Key West Pink Shrimp are a favorite among seafood lovers who crave these wild-caught delights year-round. Most known for their mild, sweet flavor, Key West Pink Shrimp can be used as scampi, in peel and eat cocktails, or incorporated into any recipe.

The shrimp’s distinct pink hue and sweet taste are derived from the clean coral sand of the west coast of Florida where it lives. This variety of crustacean is also distinguished by the characteristic red dot that appears on its shell. While most abundant during winter months, Key West Pink Shrimp are caught fresh throughout the year.

To make it even more tempting for you to explore all the culinary possibilities with this tasty sea creature, we’re sharing our Sweet and Spicy Grilled Key West Shrimp recipe. It’s the perfect complement to a day out on the beach or an intimate outdoor evening on the back patio.

This recipe is perfect with corn on the cob, fire-roasted veggies, fresh fruit, or a mix of leafy greens. You really can’t go wrong adding anything to this dish.

Okay, let’s fire up the grill!

  • 6 bamboo skewers soaked in filtered or distilled water for 20 minutes
  • 1/2 cup of garlic-chile sauce
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 pound of medium peeled and deveined Key West Pink Shrimp

  1. Lightly oil your grill’s grate and preheat at medium heat
  2. Stir the honey and garlic-chile sauce together in a small bowl
  3. Place the Key West Pink Shrimp onto your soaked bamboo skewers. Be sure to pierce the shrimp fully through the head and tail.
  4. Cook the skewers on your preheated grill for approximately 10 minutes. While cooking, be sure to turn the shrimp often and baste them with sauce until the shrimp are pink and firm on every side.

Pro Tip

Use a two-zone set up for your grill with the heat on one side and a pan of water on the other to keep the shrimp moist and avoid overcooking.

As if you needed another excuse to buy fresh fish online, we’re sharing our favorite recipe for Key West-style fish and chips. But before we get into the specifics, let’s look at a little background on this fan-favorite dish.

This traditional seafood meal evolved in the 17th century out of Belgium or France, whichever story you want to believe when the first “chip” was created. It’s believed that frozen rivers led to housewives cutting potatoes into the shape of fish and frying them, which means chips weren’t designed as a complementary item to fish, but rather as a substitution.

Regardless of the truth behind its history, it’s a dish that made its way to America decades ago and continues to be a favorite seafood meal.

Now, go buy fresh fish online and make this recipe at home this week:

Fish and Chips, Key-West Style

Let’s get some ingredients:

  • 4 Grouper filets (makes 2-4 servings)
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 TBSP seasoned salt
  • 2 cups breadcrumbs (Italian style or other of your choosing)
  • 2 eggs
  • oil for deep frying
  • Lime wedges
  • French fries of your choosing

Now for the cooking:

  1. Cut grouper filets into strips or bite-sized pieces, your call.
  2. Roll each filet in seasoned salt, then coat in flour.
  3. Dip each filet in egg, letting excess drip off.
  4. Coat each filet in breadcrumbs, then set aside.
  5. Fill a frying pan with about two inches of oil and heat over medium-high.
  6. Add each piece of fish to the frying pan, careful to avoid oil splatters.
  7. Cook fish for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown.
  8. Add a squirt of Key lime juice to each filet for an authentic Key West flavor.
  9. Serve with French fried “chips” and dipping sauce of your choice.
