Teton is the ultimate treat snob. Perhaps I should say instead that he has a refined palate.

You’d think with all the snow we’ve had in the Seattle area and the extra energy he exerted playing in it he would want ALL THE TREATS, but that hasn’t been the case.

(Energy being exerted.)

(Contemplating treat snob tendencies.)

The treat snob himself got a drool-worthy treat from Chewy.com this month – Ziwi Peak’s Deer Shank Bone Dog Chew.

This chew, made of venison shank bone and beef esophagus, comes in either a full or half bone. We opted for the full bone because Teton is 40 pounds and your average medium-sized dog so I prefer giving him larger chews to eliminate some of the choking concern. (Of course, dogs can choke on bones of any size so you should always watch them regardless of their size and the size of the chew.)

Ziwi Peak’s Deer Shank Bone Dog Chew is made in New Zealand from free-range, grass-fed sources. It’s full of nutrients from the bone marrow, itself, and assists with dental hygiene since it’s a heartier chew.

Teton was 0% interested in this chew, so we hope his buddy Copper will enjoy it.

(Not interested, Ma!)

I think Teton is the exception to the rule on this one and that Ziwi Peak’s Deer Shank Bone Dog Chew will be a big hit with 99% of the other dogs out there. If your dog loves a good chew and you’re looking for a safer alternative to rawhide or want to mix things up with a new flavor, give this a go!

What’s your dog’s favorite chew? We’re always looking for new treats so if you have any great ones, send them our way!

Happy tails…

First of all, how great of a brand name is Bones & Chews?

I haven’t met a dog yet (Teton included) that doesn’t L-O-V-E freeze-dried treats. They are extra smelly, soft yet slightly crunchy, and easy to digest.

Bones & Chews All-Natural Beef Recipe Freeze-Dried Dog Treats check all these boxes and boast a limited ingredient list, which is a bonus.

Inside each of these delictable bite-sized nuggets is beef, beef liver, beef tripe, a preservative, and some natural flavors. And that’s it!

While I love giving Teton one or two of these treats by themselves, my favorite way to give them to him is crumbled over his dry dog food.

If you have a dog like Teton, every now and again he isn’t interested in eating. Normally this doesn’t bother me (he has plenty of food options – trust me on that) unless, of course, he also isn’t drinking. Sometimes, though, we’ll head out for a hike or a super long walk and I want to be sure he has some energy. These Bones & Chews freeze-dried treats are perfect for enticing him!

Teton and his tuxedo shirt pal/cousin, Basil.

I like this particular variety of freeze-dried treats a lot because they’re perfectly sized for a medium dog like Teton but they crumble with just a bit of pressure if I want them to.

Bones & Chews has two varieties of their freeze-dried treats on Chewy.com now – beef, which is what we tried, and chicken. Give them a go if you need something new for your pupper, especially if they’ve never had a freeze-dried treat!

Happy tails…and Happy New Year!

Lately, we’ve been doing a lot of the following:

Pumpin’ iron…

Walkin’ (rain or shine)…

And gettin’ our snug on.

It’s been great.

Teton’s treat of choice lately is made of your favorite thing and mine, B A C O N.

Pet Naturals of Vermont Crispy Bacon Superfood Dog Treats

These new-to-us treats from Chewy.com smell (and, I imagine, taste) like bacon and are made of up of oats, kale, flaxseed, pumpkin, and a bunch of other great ingredients.

Made in the United States, these treats are on the small side which means the 8.5 oz bag has a whopping 120 treats inside!

At first glance they look to be a softer treat, but while they aren’t hard like a biscuit, I definitely don’t think they are moist. Teton has no issue eating them but if you need a super soft treat for your pup, this might not be the very best option.

Pet Naturals Superfood Treats come in three flavors – Peanut Butter, Crispy Bacon, and Homestyle Chicken. With flavors like that, I don’t think you can go wrong in picking one out!

These treats are a great option for any sized dog and would make an excellent training treat if you’re on the lookout for that!

Now, we’ve tackled the walk portion of our day so it’s time for the snugs!

Happy tails…

Hello, Dog Moms and Dog Dads.

Tonight’s treat is the smelliest I’ve ever encountered.

Naturally, Teton loves them.

These are The Honest Kitchen’s Wishes Fish Filets and wowee they’ll clear the room.

Made from one simple ingredient – dehydrated white fish (which, what does that even mean?) – these crunchy strips make for a delicious snack for dogs and cats.

The Honest Kitchen’s Wishes Fish Filets are pretty large but, if you’re brave enough, you can snap them into smaller pieces depending on the size of your pet!

If you are a brave soul, I recommend washing your hands about 16 times after holding one of these.

Your dog will love you for it.

Smell aside, The Honest Kitchen’s Wishes Fish Filets are a great option for dogs that love fish and gravitate toward dehydrated treats.

Happy tails!

HUMP DAY!

Today’s treat is once again brought to you by Chewy.com and may make you squeamish.

Yep, here’s another doozy.

Dr. Tim’s Natural Oxtail Chips Genuine Freeze-Dried Dog & Cat Treats

Oxtail is literally the tail of a cow, so…here we are.

I’d never seen oxtail treats before so I didn’t know what to expect, but Teton was extremely curious when I opened the bag.

Dr. Tim’s Oxtail Chips are, like their tripe counterparts, made in the U.S.A. with 100% beef oxtail from Wisconsin cows.

Also like the tripe, the oxtail comes in a variety of sizes. We found that most were quite large and not easily broken.

However, some were on the smaller size and likely better for small to medium sized dogs. (I can’t imagine a cat eating these…)

I offered a smaller oxtail chip to Teton’s cousin, Henley Pretzel…

…who was unable to eat it because it was quite hard.

Now, Dr. Tim’s packaging says you can soak these oxtail chips in water to make them more tender. We didn’t try that but it’s good to know for those of you with dogs that have sensitive teeth and gums or smaller dogs that have a hard time with hard treats like Henley.

While the idea with oxtail is that the cartilage helps to clean your dog’s teeth, these treats were too hard for both Henley and Teton. I let Teton work on one for a while but the crunching sound it made didn’t sit well with me (helicopter mom) so I made the decision to take it away.

Dr. Tim’s Natural Oxtail Chips aren’t for us but I do think they’d be just fine for large dogs and those that are aggressive chewers. The oral health benefits are outstanding and based on Teton’s interest in the treats, I imagine most dogs will jump at the chance to give them a try!

Happy tails!

Hello, friends!

Teton and I hope you have had a wonderful weekend and that you squeeze every last drop of that wonderfulness out before tomorrow comes.

This morning, we met a great friend and her dog and walked a local trail, then had a tasty coffee and breakfast together. Friends and dogs and coffee. The little things truly are the big things, aren’t they?

Speaking of big things, I’m really, really excited to tell you about this F U N new product from Chewy.com…

Meet the Goody Box Grain-Free Box for Dogs!

Goody Boxes are specially curated boxes for Chewy.com for either dogs or cats. They come in eight varieties – four for dogs and four for cats.

I’ve always been intrigued by the monthly subscription boxes out there but these are far more appealing to me because you don’t have to many any sort of commitment when you order them. Each box costs $19.95, ships for free, and is filled with tons of goodies!

When I say tons of goodies, I really mean tons of goodies.

The booklet inside each box has information on what’s inside…

I was pretty surprised to see how full the box was!

Here’s what was inside our Goody Box Grain-Free Box:

A package of Solid Gold Superfoods Turkey, Sweet Potato & Cinnamon Grain-Free Chewy Dog Treats

…something from one of our new favorite brandsNulo Freestyle Grain-Free Duck Recipe Dog Training Treats

Merrick Power Bites Real Texas Beef Recipe Grain-Free Soft & Chewy Dog Treats, which we already know we love

…something new and exciting from K9 Natural – Meat Mates Beef Meal Mixer Freeze-Dried Grain-Free Dog Food Topper

…yep, there’s more – Natural Balance L.I.D. Limited Ingredients Diets White Fish & Sweet Potato Formula Flaked Grain-Free Wet Dog Food

…and last, but certainly not least, this tiny adorable Hartz Bug Eyes Dog Toy.

This box is legit. And all the Goody Boxes look legit!

There’s one for small dogs called the Tiny But Mighty, a Made in the USA box which has products entirely from the USA (whereas the Natural Balance food, for example, is made in Thailand), a Happy Birthday box (I die), and of course, the Grain-Free box.

I love the idea of gifting this box to a friend’s dog for their birthday or to a new dog or cat owner who has adopted from a local shelter or rescue. What a fun gift both to give and receive! It could be especially fun for new pet owners to help them figure out some brands their dog or cat may like.

Big thanks to Chewy.com for hooking us up with the Goody Box Grain-Free box this month.

Teton had a few of the Nulo treats after his long walk today and we’re excited to give the K9 Natural Meat Mates topper a try. We’ll keep you posted on how it is!

Happy tails…
