Band Personnel in Trouble

Motorhead and their road crew were subjected to a systematic and co-ordinated police raid. In a series of dawn raids, the police swooped on the houses of band members and the hotel where the production crew were staying. On both occasions, the police broke down doors to get into the properties.

A Total of eleven people were taken to police stations at Fulham, Barnes and Harrow for questioning. Phil Taylor, drummer, was involved. However, Lemmy, Singer and Bassist plus Eddie Clarke, Guitarist, stayed the night away from their homes.

Various substances were taken by police for analysis and all eleven were released pending the results of the tests. However, they will have to go to Fulham police station where charges may be made. It’s believed that the quantities involved were small.

The Nature of the raid has led to speculation that the band were ‘set-up,

Thin Lizzy’s Philip Lynott was charged with possessing quantities of Cannabis and Cocaine. Whilst in court, Philip Lynott, pleaded not guilty and the case was adjourned.

Van Halen’s David Lee Roth was charged with inciting the crowd to smoke at a concert in Cincinnati Ohio...The charge of ‘’soliciting, aiding or abetting another in committing an offense, to wit: smoking’, however, after the state prosecutor had studied the evidence relating to the charge offered, was subsequently dropped.

Band PersonnelNot Well

Motorhead’s Phil Taylor, injured himself, when he accidentally broke his neck. The Incident happened when Phil was ‘messing around’ with friends at the Europa Hotel in Belfast after a Motorhead gig and one of them accidentally dropped him on his head.

Phil was rushed to hospital, where they found three cracked verterbrae in his neck, fortunately, he was not paralyzed. Doctors finally allowed him to leave hospital and Phil flew home to London to recuperate, albeit, wearing a brace around his neck to protect it from any further damage.

'Extra Celestial Transmission' Channel 4 TV Heavy Metal Show

It’s hard to imagine now, that a terrestrial Telly Channel, would have a prime time music show that was devoted to Heavy Metal, but back in 1985, Channel 4 [UK] did exactly that.
When The Tube TV show had a break after the current series had ended, Channel 4 decided that they wanted a music show to fill the gap in the schedule and video company ‘McMillan’, said they would be able to do this. Owner of the company Keith McMillan, came up with the name of the show ‘Extra Celestiral Transmission’ which ran from April 12 to June 14th1985. The time slot for the show was 5.30-6.15pm on a Friday Night.
The Set for the show resembled a disused Power Station and 10 cameras roved around the set to find the bands, that were playing their 3 alloted numbers. The location for the show was based in Wembley in London, England.
Some of the luminaries that had their 10 minutes of fame on the show include the likes of Motorhead, Lords Of The New Church, Magnum, Madam X, Bernie Torme, Rogue Male, Girlschool, Waysted, Shy, Tobruk, Warrior, Hawkwind, Tygers Of Pan Tang, Mama’s Boys, Robin George, McCoy, Marino The Band, Wildfire, Spider, Gary Moore and Philip Lynott, Pet Hate, Tarazara, Chariot, Venom, Snowy White, Cannes, Lionheart, Grip, Persian Risk, Gunslingers, Torpedoes, Lee Aaron, Dumpy’s Rusty Nuts, Rock Goddess, Heavy Pettin’, She, Trash, and Warlock.
Magnum had the dubious pleasure of being on the show twice. The first time was the opening show, where their appearance was marred with a faulty microphone and the sound was muted, before it was finally sorted and the performance went off, eventually, without a hitch.
The bands second performance did not go to plan, as singer Bob Catley, was flying above the crowd’s head on a crane, and the problem was, that the Singer’s Microphone wasn’t plugged in and you couldn’t make out was song he was Singing, which was a shame.

If you wanna know what the performances were like on ‘Extra Celestial Transmission’, then go to ‘YouTube’ and type in one of the aforementioned names and enjoy.
