Hi! I'm Care. I am a lover of all things fashion, style, and beauty. My true passion is thrifting and affordable clothing with a hint of modern flare. Join me as I share my love for fashion with you here on Fashion with Care.
Would you believe we are well into Fall? I feel like I missed out on a lot of the Summer this year because I was so busy planning for life in the Fall, and not actually living in the moment. This is not necessarily a bad thing for me, its honest though. Tying to find the time to fit everything into everything else can be difficult, but through it all you have to stay positive and keep a smile. This season of my life has made me appreciate the little things more and more.
Lately, I have been in a very good place and I plan to keep it that way. I have been blessed beyond measure in my personal, professional, and blogging life! Although I have some abundant highs, I have had some challenging lows, but I have learned how to stay positive and enjoy life through it all. We should do our best to keep life simple if we can. Live off of the “live, love, laugh” rule (which is easier said than done). I have begun to smile and be grateful for the morning sunshine, the ability of my limbs, and my employment. This seems minor but I recognize that I am living a life without lack. Can I have more money, sure, can I lose a few pounds, if I tried, of course we can all talk about the things we hope for, but how often do we really appreciate and recognize the things we already have? The outfit in this post is my take on enjoying the simple things. So, when I first began this post, I was not trying to be overly deep, but it evolved as I began to write. I stumbled across this top a little while ago while shopping at Target (in the clearance of course). This shirt is the definition of purity and clean. It reminds me that each new day is a day to start fresh, to cleanse myself of yesterdays hurts, disappointments, and mistakes. Seriously, I really began to think about that when I saw myself in this shirt. The sleeves being bell shaped and having a small net type fabric reminds me of the opportunities we have to “breathe” and free ourselves in moments of despair. The shirt is loose fitting yet clings to the shoulders which reminds me that every situation won’t fit you same way/ There will be times where its the perfect fit, you’re equipped with the tools to handle what is thrown your way, and there will be times where the fit is a little less perfect and you’ll have to work at the resolution. Of course, I had to pair this top with one of my favorite jeans, “distressed” because they remind me that it is okay to be imperfect. You may have rips and scars that make you seem unworthy, but when paired with the right *insert noun* you become complete. These jeans are full of tiny threads and to the common eye they go unnoticed individually, but when you rip and tear at the fabric you can expose the individual threads that make up these jeans. This is the same thing that happens when life rips and tears at you, it reveals the individual and unique parts of you, but that’s just it, they help to make you!
I ended this look with a wick made purse decorated in a floral design with shoes to compliment it. Flowers are recognized and appreciated for their beauty no matter where they are. This too reminds me of the many reasons and ways to recognize the beauty I posses.
I hope you enjoyed this post and didn’t get too bored or overwhelmed with my “oversharong.”
I am back with some new pieces. All of which come from 2 of my favorite stores. One of these pieces is from Target and two of these pieces are from Goodwill. Can you tell which are from where? Of course you can’t, because they all look so good (In my mind at least). Today’s look is one that I am excited about and want everyone to own lol.
Let’s start from the top down. As you know Goodwill of Greater Grand Rapids has been good to me in so many ways! I have been able to find almost all of my work clothes there and so many of my favorite pieces have also been found in Goodwill. Both this blazer and top are new editions to my Goodwill collection and they came together so well in this look. The blazer cost me $5, while the top was $2.99. Talk about a steal. One of the things I loved most about this blazer is that it did not need to be altered. It fit me perfectly right off the rack and was so comfortable as well. It is a cotton blend and a truly vibrant pink color. The top had this cute detail on it, which meant I couldn’t possibly pass it up and it is sleeveless which allowed me to have some breathing room with the blazer.
Now, Target comes in at a good 1.5/2nd to Goodwill for me and I can’t tell you how excited I was to try out their new line “A New Day“. I stumbled on this line while walking through the aisle on the way to the clearance rack and could not pass up these ankle pants. I usually begin my shopping shenanigans in the Clearance section, but these got my attention before I made it there. First off the color of them is so unique to me and I have never had a pair of pants this color (Of course I purchased the Black pair as well.) I love that they are belted with a super cute tie belt and believe it or not, they were only $24! I have already worn these pants twice because I can’t get enough of them! If you like these, check out the entire A New Day collection. Of course, I have to share a little detail of these shoes with you as they were a bargain as well. I purchased these from Amiclubwear last year for $15 and decided to bring them out once more before the season completely changes. The many colors in these shoes played very well with this look and the floral detail gave some added detail to the overall look itself. I am so happy with this look and being able to pull it together from two of my all time favorite stores was a plus. Tell me what you thought of this look? Have you checked out the A New Day collection yet? What was the last thing you purchased from your local Goodwill? I’m all ears!
How are you enjoying your day? I know this is a fashion blog, but it is also my place to truly share some of my life and feelings. I promise to share fashion, but I will not ignore things that impact me and my community as well. Although I am not apart of the Houston community, I have family and friends there, and what is happening has effected so many individuals. With so much happening right now in Houston, I have been a bit on the down side. I wish I was in a position to truly help some of the individuals affected by Hurricane Harvey. My sister in love (law) and her family lost their home and I just can’t shake that feeling. Although this is not the happiest time I am still in a place of rejoicing for God the Father keeping people alive. This tragedy is truly a reminder that your life can change at any point. Never forget that.
Gear shift – There is no way to truly share some of the emotions I have been feeling overall with my wedding being less than 30 days away either. My fiance has been sick, my weight has been up and down, work is crazy and I really feel like all the little things are starting to fall a part a bit. I have not ben too stressed about the wedding up to this point, outside of my invitations, but this week has been a world of emotions. My photographer backed out on us, my centerpieces are yet to be completed and I have ordered zero decor for the ceremony. Nonetheless, it’ll all work out, I can feel it.
Although I can go on and on about how I feel about some of the things happening in life right now, I choose to be happy, and wear things that make me just that. On to the fashion! You know how I enjoy a good Burlington find, I also love a good Goodwill find as well. Well this look gives me both! Can you guess which one came from where? Well if you guess the top from Burlington and the skirt from Goodwill you are absolutely right! I have been holding on to this skirt for years and it never fails me when pairing it with something new. I came across this ruffle top at Burlington when I was out a few weeks ago and I just had to add it to the collection. It’s so Summer, yet feels so Fall (perfect transition).
As the focus of this look is the ruffles in this top and the fringe in these shoes, I am absolutely in love with the ability to pair them together. I did not realize when I purchased this shirt how much it would compliment these shoes and add to this look overall, but I am so glad I purchased both! I wanted to keep this look simple and I believe I did just that letting the fringe in the shoes highlight the look. Tell me what you thought of this look!
I am so excited! I made it on the Top 40 fashion blogs of the Summer! Yes, little ol’ me! I am still in awe, and extremely grateful! I have worked hard on fashion with Care, and I must say I am proud of the progress I’ve made. I really owe so much of my excitement and passion to all of you who keep up with me, support and follow my journey! Waking up each day excited and motivated to share my world of fashion with you has become pure joy! In doing so I am learning so much about myself, the people around me and my community! As you may recall when I shared “pink ruffles” I talked about how I wanted to explore my beautiful city more. Well, Grand Rapids has struck again with its vibrant art and cool places!
I stumbled upon this gem which is a restaurant in downtown Grand Rapids while I was just riding around. How have I lived here 3 years and missed a piece such as this? Well, I found it now and I am in love with it all the way around! I was able to pose in my simple look in front of a beautiful body of work! Looks like fashion with Care is becoming an art gallery in some ways, lol. On to the quick facts of this look! Of course I had to grab this super cute denim top from the Target clearance for $8! Found this curvy girl flare skirt at Forever 21, and finished it off with a Prada bag (such a hand me down, but it’s real!) and some simple sandals! Loved this look and all the fun I had in it! Tell me what you think of the art and this look in the comments!
I am so excited about today’s fit that I’m just going to get right to it! I found this entire look for $40! Oh yes, shoes and all! I could not be happier! As many of you know Burlington is my second fashion home (Goodwill is my first) and I just can’t get enough! My favorite piece to this entire look is my skirt and it was a Burlington win! $12 and a lifetime of class, color, and style! I could not wait to pair this skirt up to wear out! I have found my place in stores like Charlotte Russe, where this top came from, finally! My fiancé actually picked it out for me as part of my New Years outfit this year! This shirt has since been a hit! It has bell sleeves, and open back, and lace! I couldn’t ask for more! I added in my cute and simple orange sandals, and I’m ready for whatever is to come!
I think the picture above shows my true emotions lately. I have so much joy and it puts a smile on my face daily. I think these super cute shorts are helping to add to that smile as well! As many of you know patterns are a trend and polka dots are high on the pattern list. Some of my favorite bloggers have featured polka dots on their blogs and I have loved every moment of it. I decided to add my two cents to the trend.
Of course you know I love a good deal and a fab find! I stumbled upon these shorts at my favorite thrift store, Goodwill! I have worn these shorts a few times to work and each time someone asked me did I have them tailored or where I purchased them from because of the way they fit me. I bought them awhile back when I first started Fashion with Care and I did a “Shorts at work series.” This was a total gamble as I not only at the time did not really wear shorts, I was surely hesitant about wearing shorts to work. All and all they worked out! I love that they are a true blue, long enough to be work appropriate, and have the cutest subtle polka dots.
As I wanted to overdo it with the polka dots for this look, I opted for my polka dot tank which was a $4 win! This shirt is so comfortable and can be worn in every season with or without accompanying layers. I decided on this shirt because of the detail and the opposing polka dots! The shirt being a bit of a looser fit was helpful in keeping me comfortable because the cut of the shorts was a bit more of a fitted style.
To complete this look I added my fringe sandals, and my Groupon bag for a great accessory! This entire look cost me around $40 and I couldn’t be happier. Tell me your thoughts on this look and if you enjoy wearing polkadots.
So I have been trying to do better with exploring my city a bit and having more fun before fun is truly “optional.” It’s hard to believe I have been here 3 years and I still have to use my GPS to go literally everywhere. I am not good with knowing what side of town I am on without the major landmarks, and knowing the major cross streets just embarrass me. One of the ways I am finding creative ways to see more of my city is by finding different locations to shoot my blog pictures. It has not only been beneficial, but its fun and amazing to see all the real beauty my city has to offer.
I stumbled across this hidden gem, (well kind of hidden, it actually covers about 2 blocks of an industrial street in the downtown area). I was literally driving to another location to shoot a look and saw this wall full of art and some beautiful train tracks surrounded by rocks to match! I was excited and had to pose for a pic here. This spot encompasses someones creative artistry as well as captures the idea of the hard working individuals who work inside this building. Not to mention the train tracks having the ability to take you from one side of the area to another. I’m learning to appreciate beauty in the little things. Have you found ways to enjoy your city? Have you stumbled across places you have never seen before?
Now I know I’ve give you an earful NOT about fashion, so on to this fab find I found at the infamous Target! Of course this dress was found on the clearance rack and was a sure hit with everyone who has seen me in it. The dress provides comfort, a beautiful color and the detail of the crossed ruffle top encompassing a cold shoulder is what makes me smile the most. Of course, the only way to complete this look was with some super cute nude sandals that also came from Target. Is there anything you like about this look? Let me know in the comments!
Hey y’all, It’s HOT! Like for real hot! I am from Michigan so hot weather is exciting but also a little bitter sweet. We don’t get summer days for too long, but when we get really good ones, their almost unbearable. As soon as I get used to a season, it changes… I am not exactly sure how I manage every year, but I’m making it day by day lol.
As we talked about recently. I have been in love with wearing Black lately, even when it’s crazy hot outside. Black has actually been pretty cooling for me as it soaks up the sun before it hits my body which is nice. As much as I like wearing black, I’m trying to be concious of not overdoing it, as I should enjoy some summer colors too while I can.
This look was perfect as I focused on a long black sleeveless tunic that was super simple and fit me to a comfort level I loved. I paired it with some distressed denim, which is one of the best ways to wear Summer denim. This top and these stretchy denim were not only cool, but super cute together.
To maximize on keeping cool, I added a sun hat and it worked wonders for not only adding to this look, but to also helping me stay cool on these hot summer days. I wanted a little detail so I added one of my favorite Aldo cross bodies and some animal print heels. This look was a hit and will be one of my staple looks for simple, Summer! What is your favorite detail about this look?
