The teacher of the Reiki practice, Usui Sensei had 5 principles that helped the healing practice to be developed. These are tools to live a more significant life and can be used as affirmations throughout the day. Each of the five affirmations refer to today. This makes you Become more aware in the present moment rather than wasting valuable energy living in the past or having expectations for the future. It is easier for the mind to comprehend and grasp the moment of today. Planning for the future it’s a loftier job and makes it more likely to unconsciously avoid it. Today sounds more doable for the mind; it is better and more sustainable to build a future daily brick by brick.
It is recommended to use these percepts as mantras during meditation. For each person they have different meanings and you can unlock your own meaning through meditation. You can create a framed picture with the principles and have them where you can see them daily. If you are a healer have the principles in the healing room. The five Reiki principles are not commandments; they are simply gifts of wisdom.
1. “Just for today: I will live in the attitude of gratitude.”
The first of the five principles of reiki is about the magical emotion of feeling grateful. You cannot be grateful and angry in the same time. One cure all for many negative emotions is the feeling of gratefulness. Your life, your family, your friends, the place you live, and all big and small things we are taking for granted helped improved our quality of life such as the internet, the healthcare, the food industry.
Without some of these things there would be so much struggle in our lives just to provide ourselves with the basic survival needs. We usually tend to focus on the things we don’t have. Looking for what we actually have, it gives you perspective and it is also a good brain exercise. And it is actually the best way to attract more positive things in your life. But most importantly we have to bless all the shortcoming and negative things that we went through. Because of these we are what we are today within ourselves. They refine us and they have the purpose to adjust our path in life.
One variation of this principle is Just for today I will give thanks to my many blessings. You can write down regularly all of you life blessings. You can look again at the things that you believe were a misfortune and see that only because of these you are now stronger, more prepared for life and wiser. To help rebalance this state of gratitude within yourself place one hand on the third eye chakra and another one on the occipital ridge. Use this method on yourself or others to bring more profound states of gratitude.
Fear and worry are enemies that will almost never make things better in your life. Give away to them and you are doomed to a life of bad cycles that never leave room for the good. All you can do in any situation is your best. Fear and worry will not make you do more than you can, but rather less than you are capable of. Whatever endeavours you might tackle just do your best and leave the rest in the hands of the Universe. That is all you can do and it’s the best you can do.
A wonderful cure against fear and worry is laughter. Watch or read daily something that makes you laugh. If you have around you people that are constantly worrying and fearing you need to avoid them. Surround yourself with happy people; be it on television, on the internet or in real life. Avoid people that have negative ways at living at looking at life.
You can use the Reiki to help bring down your worry and fear. Place one hand on the root chakra and another on the heart chakra. This will help bring balance within the body and mind. It removes the blockages caused by stress, worry and anxiety. Keep your hands there until you feel better. You can use this on yourself or on others.
3. “Just for today: I will not be angry”
It has been proven that while you are angry your mind goes back into a more basic state. Your intelligence is taken away when you feel anger. The benefit of anger is that it can make you laser focused if channelled properly. But anger also burns away the good karma. Being in anger it’s not the best way to react to stressful situations. You can still take action and resolve situation in a state of peace. Avoiding anger gives you perspective on the problem and you are more likely to solve it effectively.
If you pay attention to it you will notice that whenever you are angry you giveaway energy. If you are angry because of a person that person steals your energy. When this happens remember to now allow others to benefit from your own energies. When you are angry you can heal yourself through Reiki by placing one hand on the third eye chakra and the other on the root chakra. Keep your hands there for as long as you feel necessary. You can use this technique on yourself or on others.
4. “Just for today: I will be honest to my own self.”
It is one thing to lie to others but the truth is that oftentimes we lie to ourselves too. We lie about not wanting to grow, that we do not want to become more than we are right now. Being honest to yourself and being free of what other people say and do will make you more connected to your real purpose. Being dishonest takes away valuable power from the soul and the mind. Honesty to one-self is actually the first step in connecting to our deeper being and aligning the chakras.
Another variation of this principle is Just for today I wil do my work honestly. If you can be dishonest with others or you can be dishonest with yourself. You may be gifted with a particular ability and you might be dishonest to yourself by not exploiting your ability. You ability may be of help to others so it means you are also dishonest to them. To rebalance this principle within yourself or on others place one hand on the third eye chakra and another on the solar plexus chakra. Keep them as long as you intuitevely feel is enough.
5. “Just for today: I will respect all living beings.”
The last of the five principles of reiki refers to all there is alive in on this planet. Whatever good things happen in your life, most of them were not possible without the involvement of other people. Be it your family, your spouse, your friends – they all have an impact on the positive things you experience today. They made you who you are today with all good and bad things also. Either you accommodate with this or not, the truth is that you must respect yourself and others too. Whatever the experience of your life is now, it might very well be part of your life process and not the end of it.
It is not just about people. It is also about animals, plants. The food that nourishes you daily would not be possible without the plants, insects and all other living beings. On one level we are truly all connected and being respectful to all that lives is becoming aware of our true nature as human beings living on this planet. Even the people that you dislike are to be respected because we are actually all connected and they also depend on their life of the same things you depend on. Air, food, sun, love care, compassion, trust and understanding are common things that we all require and strive for.
Basically it is about karma. What goes around comes around. What thoughts and actions you throw on others they will eventually come back to you. Send out bad to others and you will get bad in your life. Send out good and happiness and you will live a happy and good life. To help bring this principle to life within you or other place one hand on the Third Eye Chakra and the other one on the Root chakra. When you feel you are ready move from the Third Eye to the Throat Chakra. Keep it there until you intuitevely feel is enough.
The five principles of reiki as a tool for well-being
These principles are the five principles of Reiki. They are an interpretation of what Reiki does to your mind, body and soul. The Pure Reiki practice helps you connect with your true self. It makes you aware of your humanity and shows you what truly matters and what doesn’t for you in your life. It gives you vitality and clarity. Reiki heals your body, mind and soul.
Yesterday, I saw the Fred Roger’s movie “Won’t You Be My Neighbor”. As someone who works in children’s television myself, I have always admired his work and how he pioneered this medium with such intention, to be sure that children were respected and treated with kindness. As a child, I remember feeling so comforted by some of his simple, routine gestures, like putting on his cozy sweater, changing his shoes and feeding the fish. He made you feel safe and welcome. He didn’t talk down to you or make you feel small. He was very much aware of how it felt to be a child. He hadn’t lost touch with his own inner child and this knowing was very apparent.
As I watched the movie, there were many new things I learned about Mr. Rogers, which made me like him even more. Many of the people interviewed in the movie made mention of the fact that he was a master at communicating with children because he never forgot and always remained childlike. They attribute his success to this connection.
In Reiki work, I find there are many clients who have forgotten about their inner child. Many may feel that they have been forced to. They matured, their problems got bigger… life got harder. Soon, they were adults with their own children. There were bills to pay and problems to fix and there was no time to remember the simple joys of childhood. Becoming reacquainted with your inner child is an amazing way to restore joy into your life that might be missing, or lost along the way. It is a crucial practice for anyone, in any field, to remain open to possibilities and to marvel at the ordinary. The inner child is always there for you. You can never be too old or grown up.
Children are masters of imagination. To a child, the whole world is a wonder. There are limitless options. When a child pretends to be a King, slaying a dragon, they take on that role with such real energy. For that moment in time, they are the King and the dragon is real. Children are only aware of possibilities and can dream up endless scenarios. As they become more and more aware of the world around them, they become aware of the probabilities and life becomes more of a balance between the two. The inner child can get lost in life’s trials and triumphs. The inner child can get very wounded, by heartbreak or rejection, along the way. The inner child can retreat and stay in a comfort zone that feels safe, never venturing too far outward, for fear of failing or further rejection. Failed relationships, employment opportunities, or any other “adult problem” can keep the inner child very far from our awareness. But, when we remember to check in with our inner child, we can reignite the awareness of life’s possibilities and remember that we are limitless. We realize that there is no such thing as failure, as each experience brings a lesson and a learning that brings us closer to our true self. It is only when we believe our limitations that they can become real. The limitations or the ideas that we have come to believe in our minds of being “not good enough” or “too old”, “too inexperienced” or “too this or that”, become all too familiar. We need to silence that inner critic and bring the inner child into the light. Connecting with your inner child brings awe to the every day.
Working with clients on the Solar Plexus chakra and reconnecting with the inner child can bring forward a memory of something in childhood that was embarrassing or difficult. Perhaps the unkind words of a bully penetrated our feelings so deeply, that the feelings got trapped and were never truly released. Perhaps there was a time in childhood where someone was in a school play and had stage fright that stayed within their energy and kept them from public speaking or being in the spotlight in their career as an adult. Childhood memories and feelings can manifest in ways that our conscious mind is unaware of. We can be literally stuck in the energy of something from the past and not even be aware of it. The great news is that Reiki can move your energy, get you unstuck and help you move forward in ways that you never dreamed possible. You can discover that you have courage and bravery that you had forgotten you had. You can step into a new path with more confidence than you had imagined, and create a new experience that your inner child would be so proud to see. Reiki is a beautiful way to bring your inner child out to play and to remember that we are not our bodies. We may age and our body will expire, but our soul lives forever and our spirit has no age. Never grow old. Listen to the cries of your inner child and be her best friend. A beautiful adventure is waiting.

Negros Oriental is part of the seventh region in the Philippines, where Dumaguete City is its capital city – “the only city by the bay” – and is known for its nickname, “The City of Gentle People”. The province has a lot of tourist destinations as given below:
Mabinay Caves. For adventurers, you can visit the different caves located in Mabinay town. An advance booking is always preferred to determine the tour guides’ schedules. Tourists are not allowed to wander around alone.
Beach resorts. There are a lot of beach resorts in the southern part of the province that include Bacong, Dauin, Zamboanguita and Siaton towns. In the northern part, beach resorts include Sibulan, San Jose and Amlan towns and Tanjay City as well.
Water Falls. Casaroro Falls in Valencia town is very popular as well as the one in Pulang Bato (literally means Red Stone). The latter produces a red substance on the rocks due to some minerals in the water.
Lakes. There is the one named Balinsasayaw Twin Lakes located at San Jose town. Balinsasayaw is a kind of bird in the Philippines. The lakes are twins because they are practically two lakes. So far, the depth of the lakes has never been known. Tourists can do picnics, kayaking and fishing in the lakes. Picture taking is allowed without fee. Another lake is in Siaton named Balanan Lake. It is the largest lake in the province. People can take kayaks and boats to have fun besides fishing and swimming. The lake has a nearby restaurant and villas.
Springs. There is one spring in Valencia town and one in Dauin town. The first is just a small one and the second one has two springs called Baslay.
Hiking destinations. Mount Talinis is the frequently preferred a hiking destination of hikers and mountaineers. It is the highest peak in the province with almost two thousand feet in height. It is said that it has the most difficult mountain trails throughout the country. Another hiking destination is the Japanese Shrine, which is located in Valencia town.
Dolphin watching. You can visit this in Bais City in the northern part of the province.
Diving and snorkeling. Dauin beaches have also diving and snorkeling activities. The most visited places for diving is the Apo Island.
Even though Philippines is considered as one of the “third world” countries in the world, it is very rich in terms of resources such as gold and other minerals, bodies of water like beaches, rivers, lakes, springs, cultures and traditions. It is noted that the country is one of the tourist destinations in the whole world.
