Christmas Day Looks

HELLO DECEMBER….. it’s the most wonderful time of the year!!

I absolutely adore this time of year!!

Christmas decorations, snuggly nights in watching movies, Christmas parties and family gatherings!

There’s a real warm atmosphere around Kildare this time of year… especially in the shopping centres. I’ve noticed a sense of calm this year… everyone taking in the atmosphere and Christmas music! There seems to be less frazzle which is lovely considering I work from Shopping Centres all day long doing Personal Styling!

It is a very busy time of year for me but strangely enough there are very few client looking for Christmas Party clothes and more on the hunt for good winter essentials that will carry them over the Christmas period and beyond!

There are a lot of less formal Christmas parties happening now, where it is straight to a pub after work or informal restaurant gatherings..

This can be tricky because the shops are a wash with sparkle and sequins at the moment… So instead of doing Christmas Party looks this week for Stylicious, I decided to do, what I feel is the most important outfit of the season…..

Your Christmas Day Look…

Now whether you spend all of Christmas Day in your PJ’s or prefer to dress up for the occasion, I’ve picked out some fab Christmas Day outfits to suit everyones needs and to make sure you look your best on this very important day of the year!

I’ve always been one to dress up on Christmas Day because we always go to Christmas morning Mass and then spend Christmas Dinner with all our family. It’s a big family gathering in my house! But it’s quite a hands on kind of a day, preparing dinner, cleaning up after present unwrapping etc so comfort is key!

Here’s my favourite looks from the high street at the moment to suit everyone’s taste and bodyshape.

Look 1 – Ideal for Pear shapes bodies.

Tip: Off Shoulder tops are great for balancing out the hip area.

Look 2 – Perfect for everyone.

Look 3 – Great look for Column shape

Tip: For Column shape bodies add pattern and texture to create interest and shape.

Look 4 – Perfect for you Hourglass & Column shape ladies.

Tip: Structure and Tailoring is key.

Look 5 – Super look for Inverted Triangles

Tip: Keep shoulder area simple and draw the eye inwards by choosing detailed neckline to take the emphasis off your broad shoulders.

Look 6 – Great look for Apple Shape Bodies

Tip: Empire line is great for apple shape bodies as it will skim over tummy, giving optimal confidence.

LOOK 7: Great for apple, hourglass and column shaped bodies! Your legs are you best feature! A slim pair of trousers and jeans can really emphasis this asset!

LOOK 8: A wrap dress is so flattering on all body shapes! Especially curvy ladies to emphasis you waist! The New Look Curve Section is fantastic for trendy affordable looks for curvy girls!

I’ve Got You Covered! Lets talk coats!

Now October is a funny time of year!! The mornings are absolutely freezing but by 12pm you are baked and stripping off!! So it’s a very common season for colds & flu because of this miss matched weather!

So my advice to you is always bring your coat….

This time of year a lot of my clients are searching for the perfect coat and my advice will always be “Go for something bright” even if it is a neutral colour, try to purchase something that will brighten your complexion rather than going for greys and blacks.

For Hourglass, pear and column shaped bodies I would suggest something that’s nipped in or belted at the waist. A-line is a lovely shape for creating and emphasising a waist.

Here are some perfect examples that are in stores at the moment:

Principles at Debenhams €144

Star by Julien MacDonald at Debenhams €128

Vila €99.99

For Apple shaped bodies I’d suggest a single button or slight flare coat!

Try a neckline that is neat or even collarless to avoid any unnecessary bulk around the bust.

Block colours are best with little fuss around the middle. Or something with cleverly positioned panelling to create the optical illusion of a more defined waist.

Here are some I suggest for this body shape:

River Island €94

Debenhams €70.40

Vila – €84.99

For inverted triangle body shapes, try avoid large lapels/collars and also avoid any shoulder detail so it doesn’t widen your shoulder area out.

Try something with hip detail such as pockets!

Here’s my top picks for Inverted Triangle Shape bodies.

H&M – €89.99

Vila – €99.99

Vero Moda – €89.99

If you are a little confused as to what body shape you fall in to, Ive attached my beautiful 5 Body Shape Illustrations drawn for me by the very talented Linda Byrne Illustration from Kildare.

These will make it a lot easier for you to figure it out if you don’t all ready know.

I hope this blog post has been helpful. Thank you so much for taking the time to read.

And remember…… Wrap up warm xx

A Roaring Trend

So like it or loath it, there is no avoiding the Animal Print Trend that has hit the stores and boutiques this season!

Now, I have always been a huge fan of this print! Especially the traditional leopard print but also the red/black animal print trend!

I own many an animal print dress, skirt and even the odd blouse but if full on leopard is not for you but you still want to embrace this new trend, there is still ways to achieve it!

Try adding maybe a subtle scarf, a pair of killer leopard heels or even a little clutch bag! This subtle little leopard print statement can be equally as effective and in some cases…. more effective!

I’ve put together some of my favourite pieces in stores at the moment including the subtle touch of leopard as well as the full on show stopper looks xx

First up……. The full on Leopard Print Dress!! My personal favourite!! Be Brave!! It can look very elegant!

ASOS – Religion – Maxi €152.08

Zara Shirt Dress – €49.95

Oasis Dress – €65

The Leopard Print Blouse!! A fantastic was of wearing the trend as separates. A classy blouse can look so well on a night out with a pair of Faux Leather trousers, Jeans or cropped slim leg trousers.

ASOS Blouse – €24.89

Oasis Blouse – €50

River Island €40

Another fantastic way to incorporate this trend into your wardrobe is through footwear! It can be a really subtle, by classy way to pull it off and sometimes …. less is more!

New Look €27.99

New Look – €35.93

ASOS – Adidas Superstars – €117.31

Now, if you are not prepared to spend a huge amount on this trend, you can simply add a small accessory! A simple clutch bag, scarf or necklace can add a touch of the trend without being too OTT!

Penney have some fantastic accessories for under €10, so very pocket friendly.

Here are some of my favourites from Oasis.

Oasis clutch bag €33

Oasis Scarf – €24

Oasis necklace – €13

The Leopard and Animal Print trend is one that appears in stores every Autumn and Winter, so I can assure you, what you buy now will be still in fashion this time next year! This trend is going nowhere fast! So no matter what you are on the “Prowl” for, there is something out there to suit everyone!

Thanks so much for reading my blog post.

Love Gail xx

Season Transition Must Have Items

Well the evenings are definitely getting shorter and the mornings are without a doubt a bit nippier!!!

Now I don’t know about you but I’m looking forward to the cosy jumper and opaque tight season!

Autumn is my favourite time of year for fashion! But It can be tricky mastering that seasonal transition especially when it’s so chilly in the mornings but by 12pm it’s scorching …..

So I’ve put together a few Capsule Wardrobe must have items that you should invest in, to get you though this period but also carry you straight into Autumn/Winter!

Item 1

Faux Suede Jacket

Now there are quite a few of these in stores at the moment but a lot of them are very heavy thick fabric with cumbersome belts!!!

But in my opinion, the best on out there at the moment is the River Island one!!!

It’s super soft, light weight and has a stretch, making it super comfortable.

I bought mine last year and was over joyed when I seen them in stores again this Season!

It is €80, and probably the more pricey one out there but I swear to you it’s the best investment you will ever make in your wardrobe! It goes with everything!!

Item 2

Wrap dress with sleeves

So as you all know I’m a huge lover of wrap dresses!!

They are so flattering on and can hide a multitude due to their adjustable ability!

I have a good few in my wardrobe but my favourite one at the moment, is this fabulous animal print one from Oasis!!

It is a good quality stretch fabric, so very comfortable on the arms, shoulders and across the back!

It’s very true to size and can currently be worn with bare legs but when the weather gets a bit nippier you can add your opaque tight and ankle boots making it a perfect transitional seasonal piece that will bring you right up to early Summer next year!

So win win!! Great investment piece

€60

Item 3

Coatigan

I love Coatigans!!!

It’s neither a coat or a cardigan it’s somewhere in between which makes it perfect for Autumn!

I love the Vila Coatigans! They come in a long and short version but me personally, I love the longline ones! Great over jeans with a simple cami top or add a polo neck in a few weeks when the temperatures drop.

It’s a great all year round piece really!!

Item 4

Shoe boots

Footwear can be the trickiest thing for season transitional periods. But for this time I year I would highly recommend shoe boots!

These are perfect with jeans, ankle grazer trousers that we find are too short for boots and dresses/skirts with opaque tights.

Shoe boots are the answer because they work with every single item of clothing you own.

The ones I’m wearing in the Image are from phillipsshoes.ie but other great places to buy are Dune London (€65)  and Marks & Spencers (will hit shelves in the next few weeks)

So they are my 4 simple Capsule pieces that will help you with this transition Period from summer to autumn.

I own all of these items and they are great investment pieces you will never regret buying.

Thanks for taking the time to read and I hope its been helpful xx

Love

Gail xx

When in doubt ….. Wear Denim!

Denim is without a doubt the most timeless fabric to have in your wardrobe that suits everyone and is unbelievably versatile!

It is such an easy fabric to wear and if you have the essentials in your wardrobe, you will always have something to wear!!

When I’m working with clients, I arm them with a capsule wardrobe list for the to build over time! And the 4 Denim must haves on my Gails Rails Capsule Wardrobe List are good jeans suited to you body shape, a denim jacket, a denim shirt and a simple soft denim dress! They really are fantastic items to have in your wardrobe and are multi seasonal, but just because it’s traditional and safe, doesn’t mean it’s boring! Get creative with it!

I’ve put together some cool ways I wear my denim items and also the best places to purchase these items.

The Denim Shirt

The most versatile piece in my wardrobe!! Worn open with leggings, runners and a white t-shirt for a more lounging around days but can be easily dressed up as seen in the photo!

I love wearing a maxi skirt with a cami top and a denim shirt over it! But I tie a knot in the front of the shirt for a cooler street style look!

It’s also a great way of concealing a tummy as the rooshed knot draws the eye in and hides a multitude!

Denim on denim is also a very cool look! I wear a darker indigo wash colour denim jeans with my lighter shade denim shirt! I feel it works better without having that clashed look that can be a fashion fail and can also look a bit cow girl!

My denim shirt is from Vila €39.99

other great places to buy are H&M, Only, Vera Modo and Oasis

The Denim Jacket

For me a Denim Jacket is the most versatile piece of clothing in my wardrobe! I have 3 in my wardrobe! A white one which is so handy in the summer for nippy evenings! A light blue traditional one with is worn to death! It’s a lovely fitted structured one with a stretch so it’s unbelievably comfortable! And I have an indigo cropped one for over dresses! I love draping this one over my shoulders for a more formal “Going Out” look.

Both jackets I’m wearing are from Vila €39.99

Other great places to buy are Oasis and H&M

The perfect pair of jeans!

Ok I know!! This is a tricky one!!

We are all on the hunt for a perfect pair of jeans!!

Well I think this all depends on your body shape!

I find with clients, Pear and hourglass figures struggle the most with jeans!

The reason being is because pear and hourglass figures have rounder bottoms, chunkier thighs but very narrow waists! So the issue is trying to get jeans that accommodate the thigh area but are snug on your little waist!

I’m a pear shaped body myself so feel your pain and understand completely how difficult this is!

My advice is to find a pair of jeans with a double way stretch! Meaning they will stretch from top to bottom as well side to side!!

But also high waisted! Especially for hourglass and pear shaped bodies!

High waisted will sit better on our narrow waists and won’t have gap on the lower back dip that most of us have. I love the Tiffossi brand double button jeans which are available online from McElhenneys.com!

I also love Vila’s jeans range especially the high waisted back zip ones that I’m wearing in the picture.

The Denim Dress

A denim dress is a fantastic little item to have in you wardrobe! It’s so versatile!

I’ve worn mine over my bikini while on holidays but have also worn it dressed up with wedges and a clutch bag for a night out

Dressed up or down it’s a timeless item to own!

Mine is from @Vila €49.99

Other great places to buy denim dresses are ASOS, Zara and Tommy Hilfiger

So whether its work, a date, a weekend look, or a night out….. you denim wardrobe will never let you down! So no matter what age you are, embrace this timeless trend thats definitely worth investing in xxxxx

Summer Wardrobe Essentials

So, it’s officially Summer!!!

We’ve had a good few nice days and even the sun dresses have shown their face! But in general, every summer, I always rely on certain items that are timeless and never date!

As you all know, Im a huge fan of a capsule wardrobe!

There are 3 types of CAPSULE WARDROBE!

The first is a MAIN capsule wardrobe, that is multi seasonal! Items that can be used throughout summer and winter months!

Good timeless items you can always rely on and always have something to wear!

(See my website www.gailsrails.ie for the perfect capsule wardrobe)

The second is a WINTER capsule wardrobe, which consists of heavy knits, warm outer wear and boots, all of which work in harmony with you Main Capsule Wardrobe!

And the third is a SUMMER capsule wardrobe, which is what I’m focusing on today!

Every year the same items reappear in my wardrobe come early spring and to be honest, I could never live without these items in the summer months whether home or abroad!

So here are my summer essentials that I can’t live without!

1- Maxi Skirts

OK, so as many of you know, I am a bit leg conscious! Im a classic Pear body shape and as an Image Consultant it is all about enhancing the good and disguising the flaws. So a maxi skirt is great for this! It’s  something I’v always had and love, and hides those knees!

They are fantastic for hotter days at home or abroad! I love the jersey fabric ones! They are so comfy and easy to wear! And they go with petty much every footwear!

A lot of petite ladies avoid maxi skirts but actually if it’s in a block colour and is in a pencil jersey style it can actually elongate you!

They are fab with wedges but equally amazing with converse or flip flops! I always buy good base colours like black, navy, grey or khaki because they go with most colour tops!

Great places to buy nice maxi skirts are H&M, Vila, Twirl Boutique Newbridge, Secret Kloset Kilcullen, Mary Grant Newbridge and sometimes even Tesco!

The one I’m wearing in the picture is from Vila €24.99 & €39.99

2 – Wedges

Now, Im a girl that likes a bit of height!

Don’t get me wrong, I still love my flip flops, converse and flat sandals but I will always go for my wedges first.

My favourites are my black Tommy Hilfiger ones I got in the States but I also love my navy Penneys ones and Tesco black ones. My Penneys ones are 2 years old this summer are have still stood the test of time!

Other great places to buy wedges is Dune London, Marks & Spencers, Pavers, Penneys, New Look and Debenhams.

3 – Denim Jacket

Everyone needs a little Denim Jacket for a spring/summer capsule wardrobe!

Its the most used item in my wardrobe this time of year whether home or abroad! Often used for traveling in, wearing in evenings over dresses while abroad when it gets a bit chilly but more often just used on a daily basis as a cover up at home!

Lets face it, we live in Ireland and our strapless/sleeveless days are few and far between! So a light, soft, waist length denim jacket is a must!

Perfect over sun dresses or skirts, turned up collar and you can pull off a really effortless look that always looks well and can bring you anywhere!

It’s an item that never dates, will never let you down and will come out year after year!

Great places to buy denim jacket are H&M, Vila, Oasis and New Look.

The ones I’m wearing in the image are from Vila €59.99

4 – Light weight crepe / cargo trousers

Now I’ll be honest! These are brand new to my summer essential list that I will never be without!

Being a Pear shape, I find it very hard to get flattering cargo trousers! I find they are always too tight on my thigh and if I go up a size, the end up massive on my waist and bum area! Most of them are very masculine and ugly.

But I discovered this pair in H&M recently with elasticated waist and turn up that are slight ankle grazers on me, which I love! (Im 5.7) They have a slight stretch and the fabric is so light (but not see through) and super soft! I bought them in Khaki and loved them so much I returned and bought the black – €17.99

So a little tip when looking for summer cargo trousers that are flattering on a woman’s body shape, look for a little stretch in the fabric! It makes all the difference and less masculine looking!

Another fantastic store for cargo trousers in a variety of colours is Vila Clothes!

Click edit button to change this text.

5 – Footless Tights

Now these are not necessarily for when Im abroad, but definitely while I’m home here in Ireland. I love the little short sun dresses and tea dresses but I don’t love my knees! But by wearing the black footless tight means I don’t have to eliminate them from my wardrobe and I really love the look especially with wedges and wrap dresses.

REMEMBER – Don’t change to suit fashion, change fashion to suit you!!

And you will often see me with a Maxi Dress on with the same footless tights! WHY!! Because I just love that type of look! Not because I need to hide anything! Its just another cool way to wear a dress. I wear my Zara Shirt Dress open to the thigh with my footless tight and love the way it looks!

I bought mine in Penneys (€5) and I stock up on them when they are in stock but I did see recently that Marks & Spencers stock them too! (Just type in “footless tights” into their search engine!)

6 – A shirt Dress

This is one of my favourite pieces in my wardrobe.

Once you put on a shirt dress and choose your footwear, you are dressed from head to toe in a classic, simple, elegant look that honestly can be dressed up or down!

Iv worn mine as a coverup be the pool while on holidays. Iv also worn it with strappy heeled sandals, statement belt and clutch bag for a night out!

Great places to buy are Oasis, Banana Republic, Tommy Hilfiger, H&M, New Look and ASOS

The one I’m wearing in the image is from Stradivarius €39.99

So they are my six essential basis items that I can not live without during the summer months. Six very simple pieces, but by simply adding nice accessories, plain t-shits or blouses, outfits are very easily made up to accommodate any weather.

Remember, don’t over think an outfit, sometimes the nicest outfits are made up of the most very basic items.

Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication!

Racing Style Tips & Advice

GAILS RAILS RACING STYLING TIPS AND INSPIRATIONS

Lots of great race meeting coming up over the next few months but it’s a tricky occasion to dress for and we sometime overthink it!

So I’ve put together Gails Rails five PERSONAL STYLING RACING TIPS, to help you stand out from the stylish racing crowds for all the right reasons!

Along with some outfit inspiration looks that are Ladies Day worthy.

1- ENJOY DRESSING UP– We don’t get the opportunity to get as dressed up as we do for the races very often, so, we should embrace it. I always say “when I’m doubt, dress up”

Consider the complete look especially accessories and headpiece which can completely transform a simple outfit! Monochrome is outfits for the races is still my all time favourite! Think…. Audrey Hepburn from My Fair Lady.

2- A HEADPIECE IS A MUST IN MY OPINION – This season, delicate headbands and crowns are still one of the most popular headwear. I personally love a large brim headpiece, worn to the side in block colours or monochrome. But also love pearls, fresh-cut flowers, feather detailing and try experiment with tulle or silk options and make your own stunning creation to be completely unique.

3- DRESS CODE – It’s important to keep it classy and dress for the races, not a nightclub.

Hemlines should be at or below the knee, and never wear anything too short or too sparkly.

Avoid anything too tight, revealing, strapless or midriff-baring!

Do consider trousers or a jumpsuit as well but not shorts!

And keep in mind that the races are a daytime event, so be wary of materials and shapes that spell-out evening like metallic or sequins.

You want to stand out from the crowd for the right reasons.

4- EMERGENCY ESSENTIALS – You don’t want any wardrobe, makeup or hair malfunctions on the day, so bring extra bobby pins, a safety pin, eye drops (as it can get breezy and cause havoc with your eye makeup) party feet, a portable phone charger and a travel size deodorant to keep fresh.

5 – HAPPY FEET – Obvious right!!! But if you truly want to enjoy your day, comfy shoes are a must! Because you will be in your feet for most of the day!! As much as you want to look great at the races, make sure you dress for comfort. You don’t want to be that girl holding her shoes at the end of the day! I like wearing shoes with a ankle or crisscross strap for support and obviously shoes that I have broken in. If you think you will be walking over grass, do keep in mind that a thicker heel is a more practical option. I also suggest a mid/height heel – No sky scrapers!

So if you are heading to the races over the coming months, have a fantastic time and if you follow the little tips above you can be guaranteed a “WINNER ALL RIGHT’
