Valid

Back-to-School is right around the corner so we thought we’d help you get ahead of the bell curve and start planning your looks for a fabulous Fall. Here are some of our favorite trends”

The “New Taylor” Hair

Hi, Taylor can’t come to the phone right now because this model stole her hair and now others want it too. If you have curls (and this bone structure) jump in our stylist’s chair and bring this photo, like, yesterday.

The “Oh My God They’re Back” Scrunchies

Most of us thought we’d never see our tried and true friend the scrunchie ever again. But, as with all things wonderful, scrunchies are back and we think they are totally tubular..

The Studded Pearl Clips

Never stop trying to make hair accessories happen, and thanks to these pearl and stud barrettes, our job just got that much easier.

The Timeless Pony

This would be classy now, in the seventies, and in medieval times, which you can’t say about most things.

The Gold Barrettes a la Kate Middleton

We can’t all be Kate Middleton, but we can get this regal vibe easy enough. Throw on some gold hair accessories and call it a day.

The Dirty Dancing Curls

I’m sure Abigail Breslin’s hair did the best it could in the Dirty Dancing remake, but this does the original proud. This is the 2018 version and no one puts Baby Curls in the corner.

The DIY But Expensive Parts

Something tells us, if we went to the craft store to try and copy this, it wouldn’t look half as good as it does here. But aren’t  you excited to try it?!

The Smooth as Silk Braids

The gentle texture of these layered braids looks so smooth and effortless that you want to reach out and touch them.

Slick Woods’ Buzz Cut

Heck yes to seeing not just short hair—but buzzed hair—represented on the runways. So, short is all the rage but it’s the buzz that really has people talking.

The Untidy, Ethereal Waves

If you want to transform into a windblown wood nymph with flowers caught in  your hair…

Most people know that Cosmetologists provide personal care services that include caring for the condition of people’s hair, skin and nails. But did you know Cosmetology is one of the most popular and fastest growing professions in the world?  Or do you know what the latest Cosmetology beauty profession is besides hair stylists, barbers, estheticians, manicurists and pedicurists, and theatrical and performance makeup artists?

Well, we thought we’d give you some fun facts so you can see where the profession has been and where it’s headed! The future looks gorgeous!

  • The word “cosmetology” is derived from a Greek word meaning “beautifying.”
  • Roman poetry suggests that an early type of hot curler existed to curl women’s hair.
  • Throughout history, people have used a variety of concoctions to improve their facial appearance, including blood for cheeks and lips, chalk powder, crocodile dung, and even lead.
  • Experts and educators alike believe if you already have these skills, then Cosmetology is a great way to use them: excellent customer service, interpersonal, listening and speaking skills, creativity and superior time management.
  • Approximately 617,300 people work in cosmetology careers.
  • Employers include hair salons, nail salons, barber shops, spas, and resorts.
  • About 43% of people working in this field are self-employed.
  • Job outlooks differ by occupation. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics expects hair stylists, manicurists, cosmetologists, and estheticians to experience job growth that is much faster than the average for all occupations between 2016 and 2026. The government agency expects barbers and theatrical and performance makeup artists to experience faster than average job growth over the same period.
  • The income that you can earn as a cosmetologist can vary from $25,000 to $70,000 a year depending on where you work.
  • Some cosmetologists go on to develop their own lines of skincare and haircare products, as well as makeup lines.  These cosmetologists-turned-product line creators include John Frieda, Vidal Sassoon, Paul Mitchell, Estee Lauder, and Lydia Sarfati.

So, do you know what the latest Cosmetology beauty profession is besides hair stylists, barbers, estheticians, manicurists and pedicurists, and theatrical and performance makeup artists?

  • Cosmecaregivers: They provide beauty and skincare services to people who cannot leave their beds.

Sun. Chlorine. Heat. Salt Water. Sand. All the things that play a part in our lives when we’re enjoying everything summer also can play a role in damaging our skin and hair. Here are 5 tips to protect your hair so all you have to worry about is having an amazing time outside and letting your summer goddess shine!

Wear a Hat!

A sassy hat can help protect your hair from the damaging heat of the sun. It will help protect the color as well as keep moisture in your hair to avoid drying and breakage. Plus, it’s good for your skin!

Seal it!

If you’re going to be swimming in the pool or in salt water, you want to seal as much moisture in your hair as possible before diving in. A good way to do this is to wet your hair completely and then apply a leave-in conditioner to your hair before you go swimming. This way, your hair absorbs the conditioner first before absorbing the chlorine or salt.

Fight Frizz

Humidity can turn a little frizz into a total disaster. Use products that feature Moroccan oil which is the best way to fight frizz any time of the year.

Air Dry

We beat up our hair every time we blow dry it so we don’t want to double the heat during the summer. Try to air dry your hair this season as often as possible. If you absolutely have to blow dry it, then at least save enough time that you can air dry it for even 30 minutes before turning on the heat.

Natural Radiance

For all-natural radiance, grab apple cider vinegar, which removes product buildup and closes the cuticle so light better reflects off hair. Mix one cup water with two tablespoons ACV in a spray bottle. After shampooing, mist it on and massage. Rinse after three minutes, then apply conditioner.

For more tips on how to be your most beautiful this summer, stop in and we’ll help you pick your summer colors and cut!

#dearmom: I have a friend whose mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2016. It was horrific. But everyone came together to rally and show support for her. Then the unthinkable happened and my friend was also diagnosed with breast cancer two months later. Thankfully because of early detection and the support of Susan G Komen foundation, I’m happy to say that both are cancer-free!

So as Mother’s Day is this Sunday, I wanted to tell their story. And I want to invite moms and daughters to come to the Mitsu Sato Hair Academy this month for a day of beauty and to support our “Celebration of Strength” event, benefiting the amazing work of the Kansas City Susan G Komen Foundation.

Join us for 15% off facials and makeovers. A portion of all proceeds will benefit the local chapter of the Susan G Komen Foundation.

Strength is Beautiful.

One of my favorite clients while I was in L.A. was Julia Louis-Dreyfus who was diagnosed with breast cancer in September 2017, two weeks after her record-setting Emmy win for “Veep.”

I have always believed in the brilliance and resilience of women so I am launching the Mitsu Sato Hair Academy “Celebration of Strength” event benefiting the Susan G Komen Foundation of Kansas City for the entire month of May.

Flushed Blush

Ditch the super-matte foundations this spring for rosy, flushed cheeks. Blend a soft-pink cream blush across your cheek bones, the tip of your nose, and over your lips. Then really add to the glow factor with a a few swipes of cream highlighter down the bridge of your nose and along your cheek bones.

Purple Reign

Ultra-violet hues are making the rounds this year. It’s all about iridescent, smudgy eyes! Blend three different hues of violet across your lids for a bold gradient or dust a light layer of lavender around your lash lines for a subtle, softer approach.

Classic Cats

The classic cat eye never really leaves, it just pops up in fun, new ways! This time with more shapes. Rather than the sloping wings of a usual cat-eye, this spring’s revival is all about sharp angles in matte-black shades.

Rose Gold Sheens

Thanks to Rihanna, who started the golden highlighter craze of 2017, this year sees the advent of rose-gold sheens. Sweep it across your cheekbones or blend it over your eyelids—this easy-to-wear-trend flatters every inch of your face, regardless of your skin tone.

Dark Lips for Spring?

As soon as warm weather hits, we’re usually tempted to toss our darkest lipsticks. But this spring, we’re opting for rich, inky shades of plum and cherry to offset the onslaught of pastels. But don’t even think about adding gloss — this spring it’s all about matte finishes.

Royal Glitz

Don’t think retro ’80s here. It’s all about a modern merger of royal blue and glitzy, glittery finishes!  Make the eyes your focus and keep the rest of your makeup neutral. Total royal treatment!

Come by the Mitsu Sato Hair Academy and let us show you the latest in hair and make-up trends today!

The GRAMMY Awards red carpet never disappoints and this year’s music glamfest hit almost all the right notes! As far as fashion goes, bejeweled pantsuits for women were all the rage. And as far as hair and makeup? We’re giving you five of our favorite looks (and one “wild” card!).

JANELLE MONAE

Janelle Monae was everything on the carpet and on the GRAMMY stage with a powerful #metoo speech. Helping to set the pantsuit trend in this amazing embroidered tux, her turquoise eyeliner (lifting the color from her outfit), thick, dramatic lashes and new bleached, slick ‘do made her a total winner!

LADY GAGA

The thick cat eyes with the iridescent eye shadow and light pink lips were gorgeous but take a look at that braid!!  Frederic Aspiras, Gaga’s hair stylist, wanted a “corset” feel to the long braid. He created two fishtails before weaving them together with black thread. Everything really ties together, don’t you think?

BEBE REXHA

This singer/songwriter is owning the latest trend of the double whammy wow of pink and red eye shadow.
Sculpted cheeks and a nude lip, paired with a gorgeous bob and she was the essence of modern glam.

LORDE

This Album of the Year nominee was monochromatic from head to toe — and red was the color!  With perfectly
paired red lip and gown, as well as a rosy cheek, this look was red carpet magic!  (You can’t see it,
but she also was carrying a red flask that matched perfectly!) Cheers!

BEYONCE

Needs no explanation…Queen Bey crushed it!

TYLER, THE CREATOR

Wild Card:  The rapper took a tip from Instagram when he sported this leopard print hair style that
became a huge online trend in 2017. If you’re going to get funky, then the GRAMMYs are the place to do it!

Come visit us and we’ll help you recreate some of these amazing GRAMMY looks!
