A lifestyle and parenting blog of Berlin Domingo to initially cope up with – what she thought – the boredom of staying at home. Life is indeed full of adventures and lessons learned, and now she is ready to embrace all challenges with an open heart and loving hands. Follow her journey here as she writes all the feats and what she considers the never misses of a life of one momi. It is her..
Two weeks ago, we visited our Pediatrician for the kids’ monthly checkup. Our 18-mo-old boy was also scheduled for his Varicella Virus vaccine. Upon reaching her clinic, our Pedia checked my son’s baby book and asked us if we would like her to give MMR (mumps, measles, and rubella) instead. She was concerned because of the current measles outbreak. We both agreed that she would administer MMR on our next visit.
It is reassuring to know that we have a Pedia who shows concern to her patients. And with the current measles outbreak in the Philippines, it is comforting to learn as well that the pediatric doctors all over the country have come together to launch an advocacy aimed at restoring confidence in the safety and efficacy of vaccines. Many parents became less trusting of vaccines following the fatal impact of the Dengvaxia scare. And sadly, the distrust resulted in outbreaks of diseases other than dengue, notably measles.
A trust-vaccination movement dubbed #SavetheFuture
Recently, I witnessed the launch of the “Save The Future” campaign of The Pediatric Infectious Disease Society of the Philippines (PIDSP). The campaign aims to mobilize PIDSP members to cooperate and collaborate with government stakeholders in making the most of the available vaccine resources and to deploy them properly and effectively. An online community has also been created at www.facebook.com/SaveTheFuturePH to help drive digital awareness about the campaign.
Gathered inside the spacious Grand Ballroom of the Crowne Plaza Galleria Manila in Ortigas were PIDSP members as well as other subspecialty societies of the Philippine Pediatric Society (PPS). The PPS, established in 1947, is the oldest medical society of physicians caring for newborns, infants, children, and adolescents in the Philippines.
Pedia doctors launch #SavetheFuture Campaign
The professional responsibility to #SavetheFuture
This mother admired how PIDSP president Dr. Anna Lisa T. Ong-Lim took a stand and claimed professional responsibility in addressing the issue of vaccine hesitancy among Filipino parents. She challenged the pediatric doctors of the same responsibility. PIDSP and PPS also issued a joined letter to its member-doctors and the Department of Health (DOH) urging them to “immunize eligible children against vaccine-preventable diseases.” This primarily involves the routine immunization schedule for infants that vaccinate against tuberculosis, diphtheria-pertussis-tetanus, polio, Hemophilus influenza B, hepatitis B and measles from birth to the first year of life.
Likewise, the organizations reminded pediatricians to ensure up-to-date immunization of their patients as part of the primary responsibility of their individual practices. Thus, perhaps, our Pedia doesn’t get tired of constantly reminding us of our children’s vaccination schedule.
The campaign to #SavetheFuture
And in particular response to the current measles outbreak, PPS and PIDSP advised pediatricians to administer the first dose of measles vaccine to infants starting at the age of six months instead of the usual nine months. The schedule follows the country’s recommended Childhood Immunization Schedule. The schedule is determined annually by both societies along with the Philippine Foundation for Vaccination.
Pedia doctors launch #SavetheFuture Campaign
The program ended with all being optimistic that with working together, the organizations will effectively address the healthcare crises that has gripped our country. I am confident that PPS and PIDSP, with the help of DOH, will set eliminating measles and other diseases as their priority goal. And every time we visit our Pediatrician, I could feel and see PPS and PIDSP’s commitment to freeing the Filipino children from any kind of disease. As a mother now, I am appealing to other parents never to doubt the power of vaccination. Immunization not only saves us time and money, but it also protects our loved ones and even saves our child’s life. Vaccination protects the next generation and saves the future. Let us be part of this campaign.
I am not a soda person; thus I discourage my children from drinking one. I love fruit shakes more than any carbonated drink. Or I would prefer iced tea next to the water. This mother always finds a cola beverage the unhealthy option.
If we have anything grilled for lunch or dinner, we, however, would have soft drinks on our dining table. And my boys would always associate having those drinks like a big feast already. Perhaps because we seldom have carbonated beverages at home.
Carbonated Drink is Rarely an Option
Not until we tasted something new.
My husband came from a reunion. He mentioned a new soda brand he happened to taste. He can’t articulate how to better describe this cola than “swabe sa lalamunan.”
I didn’t give much notice to his kwento. Soda beverages didn’t interest me.
Then he brought home a few cases of the carbonated drink he was making bida. We had pizza and pasta that day so the boys enjoyed them with the new cola drink. However, there weren’t pizza and pasta anymore, and yet I have noticed I keep on refilling the ref with a stock of that soda in can. The boys must have been enjoying the drinks very much that I need to remind them of the unhealthy benefits of carbonated beverages. Before my sermon, though, I grabbed a jar of cookies and a can of Sinalco Cola. Time to give my verdict.
The Carbonated Drink with No Alcohol
The taste of Sinalco – the soda drink husband brought home for us to try – isn’t too overpowering. And I couldn’t agree more with husband’s description that this soda drink is swabe sa lalamunan. It doesn’t have the intense flavor nor leaves that tingly sensation that hurts my throat whenever I drink the more popular choice. It gives a genuinely refreshing feel especially when ice cold. Surprisingly as well, it doesn’t hurt my stomach nor gives me that bloated feeling. Sinalco is way better tasting than any the carbonated drinks.
From readings, I learned that Sinalco is the oldest soft drink brand in Europe. It was first marketed in 1920 and was produced by Sinalco International Germany. Its name is from the Latin word “sine alcohole” which means “no alcohol.”
The Carbonated Drink of Our Choice
In 2017, Euro Interbev Corp brought the brand to the Philippine market. In a country where its people have soft drinks almost every meal, I think Sinalco has excellent chances to establish its following. Banking on its uniquely distinct taste and the use of natural sugarcane sweetener, Sinalco will surely find its niche market.
That Swabe sa Lalamunan Taste is what Makes Sinalco Cola My Choice
And how I wish more people will come to know, search, and taste Sinalco Cola. It changed my outlook about the carbonated drink. I bet, once you’ve tasted it as well, you will surely drop your favorite soda and favor Sinalco. This doesn’t mean though that I now drink carbonated beverage every meal. I still prefer water than any soda. But if I am to choose among the sea of carbonated drinks, I would always opt for Sinalco.
In a country where drinking soft drinks have become a blue-collar tradition, it is easy to distinguish the soda that gives such excellent taste. But don’t take my word for it. Grab a can now of Sinalco at the nearest 7 11 or select supermarkets like Puregold and have your own proof of swabe sa lalamunan taste and feel.
Philippine Bonsai Society and SM Supermalls Partner in Bringing Green Malling Experience
This mother believes that that best way to teach kids about life is to show how we live it. Of course, it helps as well if there are constant reminders aside from our guidance.
Just this afternoon, I visited The Podium at Mandaluyong City. There are beautiful and impressive bonsai arts on display on the ground floor and second level of the mall. As I look at each plant, I couldn’t help but equate bonsai pruning to navigating life.
How is that possible? Let me go slow.
A vision for a bonsai
A bonsai is a shrub or tree grown in a pot and is prevented from reaching its standard size through regular trimming. Some bonsai collectors include creative styling in dwarfing their tree. Others perhaps apply real-life pointers to make their bonsai a work of art.
In growing a Tugas (Molave), for instance, we need to set a picture in our mind how we envision the tree to look like. That look is most likely our vision for the plant. Same with living a purposeful life, we need to set a vision. Everyday struggles may tempt us to give up, but again, to live our purpose, we need to stand up for our vision.
Trimming the Tugas needs a direction to achieve the look we envision it to have. We can’t snip away aimlessly as if removing a sheep’s wool in all direction. Again, there should be a vision. And to achieve that vision, we need to apply discipline and be in control.
Bringing the green malling experience
I heard and saw that discipline from the bonsai enthusiasts and experts I met at The Podium that same day. Many of them narrated that growing a bonsai isn’t a walk in a park. One must be in control of the hands holding the pruning tool and has the discipline to do it regularly.
These enthusiasts are part of the group called Philippine Bonsai Society, Inc. (PBSI). The group started in 1973 as an informal organization of enthusiasts until they became a non-stock, non-profit association in 1975. Now, PBSI is internationally recognized with close to 500 active members. Their followings are growing especially in the provincial bonsai clubs.
PBSI members are at The Podium to witness the launch of Sanib Pwersa, the partnership between their group and SM Supermalls. The two giant bodies join forces in promoting their environmental advocacy by bringing the green malling experience to the mallgoers. Aside from the exhibits, there will be shows and workshops to be led by local and international bonsai experts.
A purpose of teaching my boys about life
As Sanib Pwersa also aims to elevate the bonsai art to a broader audience, exhibits and shows across all SM Malls in the country are scheduled in the coming months. And this March 22 to 25, three Japanese art disciplines will be featured at the event at the SM North EDSA. There will also be rare bonsai species on display same with a genus of over 700 species of edible fruit trees and evergreen trees and shrubs.
Upon hearing this, I made a mental note to bring my boys at SM North EDSA on either March 23 or 24. I would want them to see the beauty of a bonsai. Likewise, I want to explain to them through the exhibit that life, like bonsai, is a constant learning experience. We grow beautifully following a vision we have in mind and taking in control to live on purpose.
The Similarities of Bonsai and Human Life
Are you interested to see some of the most beautiful and rare bonsai species? SM Supermalls will start displaying them in the coming months. You may also visit The Podium or SM The Block North EDSA to jumpstart your bonsai exhibit viewing. Or for more information about bonsai arts and the SM Supermalls-PBSI partnership, visit www.smsupermalls.com.
Our two toddlers were hospitalized about three months ago. Both suffered from acute gastroenteritis. Aside from frequent vomiting, they also experienced diarrhea. Their stomach was irritated and inflamed caused by either bacterial or viral infection. They stayed in the hospital for nearly a week and took their medication at home for two weeks.
So when one of our boys was showing signs of stomach flu last week, I was worried about another hospital confinement. However, husband and I both agreed that we take care of our little man at home. We just can’t take the sight of our son’s limited movement because of the swero. Much so accept the cry of our baby because of the many attempts to find a vein for the IV insertion. It was just too much.
On days our little man didn’t eat anything, I gave him plenty of water and fruit juices. I cut fruits into small pieces and patiently fed him those. We also did unli-latch almost every day.
His watery diarrhea improved on the fifth day. Timely that we need to replenish our diaper supply. I asked my husband to buy us a low-cost brand and another pack of our favorite Pampers. I was thinking, with the cheaper brand, we get to save money. Plus I wanted to take the Pamper’s “Less Palit, More Sulit” Challenge.
The challenge is to use another brand of a diaper on the first day and Pampers on the second day. We allocated six diapers each on both days, and we recorded how much pads we actually used from morning to evening. We were consistent on both days to change diapers as soon as the old one gets saggy.
SumoSam and Momi Berlin took the “Less Palit, More Sulit” Challenge
On the first day of the challenge, we were able to use all six diapers in one day. The low-quality diaper became bulky because of poor absorption. My child’s pee and poo weren’t evenly distributed. This caused the wetness to be concentrated in just one part of the diaper. The extra weight was what created the bulk, sagging between his legs and causing the diaper to become lawlaw. The added weight of the diaper plus the sagging pad made it extra challenging for my son to move around. I saw him walked slowly, sometimes parang sakang. There was a time, too, he woke him up from his sleep because I was changing his diaper. That day, we not only changed diapers six times, but it wasn’t a pleasant experience for us as well.
The experience reminded us that we tried the same diaper brand before and it only resulted in a saggy diaper, interrupted sleep, and worst, rashes on my baby’s bottom.
SumoSam and Momi Berlin took the “Less Palit, More Sulit” Challenge
The Sulit Choice
The following day, we changed to our usual Pampers. With our Pampers, it may come with a higher price tag, but then as we computed it, we actually save more money. With a quality diaper like Pampers, we spend less because we don’t have to change them as often. My mom reminded me that higher quality diapers are always better deals since we end up using fewer pieces in one day. We saved two diapers, consuming only four in a day.
For a practical mom, two diapers saved in a day is equivalent to 60 diapers in a month! That is around P650 savings plus undeniable peace of mind. We only replace diapers when they are full.
As I watch my son play, sleep, or even walk, I could see a less lawlaw diaper, too. It is because the pad absorbs well and evenly distributes the wetness, making my son move with ease and confidence. Even when he was recovering from his stomach flu, he remains active and happy. And very evident in him that he is more than ready to achieve essential milestones with a less saggy diaper.
SumoSam and Momi Berlin took the “Less Palit, More Sulit” Challenge
I learned from the “Less Palit, More Sulit” Challenge. And I encourage moms to do the challenge, too. Sometimes, it is through experience that we get to see the results and consequences of our decisions. We might have opted for the unpopular decision but the important thing is, we learn from that and we do not make the same mistake again.
I made a mistake to equate the cheapest diaper brand to significant savings. I was wrong.
SumoSam and Momi Berlin took the “Less Palit, More Sulit” Challenge
Ang totoong sulit, yung better quality. And the “Less Palit, More Sulit” Challenge from Pampers helped me realize this more.
And such great news! For every purchase of Pampers, worth PHP500 in Waltermart, the customer will get one raffle ticket. 15 winners will get one year supply of Pampers and 30 winners will get a Jollibee Kid’s Party Package. Joining period is February 1 to February 28. But I guess, more than the opportunity to enjoy a one year supply of Pampers or Jollibee Kid’s Party Package, the old Latin proverb remains true-
When my husband and I started to build our family, we left my parent’s house. Many say it is prudent for young couples to stand on their own and live independently. I guess, being out of our elders’ wings made us responsible and better parents for our children.
About six months ago, though, we returned to my mother’s place. She has been dealing with a lot of stress, and it is prudent to have someone by her side. I opted to be that person, and I brought my family with me.
I have seen how my mom aged a lot, though she remains pretty and graceful. She, however, moves slower than the usual and she complains certain illnesses quite often.
As certain joys and perks come with aging – financial stability and higher wisdom to name a few – old age may also become a source of worry and stress. This happens especially if we don’t fully embrace this season with acceptance, much more if we’re clueless on how to enjoy ourselves when this season comes up in our midst. With this in mind, here are the seven golden rules of aging wisely and gracefully to enjoy the most out of your golden years according to So Sure Bladder Leakage Pad consultant, Phil-US registered dietitian-nutritionist Cheshire Que.
Enjoy the life season with positivity
Aging is inevitable. It is a phase that everyone will go through that’s why we need to accept it with gladness. Physiological changes accompany aging. Our bodies will not respond to our environment as they had in our younger years. Studies show that people who are positive and can manage stress well tend to be healthier. They are also less prone to mental health illnesses, mental decline, and heart diseases. To achieve this, it is a wise move to avoid stress and negativity. Let go of anything that causes you stress. It is better, too, to surround yourself only with the people that give you a sense of purpose. Take it one step at a time and learn to live in the moment. Don’t over think about what may or may not happen in a few years.
7 Golden Rules of Aging Wisely and Gracefully
Exercise is medicine. It prevents age-related illnesses by improving mobility, flexibility, strength, and blood circulation. Studies show that individuals who exercise are less likely to feel sluggish. They are more energetic than those who choose to sit at home. Exercise has also been proven to prevent depression and anxiety. It keeps you not only physically but also mentally healthy.
A study published in the Journal of Neurology and Clinical Practice shows that a low-intensity exercise for a total of two and a half hours a week works wonders for the brains. Such work out helps improve a person’s cognition, processing speed, and attention span, among others. When we reach our 40s, we need to start thinking about the muscles that we don’t pay attention to, like our pelvic floor muscles. “Doing Kegels regularly will strengthen those muscles to prevent bladder leakage or incontinence issues later on,” says Cheshire.
Nourish your body with nutrient-rich foods
Eat not just for pleasure but mainly for nourishment. This includes mindfully drinking water throughout the day. The sense of thirst may diminish as we age leaving us at risk of dehydration. Drinking water also helps flush out toxins that speed up aging. Minimally processed foods must be avoided. It is prudent to opt for more whole foods from whole grains, vegetables, fruits, lean protein, and healthy fats. “When it comes to clean eating, enjoying a variety of food in moderation will ensure our bodies are well-nourished,” said Cheshire. “This also means that the older population should not adhere to any fad diet. Doing so will only retrict them to certain types of food, which will only prevent them from taking in essential nutrients that they need,” she added.
Practice sleep hygiene
Sleeping hours may decrease as we age, but quality sleep is vital. It is during sleep when the body is most able to repair itself. Keep a regular sleeping pattern that is aligned with the body’s circadian rhythm, also known as, body clock. This prevents hormonal imbalances that are associated with chronic illnesses. Have a downtime one hour before bedtime in a sleep-promoting environment. Such room must be quiet, cold and dark.
Nourish your mind and soul
To maintain mental acuity, keep the mind engaged. Listening to music, reading, doing art, cooking, and other hobbies do not just help keep up one’s well-being. They also assist in maintaining the sharpness of mind. Likewise, nourishing the soul through spirituality gives wisdom and a sense of purpose in the golden years.
Visit your doctor regularly
To manage age-related illnesses and concerns, the role of a physician specializing in the care of mature and older adults is vital. Cheshire also added that “a regular trip to the doctor’s office will ensure prevention and protection while maintaining the quality of life.” As an added advice to children looking after aging parents or relatives, Cheshire mentioned as well never to embarrass them when we see changes in their bodies and with their behavior. “Instead, encourage them to open up about what they feel and speak up if they notice any changes in their body.”
Take proper nutrient supplementation
Mature and older people are at risk of nutrient deficiencies which lead to decreased functionality and quality of life. Vitamin D, Calcium, Vitamin C, Omega 3, fiber and even amino acids may be some of the nutrients that need consideration. “Always seek guidance and supervision of a physician and a dietitian, don’t just buy something because of what you’ve heard or read.
With the proper perspective and education on how to age in a healthy way, aging will not become an obstacle to one’s goals. However, in a report published by US Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 50 percent of the older population is experiencing incontinence or the inability to control urinating, and women are particularly vulnerable. Those with incontinence leave an impact on them physically, socially, and mentally because the condition restricts their activities, thus substantially reducing their quality of life. Aside from proper medication, and possible surgical procedures for severe cases, an incontinence pad like So Sure Bladder Leakage Pad is a practical lifesaver for the sufferers: hugs securely but discreetly without the thickness of a diaper, 3x more absorbent than a regular pad, anti-bacterial with odor control features, and only made of breathable, skin-friendly cotton material! Additionally, it’s unisex and available in two variants, 340 mm for light drips or spurts and 450 mm for burst or surges to ensure comfort and protection throughout the day. Remember, a menstrual pad is not meant for urine leaks as it’s not designed to hold a rapid urine flow.
Age Wisely and Gracefully
Don’t let a medical condition or aging-related problems such as bladder leakage stop you from achieving all that you can. So Sure Bladder Leakage Pads are designed for optimum absorbency of bladder leakage without the bulky feel of an adult diaper. They are available in Lazada and at all leading Mercury Drug outlets nationwide.
Parenting is no easy feat. There are a ton of things you need to consider before you decide. The things you have to buy, the investments you will undertake, even the spaces you will expose your children with should all be well thought of as it means security for them. While there is no silver bullet to address these issues, there are ways, however, to manage them at the onset.
Below are five tips you should consider in organizing your home:
Invest in Multi-purpose Furniture
Face it. Having a child is equivalent to a deluge of stuff. And these aren’t usual stuff you would be able to squeeze in different parts of the house. They are bulky, in huge numbers, and comes in every week. Before your home turns into a catastrophic mess, invest in furniture that can house a lot of stuff. They need not be expensive. You can opt to have it customized with a local carpenter within your vicinity. Toys, for instance, in one cabinet make them appear visually stimulating and even inspiring. Also, it pays to bear in mind to have durable, stable furniture that can’t be easily moved by kids. You wouldn’t want them breaking anything, right?
Use Easy to Wash Fabrics
Kids are replete with energy. They seldom run out of it, to be honest. Because of this, they move, hide, play, and run to every nook and cranny of your house; including the messy ones. Also, not to state the obvious, they have a voracious appetite. All of this combined, they are a walking threat to anything clean. Expect your newly washed linens, bed sheets, pillow cases, even curtains to be dented with almost any dirt that you can imagine. Do not take this negatively as this is a fact. It is something that you have no control over. But of course, it is something you can manage by buying fabrics that can be washed easily. Drop by the nearest department store to look for ideal fabrics for your family.
Introduce a Pet
5 Tips to Make Home Child-friendly
Having pets at home instill responsibility and a higher purpose for kids. Apart from teaching them the value of life, pets are also good companies to entertain them. Dogs and cats have been the traditional ones. They can spend most of their time playing with them all day long. But if you are afraid that your kids might get hurt in the process, then considering having an aquarium. A pet fish is generally easy to take care of, and kids will spend a great deal of time staring in awe of your aquarium. Also, aquariums are scientifically proven to augment the focus of children which can help them in their performance at school later on.
Create Green Spaces for Them
Nature is a relaxing way for you and your children to bond aside from the health benefits it has to your family. Having a backyard or plants at home can be an ideal pastime for the entire family. You aren’t just teaching them valuable life lessons to take care of the environment but inculcating too self-sufficiency by raising their vegetables and root crops. In the long run, this will also be a good cost-saving on your part as you harvest your food. The values you will be able to impart with them will be useful building blocks for them when they grow up.
Set an Activity Area
Safety is an integral factor for your children. By creating a safe space where they can do everything they want without the worry of encountering any harm will be a huge break for you. You can go on with your work and chores while they do their own thing at this safe space. Just make sure that all the toys and activities they will need are in here. If it’s impossible to have it indoors, you can set up a playground outdoors where they can freely do safe activities like sandbox, slide, and other less strenuous activities.
Make Home Child-friendly
Making a home child-friendly does not really rely on material things and investing resources in creating or purchasing this or that. As long as children feel they are loved and valued, a home is a nice place to be in no matter how big or small the house is.
Momi Shares Tips to Save Money on Monthly Expenses
We’ve all been to that dreaded point: petsa de peligro. There is nothing quite like the pinch of having to stretch out those last few pesos until the next paycheck comes in. It need not be this way month after month. With the help of a few nifty tips, you can cut down on your regular expenses without cramping your lifestyle.
Record your expenses
This first step is necessary to know exactly what you are spending on. Also, it is an excellent way to track down what makes up the most significant bulk of the expenditure. Recording expenses is also a good practice to continually keep an eye on your budget and find out what else to cut down on.
Check your cell phone and data plans
Although post-paid and data plans may be convenient, sometimes you do not actually utilize all the minutes or data provided. If it turns out that your data or post-paid credits consumption is less than what your plan offers, consider switching to a program with a lower monthly rate.
Unplug your devices
Leaving appliances and especially chargers plugged in for longer than necessary can sneakily add to your electric bill. To help shave off a few pesos, unplug devices not being used, or use a power strip that allows you to turn off the current quickly.
Bring your lunch
10 tips to save money on monthly expenses
Those lunches and dinners out, or even runs to the convenience store for snacks can gradually put a dent into your budget without your knowing it! Although it is okay from time to time to lunch out or order in at work, making your lunch on most days helps cut on costs. It is also healthier too since you can tweak the menu to your dietary needs.
Install LED or energy efficient lighting
If you still use incandescent bulbs or even fluorescent lights, you might be spending more on electric bills than you think. Installing LEDs or other energy saving light fixtures may seem expensive initially, but the return of investment in lower bills is worthwhile.
This healthy and simple step can save you both time and money. Walking for short distances can help you save both time and gas money. For longer distances, consider carpooling or taking public transportation.
Buy non-perishable groceries in bulk
The usual tendency to buy in “small” or “tingi” packs adds up in terms of costs and waste. For soaps, detergents, canned goods, and other non-perishable items, buying in bulk helps reduce costs per item, as well as reduces time and money spent going to the store to stock up.
Check your brands
For most foodstuffs and household items, it may not be necessary to always spring for the high-end brands. Often, “generic” or lower-priced brands work just as well, but with the added benefit of being rated lower. Any differences may be subtle, detectable only by the extreme connoisseurs or the overly finicky. Unless the item is one-of-a-kind, there is usually a less expensive brand available on the market.
Consider online shopping
Nowadays it is possible to get nearly anything online, from food, clothes, and electronics to name a few. The delivery fees for many of these online shopping services may come out to less than the additional costs of a shopping trip: gas, parking, food, and other incidentals. For as long as you carefully inspect and track your purchases, online shopping is an excellent way to cut costs even for weekly groceries and other necessities.
10 tips to save money on monthly expenses
Review your subscriptions
Sometimes old subscriptions may drain your budget sneakily. Do you still really read those magazines, or can you get them online? Do you still watch cable TV, or are you better off using streaming services? Canceling those infrequently used services may allow you to spring for something better or give you more to add to your savings.
Save money on monthly expenses
It is possible to save up a great deal every month without reducing your diet to bread and water or having to rely on candlelight once the sun goes down. We hope these tips will help you cut expenses and even banish those pre-payday blues!
Momi Berlin shares a rather new investment option for her, Life Settlement, as part of a sponsored post with Mason Finance.
At age 23, I got life insurance from a financial advisor. I find the need for a contingency plan. This contingency plan is to pay for my final expenses and save my family from any financial burden my death may bring. I also thought of my future kids. Though still single that time, I imagine myself having a family and kids. And I want to make sure my children are well taken care of and can afford a quality college education. The money from my life insurance would cover such need. Of course, I also thought of using the money for my retirement and somehow enjoy the last few years of my life traveling. I would want or my family to enjoy the money I invested and at the same time keep me covered for life as long as I am paying my premium contribution.
By the way, I got my insurance from a friend’s friend. She introduced me to her financial advisor pal.
After a few years, this friend needed to pay for long-term health care expenses. She left her husband, and she has no heirs whom she can leave her assets and investments to. At that time, cash is more prudent than an insurance policy. She wished to trade her death benefit for a living benefit and thrive in her remaining years. That’s when she related to me another good alternative investment in the form of a life settlement. She mentioned she has to look for realiable life settlement companies for this purpose. Major financial corporations, multi-national banks, and pension funds are just a few institutions that purchase life settlements.
Having heard her plan, I encouraged her to surrender her policy instead. But she enlightened me the benefit of a life settlement transaction. As she sells her policy to an investor, she will receive a lump sum payment which is more than the policy’s cash surrender value. That amount would be more than enough to cover her medical needs plus still have significant money for her final expenses.
The investor, on the other hand, or the person who or institution that bought the policy needs to maintain the policy, pay any premiums, and collects the death benefit when the insured passes.
A win-win settlement
I find such a transaction a win-win arrangement for both parties. The insured gets to have the money, higher than the expected value of the policy’s living benefits. Reports have it that on average, most seniors who sold their policy received as much as four times their cash surrender value. The investor, on the other hand, gets to collect the considerable death benefit of the insured once the latter passed away. And again, that is one huge amount compared to the value one invested in the policy.
Life Settlement: A new investment option
As I study this option, I have no doubt I might also opt for this kind of investment especially if I don’t have any beneficiary to enjoy the money I am yet to leave. Same with investing in life settlement should I have my boys to leave after my death. The funds will bring a huge amount to them compared to the money we paid for the policy.
For me, getting a life insurance policy is a significant investment. The money grows, and by the time I or my family gets it, it may help us meet our long-term goals. But in case I opt not to continue with it, I am now aware of a new option, and it is called life settlement.
Again, I texted my best friend to complain. I know she can be real patient with me; thus she’s the only one I ran to when I need a shoulder to cry on. As always, she would express complete disapproval of the person.
Yesterday, though, was different.

Not that I want him to change. I just expect him to be the person I want him to be. Only that he can’t be that person because he was never that person. The whole process of hating just drove me crazy, almost destroying my relationship with him. Or my disappointed to him ruined it already.
Just this morning, I again had a not so pleasant chat conversation with him. I stopped answering as I don’t want to ruin both our days. Then he ended his message with, “why not see the good in me.”
What my friend advised me echoed in my head again. I can’t change people, so I shouldn’t drive myself crazy trying. Instead, I need to change how I deal with them or stay away from them if I can. I need to opt for the first one.

Momi Shares Tips for That Instant Confidence Boost
Did you ever wonder why the hair is called every girl’s crowning glory? Perhaps because the hair symbolizes one’s personality? It is most likely the first thing one notices about the person then followed by her smile.
The hair itself can boost one’s confidence as a gorgeous mane can alone be her only accessory to express herself. Thus, it is vital that one takes care of her crowning glory to keep up its beauty.
Sometimes, though, one’s busy schedule hinders one to maintain her once beautiful locks properly. Gray hair starts to show up, or the once dyed hair is beginning to fade. A nice trim is needed to tame those split ends, or the length of the hair no longer complements the features of her face.
These are just a few of the reasons that pushed me to check out and try hair extensions. I always believe that gorgeous hair is an instant confidence booster. Feeling beautiful makes me feel confident, which affects how I think, speak, and move.
Being a stay-at-home mom, I admit not brushing my hair regularly. I would always tie it as soon as I wake up or I even sleep with a ponytail on. That makes my hair dry, dull, and flat. With hair extensions, they instantly pump up my hair body. There is an added volume for that powerful and sensual look just like in shampoo commercials. My hair appears healthy, vibrant, and sexy.

But with hair extensions, I can have that desired length anytime I want – instantly. And I can choose the color I love to match with my hair, too.
This makes hair extensions the perfect quick solution for those with hair thinning woes. They can now have their thick dream hair from root to tip with hair extensions.
For a daily fix yet less maintenance, hair extensions are the best options. They are not only easy to style but also easy to maintain. Hair extensions instantly solution that added glamour, sensuality, and style minus the many hours and even years of hair maintenance.
There is also no more worry about possible hair damage because of frequent styling or coloring. With hair extensions, I can tie my hair, let it drop straight or even curl it. The possibilities are just so endless.
