Recently, I went to my favorite makeup and beauty store here in Australia, “Myer,” where they have a gorgeous display of Revlon cosmetics. The ambience there is almost inviting. Here in Australia, there is no one breathing over your shoulder when I buy makeup, which results in me buying too much. I swatch endlessly and end up buying new launches in all shades. I bought two draping palettes from Revlon – one is a warm palette but this “Galactic Lights” palette is something unique with a purple highlight, it’s something versatile! Read on for more details on Revlon PhotoReady Draping Palette Galactic Lights.

In this post, I will be reviewing one of the body washes by St Ives that I recently had a chance to try. I really like body washes by St Ives – they are affordable and have a plethora of fragrances to choose from. They are constantly coming up with new fragrances at affordable prices. I usually don’t buy the same body wash again and keep changing them. I try different fragrances from different brands to keep adding a fun change to my shower routine. St Ives Purifying Sea Salt and Pacific Kelp Exfoliating Body Wash smells natural and fresh, and is mildly exfoliating. Like I have mentioned before, I am not a soap user, I quit being one a long time ago. I replaced the soap in my shower c

Maybelline has recently a new range of lip tints. I have hauled the entire range since the colors are really pretty. In today’s post, I am going to share my views on Maybelline Sensational Liquid Matte Lip Tint Flush It Red. Read on for more details on this lip product.

Price:
219 PHP/294.13 INR

My Experience with Maybelline Sensational Liquid Matte Lip Tint Flush It Red:

Let’s start with the packaging of the product. The lip tint comes in a sleek, transparent, cylindrical tube. It closes securely with a black colored screw on type cap. The cap has a typical doe-foot applicator attached to it. The transparent tube helps to spot the shade easily. The shade name is mentioned at the base of the tube. The tube is sleek and does not occupy much space in makeup pouch. Overall, the packaging is nice and travel friendly.

Maybelline Sensational Liquid Matte Lip Tint Flush It Red is a tomato red kind of a shade with slightly cool undertones. This color is very pretty and will flatter all skin tones. It’s a perfect party shade, just apply this red and steal the show with your glamorous look, I swear this red lipstick is that gorgeous! It instantly brightens up my complexion. It’s a nice shade to be used as a cheek tint too, but you need to be pretty quick while blending as it sets pretty quickly and then it’s difficult to blend the color.

The brand has termed these as lip tints but these are actually thin and lightweight matte liquid lipsticks. It sets to a perfect matte finish, there is no sheen or shimmer. It is transfer-proof and smudge-proof as well, also absolutely waterproof. The formula is decently pigmented. Two swipes are good enough to build up the color nicely and helps in hiding pigmented lips well. It has very faint vanilla fragrance, which is barely bothersome for anyone.

The texture of the lip tint is very lightweight and mousse-like. Hence, it glides effortlessly on the lips without any drag. The formula is extremely lightweight and feels comfortable on the lips. It does not even feel like I am wearing any lip color. It spreads easily on the lips and does not get streaky at all. Also, Maybelline Sensational Liquid Matte Lip Tint Easy Berry does not have the tendency to crumble, does not get patchy.

It does not settle into the fine lines of the lips. Being a matte lipstick, it does highlight the dry patches of the lips; so it is mandatory to properly prep the lips to achieve a smooth and luscious pout. The formula is non drying and absolutely comfortable on the lips, but if you have extremely dry lips, you might need a lip balm because the formula is non-drying but not really moisturizing.

The lasting power is amazing. It lasts easily for 6-7 hours on my lips without much fading. The color looks fresh for long. It does not smear at all and survives meals as well. It survives heavy meals as well. I don’t need much touch ups with this lip tints. It is easy to remove with a bi-phased makeup remover and does not stain the lips.

Pros of Maybelline Sensational Liquid Matte Lip Tint Flush It Red:
  • Good packaging.
  • Nice applicator.
  • Pretty shade.
  • Suitable for fair to medium skin tones.
  • Subtle shade.
  • Apt for everyday use.
  • Looks nice on the lips.
  • Matte finish.
  • Decently pigmented.
  • Covers pigmented lips well.
  • Non-drying formula.
  • Smooth texture.
  • Glides effortlessly.
  • Does not settle into the fine lines of lips.
  • Does not crumble.
  • Waterproof, smudgeproof, transferproof.
  • Lightweight.
  • Non-staining lip tint.
  • Easy to remove.
  • Long lasting.
  • Survives meals.
Cons of Maybelline Sensational Liquid Matte Lip Tint Flush It Red:
  • Absolutely none.

It is common knowledge that food cravings get increased when women on their periods and that creates the illusion that our metabolic rates must be higher than usual because we simplistically equate our cravings proportionately with increased metabolic rates. However, contrary to this popular belief, it has been substantiated through research that no such correlation exists between increased cravings for high calorific food items with increased BMR (basal metabolic rate) during menstrual cycles. As a matter of fact, it has been unearthed that our BMR drops quite significantly during periods and as such you effectively burn lesser calories during your periods than usual. So let’s discuss whether do you burn calories during periods and a bit more.

So what exactly happens during periods that we crave food so much?
Now, as we have mentioned earlier, due to fluctuating levels of hormones the month, both our menstrual cycles and metabolism keeps varying and as such, not surprisingly at all, our usual/normal rate of burn of calories is affected. And although we crave more food during our periods, it is without a shade of doubt that our metabolism hasn’t increased as significantly so as to burn off the excess carbs that we indulge in during those days of the month. As a matter of fact, experts have opined that it is not during our periods, but in the week that leads up to it, there is an increase, albeit slight, in our metabolism that would explain the biological aspects of the sudden hunger pangs and cravings that we experience during that phase.

So what would explain this ubiquitous phenomenon of increased cravings?
Now detailed studies and in depth analysis of data thus obtained from experiments and observations have provided us the necessary insight to categorically state that almost two weeks prior to our periods, due to the rise and fall of progesterone and estrogen hormones in cycles – affecting practically every imaginable aspect of the female biology – our metabolic rates function at its peak. Yes, not during our periods but 2 weeks prior to it.

So what should be done under the circumstances?
It has been suggested and also prescribed by most medical practitioners that one should not over-exercise in the weeks leading up to your monthly menstrual cycles. Moderation is to be respected at this stage. Intake of certain dietary supplements such as calcium or omega-3 is medically endorsed so as to tackle fluctuations in energy levels, changes in appetite to tackle mood swings that accompanies PMS.

Staying properly hydrated is also a must. Attention must be taken to properly and thoroughly remain hydrated at all times. One should also ensure that one puts in optimum hours of sleep while having periods, these factors should not be compromised upon.

More importantly, since it has become abundantly clear that the slight increase in your metabolic rates in the days leading up to your periods is hardly significant enough to burn extra calories, one should practice moderation in the intake of food and tackling hunger pangs instead of surrendering to your cravings and urges. Eat frequent meals, but in small quantities to tackle the issue of possible weight gain and avoid consuming sugar in excess quantities than is usual. If one bears all that has been discussed so far, one is pretty safe from gaining unwanted weight during their periods.

So to sum it up, you actually do not burn extra calories during your periods, your sudden cravings for more quantities of food is not a reflection of higher metabolic rates, it is a reflection of the fact that your body is going through a series of highly complicated yet the most natural, biologically elegant and beautiful hormonal changes.

So, dear beloved readers, please leave your thoughts in the comment section below.
And as always, stay healthy and beautiful.

There’s another review on a mild version of Essence Nail Polish Remover here. Essence Strong and Clean Extra Power Nail Polish Remover is for glitter polishes which we all know are hard to get off the nails; I absolutely hate taking off glitter nail polishes.

This review will be on VLCC Specifix Sandal Hydrating Body Mask. Read on to find out my views on this body mask.

Product Description:
Sandal Hydrating Body Mask enriched with Aloe Vera, Vitamin E, Allantoin & Triclosan, purifies and cleanses the skin, removes deeply seated dirt and impurities. Its unique formulation revitalizes, hydrates and makes skin soft and smooth.
Price:
INR 475 for 200 gm.

Skin Type:
Dry and occasionally acne-prone.
Ingredients:
Aloe Vera, Vitamin E, Allantoin and Triclosan.

My Experience with VLCC Specifix Sandal Hydrating Body Mask:

This hydrating body mask comes packed in a simple white plastic tub with a wide band of sea green on the packaging. It closes with a screw type closure lid. The packaging looks very simple and just like other products from Specifix. You have to dig out the from the tub which is not very good if you consider the hygienic factor. You have to clean and dry your fingers every time to avoid contamination of the product. All the product details are mentioned on the body of the tub itself. The packaging is very sturdy.

VLCC Specifix Sandal Hydrating Body Mask has a very thick creamy consistency. It comes in a pure white cream form and doesn’t have any exfoliating particles. It spreads on the skin evenly and is suitable for all skin types. The usage is pretty easy. You need to apply the mask on your body. I usually don’t have much time to use it on weekdays because after application, I keep this for a while, so I usually use it on weekends. I take about generous amount of product and massage it in circular motion after leaving it for 10-20 minutes.

This mask removes every bit of dirt and grime from the skin and purifies it effectively. It works very nicely on dull and dehydrated skin and removes dullness. Since one of the chief ingredients of this mask is sandal, it helps to reveal clear and bright skin. It also contains aloevera and Vitamin E which helps to reveal soft, smooth and supple skin and feels nice to touch. The mask is also very easy to remove and does not leave any residue behind. It also adds radiance to the skin, but this radiance is short lived and disappears soon. It doesn’t give any luminous glow to the skin but my hands and feet looked very clean and smooth. This product also hydrates the skin well and I did not feel the need of a moisturiser for summers. I can’t comment on whether it will fare well on the hydration clause during winters.

It has also suited my skin well and has not caused any irritation. In a nutshell, it fares well as a body polisher.

Overall, this is a nice product that helps to give a quick fix to your hands and feet. I like the concept of a body mask as you can burn pockets getting body treatments done at a salon. I am really happy with the results.

Pros of VLCC Specifix Sandal Hydrating Body Mask:
  • Simple, tub-like packaging.
  • Made from extracts of sandalwood, aloe vera and vitamin E.
  • Thick, cream consistency.
  • Easy and gentle on skin.
  • Leaves skin soft, supple and smooth.
  • Great for all skin types.
  • Does not leave any dry feeling post usage.
  • Erases dullness
  • Doesn’t rip natural oils from the skin.
  • Gives a healthy glow to the skin.
Cons of VLCC Specifix Sandal Hydrating Body Mask:
  • Tub packaging.
  • Results do not last long.

Would I Recommend/Repurchase VLCC Specifix Sandal Hydrating Body Mask?
Yes.
IMBB Rating:
4/5

Essence has come up with gym-proof stuff like mascara and primer in its range. Essence You Better Work Gym Proof Waterproof Fixing Powder seemed like a versatile product that could be used to fix makeup, touch-ups, and for mattifying skin. I could also use it to blot and mattify lipstick.
