Can sleeping on a silk pillowcase really make that much of a difference to your hair and skin? Many hairstylists, dermatologists, and beauty experts say yes!
It’s hard to believe that changing something so small could be the difference between waking up like Beetlejuice or a Victoria’s Secret model but Philocaly Silk pillowcases truly are an 8 hour beauty regimen for your hair and skin.
We are SO excited to announce that we will be launching our silk pillowcase collection come March. Like everything we do at Philocaly, our silk pillowcases will be of the highest quality. Philocaly silk pillowcases are the ultimate combination of shine, thickness, softness and durability. We use the highest grade (6A) long fiber mulberry silk, with a thickness of 22 momme.
So why sleep on a Silk Pillowcase?
In short, silk pillow cases are anti bed head, anti aging, anti sleep crease, hydrating and the list goes on. Lets dive into more detail on how a silk pillow case can do all this and more!
BYE BYE BEDHEAD
As cotton isn’t a smooth surface it can tug at the individual strands of hair which causes breakage, split ends and static. The friction from moving around in your sleep is what causes ‘bed head’ that super messy, knotty hairdo you wake up with in the morning. Switching to silk could help to prevent this and keep your hair smoother and knot free throughout the night as well as preventing damage.
If you find you’re going to bed with squeaky clean locks but waking up greasy your cotton pillowcase could be the culprit. Its super absorbing powers suck up the sebum your scalp produces so to compensate it makes even more, making your hair greasy. Switching to silk will keep your skin balanced and hair looking fresh as well as prolonging the need to wash and heat style.
As a silk pillowcase is cooler and causes less friction you can prolong a salon blowout or hairstyle for way longer. This is great for the overall health of your hair as you won't have to wash or heat style as often preventing damage.
YOUNG AND FRESH FOREVER
We’re moving off the topic of hair for a second but this is a serious benefit to making the silk pillowcase switch that’s worth mentioning. Sleeping on a silk pillow can actually help to prevent wrinkles, blemishes and dry skin too. When you wake up with creases on your cheeks those can eventually turn into fully formed crevices after years of dreaming face down. Rocking up to work with a creased cheek is a tell tale sign you slept in too and if nothing else it’s worth it for those mornings alone. If you have oily skin they work wonders for keeping spots at bay also. Just like it stops your hair getting greasy a silk pillowcase regulates your moisture levels overnight preventing spots.
Philocaly Silk pillowcases are amazing for ladies with our without hair extensions! We are so excited to share our premium silk collection with you this March!

At Philocaly, we are all about keeping up with current trends, which is why we are so excited to jump on the hand-tied weft wagon! Our collection of hand-tied wefts will officially launch February 2019, however we are excited to get our valued customers all caught up on what they can expect from this new method prior to their launch.
What are hand-tied wefts?
Hair is individually hand-tied onto a hand-sewn weft by an experienced technician. This attention to detail ensures that hair is strongly secured and does not shed. Hand tied wefts are thinner, flatter, and more flexible than machine-tied wefts, allowing the hair extensions to lay closer to the scalp and provide a more natural look and feel.
Will Philocaly hand-tied wefts be comparable in quality to Philocaly tape-ins?
Absolutely! Philocaly only uses 100% Russian Remy, single donor, silicone-free, cuticle in-tact, human hair in all of our products.
How are Philocaly hand-tied wefts applied?
Your Philocaly verified stylist will create beaded rows and then proceed to weave Philocaly hand-tied wefts to the beads and subsequently your natural hair. Because beads are used, there are less points of contact with your natural hair than any other semi-permanent method on the market. Not only does this maintain the health of your hair but also results in ultimate comfort.
How often do I need to have my hand-tied wefts tightened?
Similar to tape-in extensions, you will need tightening appointments every 6 to 8 weeks (dependant on how fast your hair grows). At these appointments your stylist will remove the extensions, reapply the same extension hair and touch up your cut for blending.
How much are Philocaly hand-tied wefts?
Philocaly hand-tied wefts are sold in packages of 4 wefts (10" each). Each package comes with 60 grams of hair. 2-3 packages are recommended for a full application. We stock 18-20" and custom orders can be made for shorter and longer lengths.
Highlighted and standard shades: $275 per package
Ombré shades: $325 per package
How much can I expect to pay for application?
Because hand-tied wefts take more time to apply than tape-ins, you can expect to pay more for application with this method. A consultation is recommended with your Philocaly verified stylist to determine total costs. Expect to pay anywhere between $200 and $300 for installation, however prices vary by stylist.
What are the main differences between hand-tied wefts and tape-ins?
We are firm believers that no one method is perfect for everyone which is why it is important to have a thorough consultation with your Philocaly verified stylist to determine the best method for you! The main differences that you should be aware of are as follows:
Although Philocaly uses hypoallergenic glue on our tape-ins, it is still possible for people with extreme sensitivities to experience reactions. Hand-tied wefts use no adhesives making them an ideal method for those who are concerned or are prone to allergic reactions.
Both methods are completely damage free and a great option for fine and thin haired clients.
Because no adhesives are used with hand-tied wefts, you do not need to worry about specific products making your extensions slip and/or prematurely breaking down the tabs. Products with sulfate and conditioner usage directly on the tabs are an absolute no no with tape-in hair extensions.
Regardless how well you care for your tape-ins, over time (9-12 months) the tabs will eventually begin to break down. Philocaly hand tied extensions have a longer life span of 12+ months since no adhesives are used.
Hand-tied wefts take longer to apply than tape-in extensions which results in more time in your stylists chair and more of an investment for application.
If top knots, ponytails and certain hairstyles are important to you, hand-tied wefts could be a better option as they are easier to conceal when wearing your hair up!
Whether you're looking for a natural or ultra glam result, Philocaly has a variety of lengths to suit the look you want to achieve.
16-18 inch hair extensions: mid-length hair extensions, a good choice if your own hair is short to mid-length.
18-20 inch hair extensions: a versatile length and also our most popular length of hair extensions.
Lengths available for custom order (We do not stock custom orders at our warehouse. Custom orders are taken upon request and take 4-6 weeks to bring in):
20-22 inch, 22-24 inch or 24-26 inch hair extensions: for super-long hair extensions; this is a very long hair extension length extending to below the waist.
Our hair extensions come already trimmed for a healthier and thicker appearance. The length will be within a 2-inch range, i.e. 16–18-inch hair extensions will be trimmed within 16-18 inches and not any shorter. This means that you will not need to trim the ends of your new hair extensions (unless you decided to) as they will be beautiful from day one.
If you’re ready for a hair change, you’re in the right place. Every year, a new wave of trends sweeps the nation. In summer 2018, nothing is off limits! Check out five of our favourite looks to rock on the beach, by the bonfire or wherever this summer takes you! That is, if you are daring enough.
1. Back with a Bang: Hair trends come and go, but there’s one classic look that always makes a comeback: bangs. Whether they’re thick and blunt or side-swept and effortless, a little bit of fringe is the perfect way to shake things up in the beauty department.
2. Millennial Pink: If you're looking for a total revamp in your hair color this season, look no further. Millennial pink is the most talked about colour trend of the year, and one look at Instagram proves that it's moving to hair as well.
3. Amethyst Roots: The newest trend is here. If you aren’t ready to dive in to a complete bold color hair transformation but you’ve always admired the rainbow-colored hairstyles, then this trend is the perfect one for you! The result is a dark-to-light effect that fades from purple to a shade of aquamarine and a light pink opal at the ends. This trend was started by Las Vegas hairstylist Chita Beseau, and is an easy way to extend the life of your colour between touch ups!
4. Octopus Bun: This is a super easy way to elevate your top-knot for summer to get your hair off your neck and out of your face. The octopus bun is essentially your average messy bun, except at the end, you leave a few of the ends of your hair sticking out of the elastic. These ends will should be about the same length and all around the bun rather than in just one place. Spice it up a bit more by adding texture such as an extra curl, super straight strands or even crimped.
5. Space Buns: Double buns or space buns were the ‘it’ hairstyle of the 90’s—and have officially made their comeback now. Music festivals are the perfect occasion for you to go all out and make a statement with your hair in space buns!
