is a great way to become a more regimented writer while also building confidence.
  3. Get out and people watch – Don’t know what to write about? Get outside and people watch! Sitting on a bench in a public park and watching people pass by is sure to spark some story ideas. But don’t just watch, imagine what could be going on in each person’s life as they pass. Use your imagination and open an ear to the conversations around you. Becoming an attentive observer is a great way to spark story ideas. Just be mindful not to invade the privacy of others in your pursuit to find inspiration!
  4. Keep a notepad with you at all times – Inspiration is everywhere, so keep a notepad with you for those moments when ideas strike without warning. If you have a notepad app on your phone, that’s a handy place to keep a running list of your thoughts since your phone is likely always with you. Just don’t convince yourself that you’ll remember! If you’re like me, you will receive many fresh ideas each day, so writing them down in one convenient place is a great way to find inspiration on days when you just can’t think of anything to write about. It’s like having a running list of writing prompts at your fingertips!
  5. Write every day – Think of writing as a muscle that strengthens with exercise, and exercise that muscle every day! The more you write, the more you will enjoy it, and over time you’ll find it’s easier to discover inspiration. When writing becomes a natural part of your day instead of a chore, it will eventually become second nature to you. Don’t think you have time to write each day? Start by setting aside just 20 minutes per day or commit to one page per day. As your writing regimen becomes more regulated, you may find you can set aside even more time for what you love.

I hope these five tips spark some inspiration in you, but ultimately, the best way to find inspiration is to sit down and write! In the words of Pablo Picasso, “Inspiration exists, but it has to find you working.”

Happy Summertime!!!

It’s been a hot one here in Arizona.. 117 degrees the other day when my hubby and I had an adventure on the lake when a monsoon “haboob” hit us.. Yes, that is a real word, look it up if it’s new to you.. kind of a funny word

Anyway, we made it back to our camp.. with a lot of paddling effort on our parts and a little help from our friends

And all was well…

Although unexpected as it hit soooo fast, it was a fun little adventure.

But I was thinking afterwards…

Life is meant to be an adventure, right?  It’s a journey of joy and pain and exploration and excitement and grief and peace and everything in between. Really, it’s a constant journey of expansion and contraction.

When life happens, sometimes it’s a surprise. It isn’t expected. It catches you off-guard, (lets say on the lake on a paddle board with 20-30 MPH winds) But, staying on the shoreline in case something happens… is that really living? If we are always anticipating the storm, do we ever really get the chance to play?

It just a choice..  on how to see it.. how you see life…

As an adventure…. An opportunity for growth and expansion…

Or

As a difficult challenge, a painful burden, something to protect yourself from…

Life is happening.. and … It’s summertime!!!

Get out there and LIVE life my friend.. in whatever way that is for you

Love, Light and Blessings:)  SDJ

PS: Tell me.. what are you doing for your summertime adventure? I’d love to hear. Share in the comments below and in the meantime, enjoy this video…. As you can see.. I love a little adventure https://sunnydawnjohnston.com/lifestyle/

Going Within – The Gift of July’s 7 Vibration

July contains one of my favorite numbers – the 7 Vibration. The number 7 is one of the most esoteric and mystical of all the numbers. Yes, each number vibration is multi-faceted and has a wide range of expression, much like musical notes and scales. The musical note C can have a low, mid or high tone, it can be sharp or flat, it can be played in a variety of ways that changes and enhances its signature sound. Numbers work the same way.

The 7 vibration is the explorer walking between two worlds: the physical and the spiritual. Its quest is to understand the unknown and unknowable. And at its core is a call to mastery of some kind. This month supports your personal journey to self-mastery.

And one of the best paths to self-mastery is self-awareness. And self-awareness requires going within. Connecting deeper with Source/Spirit also requires going within. Thus the primary theme for this July is Going Within.

How you choose to explore your inner world is up to you. There are so many ways you can do this.

My favorite ways to go within:

  • Spending quiet time in nature and allowing the peaceful spirit to infuse me. Often new insights bubble up to the surface.
  • Quiet walks, in nature or in my neighborhood. I view these as walking meditations.
  • Breathing and mindfulness practices.
  • There are so many types of meditation you can do. None have to be long hours om-ing in a lotus position either! You can listen to a guided meditation, have a silent meditation, repeat a mantra over and over.
  • Writing or journaling (although truthfully, I seldom journal, but I do write about things, tell stories that provide additional self-awareness for me)
  • Talking or dialoging with myself. I’ve done this pretty much most of my life. Often walking and talking. I think of it as journaling out-loud! When I hear myself say something and pay attention to the words I use and the emotion behind them, I gain so much understanding of how I think, feel and what I believe to be true or not true.

What are your favorite ways of going within? For July, make a commitment to do 1 or 2 of them on a regular basis. Daily if possible. You might be pleasantly surprised by the insights you receive and the shifts that begin to happen for you.

Along with Introspection (aka “going within”), other themes of the multi-faceted 7 vibration that are highlighted this July are: Wisdom and Mastery.

Inside of you there is a wise woman or sage aspect of you. You might think of it as your higher self. You have the ability to tap into this fount of wisdom at any time. Practice tapping into your internal wisdom keeper. Create a mental avatar to represent this aspect of you if it helps. Perhaps imagine that aspect of yourself as a Wizard like Gandalf, a Jedi Master like Yoda, or an enlightened being of some kind. Ask it how wisdom would handle a situation you are dealing with.

This month, in addition to the brilliant WWLD (What Would Love Do), add WWWMD (What Would Wise Me Do) and apply both Love and Wisdom to your situation. See what previously unthought-of of guidance arises.

Here are a few other attributes of the 7 vibration…

The Light Side of the 7: Trust, Discernment, Openness, Spirituality, Spiritual Growth, Mystical, Occult, Philosophy, Investigation, Intuition, Logical, Intellect, Learning, Science, Technology, Awakening, Uniting “Head” and “Heart”, Exploring and Understanding the Unknown.

You can think of the 7 vibration as The Dali Lama meets Sherlock Holms!

The Shadow Side of the 7 brings in the following elements to stir the pot: judgmental, moody, critical, argumentative, aloof, withdrawn, manipulative, lonely, living in your head, or stuck in your head.

The shadow 7 likes to question the heck out of everything in the pursuit of understanding why, why, why… why they said this, why they did that, why is this happening, why that didn’t work, why you didn’t get what you wanted, and so on.

The questioning aspect of the 7 becomes a disruptive and downward spiral, keeping you stuck in the past and preventing you from reaching acceptance of what is. Getting stuck in the unknowable “whys” blocks your ability to access wise choices to move you forward.

So instead of asking a fruitless series of why-why-why, ask your inner Wise One “What Would Wise Me Do?” And do that.

Public Service Announcement… Mercury is preparing to go retrograde

Mark your calendars now!

  • Mercury Pre-Retrograde Shadow begins on July 7th
  • Mercury Retrograde officially begins on July 26th through August 18th.
  • And then Mercury finishes playing with us in its Post-Retro Shadow, in effect from August 20th till September 2nd.

And yeah, Mercury’s retrograde shadow and full retrograde supports a slowdown period and going within. That slowdown continues through August. So go with the flow rather than try to swim upstream.

Maybe you really do need some lazy, peaceful, slower days this summer to help you get in touch with yourself and pay more attention to your own self-care and well-being!

Wishing you a wonderful July. And for those who celebrate it in the US, have a Happy and Safe 4th of July.

With Love and Appreciation,
Karen M. Winkelman

Love Is The Answer… The Gift of June’s 6 Vibration

May was a bit of a rough and unpredictable ride for many, me included. We said goodbye to a beloved companion, Spike, an orange Maine Coon cat, on the 8th. Although he was an old man in cat years (18+ years), he still had spunk in him. Hearts heavy, it took most of the month for our household (humans and kitties) to come to a new sense of normalcy.

That 5 vibration of change was showing up in all kinds of ways throughout May. My hope is June’s loving energy calms the waters down a bit!

June is a 6 vibration which is all about Love, Harmony, Responsibility, Acceptance, Community, Service, Beauty, Creativity, Peace and Money.

Love is always a big component of the 6 vibration. Especially love on a broader scale: family, community, humanity.

My guides told me that the theme this month is “Love is the Answer.”

The answer to what you might ask…

The answer to just about every question you have going on in your mind right now.

What does it mean “Love is the Answer?”

Simply, it is asking you to drop out of your head and into heart on issues and questions that are unsettling you and confusing you. The answer is not in your beautiful brain. The answer can be accessed through your heart and through applying love to the situation.

What do I mean by applying love to a situation?

Curiously part of May’s message is useful here: change your perspective. Instead of looking at the issue in your usual way, flip it around.

  • What part of you feels out of alignment with the situation?
  • Where are you attached to an outcome or expectation?
  • What part of you feels like you are getting a raw deal?
  • What part of you feels ignored, disrespected, or dismissed?

Then sit with that a moment. Become aware of what is it you need (emotionally, physically, or spiritually) to feel better about things? What can you do to show that part of you some love? Without having to have someone else do it for you!

As Sunny Dawn Johnston teaches, ask yourself: What Would Love Do?

If you are basing your well-being and happiness on what others will or won’t do for you, you are placing yourself in a miserable no-win zone. Show yourself some love. Your happiness does not depend on what others think, do or say.

Most acting out stems from a deep seated need for feeling loved and accepted/acceptable. At its heart, some of the harshest behavior is a cry for love, twisted by self-loathing and despair.

Love is the Answer.

Are you open to receive love?

Are you willing to love the “unlovable bits of you” that you judge as wrong, bad, broken, not enough?

Spiritual teacher, Matt Kahn, says “Whatever arises, love that.”

Give love to the pain, love to the state of lack you are in, love to every sticky situation and piece of confusion that drives you bananas.

Make it a game. Experiment. See what shifts if you start applying heaping doses of love to every situation in your life. And if that seems daunting, well pick 1 or 2 to immerse in love.

If someone else appears to be the bane of your existence, such as a family member, coworker, or friend, flip it around.

  • What might be going on with them?
  • What is the struggle really about?
  • Do you both need to be right?
  • What would love do in this situation?
  • How can you come from a place of love in this?

Drop into your heart space and ask.

Is it easy? No. It isn’t. You have to be willing to let go of your attachment to thinking of things in a specific way. Maybe there is no hard fast right or wrong. It could just be a case of different beliefs and points-of-view. And it could be misunderstanding and miscommunication leading to jockeying for the power position.

Here’s another flip it: go to the mirror.

What is this situation or person mirroring for you about you? It is often about something you dislike or judge about yourself… or fear you might secretly be like “Uncle Jim” or “Aunt Agnes” and that’s just unacceptable. So you reject that aspect of yourself. You withdraw your love or willingness to love that part of you. And your outside world starts reflecting more of that back at you. Yuck.

And again, the answer is love.

How can you love that part of you? How can you give love to the shame, the anger, the rigid beliefs, and the critical voice in your head?

Practice giving and showing love to the parts of you that you dislike. Yeah. Really.

Make it a daily practice. Instead of engaging these upstarts with resistance or hostility, try sending love to those bits of you that make you feel uncomfortable or less-than.  Notice what starts to happen, both in your inner world and your outer world.

One way to show yourself and a situation love is to accept it “as is.”

When you can accept it, you are no longer fighting it. (Note: acceptance is not, I repeat, is NOT approval!) Acceptance just says you acknowledge this is what is. Even if it isn’t what you want or the way you want it, it still is whatever it is; it still happened in whatever way it happened. You can’t change that. Stop trying!

When you reach acceptance, you regain power. You can now diffuse the resistance and the attachment to what you want it to be. This is not giving up. This is coming to presence, to the place where you can now choose a different path forward.

Part of June’s energy will be drawing your attention to where you are out of alignment with the energy of love. This is a gift, believe it or not! It shines a spotlight on these areas so you can become aware of it and begin to shift it.

Are you willing to Love what arises? Are you willing to show more love to yourself and especially the less than favorable aspects of you?

I call on Archangel Chamuel to assist you (and me!) in this process. And I invite you to request a daily dose of love and acceptance from Archangel Chamuel as well!

Other areas that might light up this month:

If you are a people pleaser or over-giver, you may experience people being more demanding so you can learn to stop a behavior that undermines your self-esteem and begin to show yourself more love and respect.

If you take responsibility for everything, you might experience people blaming you for their problems or people wanting you to take on even more responsibility.

This is a wakeup call from the Universe, showing you that you need boundaries and nudging you to say enough is enough!

This month I invite you to explore giving and receiving more love in your life. Shower yourself with small acts of love.

Look at ways to bring more beauty, creativity and peace into your life.

Every little bit helps. Even if they are small steps, small gestures, it will make a difference.

Create a beautiful month filled with love, peace and harmony!

With Love and Appreciation,
Karen

I always love the energy of the full moon – well … almost always. Sometime it gets a bit intense, which is why I ask people that tune into moon energy to let me know, in advance …  what to be mindful of. I’m one of those types of people that would rather have awareness ahead of time … than not … so … Here is some great info for this month’s FULL MOON by Melissa Corter – Enjoy – SDJ

May 29th 2018 Full Moon in Sagittarius

Sometimes contrast is necessary to bring forth new insight … this Full Moon has an overtone of competition, yet this does not suggest you need to partake in the experiences. A Full Moon represents the Sun opposite the Moon, contrast in nature, and this month we can expect that theme to continue. There may also be an increased interest in spiritual matters, experiences, and philosophies. Minds and hearts may be more open at this time, those who hold emotional space for others will contribute to this powerful energy if it is done with love as the key intention. Leave an agenda and ego out of the equation and you will witness magic unfold for many.

The energy of Sagittarius can encourage people to transcend limiting beliefs and open up to new ideas and inspiration. The Full Moon always reveals deep subconscious connections if we are willing to be present and awake to them. This combination can feel incredible to those who are perpetual seekers, always expanding and asking for more of life to uncoil in miraculous ways.

Sagittarius is a fire sign, naturally passionate, driven, and dynamic. As with any element, be mindful of the shadow side of the fire; destruction and burning bridges cannot always be undone. More the reason to keep the competitive edge in check if you tend to like a challenge, be mindful of not taking it to far. A little spark can go a long way, discover what fuels you and stay clear on all that dampens your energy as well. Nurture the fire element in healthy ways with passion, excitement and joy.

The May Full Moon is also known as the Full Flower Moon. Depending on the tribe, May’s Full Moon was called the Full Flower Moon as well as Mother’s Moon, Milk Moon, and Corn Planting Moon. The May Moon marked a time of increasing fertility with temperatures warm enough for safely bearing young, a near end to late frosts, and plants in bloom.

(~ Farmers Almanac)

There is a practical nature to this Full Moon and this will serve those who want to see the bigger picture and are determined to set and meet goals. This side of this fire sign can show great strength and courage, while maintaining the ability to transcend the mind and keep one foot on the ground. Be aware of the desire to get caught up in emotion, pull back and redirect energy and attention to service.

Sagittarius has an edge of justice, a desire to make things right. This can stir the pot if too much ego is added to the mix. The contrast of Sagittarius dances between the rebel or the one who always complies … usually a very clear boundary, yet this Full Moon can blur the lines and cause an inner conflict. Self awareness and clarity can reduce the conflict.

“Failure is the condiment that gives success its flavor.”
—Truman Capote

Tips for May 29th Full Moon in Sagittarius:

Ignite your inner fire! What moves you and gets you motivated? Do you need a little struggle to get your attention, or is it possible to declare what you want to manifest in this life from excitement instead of need? This is a time to evaluate goals, question beliefs, and open up to your higher knowing.

Utilize this energy to reduce the inner chatter and internal conflicts. Focus on the big picture while being open to the small present moment steps. A balance between thinking big and thinking practically. Stay out of the drama from those who are trying to find their groove in managing their own contrast. Open your arms and heart to lovingly invite the ones who are ready to discover their light.

Ways you can allow this Full Moon to support you:

  1. Find out when the moon rise is in your city by going here: http://www.timeanddate.com/moon/
  2. Find a place where you can see or sense the energy of the full moon. Preferably a comfortable position with the moon in sight. If you can sit outside, on the earth for this exercise you may notice a larger shift.
  3. Gather a lighter/matches, a safe burning bowl, and a notebook and pen.
  4. Ask your spirit to bring forth an area, project, or goal that you wish to manifest. With closed eyes, focus on your breath, breathing slowly and deeply. Tune into your body and ask what it needs to release any emotional blockages or barriers to receiving or manifesting your intention.
  5. Spend five minutes free writing anything that comes to surface, even if it does not make any logical sense. Notice if any thoughts, feelings, or awareness floats into the mind. If nothing arrives, stay present, and engage your breath, pulling in more breath and breathing deeper while asking again.
  6. Once you feel complete, light the papers on fire in your burning bowl. As you watch the fire element burn the paper, hold an intention in your heart that the energy of the blockages or barrier is dissolving with ease.
  7. Repeat this process over the course of three days…. This will help clarify and bring forth new insights to help you reach deeper layers each time you participate in this experience.

**Reminder: each full moon will impact you for up to 3 days prior to the full moon and 3 days after the full moon.

Full moons are always powerful times for releasing and letting go. Try creating your own ceremony or honoring of this time to embrace the energy that this time has to help you create space in your life for what you truly desire. As always remember, you are not alone in experiencing this phase, be mindful of this when encountering others over these next few days. Send them love as they are also shining a light on themselves and may be extra sensitive during this time. The next full moon is in the sign of Capricorn on June 28th and is known as the Full Strawberry Moon.

Change Your Perspective … the Gift of May’s 5 Vibration

May ushers in the season for change and adventure, thanks to the fabulous 5 vibration. The number 5 pokes and teases and playfully encourages you to change things up a bit. If you’re feeling stuck in a rut, this month’s energy can help you break free. It will require that you make a change of some kind. Big or small.

My guides tell me that the major theme for this May is “Change your perspective.” You can even change your life by changing your perspective! Really!

In numerology, May is a 5 vibration month. The number 5 resonates with the following characteristics: change, adaptability, flexibility, versatility, dramatic, adventurous, exciting, energetic, interesting, flamboyant, physical, enthusiastic, freethinking, futuristic, humorous, curious, free-spirited, creative, inventive, freedom, travel, and communication of all kinds.

Remember, we are in a 2 vibration year for 2018. So it makes sense that the theme would be tied to seeing things from a different perspective. (Change is a big part of the 5 vibration and a major component of the 2 vibration is duality and different points of view, different perspectives).

Along with perspectives and points of view, the 2 vibration is also focused on relationships, collaboration, partnerships, balance and peace. So you can expect the 5 vibration of May will be stirring the pot to shake things up a bit in one or more of these areas.

The 5 wants to play, have an adventure, travel, have more romance, and feel free and unencumbered. The 5 energy teaches you flexibility and adaptability.

The 5 vibration can “go squirrel” and chase down one bright shiny object after another. If you are bored, uncertain or scared of whatever your next step is to be, well the 5 vibration may take you down one rabbit hole after the other to distract you from staying on task and on target.

Of course your personal numerology will factor into this, but generally speaking, for all of May pay attention to what needs to change in the following areas:

  • Your relationships (personal and professional)
  • The way you show up for yourself
  • Expectations (What beliefs and outcomes are you attached to, what are you expecting from others, or yourself, that frustrates the crap outta you because it never seems to work out the way you wanted or hoped it would?!)
  • Your beliefs and view of the world and how it works (or doesn’t)
  • Your relationship with yourself, your body, your self-expression, your creativity, your spirit

Awareness is great. Identify what no longer feels like a good fit for you and then make a plan to change it. Sometimes changing how you react and interact in these areas will shift the whole thing back into alignment.

Other times, a more major change is required, such as walking away from a harsh relationship, leaving a soul-sucking job, or letting go of something or someone that isn’t working out no matter how much effort you put into it.

Changing your perspective requires changing the way you see things and being open to different possibilities. Looking at things with “fresh” eyes.

When you always view things or believe things to be a certain way, it’s sort of like looking through a tiny hole in a piece of paper and believing that what you see is all that exists. If you put down the paper and looked out a large window, you now have a broader perspective of what is out there. And if you were flying on the back of a huge Eagle, you’d see the world in new and wondrous ways. And if you were orbiting the Earth in the Space Station, you’d let go of many of your fixed beliefs and begin to open to the miracles that are present every moment of every day.

It’s all in your perspective. Change your perspective, change your life. Simple. Ahh, yes, simple, and not always so easy to do.

A shift in your perspective could also reveal the truth to what is holding you back or keeping feeling stuck and confused. And being willing to let go of it having to be a certain way could open the door to the clarity and solution you seek.

One way you can playfully start shifting your perspective is to invite childlike wonder into your life to help you see things in a different way and look at familiar objects as if seeing them for the first time. I like doing this in nature. It is very nurturing and expansive!  You begin to see things you never realized were there before as you look closely at petals of a flower or blades of grass. It starts to fill you with wonder and delight.

Each change you make from your normal routine starts opening new possibilities for you. Play with going to work a different way, switch up the order of your daily rituals, and experiment with eating at different restaurants or ordering foods you’ve not tasted before.

I invite you to change your perspective on one thing in your life. Then notice what happens!

In addition to changing your perspective and opening up to other points of view, there might be a couple of other changes brewing in your life.  Your Soul might be whispering to you, inspiring you to make changes that are in alignment with your spirit and resonates with your soul.

So … What change or changes do you feel you need to make?

What changes is your heart calling you to make?

What changes will slide you back into alignment with your authentic self?

Once you identify something that you’d like to change, use the power of curiosity (another 5 vibration trait) to help you get clarity. I like to ask one or more of these illuminating questions:

  • “I wonder why I feel this way …”
  • “I wonder what this might really be about …”
  • “I wonder what my life would be like if I make this change …”
  • “I wonder what this might be trying to teach me …”
  • “I wonder why I am still holding on to this … what is it I want from this in order to be willing to finally let it go …

These wonderings are not to be answered by your beautiful and logical brain! Instead, you allow intuition, hunches and gut feelings to fill in some of the blanks and notice what ideas pop into your mind, perhaps prompted by a song, or something you read or see, that sheds new light on the old situation.

Now let’s take a brief look at the flip side of the fabulous 5

The shadow-side of the 5 Vibration includes the following:

  • Boredom, restlessness, and jealousy
  • Distractions, bright-shiny-object syndrome, fickleness and inability to focus
  • Impulsiveness, being temperamental and throwing your hands in the air and walking away from everything
  • And because we’re in a 2-year, impatience, over-sensitivity, illusion and confusion are also potential shadow dancers

Before throwing a tantrum or tossing in the towel, take a few centering breaths and do an internal check-in to see what is really going on. What change might you require, what tweaks could you do to begin restoring your balance and sense of direction again … and adding fun to the mix helps with this too!

Remember, Change is how the Universe and everything in it grows and evolves. Take inventory … do an internal and external check on what needs to change in order for you to enjoy your life more and feel better about yourself.

Play more, laugh more, get creative, and practice seeing things and approaching things from a different perspective. Go on an adventure!

Create a month that delights you!

With love and appreciation for you,

I always love the energy of the full moon – well … almost always. Sometime it gets a bit intense, which is why I ask people that tune into moon energy to let me know, in advance …  what to be mindful of. I’m one of those types of people that would rather have awareness ahead of time … than not, so … Here is some great info for this month’s FULL MOON by Melissa Corter – Enjoy – SDJ

April 29, 2018 Full Moon in Scorpio

This potent Full Moon brings transformation like no other … Scorpio energy unveiling new energy arising to make its way forth into the world, and with any new door opening this energy will also highlight the perfect doors to close. Grounding practices will become an anchor for you to find peace in. A Scorpio moon often ignites deep and intense emotion; see beyond the illusion and commit to your personal truth.

Scorpio energy also is detoxifying, helping to cleanse deep ancestral patterns, as well as the physical organs in the body. Move out stuck or old energy, there is no need to analyze it in order to release it; allow the guidance of the moon to support you in this process. Spending time around water as well to facilitate deeper healing and releasing.

Water signs such as Scorpio feel very deeply; it is challenging to keep things superficial during this time. There may be a theme of conversations, reactions, and experiences pulling and rooting you into more subterranean occurrences. This is an opportunity to venture into the unknown, consciously choosing to excavate stagnant beliefs for transformation. As with any metaphorical death, (clearing old patterns) there may be a tendency to cling to the dated way of being at first, then your spirit will bring possibility closer. This provides you with a taste of the unknown for you to see the light and begin cultivating a sense of safety in it all.

April’s Full Moon, the Full Pink Moon, heralds the appearance of the “moss pink,” or wild ground phlox, one of the first spring flowers. It is also known as the Sprouting Grass Moon, the Egg Moon, and the Fish Moon.

(Farmers Almanac)

Scorpio energy can also bring up feelings and perspectives around death and rebirth and sexuality and intimacy. Challenge your beliefs, question it and ask if it is still in alignment for who you are becoming. Do not get caught in the mental trap of confusion if the post shadow of Mercury Retrograde is still showing lingering elements of the past; this too signifies additional healing and releasing.

Scorpio can shine a light on power and control; moments to see previously concealed areas of power struggles and the wisdom to observe and release them. Become the witness … this may feel challenging since the deeply felt emotions of Scorpio mixed with residual Mercury might compete for your attention. Remain neutral and step back; trust in the truth to once again challenge the illusion. There is always available light, wisdom, and grace even if in the moment you feel alone on taking this path. That too is the illusion, the energy of this moon can feel ‘lonely”, yet this falsity is to help you recognize when it is time to retreat and release the psychic impressions of energy that are muddling your own feelings. Spend time reflecting and avoid isolation, always finding the harmony and balance this moon has to offer you

“It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare, it is because we do not dare that they are difficult.”

~ Seneca

Tips for April 29th Full Moon in Scorpio:

Water is the perfect companion for this April Full Moon in Scorpio. Walking by the water in peace, spending time in reflection and contemplation can assist in releasing and honoring the depth of emotion present in this time. Forgiveness may be called upon to release yourself from holding grudges or old energetic ties that feel depleting, especially to the empaths, clairsentients, and deeply feeling souls. Let yourself feel and at the same time, do not enroll in the trick of the ego, feeling of separation, or lack. This is stagnant energy coming up, calling to you to see the deception and to let it leave.

This precious Moon can be misunderstood, yet it truly is a magical time of transformation and a metaphorical death of the old self. This is the perfect partner to Mercury Retrograde; and although Mercury Retrograde has ended, its shadow reminds us to complete the process, see it though to the end and embrace the clean slate of this new juncture.

  3. If you can, find a body of water to sit near, or bring a bowl or cup of water with you. Close your eyes and tune into your body. Ask what it needs to release in the clearing and detoxification process of the Full Moon.
  4. Notice if any thoughts, feelings, or awareness floats into the mind. Write anything down that surfaces. If nothing arrives, stay present, and engage your breath, pulling in more breath and breathing deeper while asking again.
  5. Now ask, “how can I help let this go” and repeat the same process, writing down anything that comes to mind.
  6. Journal anything that comes up, spending a few minutes in silence listening and feeling.
  7. Tear up your paper…. And soak it in the water. Leave the wet paper out in the moon light all night long, and the next day you may burn it once it has dried. Notice if anything shifted in the night while you were sleeping.

The next full moon is in the sign of Sagittarius on May 29th and is known as the Full Flower Moon.

Sunny Dawn Johnston by Sunny Dawn Johnston - 3M ago

Have you ever considered your home has a personality? It’s a living energy and sometimes your space needs a little self-care. Consider all the different emotions that run through our homes each day!
Over the years, I have cleared houses that had everything from a death in the home, an illness, hoarding, bankruptcy, divorce, life changes, career changes, and of course, homes with unsettled spirits. When we have all this life happening, the space we live in does absorb all those emotions and energy, and I have learned over the years … when we take the time to clear that space it can make a huge difference in our daily lives.

Clearing energy in our space can help improve so many pieces of life. My clients report everything from new opportunities, sleeping better, less arguments, calmer more peaceful feelings, motivation to get off that couch, children sleep better, clearer minds and thoughts, and so much more!

Let talk about spring cleaning. This is a great time of year to clear your home or living space, and even your work space!
First, some basic ideas to clear your space: just a simple clearing of clutter and opening the windows, vacuum, dust, straighten up, de-clutter of course. The basics of a good deep house cleaning is the same basis of what I do when I clear homes. We want to open space up and create more light.

When we look at the energetic spring cleaning, I will walk you through a few fun ways to get that energy clean and clear.

Walk outside and stand in front of your home.
What does it feel like? Is it a happy home? Does it look happy? You can ask out loud, or in your mind, what would your house like to happen to feel better? Then simply put your hand on your heart and listen. Sometimes those things take a little time to create, but just let your home know you are working on it!

Walk in to the middle of your space
As you stand in the middle of your home, how do you feel in your body? What I love about clearing spaces is our homes are a reflection of what is going on inside of us!
Some days when I am processing or working through a challenge, I can look around and see all my clutter or piles … and then once I move through it, all of a sudden those piles are gone! I will pay attention to where my body is being pulled in one direction or another. I will ask my Spirit to show me the space that needs to be cleared first. Many times, I am brought to the lowest floor of the home and when I walk into the basement, for example, I will feel a dense or heavy energy on that floor.

So what do we do with that energy?

Transmutation: For this exercise use your imagination, unless you can actually see the energy, I would also recommend feeling the energy. Pick a shape that energy is showing up as, and if you are able, see it as a dense color—I typically see it as a grey blob—but it can show up as anything that works for you.
Once you have your energy shape and color, I want you to find the light within that shape. Sometimes that little bit of light is teeny tiny, but you will find it! No matter how dark the energy is, it always has a bit of light!
NOW, from your heart I want you to send a beautiful vibrant rainbow straight into that little bit of light and ask Spirit to transmute that energy from the inside out! I keep it going until that dense energy just melts away. Once that energy has melted away, fill that space up with big bright rainbow! Always replenish any energy you clear away!

Fill with Love: I know Sunny uses this as well! Simply stand in the middle of your home and radiate a beautiful pure love to the entire home. I like to walk through the space and do this. I open all the closets, under the beds, cupboards, stove, and the washer and dryer—anything that can be opened. I fill the space with as much love as I can imagine! I also allow that energy to stream out the windows and into the streets and entire town that I live in and just keep spreading that love as far as you can imagine!

Have a conversation: Remember how I said our homes have personalities? Well, they also have a voice. When I sit quietly in my home, or take a walk through my home, I keep asking: what can I do to improve the energy for you? Sometimes I feel the answer through my body—a knowing that a room would like a new color, or even just to move furniture around a little bit to shift the energy. Talk to your home and start to build a relationship with it so you can learn how to keep that space clear and loving for yourself!
Space clearing can be a valuable tool and we have many tools to assist us with the clearing process.

I truly believe that writing can heal our hearts … Even if you never share your writing, the release of the energy and emotion within your body can be truly life saving. So, for those of you that are interested in sharing your story in a bigger way, this blog, The Writing Nook, is for you. And, for those of you that just want to heal and release your story, this blog is for you too … For those of you that don’t know if writing is for you or not, I’m sure you’ll find something in here to resonate with as well. Enjoy … and please … I’d love to hear what your thoughts are in the comments below. Can you relate? Let us know what you think – Blessings SDJ

Finding Connection as a Writer

Writing is often an act of solidarity, but that can be a lonely road, and it doesn’t have to be that way. Many writers find they do their best writing in quiet without distraction, but what about time spent outside of writing? Wouldn’t it be nice to connect with others on a similar journey? To know that you’re not alone in your craft?

There are many ways writers can feel connected, and below I’ve added three ideas you can utilize to find a connection with other writers at any level of your writing journey.

  1. Join online writing groups. With the explosion of social media, it’s easier now more than ever to connect with writers from all across the globe. Platforms like Goodreads and Facebook offer hundreds, if not thousands, of groups for writers from all genres. You can easily find these groups by adding your preferred type of writing into the search bar and clicking on the “groups” tab at the top of the page. Read the descriptions of each and narrow down the groups you’d like to join. Once you’re in, I encourage you to interact. I know it can be intimidating, especially for us introverts, but remember, the goal here is connection, and these are the very people who could potentially become beta readers for a future project or part of your book launch team.
  1. Connect at a Meetup event. A simple search on Meetup.com will usually result in many local writing groups in your area. Perhaps you enjoy poetry; you’ll likely find several poetry groups near you, and if not, then there are usually monthly poetry readings you could attend. Let’s say you consider yourself more of a spiritual writer. While there may not be a group specifically for spiritual writers in your area (although there very well could be), you’ll usually find many spirit-led groups on Meetup. Once you’re there and you begin making connections, I’d be willing to bet you’ll find other writers within the group.
  1. Attend a writer’s retreat. Often when we’re in our everyday environment, it’s difficult to find the time for dedicated writing and learning new skills to hone our craft. Why not get away and immerse yourself in a weekend of writing, learning and connecting with other writers and influencers who can take your goals to the next level? That’s one reason why I LOVE retreats and make it a point to attend at least one each year. Not only are they a nice way to do something for yourself and take a step towards the fruition of your dreams, but the connections made at retreats often lead to lifelong friendships and future collaborations. In my experience, nothing moves my growth forward faster than a full weekend of focus outside of my everyday environment.

With any of the above options, I’d encourage you to take some time to find a few that resonate with you and begin there. Be mindful not to spread yourself too thin or you won’t have time for the task at hand, which is writing! However, joining a few online writing groups and perhaps having a local group to attend on a monthly basis might bring you just the connection you’re looking for.

If you like the idea of traveling to a writer’s retreat to spend a full weekend immersed in writing, relaxation and fun, then I invite you to check out our upcoming Write in Paradise Retreat 2018 that I’m co-facilitating with Sunny in Islamorada, Florida this May. The retreat is open to writers of all levels, and we only have a few spots left! Is one for YOU? Find out here.
