Madrid, April 25 (MAUNEWS/UITV/IANS)- Atletico Madrid squandered the lead twice against visiting Valencia before pulling out a 3-2 win after a late goal by Angel Correa.

Valencia made errors on Wednesday night that proved costly, but the story of the match was Atletico’s expertise in capitalising on those chances, reports Efe news.

The home side jumped out to a 1-0 lead eight minutes into the contest on a well-constructed goal that came after Valencia midfielder Goncalo Guedes had surrendered possession in his own area.

A half-dozen Atletico players then proceeded to touch the ball before it was sent over to the right side to Juanfran, who delivered an exquisite pass to a diving Alvaro Morato for a close-range score.

Valencia, however, got the equaliser on a goal that was every bit as well-crafted.

Francis Coquelin got the play started with a long-range pass to Carlos Soler on the right side.

Santi Mina then received the ball from Soler and made a remarkable individual play to manoeuver around defender Diego Godin and then find Kevin Gameiro, who fired past Jan Oblak from just outside the goal box in the 35th minute.

Atletico Madrid, however, took the lead once again four minutes into the second half.

The play began when the home side gained possession in their own half of the field and then launched a rapid counter-attack that Antoine Griezmann finished off by heading home a cross from Thomas Lemar.

Defender Daniel Wass could have done more to inhibit the goal but did not catch sight of Lemar’s pass, or Griezmann’s move toward the ball, until it was too late.

Valencia, however, was far from finished and managed to equalize a second time in the 77th minute after Saul Niguez was called for a hand ball in the area and the video assistant referee (VAR) system confirmed the on-field decision.

Dani Parejo did the honours from the penalty spot to give Valencia hope of at least coming away with one point, but it was not to be.

Super-sub Correa, who had come on in the 61st minute for Filipe Luis, scored what proved to be the winning goal in the 81st minute when he curled a long-range shot around defender Mouctar Diakhaby and into the right side of the net past goalkeeper Neto.

Doha, April 25 (MAUNEWS/UITV/IANS)– P.U. Chitra clocked 4:14.56 to strike gold for India in the womens’ 1500m race on the concluding day of the Asian Athletics Championships here on Wednesday. The win also ensured Chitra’s qualification for the World Championships.

“Got a little nervous towards the end being next to the Bahraini runner (Gashaw Tigest). She beat me to third place in the Asian Games. I had to really push hard in the end,” Chitra said after her victory.

Earlier, sprinter Dutee Chand won the first medal of the day for India as she managed a season best timing of 23.24 seconds to win bronze in the 200m dash.

“I am really very happy. I missed out on a medal in the 100m and the relay. I put too much effort in 100m and was not sure of a medal in 200m. I just did my best and I am happy,” Dutee said after her race.

Though Dutee was happy with her efforts, her season-best timing of 23.24 seconds will not help her make it to the World Championships. Her timing was just 0.001 seconds quicker than the fourth placed runner and her position was confirmed only after it flashed on the giant screen at the Khalifa Stadium.

In the men’s 1500m race, Ajay Kumar Saroj won a silver clocking 3:43.18.

In women’s discus throw, Kamalpreet Kaur and Navjeet Kaur Dhillon finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

Mumbai, April 25 (MAUNEWS/UITV/IANS) Actress Kareena Kapoor Khan will play a police officer in Irrfan Khan-starrer “Angrezi Medium”, says producer Dinesh Vijan.

“Angrezi Medium” is the sequel to the widely appreciated 2017 entertainer “Hindi Medium”.

“Kareena is a great addition to our franchise. ‘Angrezi Medium’ is a very special film, and I’m excited that she’s going to be a part of it. We wanted to introduce this character who would be taken forward in the franchises to come, and she’s perfect for it,” Vijan said in a statement.

“Here, she plays a cop — a role she’s actually never done before. We will be shooting in London this June, and it will be great to be back on set with her,” he added.

Irrfan, who had been lying low for around a year after being diagnosed with neuroendocrine tumour, will be playing a sweetshop owner in the film.

Los Angeles, April 25 (MAUNEWS/UITV/IANS) Despite the makers and actors’ efforts to save Marvel’s much-anticipated film “Avengers: Endgame” from piracy, the movie has been leaked on several websites.

The film’s leaked copy came from a Chinese theatrical screening which happened a day ago, variety.com reported on Wednesday.

Later, the film reportedly circulated on other platforms such as ThePirateBay and India’s TamilRockers.

Directed by Russo brothers, “Avengers: Endgame” is the culmination of over 20 Marvel movies. It stars actors like Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson.

“Keep those spoilers to yourself,” Downey tweeted after the film’s copy got leaked online.

New Delhi, April 25 (MAUNEWS/UITV/IANS)- Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which is contesting all the seven Lok Sabha seats in the national capital, on Thursday promised, in its election manifesto, to secure full statehood for Delhi, suggesting that it would address all the problems afflicting the city.

Delhi’s ruling party, which has been at loggerheads with the central Narendra Modi government, said only full statehood would give the city government control over land, law and order, police and over officials and decision-making.

“With full statehood, several dreams of the people of Delhi will be realized,” said the 35-page manifesto titled ‘Le Kar Rahenge Purna Rajya’ (We will secure full statehood) which was released by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

“Women safety will considerably improve. Law and order in Delhi will improve. Youth will get jobs. Every child who has scored more than 60 per cent marks in 12th standard will get a college admission. Sealing will be stopped in Delhi. Every Delhi resident will have a house of his/her own. Unauthorized colonies will be regularized. Delhi will be a clean and beautiful city. Delhi will accelerate towards the path of development,” Kejriwal said in a message in the manifesto.

Delhi, where balloting for the Lok Sabha polls will take place on May 12, will have a triangular contest involving BJP, Congress and AAP.

“The AAP is fighting the Lok Sabha elections in Delhi with the sole objective of making Delhi a full state,” said the party which was trying to court the Congress for an electoral alliance but failed to do so.

In the manifesto, released of other AAP leaders including Manish Sisodia, Gopal Rai and Sanjay Singh, the party said the Congress and the BJP have “betrayed the trust of the people” of Delhi over the issue.

“Their reason being that they did not have their government in the Delhi Assembly. The truth is that there have been opportunities when they had their government, both at the centre and in Delhi. But they did not take effective steps to give full statehood for Delhi. Even today, the stance of BJP and Congress is not favourable towards granting full statehood,” the manifesto reads.

Kejriwal said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, before becoming the Prime Minister, demanded full statehood for Delhi.

“But both these parties have betrayed the trust of the people of Delhi,” he said, adding that many other parties in Parliament had expressed support for the demand for complete statehood for Delhi.

The AAP said despite many hurdles, the Delhi government had achieved remarkable progress in the fields of education, health, electricity and water.

“We fulfilled all the promises that we made. With full statehood, we assure you that we will fulfil all the above promises,” Kejriwal’s letter added.

“Till today, you have voted in Lok Sabha elections to elect your Prime Minister. Now it’s time to vote to make Delhi a full state. History and almighty give an opportunity only once. Delhi has that opportunity at this moment. This time, vote for AAP so that Delhi becomes a full state,” he said.

The manifesto said the AAP will join hands with other political parties which have an emotional attachment with the people of Delhi and believe in the right of the people of Delhi to have a full-fledged state.

Darbhanga (Bihar), April 25 (MAUNEWS/UITV/IANS)- Urging the people to support the “Chowkidar” in the Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said people’s one vote can end terrorism in the country.

Addressing an election rally here, Modi also said that a “strong country” needed a “strong Prime Minister”.

“Our country should be strong and for a strong country there should be a strong government. And for a strong government the Prime Minister should be strong,” he said.

“The Chowkidar of the country should be strong. Your one vote can end terrorism. Give your support to Chowkidar.”

He assured the people that he will not rest till terrorism is ended in the country.

The Prime Minister then sought votes for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Gopaljee Thakur in the Darbhanga Lok Sabha seat.

He attacked the opposition for downplaying the threat of terror though terrorism was a big issue in the country.

“Terrorism is a big issue in India. We will not tolerate terrorism and will act against it by entering into the homes of terrorists.”

Modi said the Congress had failed to connect all villages with electricity but the BJP-led NDA government had managed to do that.

Seoul, April 25 (MAUNEWS/UITV/IANS)- North Korea has ousted Kim Yong-chol as the head of relations with South Korea, said a South Korean government official on Thursday.

South Korean lawmaker Lee Hye-hoon, the chairwoman of the National Assembly’s Intelligence Committee, told the media that Kim had been removed from his position running the government’s United Front Department sometime in mid-April, reports CNN.

The United Front Department manages with all things South Korea, including Pyongyang’s relationship with Seoul and using propaganda to foment pro-North Korean views in the South.

Kim has also served as US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s counterpart in nuclear negotiations with the US and organising the two summits between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

It’s unclear if Kim Yong Chol’s role in talks with Washington has changed, as he still holds other important titles inside North Korea.

The announcement comes as Kim Jong-un is slated to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin at Far Eastern State University in Vladivostok on Thursday.

Putin will be the sixth world leader to meet Kim Jong-un since he took control of North Korea in 2011.

So far, Kim has met US President Donald Trump, Chinese President Xi Jinping, South Korean President Moon Jae-in, Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Vietnamese President Nguyen Phu Trong.
