Mamonde Floral Hydro Ampoule Toner Review
About The Product
According to Mamonde’s official website, this star ingredient in this line of products is the Narcissus flower, inspired by how it ‘stores hydration in its bulbous plant throughout the long winter before blooming in the early summer, and the hydration circulation ability of polyvoltine Erlicheer, which blooms multiple flowers from one stalk.’ This particular product is also a combination of a toner and an ampoule, as it claims to reap the absorption power of toners and hydration of ampoules.
I gotta admit - I’m a sucker for skincare with aesthetic packaging, and Mamonde’s beautiful branding is my weakness. This toner comes in a lovely ombré blue, frosted plastic bottle with delicate florals embossed around the bottom. It has a pump dispenser that doles out the product in controlled proportions, so a couple of pumps of this is usually sufficient to distribute across my entire face.
The product itself has an interesting texture - when first dispensed from the pump bottle, it comes out in a clear, aqueous, almost gel-like blob but subsequently turns more watery and disappears as its patted into the skin. I guess this demonstrates the ampoule-toner aspect of the product. The fragrance of this product is subtle enough that I only caught a whiff of it when I was applying it on my face, and it smells pleasantly light and floral.
Looking at the ingredient list, the key ingredients in this toner would be the Narcissus Tazetta Bulb Extract, Hyaluronic Acid and, Sodium Hyaluronate, which alludes to its hydrating properties. It does indeed feel like I treated my skin to a refreshing splash of water every time I put this on. It feels like it is soaked up fairly well by my skin as it disappears after patting it in for a bit, though I am unsure if it’s really absorbed or just evaporated due to the presence of alcohol (third on the ingredient list).
I noticed that this toner also has some calming properties during those times I applied this when my skin is red and irritated, as it seems to cool and take away some of the redness in my skin.
Although I find this pleasant enough to use, I don’t intend to repurchase after finishing this bottle (which seems to last forever) for multiple reasons. Firstly, while this feels light and hydrating enough in the morning, the rate at which this disappears into my skin makes me feel like I need something a little heftier during my evening routine, or when my skin is really dehydrated, and this doesn’t quite cut it. For this, my Hada Labo Gokyujun Premium Lotion (review coming soon!) does a much better job.
Secondly, this toner contains both alcohol and fragrance as well. While these 2 ingredients aren’t necessarily ‘bad’ per se, people who are sensitive to them might wanna take note! For myself, I am trying to cut out both alcohol and fragrance out of my routine just in case they are compromising my already-dry and sensitive skin. Also, I would like a toner that I could try out the 7-skin technique with, and doing it with a toner that contains alcohol definitely isn’t recommended as it could be rather drying.
Nevertheless, this is still a nice product to have if there is a gap in your routine that you need to fill with a hydrating toner, and if you don’t have a sensitivity to any of the ingredients in this product.
Rating: 3/5. This is a decently hydrating toner, but am not likely to repurchase.

Mamonde Floral Hydro Emulsion Review
About The Product
Similar to the toner, this emulsion also features extracts from the Narcissus flower. Mamonde’s website touts this to have a ‘dual moisture effect through the use of water-soluble and oil soluble moisturizing ingredients’ and that this is supposed to be a hydrating and balancing emulsion.
This has an almost identical packaging as the toner in the same line, which I love for the same reasons. The pump dispenses this in a thin, milky emulsion, and I usually use 1-2 pumps of this depending on what I feel my skin needs. It does have similar fragrance notes as the toner, although I find this to be a tad stronger and more cloying, but still tolerable.
Ingredient-wise, on top of the Narcissus Tazetta Bulb Extract and Sodium Hyaluronate which are both included in the toner, this emulsion also features the Narcissus Jonquilla Extract. Alcohol, fragrance, fatty acids and fatty alcohols are also contained in this emulsion, just in case anyone is sensitive to these ingredients.
I really enjoyed this product and find this to be a really lovely lightweight and hydrating lotion to use in the last step of my morning routine, which is really saying something given that I live in hot and humid Singapore. As and when necessary, I also find this to be a suitable carrier to mix with other products in small amounts such as rosehip, squalene or marula oil, or even my Stratia Liquid Gold for added slip before my final moisturizer step in my evening routine.
On its own, this has a lightweight and non-oily consistency that spreads smoothly and dries down to a satin finish, forming an almost indiscernible barrier between my skin and the environment. Best of all, it plays nice with my sunscreen and makeup when I apply them after my skincare steps without any noticeable pilling and lasts me through the day without turning my face into a greaseball. That said, I’m a dry-skinned gal so I’m not too sure how this would fare for oily-skinned folks, but I’m optimistic!
This actually comes close to attaining a Holy Grail (HG) status for me if not for the presence of fragrance and alcohol in the ingredients, both of which I’m trying to cut out of my routine as explained earlier. However, I’m willing to overlook this since alcohol is much lower in the list as compared to the toner, and I will most likely repurchase until I find a similarly lightweight but alcohol- and fragrance-free lotion that works just as well for me as a day moisturizer.
Rating: 4/5. Would’ve been 5/5 if not for the fragrance and alcohol.

One of the worst Acne No More Reviews I read talked about how the advice was so hard to follow.
I agree the secret to success that the programme prescribes is something that would take effort, but that doesn’t make the advice bad.
Take it from me – I’ve suffered from acne for so long that I’d do anything in a heartbeat to escape from the condition.
And escape I did, after a long, hard battle against my temptations, all thanks to Mike Walden’s revolutionary acne treatment methods.
Hey guys, I’m Manju from London, and in this Acne No More Review, I’m going to talk about my experience with the programme, its pros and cons, and if spending your hard-earned money is worth it.
So, grab a cup of coffee and sit tight because this is going to be long!
How Far Are You Ready To Go To Get Rid of Acne?
“Acne No More” is over 200 pages of solid advice!
It goes into the diet, exercise and lifestyle change a lot of people will not be comfortable with. You will have to leave behind your normal food, and go on a regular detox.
One point Mike makes at the beginning of the book, that 95% of the Natural Treatments do not work is very true.
I've tried almost everything. I've gone for fruit packs, a hundred natural remedies, and at the end of the day, the pesky zits always came back. The problem, which I understood by reading through this book was that I never went far enough.
Of course, I was making sacrifices. I was using all the recommended cleansers and face washes. However, the acne always came back. Sometimes during really inopportune times.
What I found that, while, I was spending a lot of bucks behind these treatments, I was ignoring a major part of my lifestyle, my diet, my way of living and how it influenced my skin.
The Complete “Acne No More” Formula
You might be confused with the term "Pillars" and how its related to acne. Don't worry, pillar just means what Acne No More system is build on.
Without giving away too much and rip off the author, I'll briefly explain what he goes through in each pillar.
The first step to the programme is to flush your body of toxins. This brings back your liver and kidney to optimal functions so that you can work at full capacity. This is the place where you would be required to make some sacrifices to your diet and go for dietary changes.
This is when your body will re-discover nutrition in new ways. For me, this was one of the changes I felt uncomfortable with because it needed large sacrifices in the case of my diet.
Ever tried a juice cleanse? Detoxification is basically that, this is the part of the book which would require you to lose some of the food from your daily life and go for detoxification using juice cleanses.
This was my favorite part of the book. Mike Walden gives great tips for relaxing your mind and being stress-free. Stress can easily complicate acne problems (this was news to me!), so this helps you with tips to sleep properly and be more stress-free in your daily life.
The last pillar is, of course, the natural skin care remedies. Now, that you are leading a healthy lifestyle, now, the home remedies would work properly, and there are also lots of tips for making the skin care remedies work for everyone.
The 7 Magic Chapter?!
To beat acne, you have to go through this rigorous seven-step programme that will put your resilience to rest. Do not skip any part of this guide!
This is a detailed guide to dealing with the hormonal imbalances in your body, and going through the day in a way that does not cause random fluctuations of hormones.
The foods you need to get rid of to cure acne. Remember to sit down with this particular part with enough tissues in hand, you’re going to need them. Mike holds back no punches, and this includes a lot of sacrifices that you might not be ready to make.
These are simple steps to make your life easier so that you can deal with problems without much stress.
What you should eat.
This lists the foods and vegetables that help you in losing acne. Now, that you have left all the food that you used to eat that was unhealthy, which healthy foods should you take.
This is the flushing of toxins step, where the detoxification and the other ideas come into play.
This was the simply the best step in the book for me.
It dealt with all the external factors that affect the skincare regime. Including pollution and heat are dealt with here. Milke gives some pretty solid tips about dealing with these problems.
How to stop acne from getting back at you. This is the step that ensures that you’ll not have breakouts after trying out the programme.
In total there are 8 chapters, but chapter 1 is mostly introduction and getting you started.
Have a glimpse of the chapters! I have blurred out most of the content to respect the author of the book.
Why Did I Choose this Book?
I knew I had to give this book a try after discovering that Mike himself had suffered from persistent acne for over 13 years before curing himself holistically.
I also found many reviews which claimed that this book was an amazing solution to acne.
Let's be honest here; I've knocked on the doors of every dermatologist in London trying to get rid of my acne. The expensive medicine that I used regularly wouldn’t even come close to stopping my breakouts, and it made me feel terrible.
So, why did I choose this book in particular?
1. Nothing else worked
From traditional treatments to cutting-edge technology, I tried everything in my power to stop my breakouts from coming back. Even though I’m quite suspicious of telemarketers, I've even ordered from them to try and bring this problem down.
2. It offered something natural
There’s a reason why “Lush” is one of my favorite brands of skincare products. I adore natural products and try to live a holistic lifestyle as much as possible in real life.
It is one of those things that holds huge value for me overall and is important for me.
3. Mike Walden’s impressive degrees
Who would you rather get your advice from?
Some random author with no credentials or someone who has experienced acne and is a certified nutritionist and a health professional.
I think that's a given.
Mike’s book was one of the only treatments that I found which was prepared by a trained health professional and a nutritionist instead of a “self-published Amazon author” trying to make a few quick bucks. Seriously, there is no regurgitated info here.
4. It was mostly diet-based
I'd be honest with you, I found it strange that it was a diet-based treatment of acne at first. But I was also exhausted from maintaining a strict skincare regime.
If you’ve ever suffered from acne, you would know that the constant barrage of products takes out a lot from daily life. I had spent a lot of time at home just getting through all the steps of a skincare regime and trying to find a way to get rid of my problems.
5. It was novel
Call me out on this, but I wanted to try out the “Acne No More” formula because it offered something new. For one I've long been tired of finally falling into the same formula again and again, that for me was something I wanted to avoid this time around.
How Did I Know it Would Work?
Honestly speaking, I didn’t.
To start with, I had no idea what a diet-based approach to solving the problem of acne means for a lot of people. However, I looked around for research, and apparently, a diet has a lot to do with acne.
1. High glycemic-food and dairy cause acne
In a large-scale review published on Wiley said that certain foods, like dairy cause acne in a lot of populations. You can check out the review here.
2. Fruits and vegetables, lean proteins and healthy fats keep acne away
In a research done by the folks over at "Dermato Endocrinology ," they suggest the above types of food to keep acne at bay.
3. The American Academy of Dermatologists have also confirmed
So, while, the Dermatologists recommend a full medical regime along with dietary changes, they’ve admitted to the fact that acne is affected by diet. Check out their declaration here.
Initial Impression of No More Acne
I was confused at first. Mike Walden is a certified nutritionist and a health professional, and he critiques a lot of problems that we face when we are fighting acne.
These were things that I had faced personally.
Another thing I found confusing was managing my finances to make up the whole thing. The supplements and the diets that Mike recommends are expensive to maintain long-term.
One thing I did love was how in the Second chapter, there was a detailed outline given about how a variety of factors can cause acne.
In fact, I would not have even started on the guide if he had not given the detailed review of acne in that second chapter because I understood what I was going through and that I had to change.
The changes seemed huge because they were changes that you had to incorporate in your life but, you did not want to. Remember that diet chart that you were given by your fully capable nutritionist to lose weight?
After going through the book twice, I found myself wondering about the same thing. It was one thing if I dismissed it at first hand saying that it was not for me, but trying out something like this couldn't hurt. Plus, I had a lot of interest in trying out a proper detox for a long time.
Why People Might Not Like Acne No More?
I honestly think that a lot of people give up on the “Acne No More” formula because they’re facing one of the following problems.
1. Monetary issues
Budgeting is a serious issue with this kind of diet. However, what I did was measure it up to my regular dermatologist appointments and the kind of medical prescriptions I was wasting my money on for acne treatment. Overall, I ended up saving a lot of money. Not to mention, because I ate fresh produce a lot, my dependence on fast and junk food went down.
You need to budget carefully for this diet.
2. Dietary problems
If you have some problems with your metabolism, it is better to choose some other treatment for acne. There are problems with following this programme daily, exhaustion, being one of the biggest.
Fasting can also be dangerous for people with diabetes, and I believe that is one of the faults with this book.
3. Time management
Since this book relies heavily on daily activities and dietary sacrifices, I found myself making a lot of choices that I honestly would not in a different scenario. I’m quite certain you’ll do too.
The fact that the book helps you to create a proper routine and nutrition is a major plus in my opinion. You’d be forced to adapt or lose out.
4. More trips to the supermarket
Look, I have a full-time job. Sometimes dietary restrictions are something I avoid to make some more time for myself. With this diet, you will find the supermarket a lot more times than you usually do and that might again be something that bothers you.
5. The time it takes to act
While Mike does offer a quick programme for the working people, the whole "Acne No More" programme takes weeks to work completely, which is frustrating for many people.
For me though, it was something that I could accept because let’s be fair, we all have spent years fighting with acne already, what’s some more months of hard work?
What Result Did I Get?
The first month was the hardest part of it all. While I managed my work, I also owned up to the dietary and other changes Mike had suggested.
However, the first two weeks, I gave the quick system a try. What I noticed was that I got visibly fewer breakouts (they still occurred), and the scarring was going away.
Now, I am a yellow-skinned girl, and when scarring occurs, it makes me feel a lot of stress. With this diet plan, I could see that my scarring went down significantly and I was able to concentrate more on work daily.
I also loved that I lost quite a few pounds while on a diet. What can be a better motivator than that?
The breakouts became almost nil. This is the time when I had almost settled into my diet (I had only cheated a little and sneaked in two cheat days when I went out on the dinner dates).
One thing that stopped was the scarring.
The acne disappeared, and my face still managed to look perfect. I was also keeping myself hydrated all the time on the diet, so I saw a lot of improvement in my weight and overall skin tone and quality.
My boyfriend even said that I looked radiant! And there’s no way I can take a compliment from a loved one casually.
I was officially in love!
I had lost the acne, and no breakouts were happening too. The occasional morning that I did wake up with a breakout, I just had to use one of the traditional methods to keep it out. One of the things that I found about myself that whenever I had stress at work, I would end up having breakouts.
I could stop worrying and focus on my life for once, and that was a huge plus for me.
A piece of advice to anyone who would try out this programme, wait till the third month which would likely bring the savings that you’ve been worrying about all this time.
Overall Impression of Acne No More
My whole feeling about this book is positive. I benefited a lot from this programme, and I feel like that it was something that I could use for the long term. While the sacrifices I had to make were heavy, they were nothing compared to the stress I regularly got because of acne.
This is something that I find hard to explain to someone who has never suffered from acne in a capacity that makes them feel terrible.
So, I’d recommend it to everyone around me (I already have).
For all the people who suffer from acne which doesn't seem to quit, I would recommend trying this out for size. Also, it does help with the scarring afterward (something I might hate more than the acne itself). Over time, the redness on my skin has gone down quite a lot, and that has made me a lot more confident in my interactions.
Another thing I would point out that as a direct relation to this diet. I lost a lot of weight which improved my self-confidence a lot. Taking Mike’s advice for stress let me sleep for a long time, and feel a lot better.
However, I take my job of reviewing seriously, and this does not take away the reservations that I've about this treatment.
Is the Book for Everyone?
While I hope that this helped everyone the same way, but it will not. Let’s be honest here; the sacrifices and the supplements that the book recommends are not something that everyone will have access to or would like to make.
If you don’t want to make a long-term commitment don’t go for something like this. There are a lot of synthetic products that give the satisfaction of getting rid of acne for the short-term, which might be more practical for your needs.
It would help if you considered the severity of your situation and then made the decision to try this out as a whole.
Which acne types does it help fight?
The “Acne No More” programme helps in all types of acne related problems, from moderate acne to the recurring nightmares that I used to have. You will have all the information about this when you read through the book, and you would find the stuff that will help you understand.
All you have to do is follow the advice religiously.
Hey, as the saying goes, “No pain, no gain."
"Acne No More" is not a be-all, end-all to all your acne problems, but it sure does get close to being one. It asks you to go that extra mile, sure, but the results are worth it in the end. The book’s advice is something you can rely on to help with acne problems if you do stick to a proper diet.
While I understand the fact that this is a full-time programme and might not be for everyone, I'd still recommend this book to those around me. It has a solid premise, is written by a health professional, and is very likely to show the desired results if you follow through.
I would have preferred a less rigorous routine perhaps, but the thing is, most acne routines are just as ruthless as this one. If I'm taking pills and maintaining an expensive skincare regime while seeing my Dermatologist every week, I'm losing an equivalent amount of time.
So, yeah, Acne No More gets a definite YES from me.

As if facial acne wasn’t enough, many people also have to deal with back acne (or bacne as commonly referred to). It’s a fact that treating acne is a challenging task no matter where they appear.
So what happens when they appear on your back?
How do you get rid of back acne?
Facial acne is a much more common appearance. And although annoying, at least we can cover them up with some good foundation!
But what about back acne?
Should we put bikinis, tank tops, and backless dresses in the past?!
Even though it might seem impossible at first, getting rid of back acne is definitely possible. In order to solve this issue, we first must learn what caused it as well as what treatment options and remedies are available out there.
Find out all of this and more below!
In this article, I’m going to share with you the types of acne that can appear on your back, some of the most common causes of back acne, a few products that have proven to be useful for curing back acne, as well as some pretty powerful home remedies that will help youget rid of acne fast!
If you need an answer to the question ‘How to get rid of back acne,' continue reading below!
A more serious type of acne which is actually very commonly found on the back, because the skin there is much thicker than the rest of your body.
These cysts are what brings the danger of permanent scarring, so they need to be treated as soon as possible.
No matter what, never try to get rid of a cyst on your own!
This is the biggest mistake you could do.
Cysts are very deep and large, which means most of the times they will need to be surgically or dermatological treated.
What Are The Causes of Back Acne?
Acne, in general, are caused by a buildup of sebum, bacteria, dirt and dead skin cells in your skin's follicles or pores. When this happens, your pore becomes blocked, and the bacteria that are trapped inside can cause inflammation and swelling.
This is what we know as acne!
However, even though all acne forms the same way, not all have the same causes.
The underlying cause of acne can severely differentiate from one case to another. And it depends on many factors such as the placement position of the acne, the hormonal balance in the body, the severity of the acne…
All of these things are clues that can show us the reason why you developed acne.
Knowing how to get rid of back acne is impossible without first determining the cause of it.
When it comes to back acne, there can be a few different reasons why they have started to appear:
If you feel that you're doing everything right and your hormones are also in order, but you still cannot get rid of back acne, sometimes it's fine to blame genes.
Acne predisposition is a real thing so if your parents had or still have acne, the chances are high that you will also struggle with it throughout your life.
Although genes and acne are closely connected, you should still try to adopt some healthy habits that will decrease the acne breakouts as much as possible.
Androgens, especially the male hormone testosterone, are the main culprit when it comes to hormonal back acne!
If you are taking testosterone to treat some existing medical condition, back acne might be a common appearance.
Also, women who suffer from PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) might suffer from the same bacne breakout problems, since in most of the cases they will have a higher-than-normal testosterone level.
This can be taken care of with the help of androgen-blockers or birth control pills.
Unfortunately, when the cause is hormonal, there’s not much you can do until your hormones are back under control. Treating your underlying condition will automatically improve your back acne!
There’s no science in this – just eat a healthy and balanced diet!
Well, actually, science agrees with this.
Recent studies have shown that cutting back on dairy, processed foods, sugar and simple carbs can really improve acne conditions. A diet rich in fresh products, fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, nuts, and seeds is good not just for flushing out toxins and clearing out your skin but also for your overall health.
This doesn’t mean that you should completely eliminate a certain food group. Instead, eat everything in moderation. If you think that a certain food is triggering or worsening your back acne, try to eliminate foods one by one to find out which of them is your ‘enemy’.
Although stress cannot be the direct cause of your back acne, it can definitely complicate or worsen the condition.
It is well established that stress negatively affects all body processes and organs, skin being also one of them.
Try to avoid and decrease stress as much as possible. I know it’s not as easy as it sounds but you have to give it your best.
Do things you enjoy, spend time with loved ones, meditate, do yoga, walk in nature, listen to music, anything that makes you feel calm and relaxed!
If you do not have a skin that’s prone to acne, yet you suddenly started noticing acne breakouts on your back, it’s time to check the medicine cabinet!
Certain medications such as androgens, antidepressants, or lithium can cause acne to appear in different places on your body, including your back.
In this case, you can try talking to your doctor to see if there is a substitute for those medications. If this is not possible and you absolutely must continue taking medicine, you will have to make sure that you keep those acne under control with some effective acne remedies.
Did you know that sweating is actually healthy for you? Just as long as you wash it off as soon as possible!
When you neglect your shower after being sweaty the whole day or after an exhausting gym session, your back acne situation will definitely worsen!
Old sweat, especially under tight and artificial clothing, is one of the biggest reasons for the appearance of acne (of course, unless the underlying cause is a medical condition)!
So, if you do not suffer from any of the other acne-causing problems on this list, just a shower a day can be the solution for you.
When you are sweaty, it’s important to shower and wash the sweat off as soon as possible, without giving it a chance to mix up with bacteria and dead skin and clog up your pores.
All gym goers – listen up carefully!!!
Shower immediately after the gym!
The gym is said to be one of the most bacteria-ridden places ever. Just imagine that everyone is touching the same machines and same weights as you, and everyone’s sweat is on them (yuck!).
No matter if it’s the gym, jogging, or just a long day at work, take a shower daily to get rid of all the dirt and bacteria that accumulated on your body throughout the whole day.
However, the key here is not just to stand under the shower but actually wash your back!
Yes, I know this sounds ridiculous, but it's pretty common that people forget to wash or exfoliate the back.
First of all, it can be kind of difficult to wash.
Second, well, the back doesn't smell right… so why to waste time trying to wash it?
You need to wash and treat your back the same way you do your face, especially if acne appears there often.
If reaching to wash your back is uncomfortable, buy a gentle exfoliating brush or sponge that will help you get rid of the dead skin on your back, thus preventing clogged pores and acne.
Using products that don’t fit your skin type or products that do not fit the yearly season can also be a valid cause for your back acne.
The rule is that in the summer we have to use lighter and non-comedogenic products and in the winter we can afford to use heavier and creamy-like moisturizers.
In the summer, our body will naturally hydrate itself from the warm climate and our perspiration. So, there's no need of heavy creams or body butter.
How to get rid of back acne?
Don't use any body lotion for a while!
I know it sounds weird, but sometimes we just have to give our skin some time to breathe and be clean.
And finally, if you were not able to find your back acne cause in the above list, maybe the problem is in your clothing.
When you suffer from back acne, one of the most important things that will help you get rid of it faster is letting your skin breathe!
Instead of wearing tight-fit dresses and shirts made out of artificial materials, wear natural, cotton clothes and materials that will not irritate your skin. This will prevent those tiny mechanical injuries to the skin as well as sweating and rubbing the inflamed skin.
The Best Back Acne Home Remedy
Back acne, as well as all other types of acne for that matter, can be successfully treated with home remedies for acne. You do not need to spend your monthly budget for expensive and luxury products to get the effects you desire!
Surprising to many who are wondering how to get rid of back acne, sea salt is one of the absolute best home remedies for this purpose!
It’s even more surprising the fact that it’s not good to have a diet high in salt but recommended to use sea salt as an external back acne home remedy.
When I say sea salt, I really mean sea salt.
Do not use normal, table salt for this purpose because the iodine in it might actually worsen your acne condition.
Why is sea salt so effective in treating back acne?
Scientists suppose that this effect comes from its ability to dry out the skin, thus getting rid of all that stuck sebum and oil in your pores. Another reason might be its power to destroy the bacteria that causes the acne inflammation. No matter the reason, this is by far one of the most effective solutions for my back acne.
To use sea salt as a home remedy for back acne, just simply pour 3 or 3 cups of sea salt into your warm bath and soak in it for about half an hour. Then, step out of the bath and pat dry your skin.
If your skin is not too dry, it’s best to not apply any moisturizer or lotion on your skin. Just leave your skin dry out and breathe.
Feel free to repeat this routine daily.
Satisfied users of this method have reported seeing visible improvements in their back acne condition after just one short week!
I think it’s definitely worth giving it a try!
A word of advice: drink a lot of water in the period when you are doing this home treatment because the salt in the water will dehydrate your body, so you need to replenish and hydrate it.
2. Epsom Salt
A slightly cheaper but still effective alternative to sea salt is Epsom salt. This salt is actually just a different name for magnesium sulfate – a natural mineral compound.
Magnesium has many anti-inflammatory and calming properties which will reduce the inflammation, redness, redness, irritation, etc.
At the same time, the magnesium can effectively flush out toxins from your body, which will not only improve your back acne condition but also give benefits to your overall health!
So, if you are always wondering how to get rid of back acne as fast as possible, Epsom salt might be the best solution for you!
Using this effective cure is incredibly easy.
Just add 1 or 2 cups of Epsom salt in your regular, warm bath. However, make sure to not use any additional products in the bath such as shower gels, bath bombs or anything similar. Just warm water and Epsom salt.
Same as with sea salt, Epsom salt can dehydrate your body so always ensure that you consume enough liquids and electrolytes after the Epsom salt bath.
To make this home remedy even more effective, use a gentle glove or exfoliating sponge to remove all the dead skin cells. Exfoliation while your skin is wet and your pores are open is one of the most effective ways to remove old skin layers!
3. Tea Tree Oil
And finally, my third favorite back acne home remedy is tea tree oil.
Known for ages for its anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and anti-bacterial properties, tea tree oil is an effective cure not just for acne but also for bigger problems such as acne scars and marks.
The outstanding bacteria-killing powers of tea tree oil is what makes it such an effective cure for all types of acne, including back acne. This feature of tea tree oil comes from its compound Terpinen-4-ol and its anti-microbial strengths.
Remember that pure tea tree oil should never be applied directly on the skin. This is a medicinal and very concentrated and strong oil which will probably cause severe skin irritation and even burns and blisters.
Always use tea tree oil diluted!
For mixing with water, the best ratio is 5:95 which, for example, means 5mL of tea tree oil mixed with 95mL of purified water.
If you use this oil only as a spot treatment, maybe you can afford using more oil but always make sure to test it first!
For spot treatments, use the diluted tea tree oil with a Q-tip and apply only directly on the acne itself.
If you have a larger area covered with acne (such as your back), use it in the recommended ratio so that you can apply it all over the area without damaging or burning your skin.
Aside from water, tea tree oil can also be mixed with other neutral and mild oils such as coconut or olive oil. Just one or two drops will be enough in this case. You can even put two or three drops of tea tree oil into your body moisturizer if you wish to have a better effect.
Each time you apply this moisturizer on your back, the tea tree oil in it will help existing acne from worsening as well as prevent new back acne breakouts.
Be careful! If your back acne condition is extremely severe or you have large cysts on your back, probably home remedies or conventional over-the-counter products will not be enough for you! In this case, always visit a dermatologist before taking any drastic steps you might regret later on!
In severe cases, cysts might require surgical procedures while severe acne might need to be treated with antibiotics to kill the bacteria or other prescription medication.
Conclusion - My favorite product
Making a positive impact on your health, beauty, and self-confidence is what I have tried to achieve with this article, in the hope that my tips will help yet another back acne sufferer the same way they helped me!
Hopefully, I’ve managed to give a clear answer to all your questions!
Back acne is a very common problem that many people face, regardless of their age or gender.
As I have previously mentioned, the first step in your journey towards a clear and smooth back is to find out what the underlying cause of your acne is. When you figure this out, half of the job is already done, and it will be much easier to figure out what to do.
If these back acne home remedies aren’t enough for you and you’d rather go a different direction and try a product that’s available on the market, I would recommend the Body Acne Kit By Exposed Skincare which contains a 12oz body wash as well as two acne treatment serums.
This is my favorite product to use when I notice back acne breakouts because it perfectly combines science and nature. Merged together, the power of Benzoyl Peroxide, Green Tea Extract, and Tea Tree Oil make this kit an incredibly..
Perfumes, lotions or detergents that contain perfumes
Sweating through your clothes when working out
Prolonged sun exposure
Overly dry skin
Greasy and oily lotions or moisturizers
Foods high in sugar or simple carbs
As you can see, there can be many different reasons why acne starts appearing on your chest. So how do you get rid of chest acne? Well, there can be many solutions to this problem.
Find out the best 25 ways to get rid of chest acne below!
1. Wear loose clothes
Your skin needs space to breathe!
Remember this and adjust your clothing choices. If you have problems with chest acne, forget about nylon, wool, and similar irritating and tight clothes. Instead, try to wear clothes that allow your chest to breathe.
One of the best options for this is wearing looser clothes made of cotton. Like this, your skin can breathe, and it won't be irritated.
2. Drink more water
No matter if it’s chest or face acne, more water is the first golden rule!
Water flushes out toxins and bad bacteria from your body. So, instead of waiting for this dirt to pop out in the shape of a pimple, hydrate yourself and drink at 8 glasses of water per day.
An additional bonus tip – add some lemon or cucumbers in your water in order to feel a better detoxifying effect.
This is another very important point – especially in the summer months when we are sweating, and all the dirt and pollution sticks to our skin. Showering once a day, every day is a must!
When you shower before going to bed, for example, you remove all the dirt accumulated on your skin throughout the day. This will prevent clogged pores, thus diminish the chances of an acne breakout.
For the best results, never use hot water but rather lukewarm water. And at the end of your shower, be courageous and rinse your body with cold water for a couple of seconds.
This will not only improve circulation but also close the pores so that there are fewer chances of dirt particles entering your skin.
4.Switch to non-comedogenic moisturizers
When you use a heavy and oily lotion to moisturize your body, it can get stuck in your pores. Like this, the moisturizer itself can be the main culprit for your acne breakout.
If you think that this might be the problem, switch to a non-comedogenic and lighter lotion or milk. Use water-based moisturizers instead of oil-based and make sure that they don't make your skin oily but instead, they get absorbed and leave only this beautiful, soft feeling on your skin.
5. Use exfoliators
Exfoliation is also an important step if you are wondering how to get rid of chest acne. You probably know that we are all constantly shedding dead skin cells and our skin is renewed. Well, why not speed up this process a bit?
Our bodies are not always perfect, so we need to give a helping hand once in a while. Dead skin cells can sometimes get stuck in your pores which combined with the dirt and sebum can cause what we know as acne.
If you wish to get rid of chest acne, find a gentle exfoliator and use it at least once a week.
Of course, avoid exfoliation altogether if you have open-wound acne on your chest!
And finally, even though exfoliation is an important step in your way towards a clearer skin, don’t over exaggerate and don’t be too rough with your skin. Otherwise, you might cause even more irritation and pimples since acne exfoliation can be a bit tricky!
6. Change your laundry detergents
If you cannot find a good reason why you suddenly started noticing acne on your chest, then look in your laundry room, and you might have the answer right there – in front of your eyes.
It is very common that the skin can be overly sensitive to certain detergents or washing powders, especially if they contain artificial perfumes and fragrances. Yes, of course, your clothes will smell nice, but there are better and safer options for your skin out there.
Do a test run and try to switch to a milder detergent in order to see if your acne condition has improved. If it has, then your skin is definitely sensitive to laundry detergents, and now you will know what to use the next time!
7. Start using an anti-acne body wash
If none of the above helped you get rid of your chest acne, try using a body wash which is specially formulated to treat acne-infected skin.
Such lotions will most likely contain salicylic acid which will control the sebum production and dry out your skin in order to reduce acne.
When it comes to acne-fighting products, you might need to do some tests and experiments until you find the products that work for you.
You’d be surprised how many people forget the importance of a shower right after working out!
Especially if you are working out in a gym where everyone sweats!
Your skin doesn't need long to get clogged and form acne. So, to avoid this as much as possible, shower right after your gym session. And the same goes for each type of physical activity.
Even if it's just some garden work – when it's hot, and you are sweating, a shower is a must!
You should quickly see an improvement in your chest acne.
9. Eat better food
And of course, I have to mention the food choices we all make daily.
It’s not just about chest acne, and it’s not even about acne in general. Eating a balanced and healthy diet can improve every organ in your body (including your skin as your biggest organ)!
How to get rid of chest acne?
Eat more vegetables, fruits, complex carbs, lean protein, etc. Make sure that your whole body is as healthy as possible. Trust me, the acne will go away on their own when you bring balance back to your body.
Next time, instead of ordering a takeout burger, order or make yourself a nice and rich salad. It will be just as delicious!
10.Differentiate summer versus winter products
If you only get chest acne in the summer, you might want to consider replacing your winter products with summer ones.
Forget your thick and greasy moisturizer and instead purchase a lighter one that’s water-based.
Also, forget about the heavy perfume you always apply on your chest during summer. As a replacement, you could either avoid putting any perfume on your chest whatsoever or use a lighter body spray.
In the summer months, your skin is never is dry as in winter because it gets hydrated naturally from the perspiration and the hot weather, so you really don’t need thick creams and lotions.
The same goes with any makeup you might be applying on your chest.
Give it a rest!
Trying to hide your chest acne with makeup might seem like a good idea, but it will prove worse in the long run.
11.Topical spot-on treatments
Some spot treatments for pimples and acne can be a great way to get rid of chest pimples.
Some of these products can be bought over the counter, while for others you might need to visit a dermatologist. For example, products containing retinol might need a prescription.
And this is for a good reason – some of these products can be too harsh for certain skin types, so always start with a smaller dose and gradually bring it up if it doesn’t irritate or harm your skin.
12. Never pick on your chest acne
The same rule applies for any acne, but your chest and back are two areas which are especially prone to marks and scarring, so avoid popping pimples there no matter what!
Chest acne is a common appearance and nothing you should be ashamed of. If it bothers you so much for a special occasion, try putting a bit of light, water-based and non-comedogenic foundation.
13. Regularly change your sponge and exfoliating glove
Wet and warm places are the perfect environment for bacteria to grow and multiply. Such “places” are your sponge and your exfoliation glove.
Replace these with new once every 1 or 2 months, so that you avoid showering with even more bacteria!
The same goes for your pillow cases, blankets, and any other thing that touches your skin!
14. After-beach routine
The same as going to the gym, going to the beach also needs a shower as soon as possible.
During the summer days, especially when you are at the beach, you sweat a lot and your glands produce more sebum and oils, which in return results in acne. Plus, add the dirt and the sand that sticks to your body, as well as the sunscreen, and you get an inflamed pimple.
For this reason, it’s important to shower immediately after you come back from the gym. When you rinse out all the dirt and sweat from your skin before they enter your pores, you decrease the chances of getting acne.
Just like with regular facial acne, stress is a huge factor for chest acne as well. In fact, it can worsen acne no matter where they are on your body.
In order to get rid of chest acne, try to lower the stress in your life as much as possible. And yes, I know this is not always so easy, but there definitely are ways.
For example, try to stay away from conflicts and stressful situations or start with some calming and relaxing type of exercises such as yoga or meditation.
Different things work best for different people, so try out some stress-releasing techniques and find out what works best for you personally!
16. Don’t over-dry your chest skin
Sometimes, in an attempt to get rid of acne, you might make the mistake of over-drying your skin and thus cause more acne.
Even though it’s true that you are supposed to dry out acne with some products, you are not supposed to make it overly dry or otherwise, your acne situation might worsen.
When your skin is too dry, you are basically causing the opposite effect. As soon as your skin becomes too dry, your body will produce extra sebum to moisturize your skin. And extra sebum is the last thing we need when we suffer from acne.
For this reason, no matter what product you use, whether that’s exfoliators, salicylic acid, even acne body washes, don’t overdo it!
Sometimes, especially when acne appears on your chest suddenly and without any obvious cause, you might actually have allergies to something. This can be practically any cosmetic product you have recently started using such as lotions, perfumes, washing detergents, soaps, etc.
Start removing products from your daily routine slowly and one by one, so that you can figure out which product causes your chest acne breakouts.
18. Unwashed clothes or bedding
Acne on your chest can sometimes appear simply because of bad hygiene. Make sure that your clothes, towels, pajamas, and bedding sheets and blankets are washed regularly.
Clothes, bedding, and towels all have bacteria and dead skin cells on them. Even if they don't smell bad, you still need to wash all of these things regularly to destroy the bacteria and remove the dirt that accumulates on them.
19. Sea salt water
Sea salt water is an incredible cure for chest acne. It opens the pores, kills the bacteria that's build up in your pores, and acts as a gentle exfoliator to remove all the excess dead skin cells from the surface of your skin.
To prepare this magical cure, all you need to do is soak a towel in water and sea salt and place it on the affected area on your chest. Let it dry and then repeat the process a couple of times. If possible, even stay overnight like this so that you let the sea salt get absorbed and do its magic!
Of course, you will probably need to do this daily, a few days in a row to see visible results. But trust me, it will be worth it!
20. Calamine lotion
Used for ages, Calamine is one of the safest topical lotions with the greatest medical benefit. Aside from being used to treat skin irritations and insect bites, Calamine lotion can also be used as a cure for chest acne.
And that’s not all!
Calamine is also famous for its scar-reducing properties. So, this feature of Calamine can help you fade away those annoying acne marks, blemishes, and redness that don’t seem to go away!
21. Tea Tree oil
Probably one of the most well-known acne cures is tea tree oil.
This is a powerful yet natural solution to your chest acne problem!
Just use tea tree oil as a spot treatment directly on each acne or use it diluted and smear it all over the affected areas.
There are also many anti-acne products out there that contain tea tree oil as their main ingredient. So find the one suitable for you and use it regularly for the best results.
Lemon is also one of the best natural anti-acne treatments! The acidity of lemons has the ability to decompose and suck out all the impurities from within your pores and prevent further clogging and acne.
When you use lemon juice on your chest, the best is to cut one lemon in half and rub the affected area with it. Then, leave the lemon juice on for some hours before washing it off to give it more time to work on your acne.
Do this a couple of times per week, and you will soon start to see incredible improvements.
How to get rid of chest acne? Slap that breakfast all over them!
Oatmeal is yet another incredible homemade cure for acne which produces amazing results if used regularly!
Its anti-inflammatory properties and its ability to absorb oil from your skin are what makes this breakfast favorite also an acne favorite!
In order to prepare this oatmeal paste for your chest acne, boil some oatmeal and add some lemon and honey. Once your oatmeal is done and it gets a thick and smooth consistency, rub it all over the acne-affected chest area and leave it there to dry.
When it's dry, wash it off with lukewarm water. The next day, repeat the process. Do this regularly, and you will see a visible decrease of acne on your chest.
This powerful vegetable is not just good for our immune system and overall health but also for treating chest acne (and any other type of acne for that matter)!
Garlic contains a compound called Allicin which can kill the bacteria that are present in acne pimples and repair your skin tissue. In this way, you will treat your existing chest acne as well as fade all the marks left on your skin from any previous acne.
Plus, garlic has anti-inflammatory properties which will soften the irritation and reduce the acne redness.
You can cut a garlic clove in half and rub it on the affected areas, or you can crush the garlic into a paste and apply it in this form. Leave it on for 15 or 20 minutes and then rinse well.
25. Finally, visit a Dermatologist
If none of the things I have mentioned in this list helps you get rid of your chest acne, then a visit to the dermatologist is in order!
Sometimes, what we think is acne might turn out to be another condition that has different treatment options, so you need to visit your dermatologist as soon as possible!
If you have tried all the safe options and still did not see results, do not reach to stronger medication such as antibiotics on your own, especially since you do not know the root of the problem.
For example, if the problem is hormonal, then topical cures might not do anything for you. That's why the dermatologist is always the first step before doing something you'll regret later.
I really hope you found this article to be helpful and that you were able to incorporate some of my tips into your daily routine. If so, congratulations on being one step closer to having a clear skin!

And guess how we call this – yep, that’s right – this is now an acne scar!

When compared to traditional products, acne scar home remedies will have several differences which I’m going to group into pros and cons.
Next, lemons contain acid which acts as a natural and mild exfoliator. This feature will help you remove dead skin cells and promote skin shedding and renewal.

Apple Cider Vinegar has been used for decades to treat all types of health and cosmetic problems. Since this vinegar is a natural astringent, it can increase blood flow and with this accelerate your skin's healing and regenerative abilities.
This results in a much faster acne scar disappearance.
Since apple cider vinegar can be a bit harsh on the skin, it’s best to use it diluted in some water. Mix a ratio of 1:1 vinegar to water and dip a small cotton ball in this mixture.
Apply this solution only on the affected areas of skin.
Use it either daily or every second day if it dries out your skin too much, and you will soon start noticing visible results.

9. Vitamin E Oil
Vitamin E oil is a natural antioxidant which can ward off free radicals and improve many skin diseases including acne and acne scars.

Gives a new meaning to the term ‘beauty sleep’!
I always perceived cucumbers as "mostly water." And I still cannot believe just how wrong I was! It turns out, there's a good reason why cucumbers have been used for skin health for ages!
Aside from being super-hydrating for your skin, cucumbers are also full of Vitamins (A, C), minerals, and magnesium. All of these compounds are incredibly beneficial for your skin health, especially in the aspect of fading acne marks and scars.

Fenugreek is an incredible plant famous in the Indian culture and used both in their cuisine as well as for its health benefits.
Apart from its skin whitening and hair strengthening properties, Fenugreek can also be used to speed up the healing process, reduce wrinkles, reduce stretch marks, and guess what – fade acne scars!
Researchers consider the seeds and leaves of Fenugreek to be one of the best acne scar home remedies.
This opinion comes from its high content of Vitamin K.
For years back, Vitamin K has been used as a treatment for stretch marks, discoloration, pigmentation, spider veins, and acne scars. Aside from Vitamin K, Fenugreek is also rich in Vitamin A, calcium, zinc, selenium, magnesium, and iron.
A legit health bomb!
In order for your skin to take in all these ingredients, it’s best to boil or soak the Fenugreek seeds overnight, and then grind them together with some honey. Like this, you will get a paste which is easily applicable to your face.
Apply this paste on your whole face and massage it a bit so that it doubles as a mild exfoliator. Leave the paste on for about 20 minutes and then wash it off with lukewarm water.
13. Sugar Scrub
I chose sugar as an exfoliating agent not just because of its coarseness, but also because sugar cane contains glycolic acid able to speed up skin regeneration, meaning it will help you get rid of acne scars much faster.
To make this exfoliating scrub more effective, mix it with lemon juice so that you get a paste-like consistency.
However, sugar exfoliation can be a bit rough on the skin, especially if you still have active acne, so be careful not to overdo it.
Many people have found this oil to be the best natural alternative for getting rid of both acne and acne scars, without causing any of the nasty side effects of conventional over-the-counter or prescription medication.
The antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory features of tea tree oil are what gives it the power to treat acne and acne scars effectively.
You can either put some drops of diluted tea tree oil directly on the affected areas only or mix a few drops with some neutral oil such as coconut, and apply it all over your face.
15. Castor Oil
Known for its rich Vitamin E and Omega-3 content, Castor oil is an essential item to keep in your drawer if you have acne scar problems.
These powerful compounds in Castor oil will make your skin deeply moisturized, give it more elasticity, and help your skin rejuvenate and repair faster.
Furthermore, Castor oil can help with skin discoloration and pigmentation caused by acne and sun damage.
To use this effective acne scar remedy is very easy – simply put some drops of this oil on your fingers and apply it on your scarred area.
Leave it to work its magic overnight! You will be amazed at how soft and fresh your skin looks in the morning.
In fresh garlic, there is a compound called allicin which is the main reason why this vegetable can be an incredible acne scar remedy.
Allicin has some incredibly strong antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties which will not only help your acne scars to heal but will also prevent additional acne breakouts!
To use this cure and achieve results, it’s best to cut one garlic clove in half and rub it on your acne scarred area.
Alternatively, another great option is to mince or grind the garlic clove so that it releases allicin and apply this paste to the scarred skin.
Use this daily for the best results!
17. Egg Whites
It’s often we hear about the incredible effects of egg white masks. They have been used for ages as an effective way to get rid of blackheads, tighten the skin, and lighten up some marks and hyperpigmentation.
Well, guess what, egg whites are also an incredible cure for acne scars.
For the best results, you can also add some lemon juice in the egg whites and whisk this mixture well.
When it becomes white and foam-like, apply it as a mask on your face and leave it there for approximately 30 minutes.
Just wash your face afterward with lukewarm water, and you're done!
Feel free to repeat this treatment daily, and within 2 or 3 weeks you should already notice visible results.
Personally, I’ve never noticed a big difference or improvement when I used conventional acne scar products as opposed to acne scar home remedies.
For me, the home remedies were always a better option because they gave me incredible results without any strong side effects, besides some soft skin irritation if you overuse some remedy.
As you can see, there are many nature-given cures for this problem which means you do not have to burn a hole in your pocket to get rid of acne scars.
The advice that I would give you, no matter which acne scar treatment you decide to use, is to use it regularly and consistently if you wish to see results.
Unless you submit yourself to cosmetic procedures and needles, there is no magic cure that will cure your acne scars after one application. Both home remedies, as well as conventional products, need time to work!
Finally, make sure to love, respect, and appreciate yourself with all your marks and scars! Remember that no one is perfect and we all have something we don’t like about ourselves. Learn how to love yourself from the inside out! And remember – establishing a few simple, healthy habits can sometimes be more powerful than buying one expensive product that you barely use!
I hope you found my list of acne scar home remedies beneficial and that one of these natural cures was exactly the thing you were looking for! If you have any more ideas or know different natural treatments that work well for resolving acne scars, share them with us in the comments. Like this, we will mutually help each other and other people who are fighting this same problem!
Many studies so far have been looking at the connection between the food we eat in our daily lives and the appearance of acne. And the results of these studies showed what many people had already noticed – the way we eat can really improve or worsen acne!
When we look at the relation between acne and food choices, most sources tell us what we should not eat.
Some of the foods that are on the “NO” list if you suffer from acne are cow’s milk, sugar, junk foods, simple carbs, white flour, processed foods, etc.
However, there is not much focus on what we should eat if we want to get rid of acne faster and achieve that glowing and clear skin.
Here, I will give you a complete list of 15 magical foods you can eat to battle acne and get that perfect complexion you are always dreaming of.
Of course, don't expect that your acne will be gone immediately when you eat a certain food. It’s all in the routine and small daily changes.
Changing your eating habits is the first thing you need to do if you are battling acne. And here is what to eat:
Throughout the history of civilizations, it’s rare to find an acne-sufferer in regions where people eat mostly vegetables. All vegetables are good for your skin, but especially dark leafy vegetables and cucumbers. Cucumbers are mostly water, which means they flush out all the toxins from your body and clear out the skin.
In fact, cucumbers are a known acne-fighting ingredient and can be found in many acne creams and ointments.
On the other hand, dark leafy vegetables such as spinach and kale contain many vitamins and antioxidants that fight free radicals and are beneficial not only for clearing up acne but also for your whole body and health in general.
Same as with vegetables, in countries where fruit intake is higher, there have been much fewer acne appearances. To cure and diminish acne, it’s especially important to eat citrus fruits and antioxidant-rich fruits such as grapefruit, lemons, oranges, blueberries, melons, strawberries, etc.
All of these foods are rich in Vitamin C which is an incredible healing and regenerative vitamin. You will notice much less scarring and your skin complexion will significantly improve.
Aside from these, fruits and vegetables that contain beta-carotene are another powerful acne-fighting weapon.
Great options include sweet potatoes, cantaloupes, bell peppers, apricots, yams, carrots, pumpkin, etc. Not only that these foods fight acne, but they’re also very rich in fibers which makes them fulfilling.
So, if your goal is to fight acne, while at the same time curb your hunger and drop some pounds (who doesn’t need that!), feel free to indulge in these foods.
3. Omega-3-rich Foods
The instant skin glow that we can get from consuming Omega-3s is close to magical! Clearing acne is one of the many skin benefits of Omega-3!
The inflammation-reducing properties of these good fats are incredibly beneficial for fading away your red acne marks and reducing acne breakouts in general.
If you wish to increase your consumption of these good fats in your diet and get clearer skin, try to eat more walnuts, salmon, flaxseed, seeds, nuts, etc.
Great choices of nuts that have acne-fighting properties are almonds, walnuts, peanuts, etc. If you prefer the crunchiness of seeds, indulge in pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, chia seeds, flaxseeds, etc. Your skin will be so grateful!
4. Probiotic Food
Your body can have healthy and unhealthy bacteria. Needless to say, we want more of the first one and less of the second. In order to restore the balance in your body in general, you need healthy bacteria in your gut.
Did you know that your gut is the greatest immune system booster? More than half of your immune cells are located there, so the balance of your whole body can be regulated through your healthy gut.
As you can imagine, the skin is the biggest organ you have, so if you wish to have less acne and better skin, indulge in foods such as kefir, yogurt, kombucha, hot water with lemon in the mornings, pickles, etc.
5. Antioxidant-rich Foods
Antioxidants fight free radicals in your body and detoxify you from all the bad things that we consume and inhale on a daily basis. People who consume more antioxidant-rich foods have significantly less acne and suffer from fewer conditions and diseases than people whose main source is artificial and junk food.
To get the most of these antioxidant benefits, fill up your place with dark leafy vegetables and dark berries such as blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, red grapes, and much more!
6. Food Rich in Zinc
Zinc is another powerful weapon against acne. Aside from helping Vitamin A to be absorbed better, zinc is also known to control the production of male hormones such as testosterone. The overproduction of male hormones can lead to overproduction of sebum, which in turn, leads to overactive acne.
So, in order to incorporate more zinc in your diet, try eating oysters, fish, dark chicken and turkey meat, beans, and so on. These foods can greatly help you get rid of acne.
7. Food Rich in Selenium
Selenium is a strong antioxidant which can improve the elasticity of our skin as well as to prevent cell damage. So basically, it’s like a holy grail for your skin.
To increase your intake of selenium for clear skin, try eating more Brazil nuts, whole grains, clean meat, fish, garlic, onion, chicken, and turkey.
8. Food Rich in Beta-Carotene
The Selenium that we have mentioned above works best in combination with Beta-carotene which is transformed into Vitamin A in your body. For this, you need to consume foods rich in beta-carotene.
Foods that contain beta-carotene are carrots, pumpkin, yams, bell peppers, cantaloupe, sweet potatoes, and so many more…
To make it simpler, all fruits and vegetables that are colored yellow, orange, red, and anything in between, contain good amounts of beta-carotene
9. Food Rich in Vitamin C
Of course, all fruits and vegetables have good amounts of Vitamin C. However, there are some that are more powerful than others. Some of the most powerful fruits and vegetables you can consume are bell peppers, oranges, strawberries, tomatoes, melons, kiwi, papaya, etc.
Vitamin C will not directly improve your acne, but it has the ability to strengthen and protect your cells, which means your skin will have less scarring and marks from the existing acne. After all, there is a reason why Vitamin C Serums are such a hype nowadays!
Besides, Vitamin C benefits for skin do not stop at acne. Vitamin C has thousands of different uses and benefits for your whole body and general health and wellbeing.
10. Food Rich in Vitamin E
Nowadays, a low-fat diet might seem like a good option to drop some pounds, but it's not very good for consuming enough Vitamin E. For your skin to be healthy, scientists recommend at least 15mg of Vitamin E per day.
You can get Vitamin E from all types of unrefined vegetable oils, almonds, nuts, as well as whole grains. Whenever you have a choice, choose whole grain products over white, highly-refined ones.
On the other hand, be careful if you are also taking a Vitamin E supplement. This is a fat-soluble (as opposed to water-soluble) supplement, so you need to take some oil or fat with it. For example, a salad with some almonds and some olive oil drizzled on it is a perfect way to get more out of this vitamin!
11. Whole-Grain Foods
The more natural and raw you can eat the better for your skin. Instead of white bread, fill your cart with whole-grain bread.
Instead of white rice, try brown, unprocessed rice. And instead of fries, try sweet potatoes or boiled potatoes in your dishes. Try to replace white flour and white flour products with whole-wheat or whole-grain pastries. This will be of huge help in the long run.
Refined and processed foods can spike your insulin levels very fast. Insulin can wreak chaos on your hormones, which equals to an almost instant acne breakout! The relation between acne, insulin, and hormones is extremely important, especially in cases of adult acne!
If you have heard of this blue-greenish algae, you probably know it's considered to be a "superfood." Besides all other health benefits it offers, spirulina also contains a powerful anti-inflammatory ingredient called GLA or gamma-linolenic acid. This fatty acid can quickly subside your skin's inflammation and reduce the ugliness of your acne.
If you are not a huge lover of how spirulina tastes, you can try mixing it in your smoothies and juices. Your rich palette of fruits and vegetables will hide the taste of the spirulina powder.
13. Green Tea
Incredibly high in antioxidants, green tea is a magical drink which should be consumed every day to win your battle with acne. Not only that this tea will help you fight inflammation and reduce the redness that comes with acne, but it also contains much more antioxidants when you compare it to Vitamin C, for example.
A great habit would be to start drinking green tea with lemon in the mornings instead of your usual cup of coffee with heavy cream. These small daily habits can make a huge difference when you look back on your results and what you have achieved.
You remember all the vitamins and antioxidants that we mentioned so far? Well, avocado has all of them in one creamy and delicious green ball!
Whether it’s fiber, fatty acids, antioxidants, Vitamin C, Vitamin E…all of these are in just one avocado!
And the best part is that you can eat this as well as put it directly on your skin as one of the best DIY acne-clearing masks. Whether you choose to treat your acne topically or from the inside out, avocado is among the best foods for this purpose. Plus, you must admit, this acne weapon is pretty tasty as well!
Place half an avocado on a whole-grain toast, or make delicious guacamole and dip some vegetables in it. Trust me, your skin will thank you!
And of course, last but not least – water! Yes, pure water is the best thing you could do for your skin, your body, and your health in general.
Whenever your body is dehydrated, even when it's light dehydration that you might not feel physically, your kidneys get more toxins than they can handle and the rest will be trapped in your skin and appear as what we know as acne.
In order to flush out all of these toxins, you need to be drinking at least 2 liters of water per day. A suitable replacement to nourish and hydrate your skin could be lemon-infused water or coconut water.
Another thing you can do to hydrate your body and skin is to eat more fruits and vegetables that have a high water content. Excellent examples of such foods are watermelons, oranges, cucumbers, parsley, pineapple, etc.
Drinking more water comes with all types of benefits such as more energy, weight loss, clearer mind, a feeling of freshness, curbing hunger, etc. So, conclusion – water is your best friend in battling acne!
Even though there are no magical foods, you can eat to battle acne and get rid of them immediately, with regular consumption of the above-mentioned foods you will be able to significantly decrease and improve your condition.
With regular exercise, the right food, and regular skincare routine, everyone can beat acne. Even if your problem is hormonal, food and exercise are always the first steps to achieve hormonal balance.
Of course, if you suffer from severe acne and open and inflamed wounds, food choices will not be enough on their own, and you should visit a dermatologist.
All in all, I hope that my food suggestions will help many of you improve your acne situation and you will finally get the relief you need so much!
If you found any of my suggestions above helpful, please let me know in our comments section. Or, if you have any better suggestions, you’re welcome to share them with our community!
One of the most well-known but underrated cures for acne given to us by nature is tea tree oil!
This oil, coming from the Australian tea tree, has been proven to be just as effective as some harsher treatment options such as Benzoyl Peroxide.
The difference was that tea tree oil showed much fewer side effects and was more suitable for long-term use.
This study conducted in 1990 showed that 5% tea tree oil gel is a perfect solution for mild to moderate acne vulgaris!
Another randomized, double-blind study conducted in 2007 compared the effects between two groups; one group was given 5% tea tree oil gel while the other was given a placebo.
This study concluded that the group that used tea tree oil had significant decrease of total acne lesions count (TLC) and acne severity index (ASI) when compared to the group that was given a placebo. In regards to TLC, the tea tree oil was proven to be 3.55 times more effective than placebo. In terms of ASI, tea tree oil showed to be an amazing 5.75 times more effective than the placebo.
These two studies (as well as countless more conducted on tea tree oil in regards to acne) show us that tea tree oil is indeed an incredible natural acne-fighting agent which results with zero side effects and clear skin!
In the past, tea tree oil was used in Australia as a topical relief from bites, stings, and cuts. Then, laboratory tests showed that this oil could also be used to treat tinea, dandruff, and MRSA. And finally, studies have proven that tea tree oil can also be an effective natural cure for minor skin infections and conditions such as acne.
The antiseptic, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties of this incredible oil are the things that make it such a powerful acne-battling agent.
In the beginning, when you first decide to use tea tree oil products, first of all, make sure that it contains at least 5% tea tree oil so that it's effective. But also try not to purchase anything with a higher percentage because it might be too harsh for your skin.
Then, make sure to do a patch test – apply tea tree oil on a small area of your skin to check if you are allergic or overly sensitive to it. If you see that your skin handles tea tree oil well, feel free to apply it on your affected areas.
A word of warning: TEA TREE OIL IS ONLY FOR EXTERNAL, TOPICAL USE!
Use it regularly and religiously!
Trust me, it might take a bit longer to work, but you will see incredible results after some weeks!
2. Blue and Red LED light phototherapy
Have you noticed how your skin looks so much better after a few beach days exposed to the Sun? Your skin is darker, and your acne is magically gone!
Unfortunately, we all know that UV exposure is not healthy at all for the skin since it might cause premature skin aging, dryness, burns, and even skin cancer.
So, is it possible to take all the benefits and none of the risks? Of course! And science also agrees!
The discovery of isolated blue and red LED light therapy is one of the greatest accomplishments in skincare.
Like this, we will receive all of the same benefits without any of the risks that come with prolonged exposure to UV light.
Why should we use a combined (red and blue) light therapy?
Well, because each of these two lights has its own effect and they work best when they are used combined. Red light is able to significantly decrease acne inflammation while the special blue LED light is able to kill the bacteria that causes acne called P. acnes.
According to studies, LED phototherapy with blue and red lights is an amazingly effective solution for mild to moderate acne. Furthermore, it’s a completely safe, painless, and natural way to get rid of acne. This means that you will experience zero side effects while still achieving incredibly visible improvements! Who doesn’t want that?
One study conducted on 24 acne sufferers showed that non-inflammatory lesions were improved for 34.28% while inflammatory lesions for an astonishing 77.93%. As an additional plus, 14 of these patients also reported a brighter skin tone and an improved skin texture.
Well, I think that trying this is definitely worth it!
And finally, I would just like to give you a word of warning – light therapy will not work on blackheads or whiteheads. Its purpose is to decrease the inflammation in red and inflamed acne, in order to reduce swelling, inflammation, and redness by killing bacteria. It is not meant to suck out the blackhead/whitehead from the pore.
If you wish to try light therapy as one of the best natural cure for acne, you can choose to visit a professional salon where they will do this procedure for you or buy a home product such as Neutrogena’s Light Therapy Mask.
Prices of such products can vary greatly so do your own research so that you make an informed decision.
3. Green Tea Extract
We are all aware of the benefits to our overall health from drinking great tea daily. However, researchers tell us that green tea is also an amazing natural cure for acne when used topically.
This feature of green tea comes from its antioxidant compounds, especially from EGCG or epigallocatechin-3-gallate.
I would like to put the accent on two studies (one in-vitro and the second study in-vivo: tested on human volunteers) which both examined the benefits of topical EGCG creams or topical solutions in regards to curing acne.
In the first study, researchers found out that EGCG significantly reduced the size of sebaceous glands (the culprits of sebum production) as well as decreased inflammation. These features of EGCG are exactly what we need when we are looking for the perfect natural acne cure!
The second study (the one where they tested on human volunteers) showed even more promising results! Namely, they found out that EGCG found in green tea could reduce sebum production and decrease inflammation. The study confirmed that during a period of 8 weeks, EGCG significantly improved the acne of the human subjects.
Furthermore, it was proven that EGCG is able to target all 3 culprits of acne: sebum production, inflammation, and P. acne bacteria!
This was a randomized, double-blind study where participants were given two different lotions, one with EGCG and one without, and were told to apply one cream on one half and the second cream on the other half of their face. The results were breathtaking. The EGCG part of their face was visibly improved, and the acne was significantly reduced!
As you can see, green tea is good not just for the inside but also the outside of your body. A topical cream or lotion containing a good amount of EGCG can be just what you need in your battle with acne.
As an additional bonus, this is a completely natural cure for acne which means there will be no side effects and your skin will be able to tolerate this cure perfectly!
Now that you know the benefits of green tea for your skin, feel free to continue drinking your regular cup of green tea but also add it as a topical solution so that your skin is also able to feel the goodness!
Aside from the above-mentioned science-backed natural cures for acne, there are many more cheap and natural cures that cost nothing and can be of huge help. Some other natural cures for acne that you could try are:
Raw Organic Honey – contains antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that can fight acne and nourish your skin
Lemon juice – can alkalize your body and its acid can dry out acne and control sebum production
Apple Cider Vinegar – similar properties to lemon juice, you can dab some cotton in this vinegar and use it as a spot treatment for acne
Curcumin – the active ingredient in turmeric, curcumin, has incredible acne-fighting properties and can attack acne from multiple sides (improving insulin levels, decreasing inflammation, and killing bacteria)
Zinc – lowers inflammation and has amazing skin cell reparation properties
Witch Hazel – the anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties of witch hazel are known for reducing acne, getting rid of dandruff, eczema, insect bites, etc.
Aloe Vera – the gel of this magical plant can soothe your skin, heal acne scars, help with burns and reduce inflammation
Fish Oil – omega-3s in fish oil can feed your skin and decrease acne appearance while at the same time improve your skin health and tone
Low Glycemic Diet – a diet high in sugars and refined carbs can spike insulin levels and cause hormonal imbalances which result in acne breakouts
No Dairy – experts recommend avoiding dairy products as much as possible for people who seek acne relief
Water – perhaps one of the most important tips that anyone can ever give you not just for acne relief but for your overall health is to drink enough water and hydrate your cells
Exercise – regular exercise will help your body release toxins much faster, thus reducing the chances of acne breakouts
Decrease Stress – known as a factor for many serious diseases and conditions, stress also plays a huge part in acne formation, so try to decrease your stress levels as much as possible
As we can see, acne relief does not always require expensive creams or lotions. Sometimes, the cure is very cheap and simple, we just have to know where to look.
I hope that these 3 best science-backed natural cures for acne will help and support you in your journey toward a clearer skin! By following my tips and incorporating at least some of them into your daily skincare routine, I’m sure you will see visible improvements.
And finally, the most important this for getting rid of acne is persistence and patience! There is no magical cure that works in just some days. No matter which method you choose for getting rid of your acne, all of them need time to work. Do not give up after one week. Be patient and consistent, and you will definitely see amazing results!
Bottom line – acne is a very common which can have many different causes and underlying problems. If you see that none of these suggested methods work for you and instead of getting better your condition gets progressively worse, then you might be suffering from an underlying cause that needs additional treatments.
So, if you do not see acne relief after some weeks of using natural or over-the-counter products, visit a dermatologist before your acne condition becomes severe.
And finally, I would love to hear your own experiences and tips regarding acne, so feel free to share your own acne success stories!
The fact that you are reading this and trying to find the best non-comedogenic moisturizer shows that you have taken the right first step towards a healthier looking skin.
To swap out comedogenic skin care products from your toiletry rack, that is.
Acne is a tough beast. Isn’t it?
Your skin is an over-saturated mess of sebum, oils, dead skin and whatnot.
You are probably ripping your hair trying to figure out the products that you can safely use without triggering a breakout.
A non-comedogenic moisturizer certainly fits the bill. It ensures that your skin receives the hydration it deserves without clogging your pores.
However, the skincare industry is underscored by exaggerated marketing and sleazy sales tactics that can sway you into buying overpriced, hyped products that do little to improve the quality of your skin.
That’s where we step in.
We have been using, researching and reviewing skincare products for the past decade or so and non-comedogenic products have been at the forefront of our interests.
Today, we will try to help you understand these products better. We will sift through bro-science and help you set realistic expectations.
Even better, we will share with you, what we believe are the best non-comedogenic moisturizers in 2018.
If you've read my previous review on non-comedogenic foundations then you probably know what non-comedogenic stands for, if not, don't worry I'll go through it again.
The term ‘Non-Comedogenic’ is coined from the word ‘Comedo’ which means, a clogged skin pore, acne lesion or blockage, in general.
It is used to describe a group of products that are formulated with minimal ingredients and are less likely to clog your pores.
This subsequently helps prevent whiteheads, blackheads, pimples and dark spots from forming and acne from worsening.
If you have acne or an oversensitive skin, then these products are your best bet for your daily moisturizing routine.
Non-comedogenic products were first introduced into the market as early as 1972.
However, since the term was largely unheard of in those days, it was looked upon with a lot of skepticism.
Experts trashed it down as another voguish trend that would fade away in a bit.
But when OTC (Over-the-counter) acne medicines containing Benzoyl peroxide, Salicylic acid and Sulphur became wildly popular, it also bought with it some pretty debilitating side effects. The most notable ones were extreme dryness and skin flaking.
The results that people achieved with these anti-acne products were largely polarized due to the side effects.
On one side, controlling acne breakouts got easier. The caveat was that the person would be left with severely dry skin that could also peel in extreme cases.
That’s when non-comedogenic moisturizers took off.
And the popularity has increased tremendously in recent times.
So Why Should You Use A Non-Comedogenic Moisturizer?
And non-comedogenic moisturizers are safer and gentler.
They do not contain harsh chemicals, oils, parabens, alcohols, fragrances, thickeners, dyes and preservatives that normal skincare products contain in extremely high quantities.
Oh yes, the thick white moisturizer with the soothing aroma that you are guilty of slathering all over your face is probably teeming with things that shouldn’t be on your skin.
Get rid of it. Period.
5 Amazing Benefits Of Using Non-Comedogenic Moisturizers
There are many reasons why you should seriously consider switching to a non-comedogenic moisturizer for your skin.
Ensures that your pores remain clear: Non-comedogenic moisturizers contain very few ingredients. These may vary depending on the brand and the product, but it's mostly a combination of gentle humectants and emollients. The main ingredient though is water, and most of these have a very thin gel-like or creamy, non-greasy consistency. This ensures that your pores do not get clogged or blocked. Nor does it feel heavy on your face.
Controls excessive oil production: To compensate for a clogged pore, your body goes into overdrive and produces excessive oil. If you have acne or severely oily skin, to begin with, your face will start to resemble an oil slick after this. Not to mention that it can worsen your acne flare-ups.
Prevents acne bacteria from multiplying: While non-comedogenic moisturizers themselves do little to prevent acne, it’s their working mechanism that helps immensely. Clogged pores are a breeding ground for acne-causing bacteria. Clear pores = fewer bacteria and reduced acne breakouts.
Might prevent wrinkles: Dry skin can increase the appearance of wrinkles. But most people with acne prone skin shy away from moisturizing due to the fear of clogged pores and excessive oil. Non-comedogenic moisturizer keeps the skin hydrated and might prevent the formation of wrinkles and fine lines.
Can be used for any skin type: Due to the gentler and minimal ingredients used in these moisturizers, they can be used for any skin type. So, irrespective of whether your skin is oily, dry due to acne medications, peeling or hypersensitive, you can use a non-comedogenic moisturizer.
How To Choose The Right Moisturizer For Your Skin
As we mentioned earlier, there’s a lot of exaggerated marketing and PR at work in the entire healthcare industry.
When you are out shopping for non-comedogenic skincare products, in particular, it pays to be doubly diligent.
Know your skin
Firstly, you must know your skin type. Is it oily or combination skin? Is it severely dry? Is it hyper sensitive? Do you have any known allergies? How was your experience with moisturizers in the past? Does it break out easily? Knowing the answers to these questions will help you filter through the muck and narrow down on the most appropriate product.
Know the product
It is equally important that you know as much as there is to know about the product that you intend to buy. Is it a trusted brand? What are the ingredients in it? Are there any known comedogenic ingredients? What about parabens? Does the manufacturer respond to any pre-sale queries about the ingredients?
Moisturizers with a light texture work best for all skin types. It must not be too thick or overly watery. A creamy texture or a gel-like one that easily absorbs into the skin is most recommended. Some people prefer a mattifying moisturizer because it makes it easier to apply makeup.
Non-fragrance is the gold standard for moisturizers. Even natural fragrances and oils can be comedogenic at times.
Many experts recommend opting for SPF protection. But we don’t really consider it mandatory as long as it ticks all the other boxes that we’ve mentioned.
The Controversies Surrounding Non-Comedogenic Moisturizers
Non-comedogenic products do have their fair share of detractors who believe that the lack of regulations and testing standards makes it a very murky term, that’s often misused by unscrupulous manufacturers.
This might partly be true.
There are no regulated standards for the term ‘Non-comedogenic.'
So, that cream or lotion in a fancy looking vial with ‘non-comedogenic’ highlighted all over the label, might not really prevent your pores from getting clogged in the first place.
That’s unless you know what ingredients to watch out for on the product label.
It wouldn’t be possible to curate a list of all comedogenic ingredients for obvious reasons. But here are some of the most notorious ones.
Acetylated lanolin alcohol
D&C Red #27, 40
Lauroyl LysineLauric Acid
Evening Primrose oil
PEG 8 stearate
This is not an exhaustive list. In fact, it’s far from it.
There are many other ingredients hidden in most cosmetics and skincare products that are rated very high on the comedogenic scale. Ensure that you read the product label in detail before you swipe that card.
If you are unsure about any ingredient, reach out to the manufacturer to confirm.
Who Can Use These Moisturizers?
Well, pretty much anyone can because the ingredients are so mild that they won’t cause any adverse effects at all.
But if you are wondering whether scrutinizing the product label and paying a few extra bucks would be worth your time, then here’s a list of the scenarios and skin types that are best suited for non-comedogenic moisturizers.
Acne prone skin: If you have had acne, blackheads, whiteheads, cysts or currently have breakouts, then you must use a non-comedogenic moisturizer.
Dry skin: Dry skin caused due to any skin condition or medication must be hydrated with gentle moisturizers like these.
Combination skin: If you have combination skin, or an oily forehead clubbed with dry cheeks, then a non-acnegenic moisturizer will help you control excessive oil production while hydrating the dryer parts.
Oily Skin: A noncomedogenic hydrating lotion will ensure that your pores are not clogged, and hence the skin doesn't go on overdrive with oil production. Some of these have a slightly mattifying effect as well.
Sensitive skin: If you have a surprisingly low tolerance to fragrances and harsh chemicals, then a moisturizer like this would work for you.
