1. Put your most-used items on the truck last

This’ll make it easier to find things you absolutely need. They won’t get missed under loads of other boxes and they’ll seriously come in handy in the likely event that you’ll be too tired to get things organized on the day of a move.

2. Pack an overnight bag

Essentials like toothpaste, dish soap, and lotion are a pain to find when they’re packed with a bunch of other items. This will make it easy to get through the next day or so.

3. Go a step further and pack a few boxes with a week's worth of supplies

Because no one really unpacks everything on moving day, and if you’re a procrastinator (no judgment!), it’s unlikely that you’ll unpack everything within the week. Check out our informational post on what and how to pack an essentials box for every room of the house

4. Use garbage bags to pack your closet

This moving day tip is a must for large closets. Just slip a garbage bag over a group of hanging clothes. Then tie the bag up to keep the hangers secure. It’s that easy!

5. Label! Label! Label!

This is the key moving day tip to keeping your sanity when you start to pack. And be sure to pack like things. No mixing! It’ll make your life easier in the long run.

6. Place liquids in plastic bags

If they spill, at least they won’t be all over everything else.

7. Do laundry a day or two before moving

This way, on move-in day, you can easily (and neatly) put your clothing in dresser drawers.

8. Choose the right moving day

Moving on a Saturday can get tricky, especially if you are moving to an urban area. Instead, try moving during a weekday. It’ll be easier to move around—and find parking—when most residents aren’t at home.

9. Find a suitable moving company

First, make sure you do some research and check out the moving company’s reviews. Then, we suggest giving the company a call versus just getting a quote online. A positive phone call experience is a good indicator of whether or not the company puts the customers needs first. Plus, it’s easiest to find out whether or not they’re flexible or a good fit for your need. Here’s a helpful blog post on what to ask professional movers before you hire them.

10. Forget mass-packing, instead pack little by little

Over the course of a month (or even earlier), you should begin to pack your home. Dedicate weekends or certain weekdays to tackling a particular room, out-of-season clothing—or just a set of cabinets. By breaking up packing responsibilities, you won’t feel overwhelmed. Calendaring pre-packing responsibilities will help you stay on track, too.

11. Solicit friends to pack, versus move-in

Hiring professional movers take the heavy lifting off of your plate and your friends are more likely to agree to help pack versus move. It’s much less strenuous, and still very helpful to you. Plus, if you throw in pizza—they’re very unlikely to say know. (Or is that just us?)

12. Forget tape and boxes

Instead, rent Smart Bins which are plastic moving boxes. They don’t require tape and they hold much more weight than traditional cardboard boxes. Plus, plastic moving boxes are free when you move with Smart Price Moving. Check out this blog about why plastic moving boxes are better than cardboard boxes for moving

13. Schedule disconnect times

Most companies will let you schedule well in advance, so it’s easy to mark this off of your master to-do list early.

14. If you’re renting, take photos

You’ll want to do this after you move out of your old home and before you move into your new home. Take care to take photos of any outstanding dings or damage, and be sure to bring it up to the landlord. This will prevent any undue charges.

15. Stack dishes vertically

It’s much safer when transporting. You can also use your (massive!) supply of plastic grocery bags to create additional padding.

16. Snap pictures when disassembling furniture

This will make it easier to put things together if you’re moving on your own. After you break down your furniture, place corresponding nuts, bolts, and nails in clearly labeled zip lock bags.

The Sanity-Saving Moving Tip You Need to Know

If we had a quarter for everytime someone said that they’d be unpacked within a couple of days, but really fully unpacked weeks later, we’d be rich. Packing in and of itself is time-consuming and oftentimes stressful. When it comes to moving day, you can pretty much guarantee that you’ll be too tired to unpack all of your belongings that same day. For this, most people suggest packing an “overnight” box. Something that will get you through a day or two of living out of boxes. But, if you’re honest, it’ll take you much longer than a day or two to unpack your entire home. In fact, you probably won’t unpack much that entire week. This is why today's moving tip is to pack an “essentials” box for each room in the house.

Trust us, your “essentials” box will be a lifesaver—and can even last you an entire month for those who are serious procrastinators. So what rooms should you create an “essentials” box for? First, all of the main rooms—think kitchen, living room, bathroom, and bedroom. Some “essential boxes” will be larger than others. Just remember, that an “essentials” box only includes absolute necessities. A box that is too large may feel overwhelming.

Moving Tip: Kitchen Essentials Box

This box is the key to not eating takeout for an entire month! This box will probably be your largest. You’ll want to include items that help you cook as well as kitchen pantry go-tos. Here’s the list for a kitchen essentials moving box:

  • 2 or 3 pots that you use frequently, like a frying pan, medium-sized pot and TK
  • Place settings: plate, bowl, spoon, fork and knife (One set for each household member)
  • Chef’s knives—skip the block and wrap just 1 or 2
  • Dish soap and sponge
  • Pasta, rice and some canned goods
Moving Tip: Bathroom Essentials Box

Try not to forget anything with this box, as your essentials are actually your essentials. This box is really dependent on your specific needs, but here’s a general list to go by:

  • Toothpaste, toothbrush, face wash, lotion, body wash, bath sponge, shampoo and conditioner
  • Shower curtain and hooks
  • Toilet paper
  • Prescription medication
  • Makeup basics
  • Mini first aid kit
Moving Tip: Bedroom Essentials Box

Moving day is draining physically and mentally. You’ll want to ensure that you’ll have a good night’s rest by thinking ahead and building this quick essentials box for the bedroom:

  • Sheet set
  • Quilt
  • Pillows
  • Nightlight (for the kids)
Moving Tip: General “Essentials” Box

This should be one of your smallest boxes, that holds a mishmash of things you’ll need, for the living room and throughout the house.

  • Remote controls (Take it from us, keeping track of these from the very beginning will save yourself a major headache.)
  • Batteries
  • Light bulbs
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • Extension cord/surge protector

With essentials boxes ready for each room, you can also skip the frantic searching for things like the light bulbs or the first aid kit. You won’t have to worry about getting everything unpacked right away and can instead start to enjoy your new place right away!

It's time to stop using cardboard boxes when moving.

When you think of moving, what comes to mind? A lot of hard work? Loads of cardboard boxes? Typically, when people think of moving, nothing positive comes to mind until after the move occurs. But, if you hired movers, your entire outlook would change. In fact, we suspect you’d wonder why you haven’t hired professional movers in the past. Professional movers are surprisingly affordable and a huge help when moving into a new home. Still, many moving companies are plagued with one not-so-convenient supply: cardboard boxes.

Reusable Plastic Moving Boxes Rent Them or Get Them for Free When you Move With Us

Oftentimes, professional moving services will require clients to use (and sometimes provide their own) moving supplies like cardboard boxes and tape. That’s just inefficient and wasteful. It’s why we use Smart Moving Bins, which are our reusable plastic moving boxes. They’re a huge asset to our team because they make moving so much easier (yes, easier!) for our clients and professional packers and movers. Here are four reasons why plastic reusable moving boxes are so much better than cardboard boxes.

1. Plastic Moving Boxes are Sturdier and Require No Additional Supplies

Unlike when you move with cardboard boxes, you won’t have to worry about moving on a rainy day with plastic moving bins. They’re water resistant and close tightly. You also don’t need to worry about buying additional moving supplies. These reusable moving boxes require no additional building and tape is not required.

2. Plastic Moving Boxes Stack Easily

When stacked on a rolling dolly, moving instantly becomes so much easier. You can stack the Smart Moving Bins high on top of each other and eliminate additional trips back and forth from the moving truck. They also nest neatly into each other when empty. This saves space for when you are finished with your move. (When you rent our reusable moving bins we pick them up for you.)

3. They Produce Less Waste, Making Them Eco-Friendly

Because our plastic moving boxes can be reused 100s of times, our company and our customers produce far less waste than traditional movers and moving methods. Using our Smart Price Moving Bins are far more sustainable, especially when most cardboard boxes don’t end up in the recycling bin either.

4. Get FREE Plastic Moving Boxes from a Top-rated Local Moving Company

When you move with us, you will automatically enjoy the benefits of our reusable plastic boxes. Check out our local moving company services then get a moving quote. We are ready to service all types of movers and have rave reviews.

This is the college advice you need to know before you move into your new dorm room. With these five important steps, you'll ensure that moving into your freshman dorm room is exciting, smooth and void of any major hiccups. Welcome to college!

1. Check with the School to See what is Allowed and What is Not Allowed

Some colleges and universities allow freshmen to bring cars while other campuses prohibit it. The same goes for other pleasantries you’re used to, like microwaves and refrigerators. Before you spend money on products like these, be sure that your school allows it.

2. Lists! Lists! Lists!

Create a college checklist for everything. Here are a few good ones: Dormify college checklist, Bed Bath & Beyond college checklist and Target college checklist.  This is the best thing you can do to ensure that you are prepared for your first semester in college. Your college checklist should include things like absolute essentials (towels, comforters, and toiletries) as well as other necessary items to make your college dorm feel more like home (mini refrigerator, microwave, food).

3. PURGE: Get Rid of Stuff and Donate

The beginning of your college journey is the perfect time to purge. What are the items that you already have that you absolutely must take and what are the items that you can leave at home or—even better—toss or donate? Clothing is a great place to start. Your dorm room is probably not as spacious as you’d think. So only taking part of your wardrobe makes more sense. You should only bring the part of the wardrobe you’ll use before you come back home. So when you first get to school only bring your summer and fall clothes. Then swap those for your winter wardrobe when you go home for Winter break.

4. Start to shop and keep organized!

Now, the fun part: shopping! Start to mark the items off of your checklist and be sure to put everything in one central spot. This way, you’re not worried about whether you’re leaving something back at home. And, since you’re probably buying a lot of new things, be sure to keep the receipts in case you end up not needing them. This is also a great time to come up with a theme for your new living quarters. If you already know who your roommate is, you both can coordinate to create the best. Dorm. Room. Ever.

5. Begin to Pack Sooner than Later and Consider Hiring Professional College Dorm Room Movers

We understand that acutally packing early is a hard task for the professional procrastinators out there, but it’s an important step that will help avoid that “Oh, no. I forgot something very important” moment. You should also decide whether or not you’re going to hire professional college movers. They’re a great choice for students who are particularly nervous (we make moving into your new dorm super stress-free), students who have tons of stuff to move into their new dorm (went a little overboard at Target or Bed Bath & Beyond?) and for students who just “can’t” with the idea of lugging their belongings up loads of steps into their new freshman dorm room. Want to hire professional movers? Ask these 9 questions first!

The thought of moving can seem daunting and overwhelming—especially if you’re like most people who have somehow accumulated so much stuff. It’s almost like you don’t notice exactly how many things you have until it’s time to move. Suddenly, there are so many dishes, clothing, small and large appliances and furniture to move. Hiring professional movers provides so many benefits (like saving you time—and maintaining your sanity!), but you’ll have to ask the right questions in order to get the best movers for your residential, office or long distance move. Here are 6 must-ask questions for when you want to hire professional packers and movers like Smart Price Moving.

  1. Is the moving company insured?

This should always be your first question. It’s imperative because it will ensure that if there is any damage to your belongings then you can be compensated. You also won’t be held liable for something that happened on the movers watch. While an uninsured company might pay for damages an insured moving company, like Smart Price Moving, will have a more clear and straightforward claims process.

  1. What is your rate for movers?

This is a no-brainer, but we had to add it to the list. The key here is to give the moving company as much information as possible so that your rate can be as accurate as possible. For example, 1 bedroom apartments come in very different shapes and sizes. Is your apartment small and sparsely decorated or spacious with lots of large furniture?

Call (862)253-4436 or get a professional movers quote online.

  1. Are there any truck or travel fees?

Many moving companies will quote a rate and then tack on additional feels like distance rates and truck rental rates. This is what makes Smart Price Moving stand out. We offer professional moving services at one affordable rate. No hidden fees, of any kind, ever.

  1. Do you offer white glove moving services (professional packers and movers)?

If moving is just something you want nothing to do with, a white glove moving service is the perfect fit for you. With white glove moving services, you don’t lift a finger. Professional packers come in and pack all of your belongings securely and safely and then they move them to your new location. If this is the type of service you would like, be sure to ask your prospective moving company if they offer professional packers and movers. Luckily, Smart Price Moving would be happy to service your white glove moving needs.

  1. Are packing materials provided?

Moving companies may or may not provide moving materials, so this is an important question to ask. While most companies provide traditional materials (tapes and boxes), Smart Price Moving provides a greener alternative—Smart Bins. They’re sturdier, reusable and you can forget wasteful tape and boxes. Learn more about Smart Bins and how you can rent these reusable moving boxes even if you aren’t going to hire movers.

  1. Do you have any referrals or moving company reviews?

Review sites like Google, Facebook, Yelp, Better Business Bureau and more are great ways to not only find first-hand reviews but also to see if there are any major red flags or complaints. You can also ask to talk to a referral. This is a great way to get true insights into how the company handles packing, moving, timeliness and customer service. Smart Price Moving gets five stars in all four categories.

  1. Do you have any social media pages?

Checking out a moving company’s Facebook or Instagram profile can be a great insight into what the company’s core values are. Plus, you can gain an insider’s view of the company and those who work for them too. This is a great way to alleviate any worries or concerns. Check out the Smart Price Moving Facebook page

  1. Do you accommodate last minute moves?

If you’re moving in a very short amount of time, it’s important to ask the moving company whether or not they can accommodate and if there are any additional related fees. Smart Price Moving is happy to service small, large and last minute moves.

  1. Do you service long distance moves?

If you’re moving out of the state or cross country it is important to ensure that the professional movers can handle such a move. You’ll also need to ask whether or not they have cross-state insurance to safely and securely handle your move. Smart Price Moving is happy to accommodate long distance moves to assist you in your needs.

Approximately 4 months ago, we received a personal message from a friend informing us about an opportunity they saw on Instagram. In this ad, a young lady by the name Dana Chanel was giving 25 businesses the opportunity to promote their company on major household channels like OWN, BET, MTV, FOX, for a small fee. With much consideration, our team decided that this will be a great opportunity for us to capitalize on. We then gave the company a call, got our contract and began planning.

Planning Planning Planning!
From jingles to voice training to studio time, was all a part of the planning process to ensure that this commercial was done in excellence. Not fully knowing what to expect on the day of the taping, the entire team came together with possible written scripts and ideas to execute the commercial. Our sole intention was to present to the world a moving company of integrity, excellence, and reliability.  This opportunity presented to us was one that had the ability to promote our Company nationwide and create an influx of potential clients for us…

The day was finally here!!!!
Excitement, nervousness and great enthusiasm, was the language written all over our faces. The day was finally here. We arrived in Toms River NJ at 9 am, where we met the producing crew and 24 other business owners from throughout the U.S. We all sat around the table networking, sharing business cards and experiencing all the greatness that was gathered in one room. Finally, we were called into the studio to begin the recording.

READY FOR OUR CLOSE-UP!

We introduced ourselves and the company and were then prompted with different script ideas that they believed were best suited for us. We have never done this before, so we took all their advice and suggestions and executed it. After several re-takes, it was done!

We nailed it!!! What an experience this was for us… we now look forward to the commercial being aired and the business opportunities that will accompany it.

If you see our commercial be sure to let us know what you think!

8 Simple moving tips that ‘ll make your next move the easiest ever!

 1. Don’t Forget About the Fridge

Defrost at least a day before. Then after you’ve thoroughly cleaned and dried the refrigerator, put a handful of fresh coffee, baking soda or charcoal in a sock or nylon stocking and place it inside to keep the interior smelling fresh.

2. Know how to Pack Plates and Records

Plates and record albums should be packed on end vertically, rather than placed flat and stacked.

3. Protect Your Memories

If it’s irreplaceable, it’s best to take it with you in the car (you don’t want regrets later). If you do decide to pack framed photos or art, place sheets or blankets between them for added protection.

4. Remember the Bare Necessities

Toilet paper, phone, toiletries, snacks, coffee pot, soap, flashlight, screwdriver, pliers, can opener, paper plates, cups, utensils, pans, paper towels, and cleaning supplies are some of the essentials you may need upon arrival at your new home. Pack a box with these items and ask your van foreman to load it last so that it will be unloaded first.

5. Unscrew Bulbs

Remove bulbs before packing your lamps.

6. Give the Kids an Exercise

Have children write their names and new address on the cartons from their rooms so they can become familiar with their new street and town.

7. Help your Pet Relax

Keep your pet calm and away from all the activity on moving day by arranging for a friend to watch him at their house.

8. Pack Heavy – Pack Light

Pack heavy items in small boxes and lighter items in larger boxes.
