Desiring God means we want to experience the fullness of God in all his glory, might and power. It boils down to the desire for a true, genuine relationship with God. We have counted the cost to following him, realizing that we may lose all. However, there is still a cry in our Spirit that cries out just as it did with Paul when he said “That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; Philippians 3:10. Nothing can quench this thirst for knowing more of God. Nothing else can even compare to it. Desiring God-Increasing In The Knowledge of God’s Word Desiring God will cause us to want to know more about him. As we read God’s word the Holy Spirit will begin to give us revelation. He will show us clearly who God is, what God will do and what God is requiring of his people. He will begin to show us the characteristics of God and the authority and power that belongs to him. Our confidence in God will grow. We will find the boldness we need to speak up for Christ because we know who he is. The Wisdom, knowledge, and understanding that we need, all comes from God and the more time we spend in the word the stronger our desire to live Holy becomes because we will desire to be like him. Increasing in knowledge is one of the first things that fuel our Spiritual growth in Christ and cause us to desire God even more. Desiring God-Obeying God’s Word After we have come to the knowledge of truth to who God is and what God will do, our next step to fuel our spiritual growth is to obey God’s word. If we are truly desiring God it can only be because we love him. And, if we love him we will keep his word. John 14:15 says “If you love me, keep my commands. Throughout the bible we find scriptures where we find the word telling us to obey God. 2 John 1:6 “And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands.” Luke 11:28 He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.” 1 Peter 1:14 “As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.” If we truly want to fuel our Spiritual life then we will be obedient to the word of God. Desiring God-Patience and Trust Desiring God will cause us to be patient and to trust God in difficult and challenging times. Why? Because we have full confidence in God’s ability and his willingness to perform his word in the lives of his people. We know that God said he will supply all of our needs Philippians 4:19. We know that God said He will never leave us nor forsake us Deuteronomy 31:6. In Jeremiah 33:3 we know that God said when we call upon him that he would answer us and show us things that we did not know. We know that God’s word is true, so the last step that we must do to fuel our spiritual growth is to practice being patient and trusting God even when we do not feel his presence or see immediate change taking place. Conclusion Spiritual growth comes from Desiring more of God and Desiring more of God causes increase spiritual growth. When we put knowledge, obedience, patience, and trust to work in our lives we will experience growth not only in our spiritual lives but in every area of our lives. This is because God is a God who blesses his people when they put him first, Matthew 6:33. It is God’s will that we seek him. It is his will that we desire more of him, a stronger relationship with him. And, the word of God lets us know that when we do seek him we will find him. Let nothing stop you from desiring God. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:13 Share Me On Pinterest! Lately, it seems that praying has been difficult for me. Although I prayed, I felt discouraged when I did. I felt like my prayers were just words that didn’t even make it past the ceiling of my room. I was feeling spiritually weak and sometimes wondered “What was the use?” This morning as I was laying in bed feeling half sleep and half woke I found myself praying to God concerning my blog. I was asking God to anoint me to write for him. I was asking him to help me to yield to his Holy Spirit so that he would place within me the words to write. However, the more I woke up, the more discouraging thoughts started to come to my mind. “This blog will never grow” “I don’t have time to learn all of this stuff about blogging.” “Why is God blessing other bloggers and not blessing me.” These negative thoughts were starting to drown out the prayer that was at first coming from deep within me. Then the killer thought “WHAT’S THE USE” came and I stopped praying. As I laid in bed, in my spirit, I so clearly heard the words “EVERY PRAYER IS A SEED” God was letting me know that the effectual fervent prayer is just like a seed that is planted in heavenly soil. Our faith in God is like the water, fertilizer and the sun (The POWER) working together, which causes the dormant spiritual seed to germinate (develop, take root, grow, spring up, arise, emerge, evolve, mature, enlarge) and break through the earthly sphere into its manifested state. Sign up to download your FREE10 Scripture Cards That Brings Comfort! Just like the person who plant physical seeds into the ground have to wait for the life cycle of the seed to take place before manifestation, we too have to wait on the life cycle of the spiritual seed to take place. As long as we are giving our spiritual seed what it needs, which is our patience and faith in the power of God to do his work in it, the seed (our Prayers) will manifest itself in due time. I don’t know much about farming but I do know that they do work long and hard. Even when things look discouraging they continue doing what they need to do to bring forth the harvest they are desiring. This is what God was showing me. He was letting me know that I can’t just pray and when I don’t see what I want to see, get discouraged. I have to keep praying, believing and standing on God’s word. It is God who will do the final work and he will do it in his perfect timing. But it is my responsibility to stand in faith even when I don’t see the manifestation. It’s my responsibility to cast down doubt, fear, and all negative thoughts When seeds are planted in the ground we do not see the works that are going on inside the seeds but we know that something is taking place. We have to have this confidence in God. We may not see it but we have to know that there is something taking place in the spiritual realm concerning our prayer and in due time we will see the work of God bringing the answer to our prayer into perfection. Spiritual High Going to worship nights or Christian conferences are awesome! You leave feeling so connected and in tune with God. Often times this is known as a spiritual high. It’s called a high for a couple of reasons: 1) because you’re on top of a mountain in your spiritual walk, and 2) you can feel the presence of the Lord surrounding you. So, what happens when we come off that spiritual high? What happens if we are feeling spiritually weak? What happens when we fall off the high mountain top into the valley of weakness? Paul wrote two letters to the church in Thessalonica – called 1 Thessalonians and 2 Thessalonians. The church of Thessalonica was known, during the time the letter was written, for their persistent persecution. If you’ve ever been persecuted for your faith, you know it can either strengthen your faith causing you to feel like you’re on the mountain top, or weaken your faith causing you to feel like you are in the valley. Paul wrote to encourage the Thessalonians to be steadfast in their faith – urging them to not fall into the valley. In the final instructions of Paul’s first letter, he writes: “Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” (1 Thess. 5:16-18). What to Do When You Feel Weak In Your Faith Paul reminds us that when we feel weakened or attacked in our faith, we need to go back to the basics: prayer, thanks and joy. I like to think that the three relate and build off one another. If you’re feeling spiritually weak, first start with prayer. Prayer helps train our minds to take our spiritual battles to God – asking him to fight on our behalf. Often times, praying can begin to help us refocus that our fight is not again flesh and blood, but against spiritual forces. Next, give thanks. This one can be difficult to do right from the start, but as we continue to pray, we will begin to become more grateful. We will see how God is answering those prayers and fighting our battles for us. Finally, be joyful. Being joyful while being in the valley can be hard, but it often follows being prayerful and thankful. If we are steadfast in prayer and thanksgiving, then we will begin to focus on God instead of the current problem at hand; thus, allowing room for joy. Ask yourself: am I in the valley? If I am spiritually weak, how am I reacting to that feeling? Remember God Next time you’re feeling spiritually weak, remember to seek God in prayer, give thanksgiving for the things God has done and for the things you are believing him to do and rejoice in God’s faithfulness. Prayer for guidance is what we pray when we need God to help us in making the right decisions. Every day we need his guidance. Only God knows the ways that we should take. A way may seem right but it does not mean that it is the way God would have us to take. As we release our prayer for guidance to God and seek his face, by his Holy Spirit he will lead and guide us and take us down paths that we never knew or thought of. Prayer for Guidance-When You Don’t Know What to Do. Heavenly Father right now I feel like I don’t know what to do. But I do believe that your Spirit will lead me and guide me. I believe that in my spirit I will hear your voice say “this is the way; walk in it”. I know I am never lost, for you, are always with me. I am never alone because you are by my side. Wisdom and knowledge belong to you and you will show me what to do as I release this prayer for guidance to you in faith. I am not afraid because you are my teacher. Your Spirit will help me, lead me and guide me and your Holy Spirit will show me the way. Because of this I worship you and praise your Holy name. In Jesus name, I pray, Amen. Prayer for Guidance-Before Making a Final Decision. Heavenly Father, I do not want to make a step without your Holy Spirit leading me and guiding me. Before I make a move, I release this prayer of guidance asking you to show me the way. Nothing is hidden from you. You God, you even see that which is in the dark. So, I call upon you asking you to guide me in my decision making. Show me the steps to make and the path to take. Help me not to let my flesh cause me to make wrong decisions. Help me not to let anxiousness cause me to move too quickly. I call upon you God because I need you now. Your face I do seek. Your wisdom and knowledge I yearn for. My soul will wait upon you until your will for me is clear. In Jesus name, I pray, Amen. Prayer for Guidance-When It Seems Like God is Silent Heavenly Father, even when I don’t feel your presence I will wait on you to lead and guide me. I know you are faithful and that you have not forgotten me. Only you know what it is that I should do. It’s you who hold the plans for my life. Although you may seem quiet I know that you are working all things out for my good. I will trust you God and continuously wait upon you. I will seek your face all day long, until you answer me. By your Spirit, you lead me and teach me. By your Holy Spirit, you empower me to do your will. I can do all things through Jesus Christ who strengthens me. So although I may not feel your presence and although it may feel that you are not near I will not trust my feelings but rather I will stand on your word. Your word is true and even in the quietness, I know that you are still leading me. For this I love you and thank you. In Jesus name, amen. Tired of Waiting on God When you have truly come to the place where you feel tired of waiting on God, hearing words like “Your time is going to come” or “look at Job, he had to wait too” does little to no help at all. You don’t quite want to hear how someone else waited for 20, 30 or 40 years before their blessing came when your heart is hurting. Especially when you need God to move now and it seems like he is doing nothing. It’s not that you are trying to rush him, it’s just that the wait and the agony inside of you feels unbearable as if it’s burying you. You get tired of crying, you get tired of thinking, you get tired of praying and you get tired of waiting on God. So what do you do? Hope in God In your heart, you don’t really want to leave God. You don’t really want to stop serving him but finding the strength to keep believing and to keep holding on and to keep fighting, is like a battle inside of you that you feel you are losing. I believe this is how the psalmist felt In the book of Psalm 43:1 when he cried out: God, where are You when the wicked surround me? Where are you God when everything is going wrong? Where were you God when I cried out to you? Where were you God when I needed you? God Where Were You? The psalmist did not know how or when God would deliver him. He felt like God was not there. His soul was cast down. He was depressed. He was hurt. He was tired. But in spite of all of this he said I will still hope in God. Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God. Jerimiah 43:5 (Read the entire chapter to get the full feel of his cry to God) He had to speak to his soul. He had to encourage himself. Remember Who God is During the wait, you have to remember who God is. The bible says; It is he who made the earth by his power, who established the world by his wisdom, and by his understanding stretched out the heavens. Jeremiah 10:12 Deuteronomy 7:9 says: Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations, Remember God’s Promises Isaiah 41:10 says: Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Hebrews 13:5 says “I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you.” Psalm 34:15 says: The eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous, and His ears are open to their cry Jeremiah 29:11 says: For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. You may also want to read: Who Can Stand Against The Lord Our God When Waiting Hurts I know when you have been waiting, especially when you have been waiting and hoping for a long time that it can become discouraging. But the Bible teaches us that waiting on God is part of the process. However, We have to know in our heart that “God Will Not Fail Me”. We have to be like King David and say; Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Even though we are weak, weary and tired we have to speak God’s word over our lives and over the situations, we may be facing. And if you say, Denise I have been doing this and still no change has come. I know it feels like a heavy burden but you have to know and believe that God is carrying you through. You may not see the change in the physical, but a change in the spiritual is taking place and in due time it will manifest itself if you don’t give up. God will not ever abandon you. You may also want to read: What Can Separate Us From God? What you are feeling is just that, it’s only a feeling and it is not truth. The truth is God is going to bring you out. He is going to deliver you. He is going to make away for you. God is going to help you. God is faithful to his word and he is faithful to his promises. He is not a man that will lie. He is God and he is going to help you. It takes faith to keep believing God when you don’t see any change coming. it takes faith to keep standing on his word when you don’t even feel his presence. It takes faith to keep holding on to him and trusting him when the desire that you yearn so deeply for has not been fulfilled. But through this God is building and strengthening your faith. And if you wait on the promises of God every one of them will be fulfilled in your life. God is going to show himself strong on your behalf if you will do not quit. The Bible says to wait patiently on the Lord. This is what God requires of you, to continue to wait patiently on him. Hope in God no matter how things may look or feel-He will not fail you! Love is patient, Love is kind – Bible Verse 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails…1 Corinthians 13:4-8 Man’s Definition of Love It seems that for many people the definition of love is what they feel in their heart towards a person. If the feeling is there, they will say nice things to the person. If the feeling is there is they will go out of their way to help the person. If the feeling is there, through thick and thin they will stand by that person. The problem with this is that once the feeling is gone they equate that with the love also being gone and will have little or nothing to do with that same person. I believe this is one of the reason why God included in his word the meaning of true love. You may also want to read: Lord, I will keep my eyes on you. Love Is Patient Meaning we do not easily give up, become annoyed, irritated, complain or lose our temper when confronted with unwanted behaviors from another individual. We may feel these feelings but we do not act upon them. We do not let them control us or cause us to act in opposition to Gods word towards the person. When we are loving in accordance with God’s definition, we treat the person right even when they are treating us wrong. Is that not what Jesus did for us? Now, this does not mean that if you are in an abusive relationship you have to stay there and continue to be emotionally or physically abused. However, while you are somewhere in a safe place pray for God to open the abuser’s eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in God (Acts 26:18). If you are going through some difficult times and feel like it’s never going to get better you may want to read: The Trying of Your Faith True Love It seems that we forget how Jesus did not give up on us when we did not keep his word. When we did not spend time with him the way we should have, he kept right on loving us. When we failed, he did not turn his back on us. The numerous times that we messed up, He STILL kept on loving us and showing us mercy. Yet for some of us, if we are even looked at wrong or we think someone is talking about us, that’s it…the love is gone for that person. The Bible says love is patient. In other words, continue to do right by that person AS IF they had never done you wrong. This is what Jesus did for us. This is true love. However, God Wants you to call upon him. He wants you to cry out to him. He wants you to confess to him all of your hurt, anger and pain that you may be feeling towards the person. By his Spirit, he will help you and heal you from the wrong that was done to you. God does not counts it as nothing, when someone has done you wrong but he does want you to continue to persevere in love during those difficult and unloving times and he wants you to trust him that he is working everything out. Don’t brush his commandment off saying “Well, God understands” or “He knows my heart”. This excuse does not justify your actions if you are not walking in love towards that person. Love Is Patient! Love is patient! It’s almost as if God is yelling this at us because he wants us to really hear his word. He does not want us to turn on each other or to walk away from one another. He wants us to believe the best for each other. To hope for the best for one another. If you can be there to help that person out then do so. Within, you may not have the best feelings towards the person, but if you are a child of God, do not let your feelings control you. Let your actions be ruled by the word and commandments of God, not your flesh or feelings Lets remember God’s word in 1 Corinthians 13:8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. You may also want to read: Lord, What Should I do?
