Welcome to episode seven of #BakeOffUndressed with Topless Baker - aka Matt Adlard! It’s the FINAL EPISODE guys - and we’ve come a long way! The week we started this podcast we didn’t know if anyone would even listen, and this week we have an actual real life GBBO contestant from this years show! We’re joined by the lovely Dan Beasley-Harling - who is just as sassy IRL as he seems on the show. We got loads of BTS gossip - much of it too hot for broadcast, and chatted about a slightly controversial final episode. Outdoor baking...really??
Don’t worry guys - GBBO is over for another year, but we’re not going anywhere. Make sure you’re subscribed, following me on social media and checking #BakeOffUndressed on Twitter every hour - as we’re announcing something new and exciting here really soon!
Welcome to episode nine of #BakeOffUndressed with Topless Baker - aka Matt Adlard! We’re recapping last nights #GBBO bakes and dramas. This week was Patisserie Week and it was full of emotions - for both Matt and the contestants. There were tears, cries of WTF and frustrations all over. We had Izy Hossack on the couch today - she wrote her first cookbook at 18 years old (Top with Cinnamon) while studying for her A levels in chemistry, maths and biology. No biggie. We might be secretly related. Listen to the episode to find out how!
Also we’ve learned not to put in any spoilers here - so download the podcast for all the GBBO gossip!
Welcome to episode eight of #BakeOffUndressed with Topless Baker - aka Matt Adlard! We’re recapping last nights #GBBO bakes and dramas. This week was Danish Week and we couldn’t pronounce any of the challenges hence why there were no Hollywood Handshakes. There is a correlation there!
There were tears all round this week but not here on the podcast - where Matt is joined by Ben Ebbrell, one fifth of SORTEDfood, the world’s longest running and original food YouTube channel. Ben is the chef of the group, so he knows his stuff.
A couple of controversies this week - no spoilers here though, listen to the podcast!
Welcome to episode seven of #BakeOffUndressed with Topless Baker - aka Matt Adlard! We’re recapping last nights #GBBO bakes and dramas. This week was the history making Vegan Week, a GBBO first! We had mixed feelings - could this have been done earlier in the series? Did they make the Vegan challenges too challenging? Chickpea juice is called Aquafaba?? Lucky we had friend of the pod (and resident vegan) Sarah Austin as our guest this week to help us better understand how to bake like a vegan.
Sarah is the founder and chief baker at London sweet pie company Three.OneFour (or Pi - geddit?). She creates a mixture of vegan and non-vegan sweet pies and even as a non-vegan you’ll love them all. She knows vegan baking techniques and was super helpful to have in the room to navigate uncharted vegan waters!
Welcome to episode six of #BakeOffUndressed with Topless Baker - aka Matt Adlard! We’re recapping last nights #GBBO bakes and dramas. This week was pastry focused - sweet and savoury (bit controversial). Unfortunately for Matt, it was not Dan’s week at all and we almost had to watch him walk slowly out the door, holding back the tears (us and him)! The surge in Hollywood handshakes continued - we can’t even say anything more about that but check out this serious, investigative report from last weeks guest Scott Bryan: https://www.buzzfeed.com/scottybryan/paul-hollywood-handshakes-too-many
We had the lovely Dr Tamal Ray on the show this week - Great British Bake Off season 6 runner up, TV host, Guardian columnist and actual real life doctor! He came straight from the hospital to record the pod! Dedication! Tamal gave us all loads of behind the scenes goss, insights and made us feel like WE were on bake off with his amazing stories.
Welcome to episode five of #BakeOffUndressed with Topless Baker - aka Matt Adlard! We’re recapping last nights #GBBO bakes and dramas and this week was Spice Week and it was HOT IN THE TENT. We had cardamon, we had cinnamon, we had ginger(mon) and we had Paul Hollywood shakes a plenty. Seriously, what is the value of a Hollywood handshake these days?
Our guest this week is Scott Bryan, Buzzfeed TV editor, unofficial / official Bake Off correspondent and the most knowledgeable Great British Bake Off fan we’ve ever met. Once he finished making memes we talked techniques, recreating showstoppers in your own kitchen, everyone’s favourite baker Rahul and had a Buzzfeed inspired quick fire round - Bae or Bay?
A double elimination left us rattled, a sad end as we said goodbye to a couple of favourites. But onwards and upwards to pastry week!
Welcome to episode four of #BakeOffUndressed with Topless Baker - aka Matt Adlard! We’re recapping last nights #GBBO bakes and dramas. It was Dessert Week, and also the worst week to try and spell any of the bakes (Roulard? Rouland? Blaumonge? Blamang? Who knows…). In a shocking development, Terry had a week off ‘sick’. Really? More like he booked non-refundable Ryanair holiday and didn’t realise he’d make it this far in the show!
This week we hosted Mark Ferris, who was a total delight even if he prefers savoury to sweet. Mark has a super successful YouTube channel where he uploads daily vlogs (for an explanation listen to the podcast!) and he wants to be best friends Kim-Joy.
We got really stressed watching this week as the tasks were extremely challenging - the blancmanges were melting, the chocolate balls were cracking and everyone was just trying to recreate what they’ve seen on Instagram and Pinterest in a desperate attempt to get a Hollywood Handshake.
Welcome to episode 3 of #BakeOffUndressed with Topless Baker - aka Matt Adlard! We’re recapping last nights #GBBO bakes and dramas. This week was bread week, which was put the bakers in all sorts of knots. Terry declared bread was his thing - and then he forgot the filling for his bun and the entire country let out a collective sigh - ohhhhhhh TERRY. But then he won the Naan challenge! Naan! GO TERRY! Dan got a handshake - Paul is handing those out like free breadsticks. And we don’t know what surprised Rahul more - that he can bake, or the pheasants he spotted. Two male pheasants? TWO?
We got to discuss all this and so much more with our lovely guest Benji Ebuehi - 2016 Bake Off quarter finalist, food stylist, blogger, supper club host and all around amazing baker. She gave us some amazing insights into what it’s like to apply for the show, what it’s like in the tent, the pressure, the practice (the outfits) and the advice she has for aspiring bakers (hint - start a blog NOW!).
Also, let us know YOUR Soggy Bottom moment, who would you SPOON, FORK, KNIFE and did you think Rahul deserved star baker? Again?? Use #BakeOffUndressed to join the conversation!
Welcome to episode two of #BakeOffUndressed with Topless Baker - aka Matt Adlard! We’re recapping last nights #GBBO bakes and dramas, and talking a whole lot about fingering your bread. This week’s show was all about cakes - from the basic traybake to Monet's birthday cake and the end showstopper featuring what actually nearly stopped the show - the great British heat wave! Terry is hanging by a thread, Manon dropped the F Bomb and Paul is dishing out handshakes like nobody's business. This week was WILD.
Matt is joined by Niki and Sammy (or Sammy and Niki if we want to be controversial…). YouTubers, podcasters, lovers of K-Pop (Korean pop music to the uninitiated) and better Tweeters than Matt! These hilarious twins consistently veer off the topic at hand (baking) but boy do they have some opinions on the contestants. Because #GBBO is that time of year when we all suddenly become a baking professional and shout at the screen like we’re in an episode Hell's Kitchen … when in reality we keep our bread in the fridge (right Sammy??)
Let us know YOUR Soggy Bottom moment, who would you SPOON, FORK, KNIFE and did you think Rahul deserved star baker? Use #BakeOffUndressed to join the conversation!
Welcome to episode one of #BakeOffUndressed with Topless Baker - aka Matt Adlard! We’re recapping last nights #GBBO bakes and dramas - including crunchy Karen's #snackgate and Dan’s prawn-or-baby selfie biscuit (or is it something else…?).
Matt is joined this week by expert baker Juliet Sear - who you may know as she is the creator of the incredible imperfect bakes for the shows TV adverts and the outstanding “cake-traits” - yes, those cakes shaped like the judges and hosts!
From Soggy Bottom moments to our own Masterbaker and contenders for spoon, fork, knife - we cover it all!
