Renegade Games are releasing Aquicorns later this year, a board game designed by Steve Ellis, Tyler Tinsley, Ben Eisner, and Tim Eisner. Adapted from the Oni Press original graphic novel by Katie O’Neill, The Aquicorn Cove Board Game will encourage players to dive into an underwater conservation adventure.
Aquicorn Cove announced by Renegade Game Studios
Unable to rely on the adults in her storm-ravaged seaside town, a young girl must protect a colony of magical seahorse-like creatures she discovers in the coral reef. From the Eisner Award-winning author of The Tea Dragon Society and Princess Princess Ever After comes Aquicorn Cove, a heartfelt story about learning to be a guardian to yourself and those you love.
If it looks like your cup of sea water, you can check out the graphic novel it’s based on now.
If you think you’ve heard of Walking in Burano before, you may well have, with reviews floating around from as early as October last year. Well now the release window is finally with us for the AEG version, which launches in September.
Walking in Burano, AEG hitting retail in September.. yeah.. September
Walking in Burano is a family game. Players place the Floor Cards in order to receive a visit from different characters. They will score points based on the various symbols on the houses. To be the player with the most points at the end of the game.
Well it’s certainly pretty. September is some way off though.
New York Toy Fair saw a few board game anouncements, but one that’s grabbed our attention is Tantacle Town! from Monster Fight Club (thier first new boardgame).

Fluxx fans, the gift that keeps on giving is paying out once again, with Looney Labs bringing both a Marvel edition and a Jumanji edition to market.
Cardinal/Spinmaster and Looney Labs are pleased to announce a new partnership to create licensed card games for all channels. The companies are currently working on two games—Marvel Fluxx and Jumanji Fluxx. Both companies will publish versions of the games, each in the same slightly-larger-than-typical sized box. The Cardinal version will release with a $15 US MSRP for mass market, whereas the Looney Labs version will contain seven bonus cards, and will sell for $20 in specialty and hobby. In addition, both versions will display a premium poker chip style collectible turn token in a clear window on the front of the package! This is the start of a creative partnership between the two companies, which will see more jointly released games in the future.
Jumanji and Marvel Fluxx coming later this year from Looney Labs
Expect to see Jumanji and Marvel Fluxx Q3 this year.
We feel like we’ve banged on about Z-Man Games a lot over the last few weeks, but here we are again. Z-Man Games is bringing us a new edition of Love Letter, yeah, that Love Letter.
Well the card art does look nice… right?
We were excited to welcome Love Letter into the Z-Man brand and we are even more thrilled to release this new edition of the game. Love Letter remains the fast, portable card game you know and love, but now this award-winning game has a set of gorgeous new illustrations by Citadels artist Andrew Bosley, including a couple of new characters, now enabling gameplay for up to 6 players.
If you’re super pumped for yet another edition of this classic game, you can pre-order over at the Z-Man website.
Dungeon Mayhem is a quick draw, duelling card game for 2–4 players. It’s really quick to learn and play, so even those players who hate learning a new game won’t be frustrated at all when they start playing.
Dungeon Mayhem.. rather loved by all in the groups that played numerous times.
Each game takes about 10 minutes, sometimes much less time if the cards are in your favour! Dungeon Mayhem consists of four different classes and characters, which players will choose from. The artwork is fun, bright and quirky and the font size on the cards is easy to read, though it’s not even that necessary to read them, as this game is all about looking at the symbols on the cards and working out your best strategy. How will you deal the most damage to your opponent, while protecting and healing yourself? Simple!
Simple but brilliant Dungeons and Dragons card game
If you enjoy quick card games, like Fluxx or Pairs, then Dungeon Mayhem is a game you definitely need to add to your collection. With only four characters and classes from Dungeons & Dragons, it’s easy to assume that Dungeon Mayhem will have some expansions released in the future and we hope they do! It’s a brilliant game, and because of the small size of the box, it’s one that I will keep in my handbag.
Z-Man Games seem to be releasing a slew of games already this year and here’s another one. Hadara (Arabic for culture) is a new civ builder set to release in the US in Spring (their spring).
Hadara from Z-Man Games, it certainly looks pretty
Hadara features a unique card selection system. In the center of the board a rotating wheel has five creatures: a dragon, a pegasus, a lion, a monkey, and a scarab, each representing a player’s civilization. During each epoch, players will draw from the deck that their civilization’s symbol on the wheel is pointing to. Then the wheel will rotate, offering new opportunities for each player. The cards you choose will allow you to increase your income, claim colonies, complete statues, feed your populace, or give you unique effects for the game ahead. When drawing cards and choosing who to recruit for your civilization, you must think carefully and make tactical decisions. Your opponents may have the opportunity to recruit someone you didn’t.
Shape your civilization, stymie your opponents, and create a legacy for the ages! Hadara will be $59.99 USD on release.
The Game Designers is documentary that follows the work of five designers as they create and publish their board game. The documentary includes numerous interviews with some of the industries best including Matt Leacock, Antoine Bauza, Mike Selinker and many more. The movie aims to truly capture the human journey that happens behind the hobby we love. The Game design is something I love to read and learn about. I read about game design because I dabble and play around with design myself. I read about game design because I love how something comes together, like a behind the scenes documentary. But mostly, I read about game design because I love how design works and seek to apply the design principles to many areas of learning. I am truly excited for this project and cannot wait to see if come to fruition. With over 20 days to go on the campaign why not go check it out for yourself.
