Moving on a Saturday can get tricky, especially if you are moving to an urban area. Instead, try moving during a weekday. It’ll be easier to move around—and find parking—when most residents aren’t at home.

First, make sure you do some research and check out the moving company’s reviews. Then, we suggest giving the company a call versus just getting a quote online. A positive phone call experience is a good indicator of whether or not the company puts the customers needs first. 10. Forget mass-packing, instead pack little by little
Over the course of a month (or even earlier), you should begin to pack your home. Dedicate weekends or certain weekdays to tackling a particular room, out-of-season clothing—or just a set of cabinets. By breaking up packing responsibilities, you won’t feel overwhelmed. Calendaring pre-packing responsibilities will help you stay on track, too.
11. Solicit friends to pack, versus move-in
Hiring professional movers take the heavy lifting off of your plate and your friends are more likely to agree to help pack versus move. It’s much less strenuous, and still very helpful to you. Plus, if you throw in pizza—they’re very unlikely to say know. (Or is that just us?)
Most companies will let you schedule well in advance, so it’s easy to mark this off of your master to-do list early.
14. If you’re renting, take photos
You’ll want to do this after you move out of your old home and before you move into your new home. Take care to take photos of any outstanding dings or damage, and be sure to bring it up to the landlord. This will prevent any undue charges.
15. Stack dishes vertically
It’s much safer when transporting. You can also use your (massive!) supply of plastic grocery bags to create additional padding.
16. Snap pictures when disassembling furniture
This will make it easier to put things together if you’re moving on your own. After you break down your furniture, place corresponding nuts, bolts, and nails in clearly labeled zip lock bags.
If we had a quarter for everytime someone said that they’d be unpacked within a couple of days, but really fully unpacked weeks later, we’d be rich. Packing in and of itself is time-consuming and oftentimes stressful. When it comes to moving day, you can pretty much guarantee that you’ll be too tired to unpack all of your belongings that same day. For this, most people suggest packing an “overnight” box. Something that will get you through a day or two of living out of boxes. But, if you’re honest, it’ll take you much longer than a day or two to unpack your entire home. In fact, you probably won’t unpack much that entire week. This is why today's moving tip is to pack an “essentials” box for each room in the house.
Trust us, your “essentials” box will be a lifesaver—and can even last you an entire month for those who are serious procrastinators. So what rooms should you create an “essentials” box for? First, all of the main rooms—think kitchen, living room, bathroom, and bedroom. Some “essential boxes” will be larger than others. Just remember, that an “essentials” box only includes absolute necessities. A box that is too large may feel overwhelming.

This box is the key to not eating takeout for an entire month! This box will probably be your largest. You’ll want to include items that help you cook as well as kitchen pantry go-tos. Here’s the list for a kitchen essentials moving box:
2 or 3 pots that you use frequently, like a frying pan, medium-sized pot and TK
Place settings: plate, bowl, spoon, fork and knife (One set for each household member)

8 Simple moving tips that ‘ll make your next move the easiest ever!
1. Don’t Forget About the Fridge
Defrost at least a day before. Then after you’ve thoroughly cleaned and dried the refrigerator, put a handful of fresh coffee, baking soda or charcoal in a sock or nylon stocking and place it inside to keep the interior smelling fresh.
2. Know how to Pack Plates and Records
Plates and record albums should be packed on end vertically, rather than placed flat and stacked.
3. Protect Your Memories
If it’s irreplaceable, it’s best to take it with you in the car (you don’t want regrets later). If you do decide to pack framed photos or art, place sheets or blankets between them for added protection.
4. Remember the Bare Necessities
Toilet paper, phone, toiletries, snacks, coffee pot, soap, flashlight, screwdriver, pliers, can opener, paper plates, cups, utensils, pans, paper towels, and cleaning supplies are some of the essentials you may need upon arrival at your new home. Pack a box with these items and ask your van foreman to load it last so that it will be unloaded first.
5. Unscrew Bulbs
Remove bulbs before packing your lamps.

Have children write their names and new address on the cartons from their rooms so they can become familiar with their new street and town.
