Shut Your Mouth and Listen! “Even fools are thought wise when they keep silent; with their mouths shut, they seem intelligent.” -Proverbs‬ ‭17:28‬ ‭NLT‬‬ This is probably one of the funniest verses to read in the Bible. Yet it holds a valuable truth. I know it works for me. I’ve been in conversations with people …

Laughter is the Good medicine “A merry heart does good, like medicine, But a broken spirit dries the bones.”-Proverbs‬ ‭17:22‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ They say laughter is a good medicine. It’s confirmed in the verse above. A lot of times we take this life too seriously. I am at fault of this on occasion. I get caught …

Monday after a nice day off It’s Monday after a nice, relaxed Sunday. I didn’t want to wake up today, but duty calls. The initial hit of reality after having two consecutive days off is rough. Yet it’s not the end of the world. After the alarm goes off and I get my wits about …

God says you should enjoy what you have, not cry about what you don’t          Wanting What We Can’t Have

God says you should enjoy what you have, not cry about what you don’t. For most, we get so focused on the things we can’t do or have that we forget all of the other things we can.

My 2 year old has way too many toys. Maybe it’s the overload of options but he always seems to steer clear of the toys he has to go after something that is not his. Whether it’s his brother’s toys, a kitchen utensil or anything else that he doesn’t own. As soon as I take it away he acts like it’s the end of the world. You can see what else he cries for in my other post Freedom and Consequences. He can be nuts.

Trying not to Laugh

I probably shouldn’t laugh, but he can get pretty ridiculous. He will throw himself on the floor, run into a wall or, the weirdest one yet, take his diaper off and flail around naked. Why it makes sense to him that that would be the appropriate response to not getting what he wants is beyond me.

I can’t help but think about how silly he looks when in that mode. It also makes me wonder how I look to God when I don’t get what I want. I get all bent out of shape and do things I wouldn’t normally do as well. I throw what I call a “Grownup” tantrum. It usually involves grumbling to myself and talking about how stupid things are. Random things too like “why is my dog is so short” or “why can’t Taco Bell deliver?”.

I’m sure God is looking at me shaking His head, trying not to laugh quite often. He has us where we are for a reason. Most of the time I’m not sure why He has me where I am but I know it’s for the best. I’m in good company in thinking so too.

Good Company

The author of Psalms chapter 13 wrote this:
“O Lord, how long will you forget me? Forever? How long will you look the other way? How long must I struggle with anguish in my soul, with sorrow in my heart every day? How long will my enemy have the upper hand? Turn and answer me, O Lord my God! Restore the sparkle to my eyes, or I will die. Don’t let my enemies gloat, saying, “We have defeated him!” Don’t let them rejoice at my downfall. But I trust in your unfailing love. I will rejoice because you have rescued me. I will sing to the Lord because he is good to me.”

King Solomon tells us:
“So I decided there is nothing better than to enjoy food and drink and to find satisfaction in work. Then I realized that these pleasures are from the hand of God. For who can eat or enjoy anything apart from him? God gives wisdom, knowledge, and joy to those who please him. But if a sinner becomes wealthy, God takes the wealth away and gives it to those who please him. This, too, is meaningless—like chasing the wind.”
-Ecclesiastes‬ ‭2:24-26‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Quite a few people I talk to about the Bible think it’s just a rule book. In reality, it’s the book of life. The book of a great life. God has so much to show us. A world full of beauty and fun. He just asks that we enjoy it with Him.

What has God blessed you with that you should be enjoying more? Let us know in the comments below.

Y’all have a blessed one!
