And just like that, it's the end. Here we are on our last day of Kindergarten. It's been an incredible year full of wonderful memories. I just wanted to take this time to thank each and every one of you (parents) for your understanding and patience, your smiles and support. You have been a dream team and I have loved getting to know you all along with your kids. They are such a special bunch because of you! Thank you for all the kind gifts and heartfelt cards. Your words mean so much to me. I wish you all the most wonderful summer, full of adventures, fun and an abundance of time together. We watched the Grade 7 Farewell Assembly today...my son will be there next year (yikes!) and Kindergarten feels like it was just a heartbeat ago. Time is precious. Enjoy!
these are the photos I took on our very first day together way back in September. Some were full of personality, for others it took some time for their true personalities to shine...but shine they did! It's startling to see how much all of the kids have grown and changed in 10 short months. They are taller, stronger, some have fewer teeth, some have bigger teeth, some are able to communicate more effectively, some are better able to express emotions and solve problems with friends. They have learned about so many things (too many to list). They have persevered and overcome challenges. They have set goals and worked hard to achieve them. They have formed strong friendships, gained confidence, and learned to work together as a team...no a family. They have laughed, giggled, and even cried. Each and every one of them is special and unique and wonderful, together they are unstoppable! It has been my extreme honour to spend these 10 months with this incredible group of people. I know they are going to go great places! Stay tuned for tomorrow's photos to see just how we have grown....our last day photos....
We spent some time working with a partner printing ABCs and 123s today. It was so wonderful to see how the groups negotiated the work together. Some took turns, some had one person writing the capital letters and the other writing the lower case letters. Some decided that if the letter was in your name, you got to write it. There was a great deal of ABC song singing and talking about what comes next.
some people found numbers in the environment and used them as a guide to help with printing....so clever!
These kids have come so far this year! I'm starting to feel all the feels of the end of the year. I just want to let you know that I have enjoyed every second I've spent with your lovely kids. They truly are a special bunch: they are kind, curious, understanding, thoughtful, smart, empathetic, and funny. They will each hold a special place in my heart forever. I should warn you that saying good-bye is hard for me and this year will be one of the hardest! Ok, deep breaths! See you tomorrow!
We had a lovely day at the water park! These kids really are THE best! Thanks to all of the parents for volunteering to drive and help out today. An especially big thank you to Yolanda for organizing the popsicles for all three classes. They were such a great treat.
Today was our last km Club run of the year. I tried to take photos of everybody as they ran by, but some were so speedy that I may have missed them.
Look at all of the Kms we earned today!
Our final km numbers ranged all the way to 100!! Everybody did so well!
Today, we were visited by the librarians from the City Library. They told us all about the summer reading club. I didn't manage to send home the brochure with more information. Your child will be bringing it home on Monday.
We also had a visit from Hayden today. He is from the Young Actors Project and he taught us drama for a little over an hour today. This was our third session with Young Actors and we had so much fun. (The other two sessions took place on days when Mrs. McGladdery was teaching).
First we did the silly chair game, where we had to sit on a chair in a new and interesting way....
(some people did not want to volunteer for a turn)
Then we explored feelings and moved around the carpet while converting different emotions. This is happy....
Over night, two more butterflies emerged from their chrysalises. We thought only one would because one feel to the bottom of the butterfly house (we didn't think that one would successfully form) but we were delighted to find two this morning.
We tried to give everyone a turn to hold the two butterflies, but they were not cooperating! One of the butterflies had a misshaped wing and had a tough time flying, so we took photos with it while it rested on the ground.
Then I managed to get it to go on my hand and thought we would try one more time and.....success! Everyone who didn't get a turn yesterday got a turn today. We were very happy about it!
Then we placed him gently on a plant and gave him our good wishes!
We had a guest birthday boy reader today. It was a long book and he did a fantastic job!
My pictures are all out of order today....not sure why, but we will just go with it!
We watched the Brooksbank bands play this afternoon.
Some morning building
The butterflies fluttered away this morning. We tried really hard to give everyone a chance to hold a butterfly but they were not at all cooperative (the butterflies, that is). The wind was blowing slightly and I think their wings were tickled and they wanted to fly. We thought they were overly attracted to the flowers in the garden, so one student suggested we move somewhere where there were no flowers, so they couldn't want to fly. (What a wonderful suggestion!) So we went up to the grass field to see if that made a difference. unfortunately it didn't. Only 6 of us were able to hold a butterfly. The kids were very understanding (and also understandably disappointed). We have one butterfly that has yet to emerge from its chrysalis so we hope to have another try tomorrow. Stay tuned.....
There is one of our little friends drinking nectar on the flowers....can you see it?
We had two guest readers today who did a wonderful job sharing books with the class!
My son's baseball team is in the playoffs and they keep winning so I have had very little time to post photos this week! (Go Cardinals!) Next week, things should be back to normal!
Here's a look at Y sharing

Some great building this week.....
We had two guest readers on Thursday and one on Friday. If the kids have a book that they have been practicing at home that they would like to read to the class, there are a couple of times each day that they can do that. We are going to let everyone who wants a turn go first and then if others want to read a second time, we will do that if there is no-one else waiting for a first turn.
These kids did such a great job, reading with enthusiasm and expression (so impressive). I think you can see from the photos that they really enjoyed themselves. So did the audience!
some more great building.....
Today we did some dancing in the class. This is the beanbag boogie. We listened to the song and followed the lyrics....it was so much fun!
