Hi! I’m Rachelle, based in South Florida, PinkSole highlights my style for both work and play on a budget with some splurge worthy investment pieces. I love stripes, lace, denim, a nice cross-body bag and shoes.
Happy Friday or should I say Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Day. I’m not sick of hearing about the sale because I muted most people who won’t shut up about it lol. I’ve shopped the NSale for the past 3 years and honestly this year I only saw one thing I wanted. I love Rails shirts and I’m getting the black and white one, in a previous post I mentioned that’s one thing I had on my wishlist.
I am really tempted by this J.Crew Leopard bomber, it reminds of my camo bomber I got last year but I live in South Florida and I don’t want to buy anything cold weather related right now.
I noticed a snakeprint version of my current favorite sandals but that’s not something I need or want because I already have them in black and beige. This pair is a very similar style in a few more color options. If you are going to shop this sale, I say stay away from the Nordstrom in house brands, they are basically lower quality for the most part and overpriced, this include Zella leggings, you are better off getting your activewear at Gap. This sale is worth it in my opinion to get designer items on sale, like AG jeans, Good American, Vince, Rails and such. You should still be careful because some designer items are created for the sale ONLY, so it kind of sounds like items that are made for factory stores in my opinion, in that case not sure even the sale price is worth it. If winter is pretty hardcore where you live something like a North Face jacket is totally a great buy on sale.
Happy Book Review Day! I had a great reading month and please feel free to share with me in the comments what you’re reading. I’m always looking for recommendations. I’m joining Steph and Jana to their book link-up. So make sure to check them out to find more book reviews. Let’s get right to it.
After I Do: Lauren and Ryan meet in college and are inseparable since. Ryan turns 30 and they can hardly stand each other. So they decide to take a year break with zero contact from their marriage. This book is not as scandalous as the 7 husbands but I loved it. Filled with good wisdom about relationships and this book surprisingly made me laugh a few times. Verdict: 3.5
Silent Patient: This book is so crazy you guys. Theo is a psychotherapist determined to help a patient who went completely silent after killing her husband. This book has a lot of twists and was so satisfying. I loved it! I cannot say anything more about it, just enjoy! Verdict: 5 Stars
Little Fires Everywhere: So this book got my attention right away, 3/4 into it I started getting bored but then it picked up again. This is my first time reading Celeste Ng, this is one of a few times where the writer went deep into almost all the characters. You may love or hate that and in the end I loved it because it made sense. The story was touching and I highly recommend it. Verdict: 4 Stars
The Flatshare: This book was a delight from start to finish. It is quirky and I just loved the main characters. They are the type of people I would want to be friends with. Tiffy is looking for a new flat on a small budget and respond to an ad of a flatshare with a man. They share the one bedroom apartment but will always be home at different times so they will never get in each other way. They communicate through short notes and soon form a friendship. This is how you write a romantic comedy, it has a happy ending but it is not at all cliché or boring. Verdict: 4.5 Stars
The Friend Zone: I expected this to be brain candy and part of it was but part of it was also heavy. Kristen meets Josh during a fender bender and she finds out that he will be part of her best friend’s bridal party. She has a boyfriend and is trying hard to keep Josh away. It was a great book and I finished it in a day. Verdict: 4 Stars
Jar of Hearts: I read this book in a day, I could not put it down. Geo is on her way to prison for a secret she kept for 14 years. She came clean and is now serving 5 years in prison. Her story though is so much more complicated than that. This was a great thriller. Verdict: 4 Stars
Like A Love Story: Reza moved from Iran to Toronto and is not living in New York with his mom and step dad. It’s 1989 and he’s terrified by the AID crisis. In his new high school he meets Judy that likes him instantly but he definitely has a thing for Judy’s best friend Art that is gay and very open about it. This book was truly wonderful and if you are a Madonna fan, it will be a treat for you. Verdict: 4.5 Stars
How Could She: This book is about 3 friends, Geraldine, the one that everyone worries about, she just broke up with her cheating fiancé and is looking for a new job after impulsively moving to NYC. Rachel, the YA writer and mother with the adorable husband, her writing career is not all that great. Finally, Sylvie the artist with all the success and rich husband. Rachel and Sylvie do not get along but lately they seem to be bonding and leaving Geraldine out of it. This book is about the sometime weird dynamic of female female friendship and I really enjoyed it. Could not put it down. Verdict: 4 Stars
My Oxford Year: Ella is in Oxford for a year and is so excited to be there and soak it all in. She meets Jamie in not the best circumstances and later finds out he’s her professor. Ella is driven and not looking for any attachements, unfortunately things are not as simple as they may seem. Cannot go into this without giving anything away. I liked this book way more than I expected. Verdict: 3.5 Stars.
More Than Enough: Oh I honestly did not plan on reading this book, but I decided to do so after seeing so much buzz about it and I’m glad I did. Elaine did such an amazing job telling her story, from sharing her dreams to work in the magazine industry, being biracial, her love life, being an editor in chief for a major magazine under 30. Her story is nothing like Michelle Obama’s Becoming but it’s as beautifully written. I got the audiobooks and I loved that her parents made several cameo in it. Verdict: 5 Stars
I don’t have pictures of the top two going out outfits, but I’ve worn them so many type and trust me no one can tell. So you need a a cute black top and skinny black jeans for a timeless going out look.
I am so ready for a long weekend and I’m also taking Friday off to fully enjoy this time off. My newsletter will be out on Sunday, so make sure to subscribe. Today I am joining Anne to her link-up.
reading, I just finished My Oxford Year, I am having an amazing reading month so I cannot wait for next week’s book review. I’ve seen this book everywhere so I decided to give in and oh it was not what I expected. I won’t ruin it for you just in case you want to read it.
enjoying, So many things! This gel from Miss Jessie’s, I apply it after my a wash or co wash and it enhances my curls perfectly. If you do get it, make sure not to apply too much.
I was apprehensive about watching season 5 of Black Mirror because that show can be so stressful and scary. This season is only 3 episodes and they are all so good. Honestly they are my favorite episodes of black mirror and they were not spooky. So trust me, go watch them.
finding, the best cropped tee. I love high waist jeans and they look great with cropped t-shirt. The black one I’m wearing above is the same one I’m wearing here in white.
saving, with the digit app. I know I mentioned it before but I’ve used it to build my vacation savings and it’s been amazing. So far I’ve paid all my travel expenses using the money I mindlessly saved within the app.
white shirt // white sneakers // grey tee // black & beige Sandals // kimono
Happy Monday! I’m off Thursday and Friday so I’m excited for this short week. I have a pool party on the fourth. Do you guys have any plans?
I’ve been looking for a pretty slip dress since last year. There’s tons out there but I had several requirements, as far as fabric, cut, length and most of all price.
These dresses are so simple, if the material is a shiny polyester blend, the dress can easily look cheap. I got one under $30 on Amazon and it looked really cheap, so I knew I wanted silk. I am curvy so a short slip dresses can easily look inappropriate on me, but I knew I didn’t want a midi or long dress. I don’t want it to look like I’m wearing a night gown or overly dressy. A lot of slip dress are cut straight, I wanted mine to be taken in at the waist so that I don’t look like I’m wearing a sack. All these are easy to find but finding all these requirements at the right price is not so easy. Here are a few options I looked at.
I then found Silk Laundry on instagram and this pic convinced me I found the perfect slip dress and thankfully it was $123, a price point I was comfortable with. I was apprehensive because shipping was kinda expensive and this is a brand I wasn’t familiar with but I went for it. I’m usually a medium but decided to go with a large, it’s slightly oversize but it’s still perfect on, I don’t want that type of dress to be clingy on me.
I loved my black slip dress so much that a couple weeks ago I got this print as well, I was looking at the ones below as well but ultimately went with the other. I’ve done all he research for you, if you are looking for a classic simple slip dress, trust me this is a good one.
Hey guys! I’m back with another book post, this time it’s all about the best audiobooks. Many of you probably have road trips planned and it’s the best time to listen to a great audiobook. I have a road trip coming up and I know I’ll be listening to Maybe You Should Talk To Someone again. Here are some of my favorite audiobooks that will have at the edge of your seat.
I don’t know how this is the last week of June but here we are. Things have changed drastically here, it went from nice warm weather to hell-ish weather. I’ve mostly been inside and don’t go out unless I absolutely have to, the older I get the less tolerance I have for outdoorsy activities in this heat.
Eating: Nothing special, I started getting my grocery delivered through Amazon prime now and it’s been great. Now I no longer browse the aisles therefore I’m less tempted to try random things. It’s been great on my wallet. Did you guys see the Smash the Wellness Industry in the NYT? It was written by novelist Jessica Knoll. She was also on the Diet Starts Tomorrow podcast, I enjoyed her interview.
Loving: This new body moisturizer I got at Target, I apply as soon as I get out the shower and my skin loves it. I love that Target has a wider variety of beauty brands now.
Up to: Redefining this blog, lately I feel less and less like doing fashion related posts. I do enjoy sharing a cute outfit, if I wore one recently. For the most part the less I shop, the less attention I pay to what’s new. Which makes it hard to come up with fashion related posts weekly. So I’m trying to find a balance for now.
Watching: Euphoria and Big Little Lies season 2, I’m also happy Younger is back. I love that show!
Excited: About Friday’s post, it’s about books and I’m excited to do more non fashion posts.
It’s officially Summer but then again it’s always Summer in South Florida. Here, it’s to the point where jeans are unbearable and denim shorts are a must. I do however have a few Summer staples I’m excited to wear every season.
These are my favorite short shorts, I’ve had them for a while now and I also have them in black and white. I used to have a lot of denim shorts but now that I know the exact styles that I like, I’ve been able to narrow them down. I also have this pair, that’s the one I’m wearing here.
Slides have always been around but I feel like the past couple of years they’ve made them cuter and cuter. I have a few pairs and I’ve gotten a lot of wear out of them. I’m always so tempted to get a new pair but I’m resisting so far.
I’m all about the wedges and chunky heels. This pair was a splurge and I never regretted that purchase. They make me really tall and are comfortable. They look great with jeans, shorts, mini skirts and dresses.
Happy Friday! I am so excited for today’s post. I know I already do a monthly book review but if you don’t read nearly as much as I do, I want to make it easier for you to find a new fun read if you are a bit overwhelmed.
If you are looking for a light read, the right amount of drama to enjoy this Summer, this list is for you. I’ve read and thoroughly enjoy every single one of these books and a few of them I’ve read twice. I’ve reviewed them all before via my book reviews and I added a bonus below that I will fully review next month.
Summer Hours – Old friends with lots of history and a big secret are reunited on a road trip.
The Accidental Beauty Queen – a beauty queen gets her nerdy sister to take her place at a pageant. Things quickly get complicated when the sister falls for one of the judges.
The Kiss Quotient – A girl on the spectrum is looking for love in an unconventional way.
The Hating Game – Enemies at work but all the animosity is really masking deeper feelings. It’s going to be a movie starring Lucy Hale.
The Unhoneymooners – She gets stuck on a trip her sister’s husband that she cannot stand and he’s not too fond of her either.
The Proposal – After an awkward proposal at a baseball game, a girl get rescued by her possible next love interest.
Meet Cute – Imagine meeting your teenage crush in college and you actually get to become friends and more.
One Day in December – After an intense missed connection, when she sees him again, he is dating her best friend.
The Idea of You – A tween mom falls in love with a guy in her daughter’s favorite boy band. This one is so juicy.
Royal We – I’m not a royal addict and I loved this. American girl is in England for college and of course lots of fun but end up with the next heir to the throne. It is no fairytale.
Hey guys! Summer is here, actually officially Friday. Which means it’s incredibly hot in South Florida and we get a lot of rain. I still love this season because I’m usually a lot more social.
I did this post way back, sharing tips to sale on eBay. I currently have another round of eBay going on after my last decluttering session, just in time for the new season and I did pretty well the first week. The tips I shared in 2014 are still accurate. Now that I know more what I like and actually wear, that’s why I needed to do another round. For example, I had a lot of sunglasses and usually alternate between the same 5 pairs, so I parted ways with the rest. I had three Quay sunglasses and was pleasantly surprised to see that they did really well on eBay. I also let go of a few jeans, shorts, sneakers and bags. This is a reminder that this is a great time reevaluate what you have and need.
Earlier this year however I did get a few new stuff, including the dress above. It was sold out but recently came back in all colors. I still love it and plan on taking it with me to San Francisco. It will look cute with my white sneakers, a similar look for less are these adorable Keds.
My main goal this Summer though is to keep the shopping to a minimum and so far so good. That’s why I have not been doing shopping posts, I’m sure like me you all have all the clothes that one could possibly need. Also I often end up buying items because I found them while researching for a post. I don’t want to encourage behaviors that I’m trying to curb myself. I still have a shopping budget but I’m currently saving it for a splurge later this year. I’ve loved my Gucci slides so much that I really want a regular version, not sure if I’ll go through with the purchase, I may change my mind after a couple months.
I’ve been so tempted lately to buy this dress or that bag but I keep reminding myself that this impulse is not good. That’s how I end up with packages coming on a weekly basis before. I’m really trying to break this habit and I don’t want this blog to be about encouraging mindless consumerism. Buying something you really like or need is totally ok but I feel like it shouldn’t be a weekly thing. I’m good with getting one non essential monthly.
I say I wouldn’t give in to any true crime podcast but here we are. I started listening to “To Live and Die in LA” and I am hooked.
I just finished reading The Flatshare, it is the perfect Summer read. Isn’t the cover adorable? I love when a book has a cute cover.
I’m finally catching up to the latest episodes of Patriot Act, still so funny and most of all informative.
