Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is notorious for causing shortness of breath and discomfort and for ultimately leading to respiratory failure. Patients who have been diagnosed with COPD may feel hopeless, but for patients like Vaneta H., COPD treatment restores hope.
When Vaneta was diagnosed with COPD, she was told that her only real option was to go home and wait to die. Disheartened, this is what Vaneta did. Her COPD progressed to the point where she could no longer walk without losing breath and had to use a wheelchair to get around. Eventually, she found her self confined to her bed more days than not.
Vaneta couldn’t walk around her own home without losing breath. Her skin turned pale and she couldn’t leave the home. She felt like she was at death’s door and her family wasn’t sure how much longer she could survive.
Vaneta visited the Lung Health Institute in 2017 after spending a long time researching cellular treatment. This turned out to be a great decision.
These days, Vaneta can get out of the house to complete daily tasks like grocery shopping again. She used to wear supplemental oxygen all day and night, but now she only uses it for part of the day. In fact, one day she was grocery shopping with her grandson when someone pointed out that her oxygen tank was empty. Vaneta was breathing so well that she didn’t even notice.
“I used to panic if the electricity went out, like, ‘We need to go to a hotel now!’ ” she recalls. “Whereas now, if I don’t have oxygen for a while, I don’t feel like I’m going to die.”
She also has color back in her face. She has been able to cut back on COPD medication and doesn’t have to use her emergency inhaler anymore.
