Whether you are a fan of gallery walls or displaying a single statement piece, dressing a print/prints can be overwhelming.  A piece of art can make a huge statement in any size home.  Turning a boring wall into a creative display can be a conversation starter for sure.  Finding or capturing prints to fit my home’s vibe has always been easy, but choosing custom frames that were affordable just never was.  Until now   I am thrilled to share a company with you today that makes framing your prints easy and affordable.  Frame it Easy has been around since 2002 and they take all the guess work out of custom framing.

*This post was done in collaboration with Frame it Easy.  All opinions are 100% my own.  Be sure to pick up a coupon code at the end of the post to save 10%!

I have a deep love for styling open shelves, (click here to see) and I have to say layering pieces of art and prints may be my new favorite approach.  I’m not finished yet, but here’s a preview showcasing my new custom frames. Talk about an easy way to add instant character.  This shelf used to be cluttered with all sorts of items, but now it speaks more my language.

Custom Frames Made Easy

Frame it Easy is so user friendly you will be running out of wall space before you know it I couldn’t believe how easy their website was to follow.  Here is a screenshot of a photo taken just yesterday.  The simple website options will have my custom frames arriving home before I do!

You can choose to upload your photo, and have Frame it Easy print and frame it, or simply choose your custom frame options and load it on your own upon arrival.  I have done both, and assembling the frame was no trouble at all!  They send everything needed to hang and/or display your custom frames.

Memories Preserved

Here you can see a collage I quickly arranged with several photos taken on our vacation in the last couple of days.  It’s so fun and easy choosing custom frames from Frame it Easy that I can have the makings for a new gallery wall while still on vacation!

I did order one custom print to be showcased on it’s own, and you can imagine our girl’s reaction when I unveiled it.  The eye rolls were quite heavy, and Glenn and I got quite the kick out of that! As if I were going to display this piece anywhere other than OUR master bathroom!!

I hope you check out Frame it Easy when framing your next piece.  Their frames are 100% made in the USA by American workers, and each frame is delivered with superb craftsmanship.  I highly recommend their frames, and will be using them over and over.  I’m happy to say this company stands true to their name

The trend of open shelves doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon, and frankly, I’m ok with that.  If you like the way open shelves looks, chances are you have found a way to incorporate them into your current design situation.  I haven’t gone as far as taking down existing cabinets, but I have added a few in the mix the last few years.

Open shelves can make a room seem bigger, but the task of styling them can be a bit intimidating, especially if you plan on displaying items you use everyday!  With a little planning, you’ll have a charming exhibit in no time.  There are so many options when it comes to shelving material and brackets.  We chose a farmhouse style for the kitchen and bathroom, but a more industrial look for our pantry.  I LOVE how our pantry came together, you can check it out here!

Stack and Grab

If I’m being honest, the open shelves in our breakfast nook are styled primarily for display.  The dishes pictured are good china handed down from my Oma, but I have included two photos below from friends whose open shelves are functional.

If you are going to store your dishes openly, I suggest stacking a good amount (8-12 plates, bowls, etc).  That way, when you use them for dinner, there is still a stack there for display without leaving a gap.  Make sure to group your most used items out in front. This way you don’t have to worry about moving other items and run the risk breaking a favorite piece. Keep your most prized and layered pieces off the lowest shelf.

The Art in Open Shelving

I like to mix in different heights for interest, and this is an easy way to display larger pieces you may have.  As far as color and patterns, just be sure to spread them out and keep them balanced.  I chose natural wood tones, white and sprinkles of green and made sure to showcase the pieces evenly.

Non-functional is OK TOO!

I have open shelves displayed throughout our home, and I simply love decorating them.  They add so much character to a space, and are quite functional.  With that being said, these smaller shelves in our master bath simply display pretty items I do not grab often.  Whether you choose to display breakables, collected treasures, or everyday items; open shelving can be helpful for plain ole storage!  I am excited to say that I have suggested them to 2 clients, and both were open to the idea.  Not only were they both excited with the suggestion, they are going to let me style them   I’ll be sure to share their beauty with you for more inspo!

Already a Fan? or Not for Me!

So how many of you proudly display open shelving in your homes?  Are you on the fence about incorporating some?  What’s holding you back?  For those of you who have open shelves, did you knock down kitchen cabinets?  Have you remained happy with your decision?  Is it a chore to keep them styled, or do you think it’s been totally worth having everything at your fingertips?

HI!  I’m just going to cut to the chase and tell you why I’m so giddy and that I’m so grateful for the opportunity to share this exciting news with you!  I was recently asked to decorate this gorgeous bathroom remodel by JN Design and Construction… my first ‘ever’ professional decorating job (outside of friends and family) -insert jumpy claps here!

The foundation of the project was coming to its final days when Jason Norder of JN Design and Construction asked me to come in and style the finishing details.  To say I’m honored that he, and his wife Christa, chose me to help expand their portfolio would be an understatement. I spent time discussing likes/dislikes with the homeowner, Jackie, and made it my mission to create the perfect place to retreat to at the end of a long day.

Moody and Chic

Moody and chic comes to mind with this gorgeous shiplap wall.  The homeowner chose Peppercorn by Sherwin Williams, for the paint on the shiplap, and I love the contrast with the lighter gray walls.

24″ round frameless mirrors added just the right amount of a modern touch over the vanity.  I chose a chrome finish to blend with the faucets and sconces, but had fun mixing metals with the wire basket and flower pot.

A Touch of Farmhouse

The overall color scheme for this gorgeous bathroom remodel is soft grays mixed in with a splash of seafoam green.  Jackie ordered these prints on Etsy, but wasn’t insistent on using them.  I loved their soft hue and simplicity and, once framed, they provided just the right amount of interest for this space.  The prints combined with these wire basket shelves from Hobby Lobby, contribute just a touch of farmhouse.

The homeowner was kind enough to share sources with me for the flooring, tile, shiplap, and paint.  All the links including the decor for this gorgeous bathroom remodel will be listed at the end of this post.

My Favorite Element to this Gorgeous Bathroom Remodel

Jason did an amazing job with the shower tile, and if it isn’t eye candy enough… this custom made bathtub tray from ourblessednestof4 on Etsy, completed the space.  I had seen these trays before in pictures, but was blown away at their beauty in person.  The natural wood  in this tray provides organic charm and just makes this space homey.

I was so excited to surprise the home owners with this simple feature and I am happy to say, they loved it too!  Bringing in elements of the outdoors when decorating draws people in.  There’s just something so calming about natural materials.

Raise your hand if you think you need a bathtub tray now!!

I opted for 3 separate hooks to hang her towels instead of a standard bar.  Jackie runs a daycare, so just draping towels on a hook will minimize the worry of little ones practicing their chin-ups and messing up pretty ‘no touch’ towels. She had this gorgeous cotton wreath just laying around.  The colors were perfect, and it finished off this space perfectly.

Big thank you to Jason and Christa of JN Design and Construction and the homeowner Jackie for trusting me and allowing me to expand outside my comfort zone.  I have been working on providing more services, and this was the extra push I needed.

Sources –

Please do not hesitate with questions on sources.  I’ll make sure to reach out to the homeowner and answer you promptly.  I hope you find inspiration with this gorgeous bathroom remodel.  Talk soon!

Simple Cozy Charm by Martha Knake - 2M ago

Welcome back friends!  I promised a full front porch reveal this week, and I am super excited to debut it in it’s entirety.  I told you in my last post that I was waiting to show you a fun new outdoor accessory.  If you like to decorate with baskets, then feast your eyes on these outdoor belly baskets from Kirklands!

Belly Baskets Safe Enough For Outdoors

Are these belly baskets not the cutest?!  Look how slouchy they appear too.  They are actually made of cement and quite heavy.  The bottom one even sports a rolled top!  If you love summer entertaining, Kirkland’s Outdoor Collection has everything in one place for refreshing your outdoor area.

I knew immediately I had to have a set of these outdoor belly baskets, and I am so impressed with the quality of these planters.  You definitely don’t want to accidentally stub your toe on one of these even though they appear to be soft.

Just like indoor baskets, these outdoor belly baskets could be used for storage.  Sure the foliage I have featured look great, but they could totally be used to house a throw blanket on cooler evenings.

Give Me All The Texture

One thing I love about adding baskets into your decor is the texture they provide.  Layering these belly baskets with the patterned rug and basket weave sofa created the extra cozy this space needed.

More From Kirkland’s

You should really consider stopping by Kirkland’s this summer.  Kirkland’s Outdoor Collection offers many accents to create an inviting outdoor oasis.  Check out their collection of wooden lanterns, door wreaths, welcome mats, sculptures, and more!

I’m so in love with how these outdoor belly baskets completed this space!  Their actual name when searching online is – Natural Cement Basket Planter (top) and Natural Rolled Top Cement Basket Planter (bottom).

The Full Reveal

Thanks so much for stopping by to check out the full reveal of my front porch refresh.  I can’t wait until the landscaping is in full bloom, and I can finish planting my window boxes and planters.  If you missed last week’s mini front porch tour with all the details on the new front door color, click here.  As always, feel free to reach out with any questions.  I love hearing from you!
