Dear GEMERA community:

Although GEMERA´s main sale was aimed to be over on December the 12th, we have decided to extend it until a new date to be announced. However, during this new period there will be no bonus.

The current highly bearish market was not fortunate for our numbers the previous months. For that reason, we expect that with the extensión of the main sale we can finally reach our soft cap by 2019. Besides, we truly believe this obstacle will turn out to be positive for the asset backed tokens, due to the transparency and security it offers for having a valuable support behind, which gives more confidence to investors, and that is the case of GEMERA tokens and the Colombian emeralds they represent.

On the other hand, we are waiting for the response of some private investors, who have shown interest on our project. This will definitely get GEMERA to a higher level.

However, December the 12th represents an important achievement for our project, considering that it determines our deadline to fulfill our road map to date, as can be seen below:

We want to thank to all the members of the community and all the GEMERA holders for having believed in us, as well as to our partners, emerald producers, who are confident that this project is promising and will continue to support us.

You are still part of the revolution of asset backed tokens, besides the fact of being part of the only project with real Colombian emeralds to support it.

We will keep you informed about the next news and achievements, and we will be open to any questions or requirements you might have.

Sincerely,

Jorge Peláez

CEO

The past October 14th GEMERA was present at the II World Emerald Symposium, in Bogotá, Colombia, which gathered high profile representatives worldwide of the emerald sector, to share their knowledge about the emerald sector, through conferences and lectures, during three days.

Philippe Boland, Advisor at GEMERA and expert of technology, gave a lecture about blockchain technology and the tokenization of emeralds, where GEMERA, as the only crypto-token backed by Colombian emeralds, was shown as a model in the matter.

Boland gave a brief explanation of the nature of the blockchain technology and gave a prediction about the important role of the tokenization of assets in the future of the financial system.

“By 2025 -he explained-, the projection of investment on cryptocurrencies will be of around $1 trillion, meanwhile the tkonized assets will be of around $4 trillion. The problem with the cryptocurrencies is the fact that they don´t have a backup. That is why projects like GEMERA, which are backed by an asset (in this case Colombian emeralds), are very promising”.

Philippe also announced that GEMERA will be listed on LATOKEN exchange from October 25th, and that is currently running a pre-sale period.

GEMERA´s representatives: Nicolás Revollo, CTO; Danny Arteaga, CMO, and Philippe Boland, Advisor.

GEMERA, The long-awaited crypto-token backed 100% by Colombian emeralds, has announced that its pre-sale will go live on September 10th, with a 20% bonus for early participants.

GEMERA is the only crypto-token backed by Colombian emeralds, whose purpose is to create a blockchain based platform to connect emerald producers and investors. This will provide a more transparent, democratic and accessible way for individuals to invest in these gemstones.

Through the creation of crypto-tokens 100% backed by Colombian emeralds, GEMERA is offering an innovative and modern investment opportunity, which at the same time solves problems in the emerald’s value chain. GEMERA addresses such issues as high costs for the investors and less income for the producers, caused by intermediaries. Through the token and platform, GEMERA eliminates the middleman, creating multiple benefits for both investors and producers.

The project has established an alliance with major Colombian emerald producers who provided emeralds that are already certified and stored in secure vaults of a trusted safe deposit box company in Hong Kong. This stock will back part of the tokens issued during the pre-sale.

Indeed, for more than five centuries, Colombia has been the leading provider of high-quality emeralds and has become a reference for gemstone investors. Nowadays, more than 70% of the world’s market supplies of emeralds come from this country, and they are the most expensive per carat. Emeralds are becoming the most appreciated and valuable of all precious gemstones. For instance, according to Gemval (an organization of value reference and appraisal of gems), with figures of 1 February 2018, the price of rough emeralds has increased 135% since 2013.

GEMERA was founded by a group of Colombian emerald producers and entrepreneurs with knowledge and passion for the blockchain technology and the cryptocurrency industry.

GEMERA’s Pre-Sale

GEMERA’s pre-sale will take place from September 10th to October 24th. The token will be available at a base rate of 1 USD, and the participants will receive up to 20% bonus.

The Public Sale will take place from October 25th to December 12th, with a starting bonus of 10%.

Some emeralds contain materials trapped within them during the formation process, as well as some internal or external fissures. These aberrations inside the stone are technically called inclusions but they are often as well referred to as jardin (garden, in French). Inclusions are very common, even being found in the highest quality emeralds, so they are accepted in the jewelry industry. In general, however. the less inclusions an emerald contains, the higher its price.

The most common characteristic that affects the transparency of an emerald are the fissures, which result from the tectonic forces that occurred during the formation of the gemstone. In order to make these inclusions less visible and to improve the gemstone’s beauty and clarity, the emeralds undergo a treatment. This treatment consists on filling the fissures and fractures with a substance, such as oil, resin or wax, to permit a better passage of light, which is blocked by the inclusions.

The treatment is categorized on a scale: none, insignificant, minor, moderate and significant. Minor means the treatment was applied only on the surface of the stone, while significant indicates an evident effect on its aspect.

Hundreds of years ago, the practice of immersing the emeralds in oil to fill the fissures and give them a better look was developed by cutters and quickly it became a common practice in the jeweler’s guild.

The type of treatment is selected according to how much the emerald is included, which is defined through categories used by gemologists:

  • Very Very Slight Included (VVS): inclusions difficult to see with 10x magnification
  • Very Slightly Included (VS):: nclusions seen with 10x magnification
  • Slightly Included (SI): inclusions easily seen with 10x magnification, but not visible with the unaided eye.

Regarding the type of substances used in the treatment of emeralds, oil is the most traditional and widely used. Hundreds of years ago, the practice of immersing the emeralds in oil to fill the fissures and give them a better look was developed by cutters and quickly it became a common practice in jewelers’ guilds.

However, other substances, such as synthetic permanent fillers and resins, are also used for the treatment with equal or even better results than oil. It is important to mention that the effect of treatment generally degrades over time, making the inclusions visible again. In this case another treatment will enhance the gemstone one more time.

Almost all emeralds in the world have some type of treatment, with the practice having been down since the beginning of the emerald trade. Furthermore, treatment is another factor that helps to determine the value of a gemstone. It adds to the rigorous and even mystical process around the discovery, cut and enhancement of an emerald, before the gemstone finally reaches the hands of whoever will be fortunate enough to own it.

The total worth of assets in the world is estimated to be more than USD 250 trillion. Everyday, people all across the globe invest in these assets. However, the processes used to trade them are often outdated and could be more efficient. Transactions take considerable time to complete and may include paperwork, intermediaries, and geographical limitations.

While credit and debit cards enable money to change hands digitally, they still rely on central authorities, like banks. Besides, users are subject to high transaction fees, especially across borders. That is when the tokenization of assets plus the advantages of the blockchain come to save the day, making these processes easier for investors.

Tokenization is essentially the process of representing real-world assets on the blockchain using digital tokens. It allows ownership rights and benefits to be transmitted and traded on digital platforms which make it possible to reduce the burden of paperwork and to have a more reliable record-keeping.

It’s no coincidence that many experts agree that asset-backed tokens are the next step in the decentralized financial system.

Thus, tokenized assets become more engaging for investors, because of the benefits granted by the blockchain technology, such as the transparency, the effectiveness, the reduction of the presence of intermediaries, the speed and the possibility to divide the tokens into fractions, among others.

In that way, investors have more access to real-world assets, even to those that are difficult to find, such as gemstones, and keep a true value by holding the tokens, besides having a greater confidence when taking an investment decision. That is why it’s no coincidence that many experts agree that asset-backed tokens are the next step in the decentralized financial system.

GEMERA and the Colombian Emeralds Tokenization

GEMERA is a good example of this new tendency of tokenization of assets. This project has the purpose of strengthening the Colombian emerald production chain by connecting more directly the producers and the investors through the issuance of crypto-tokens backed by Colombian emeralds.

In that way, it is possible to eliminate intermediaries and procedures, which permits the producer to obtain more profit from its product sale, and the investor to hold a token managed by blockchain that represents the value of the emeralds, with the additional benefit that it can be used as a store of value, traded in exchanges or redeemed for the very emeralds they represent.

In other words, GEMERA is a tokenization project that will transform the Colombian emerald industry for the better and will provide investors a more democratic, transparent and accessible way to invest in a scarce and desired asset such as the mythical green gemstone.
