Pop goes the cork and clink go the glasses. There’s always a cause for celebration. And, the Summer months are no exception. With weddings, BBQ’s, family reunions and vacations on the horizon, surely, there will be alcohol involved. Cocktails, like Cinderella, are fabulous. Until the clock strikes midnight that is. Can CBD help a hangover? Let’s check it out.
What are the signs of a hangover?
If you’ve ever had too much to drink, you know what a hangover feels like. And, it’s definitely not pretty! You may have even felt so horrible that you vowed to never drink again! The headache, the body aches, nausea, dizziness, sensitivity to light and sound and the list goes on. The most common signs of a hangover are:
Even a little bit of alcohol can cause the body to dehydrate. Alcohol is a diuretic. Which is why you have to go to the bathroom so much when you drink. It’s common to run to the powder room several times during a night of drinking. Unfortunately, the body gets rid of much more fluid than it takes in. Those in the know tend to drink one glass of water for every cocktail to balance the fluid loss. But, let’s face it, that’s not fun! Be prepared to be tired, achy, and a bit sluggish.
Alcohol causes inflammation in the body. If you’ve ever woken up after a night out feeling like you were run over by a truck, you can surely relate. Every inch of your body feels sore and achy. And, you probably start wondering what you really did last night. Alcohol is the culprit! It’s responsible for inflammation in the body. And, when the body is inflamed, it can feel terrible. From the tips of your toes to the top of your head, and everything in between, you just feel wrecked.
A Nasty Headache
Dehydration alone can bring on a nasty headache but, when coupled with inflammation you literally don’t want to see the light of day! Whether it’s a dull ache or a sharp throbbing, that debilitating headache, that can reach migraine status, is the number one indicator of a hangover.
Nausea & Vomiting
When we consume too many cocktails, and yes, beer counts, the stomach produces excess acid. The best-case scenario is you’re bloated, have a little gas, and maybe a bit of heartburn. The worst-case scenario is that nausea leads to vomiting and you’re now spending time on the bathroom floor. Never a good look.
Anxiety & Blood Pressure
There have been studies done that link alcohol consumption to an increase in heart rate. When the blood pressure goes up so can your anxiety. Ever hear of drinker’s remorse? It’s that level of anxiousness that drives us crazy the morning after. Or, maybe it’s just that we don’t remember what we were up to!
So, can CBD help a hangover?
CBD is known to provide many benefits. And while the FDA has not evaluated these benefits, the testimonials from CBD users are wonderful. Here are the positives:
CBD is plant-derived making it a natural alternative to over the counter remedies to fight pain, inflammation and more.
CBD has been studied for its effects on (1)inflammation and results have been achieved through ingestible and topical forms of CBD. So, it just may help alleviate that overall achy feeling.
CBD has shown great promise in helping with headache and migraine pain associated with too much drinking.
When it comes to helping with anxiety, or “drinker’s remorse”, CBD is a great option. There have been studies conducted showcasing the positive effects of CBD on both (2)mood stabilization and (3)anxiety.
CBD is known to help calm queasiness and settle the stomach. There have been studies suggesting that CBD can help calm the feeling of (4)nausea and perhaps prevent you from vomiting. So, it’s time to get off the bathroom floor!
The best way to avoid a hangover is to avoid drinking! You definitely need to rehydrate by drinking plenty of water, and, by all means, eat something. And while CBD is not a hangover cure it may help alleviate some of the negative side-effects of drinking. More research needs to be done in this area for sure. But hey, if CBD can take the edge off and make you feel a little better after over-indulging, it’s certainly worth a try!

Here with a few Fun Facts about HAIR. That’s right Hair. As a two-time Cancer survivor who has been bald on a few occasions, I take hair health very seriously. Did you know that hair grows all over our bodies except for the palms of our hands, soles of our feet, our eyelids, mucous membranes, and our lips? (Thank goodness!)A single strand of wet hair can stretch up to 30% beyond its normal length.30%! Which is why it’s important to be gentle when combing or brushing wet hair. When your hair begins to stretch it weakens the hair strand and can cause breakage. Do you freak out over finding hair in the shower drain? Well, Don’t! The average person has approximately 100,000 to 150,000 hairs on their head. And It’s normal to lose anywhere from 40 to 150 strands a day. The good news is, when a hair falls out, it usually grows back up to 20 times in a lifetime. It’s important to know that a single hair can have a lifespan of up to 5 years. So, we need to care of it. Choose only a gentle shampoo and conditioner. I always look for Sulfate-free formulas as they are much less harsh than those containing sulfates like Sodium Lauryl (SL) and Sodium Laureth (SLES) sulfates. Take extra care when styling and don’t abuse your hair with excessive heat from blow drying, curling, and straightening. Give your hair a break once and a while and go au naturale. Your hair needs a day off too!
“Jacquie, I need a good source of protein. What do you recommend?”
Did you know Peas are an excellent source of Protein? Which is why protein-rich peas are the perfect side dish. When I was in school I worked for a baby food company as part of the “Pea Gang” where we would inspect all of the fresh peas upon delivery from the farms. Needless to say, after being elbow deep in peas all summer long I was not a big fan. Until now! Peas are packed with protein and in fact, are one of the best plant-based sources of protein. They contain about 15 grams per serving. That’s approximately four times more protein than 15 almonds, two times more than a large egg, and two times the amount of a glass of milk! Peas are an excellent source of fiber. They’re a great source of antioxidants. And contain just about every vitamin and mineral you need. Overall, peas are an incredibly healthy food to incorporate into your diet. So toss some in your salad, add to your pasta dishes and incorporate into your soups. Let’s give Peas a chance!
“Jacquie, Can You Fly with CBD Oil? Do you have any tips for traveling with CBD products and complying with the TSA requirements.”
Flying with CBD products? No problem!
If you’re a CBD user, whether it’s tinctures, capsules, drinks, topicals or even skin care, I bet you have been nervous about boarding an airplane with your products. We’ve all seen the news. And, in the past, there have been people stopped at security for trying to bring CBD products on their flight. Thankfully there’s no need to worry about it anymore!
Hooray! You can bring CBD on a Plane!
Just recently the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has added to their “What can I bring” list, “*Products/medications that contain hemp-derived CBD or are approved by the FDA”. These products are deemed legal to fly with as long as they are produced within the regulations defined by the law. Fortunately, the USA recently passed the 2018 Farm Bill making it legal to carry CBD, derived from hemp, onto an airplane. But, beware:
CBD oil derived from marijuana is illegal.
You must verify the THC content of your products, especially CBD oils, for compliance.
Products containing more than 0.3% of THC are illegal as.
These new rules only pertain to Domestic flights.
Travel sized products must be 3.4 ounces or less when placed in your carry-on bag.
What about International flights?
If you are planning on taking CBD with you on an International flight it may be a bit more complicated. While some countries have no issue, others have very strict laws against it.
Believe it or not, there are still some countries that are willing to enforce the death penalty for carrying even small amounts of substances that they deem illegal. And, security checks tend to be stricter when traveling internationally. You may want to just leave your products at home to avoid a travel nightmare. The last thing you want to do is end up detained or in jail so take every precaution. And if you must take your CBD products, do your research!
Other things you need to know about flying with CBD.
Remember, security agents, aren’t diligently looking for your CBD products. They are there to ensure the safety of all passengers and to keep the airports safe. But, because this is all so new, you may want to take any guesswork out of traveling with CBD and help the agents out.
Be prepared to answer any questions that could arise.
Keep your products in the original packaging with labels intact.
Bring any documentation you may have to prove your CBD is hemp derived, not marijuana-derived.
Consider packing your CBD products in your carry-on bag. If you pack your CBD in your checked luggage, it may be removed due to lack of explanation or understanding by TSA. They do thoroughly scrutinize checked luggage.
Once you have successfully made it through security it’s time for some CBD! Travelling, especially flying, can be stressful. CBD may help take the edge off and allow you to relax and enjoy your flight. If you’re using CBD oil, add a few drops to your water or other in-flight beverage and enjoy! Safe travels!
Those 3 little letters “C B D” are popping up everywhere these days. You can find some kind of CBD, whether it’s full spectrum, broad spectrum, or isolate in just about everything. From tinctures, tablets, candy, gum, food, drinks and even products for our furry friends – CBD is taking the world by storm.
But, does it make sense to use skin care products that contain CBD? You bet it does!
CBD oil, in its natural and purest form, contains all of the essential properties that we look for in our skin care products. Whether it’s a CBD infused facial serum, moisturizer, body lotion or eye serum the benefits are fantastic. CBD is the go-to ingredient because it delivers results, it’s 100% natural and it’s totally safe to use.
When it comes to taking care of our skin, one thing we know for sure is that antioxidant vitamins are imperative for our overall skin health. It’s the antioxidants that help to fend off free radical damage, which is responsible for much of our skin damage and a leading cause of skin aging. Did you know that CBD alone is a very powerful antioxidant? In fact, CBD is actually stronger than vitamin C and E, the go-to antioxidant vitamins regularly used in skin care products. CBD is a powerful, botanically derived, antioxidant that is essential to the overall health of our skin. It protects our collagen and elastin and helps to protect our skin from the damaging rays of the sun and other environmental and skin aging factors. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
CBD oil also contains:
Vitamins A & D which help to promote skin repair and encourage new skin growth.
Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids which help to soften the skin and regenerate the skin’s protective outer layer.
All 20 amino acids – including the 9 essential amino acids that our body can’t make on its own. When these amino acids are applied to the skin, studies show they have significant effects that range from antioxidant protection, improved UV protection and they help to promote tissue repair and condition the skin*.
But that’s not all!
CBD oil has been studied for its effects on inflammation. Its anti-inflammatory properties have proven positive in helping people who suffer from, eczema, rosacea, psoriasis, and even acne. CBD has been proven to help reduce inflammation and, in turn, calm the skin. When it comes to acne, there is positive data suggesting that CBD oil helps to lower oil production in the skin. It’s the excessive oil production combined with our natural exfoliation process that can lead to breakouts and irritated skin. Because of this, there are many amazing testimonials supporting CBD’s positive effects on blemishes and breakouts.
Excellent for targeted results.
Topically applied CBD skin care products allow for targeted treatment used to help soothe troubled skin, as well as sore, tight, and tired muscles and joints. It’s a great option for focused relief whether it’s your feet, hands, back, shoulders or your face. CBD topicals can bring relief to your sore, overworked body while also nourishing and protecting your skin leaving it looking more youthful, healthy and radiant.
When you apply CBD skin care products to your face and body it’s important to note that the CBD never reaches your bloodstream. It won’t affect the whole body and will only deliver those cannabinoid properties to where it’s needed most. And you will never experience any psychoactive effects. While most CBD products do not contain THC, even if you used one that did it won’t reach your bloodstream and will only affect the outside of the body. To date, there aren’t any known side-effects to using CBD topically.
CBD skin care products are a great option for those curious about the benefits of CBD oil. Perhaps you’re still reluctant to ingest CBD. That’s perfectly o.k. but, go ahead and give skin care a try. I would venture to guess that once you experience the results for yourself you will be happy to try an ingestible. And when you do, don’t be surprised if your personal results get even better!

“Jacquie, Why are essential amino acids important for healthy skin?”
Amino Acids are the building blocks of protein. There are several Amino Acids that are considered “Essential”. They are Isoleucine, Leucine, Lysine, Methionine, Phenylalanine, Threonine, Tryptophan, and Valine. These Amino Acids can’t be created or synthesized in the body like other Amino Acids and therefore must be consumed as part of your diet.
Amino Acids in the body are compromised by things like pollution, smoking, drinking alcohol and even hormones found in some meat products. These factors can negatively impact your amino acids and prevent you from getting enough to create the necessary proteins.
All proteins are not created equal. And the quality of the proteins is basically determined by the body’s ability to use them effectively. The 8 essential amino acids are necessary to form a protein molecule. Without them, every single one of them, a protein molecule can’t be created. If even just one single Amino is missing the creation of protein can’t happen. One Amino Acid cannot be substituted for another. So even if all of the other Amino Acids are present in the body, it wouldn’t make a difference. It’s important that all of the essential amino acids are obtained through your diet.
When it comes to healthy skin, our skin cells renew themselves approximately every 30 days or so. Generally, the older we are, the slower the process. And just like the other cells in the body, our skin cells are made from proteins. The skin needs essential Amino Acids to help generate new skin cells. The essential Aminos help stimulate the buildup of collagen. If you’re deficient in Amino Acids, your skin will be thinner, and it won’t be able to retain the necessary water.
Essential Amino Acids can be found in foods like lean meats including ham and pork, poultry, seafood, eggs, dairy and plant-based protein sources like quinoa, soy beans and nuts. With that said, anyone can benefit from taking a daily Amino Acid supplement to help fill in the gaps that they may have in their diet. And the best part? Amino Acids will provide wonderful benefits inside and out.
Does getting a good night’s sleep seem impossible these days? Our lives are jam packed with so much stuff to do. Whether it’s school, work, family or friends – we are busy burning the candle at both ends. You would think that our hectic lifestyle alone would inspire Sweet Dreams every night – BECAUSE WE’RE EXHAUSTED! But, for many of us that’s just not the case. In fact, it’s the opposite.
Could Melatonin be the solution?
Getting proper sleep is important for everyone. In fact, it’s crucial to our overall health & well-being. And a good night of dreamy Zzzzz’s is the best beauty tip of all, remember, it’s called “Beauty Sleep” for a reason. Lack of sleep can wreck your appearance. From puffy eyes, sallow skin to more noticeable fine lines and wrinkles everyone needs beauty sleep! When we don’t catch enough Zzzzz’s it’s not only our appearance that suffers. Here’s what else you might expect:
Difficulty Making Decisions and Problem Solving
Lack of Sex Life
Ability to lose Weight
And, potential serious health issues including Heart Disease, High Blood Pressure, Stroke, Diabetes and more.
So, what can we do?
Aside from the obvious things we hear about like:
Exercise. Even a brisk 20-minute walk, to keep stress hormones from interfering,
Not eating too late in the day to avoid an active digestive system.
Avoiding caffeine at least 4 hours before bedtime and yes, that includes chocolate.
Turn off the TV, put down the video games and log off of Social Media before going to bed. Your bed is not an office. It’s for sleep!
What else can we do?
If your sleepless nights of tossing and turning are affecting you in any way, it may be time to consider Melatonin.
Melatonin is an important hormone that’s secreted naturally by the body. Darkness encourages the body to produce more melatonin, when this happens it signals the body to get ready for sleep. Light decreases melatonin production and then signals the body to wake up. Melatonin’s primary function is helping to keep our circadian rhythms – otherwise known as our body clocks – in check. When our clock gets out of whack, sleepless nights and insomnia may be the result. Melatonin is an awesome sleep aid that has proven to be effective in helping us sleep.
Keep in mind, our melatonin production declines as we age. By supplementing we are giving the body back what it needs to function at its best.
Melatonin is safe, highly effective and there are no known side effects. There have been numerous studies showing melatonin as highly effective in treating insomnia. It’s an incredible solution that, best of all, is not a drug!
For any affective herbal sleep aid, Melatonin is a must! Why not give it a try?
“Jacquie, I have a friend who sprinkles cayenne pepper onto everything she eats. What are some cayenne pepper health benefits?”
Cayenne Pepper contains capsaicin which, based on the results of several different studies, has shown to help reduce one’s appetite and increase fat burning. Because of these studies, you can find capsaicin in many types of weight-loss products. Cayenne pepper is a well-known digestive aid as it helps to stimulate the digestive tract, increasing the flow of enzyme production and our gastric juices. This ultimately aids the body’s ability to metabolize food (and toxins). Cayenne pepper is helpful for relieving intestinal gas and can help ease an upset stomach. Most of us know Cayenne Pepper as being HOT. And some of us break out in a sweat when we eat it which is why it’s a very popular detoxification ingredient. Mix with lemon juice and honey and you’ve got the perfect de-tox drink.
I get asked all the time how to choose the right cleanser? This is a huge question because cleansing is the first step in any skin care regimen and your cleanser choice is important. So many people make the mistake of picking up any old bar of soap to wash their face. Trust me, this is the perfect way to wreck your skin. Most bar soaps contain really harsh detergents and deodorizes that are meant to tackle the entire body and not necessarily the face. Bar Soaps have a really big job to do and because of this, just aren’t gentle enough for the delicate facial skin. So, do a self-evaluation to determine what type of cleanser your skin needs. If it’s oily, choose a cleanser that targets oil production. Light-weight foaming gel cleansers are great. If your skin is on the dry side, look for a cleanser that has moisturizing properties that won’t dry out your skin. A lotion-based creamy, cleanser is a great choice. Pay attention to your skin because it will change throughout the year and you may need to change your cleanser as well. But, whatever you do, put down that bar soap!
“Hey Jacquie, why do I experience severe skin breakouts on only one side of my face?”
This is a great question! Skin breakouts are something that just about everyone experiences at one time or another. Here’s what I want you to do. Clean Your Phone! I would venture to guess that the side of your face that you hold your phone on is probably the same side you’re experiencing the breakouts. This is because there’s a constant transfer of dirt, oil, makeup, and other impurities. Today’s phones are for more than just talking. We text, email, take photos, post on social media, shop for shoes, you name it. And our dirty little fingers are touching that screen all day long. We shove the phone in our pocket, dig for it at the bottom of our purse, set it on top of restaurant tables and even drop it on the floor. Can you imagine the germs and bacteria that eventually end up on your face? So, clean your phone to remove germs and pimple producing bacteria every single day. Make this a healthy habit and those one-sided breakouts will surely disappear.
