I am the Children’s Pastor of Quail Springs Baptist Church in Oklahoma City where I love and teach preschoolers, children and their parents. I enjoy speaking all around the nation to train children’s ministry leaders and parents. We help overwhelmed children’s ministry leaders get clarity, confidence and the resources they need to win at reaching kids for Jesus.
My teachers bring Pinterest into the classroom, but it doesn’t always support the Bible study! Our time is limited with our kids, so we need resources and ideas that are new, fun, fresh and most of all, easy. At Mr. Mark’s Classroom, a team of Children’s Ministers have joined together to create a resource that helps!
This is a monthly resource with 20 pages of classroom gold! One subscription and you are set! It comes to your email the first of each month and you can make copies for every teacher you have. That’s right, one email and freedom to copy all you want for your teachers. There are parenting tips as well so plan to give copies to your parents too.

I sometimes worry that I say, “Be prepared.” too much. The truth is, I know what it feels like to walk into a room unprepared and try to “wing-it.” You think you know the Bible story and you probably do, but you don’t have your act together and the kids can sniff it out pretty fast. They are smart at detecting an impostor.
I know how great it feels when I’ve prepared ahead and gathered the items needed, and have my classroom set up for a great time. I truly anticipate the fun we will have together and the joy I get from teaching the Bible.
So, be prepared. I hope this video helps with organizing your preparation before class. You have been given a wonderful gift of teaching children. Use it wisely!
It is time to get the word out about Vacation Bible School! Help your kids make these terrific invitations to give to friends and neighbors so more kids will know about the wonderful week you are planning. As school is finishing up, our numbers at church have a tendency to run less so having this mission idea ready to put together only makes sense. Watch this video and be inspired to get your kids involved and inviting other kids to VBS. They can register online and join the fun as we learn about Jesus and the incredible gift of salvation He offers to everyone!
Be sure to check out all of the VBS decorations at Mr. Mark’s Classroom. Our supplies are running low and you don’t want to miss getting these posters to make your decorating easy!
Yesterday, I spoke to a children’s minister in Kentucky. She is wanting to introduce Bible Drill during the summer and I cautioned her. Yes, I believe the kids should be memorizing Bible verses and learning the books of the Bible, but have a soft launch during summer. Begin with learning how the Bible is organized (Old and New Testaments, divisions, chapters, verses). Start in the beginning with the first five Books of Law for a few weeks then add the next 12 Books of History and then continue. Always play games that race to find books and verses. Teach a memory verse with a great reward like a water gun fight outside when everyone can recite Genesis 1:1 then move to more challenging verses.
Below is a printable copy of the sword drill that we used this year. It will give you the script for calling the drills. This could be great fun for the summer and might even continue into the fall with LifeWay’s Bible Skills, Drills and Thrills. These are available in your local store and online. Bottom line- Have fun learning Bible Skills and they will come back and learn more.
This is gold if you are looking to create the VBS snacks suggested in LifeWay’s VBS- Game ON!
Pat Murphy is such a blessing to Oklahoma Baptists and she has prepared this tip sheet again this year to assist our churches in VBS snacks. We are so grateful for the help and suggestions. I attached it below so you can print it off and share with your snack servers at VBS this year.
Don’t forget to order your Stadium stage scene at Mr. Mark’s Classroom while supplies last because they are going fast. Its hard to believe school will be out in less than a month. Get ready for VBS because it’s almost here!
This activity can be used to learn letters, words, small phrases, and short bible verses.
Write a letter, name, or short phrase on paper. Be sure to make the letters large enough that a child can stick dots on the lines. Give each child a sheet of colorful dots. Direct them to place dots on the letters.
I was given this little book a month or so ago and didn’t think much about it until I began to read it. I think this book might be helpful when I am working with a child making steps toward accepting God’s gift of salvation. I recommend you look at a copy and see if it fits any needs you have with families. It’s brand new! Check out “Notes from Jesus” written by Mikal Keefer.
These large posters fill the room and are safe on sheetrock type of wall surfaces. Also, they can be removed safely with no damage. If you plan to reuse the decoration posters for other wall surfaces, leave the protective film on the back and secure it to the wall with MavalusTape. *Note- do not stick to white erasable marker boards.
Three Dimensional Props
Create an outstanding scene using easy to make 3-D Props that can stand alone.
Cut away any extra cardboard and score down the edge of the locker corner (dotted line). Be careful not to cut all the way through. Bend back the side of the locker so it will stand on its own. *Note- Foam sheet material will not bend and will need to be secured with packing tape on the back to be able to stand alone.
Repeat with the other lockers and stand up together. Tape it from behind to join the lockers together. Folds flat for easy moving and storage.
Cut away any extra cardboard and score down the edge of the locker corners of the trophy case. Be careful not to cut all the way through. Bend back the side of the locker so it will stand on its own. *Note- Foam sheet material will not bend and will need to be secured with packing tape on the back to be able to stand alone.
I am hearing more and more how children’s ministers are providing events for Fathers and Daughters or Mothers and Sons. I chose to plan an event for these two groups in my church, as well as for Fathers and Sons and Mothers and Daughters. Yes, there are four events on our calendar now. I didn’t want to add them at first since we have so much already happening at church, but I noticed how parents were sending their children to classes and never crossing our path.
It is hard to build relationships with parents when they don’t come around our hallway. I want these adults to know me and my team, so they can see our leadership and we can build trust with them. I’m convinced they will never work in our ministry if they don’t know us and trust us. We want to involve them so we need to know them. That’s why we are having these events. Form groups to plan the events and experience the events together. There have been some sweet times and beautiful memories during these events and I recommend you listen to this podcast to hear the details.
