After a fair space of time and focus on other projects as well as finalizing his studies… We’re ecstatic to reveal that the one and only Swordplay released this extremely fresh re-issue of his 2009 solo album “Malista” on MilledPavement Records and what an album it is!!
Swordplay - Stop Lying to Us (the paper hat sessions) - YouTube
Continuing on with his completely unique flow-patterns and drive to push the boundaries within the indie hiphop genre, Swordplay delivers an all acoustic album that digs as deep as you’re willing to let it. This is a guitar centered album with a difference in that Swordplay’s sheer harmony and severe tonality make this a truly musical project that can be enjoyed as both deep introspective and light-hearted background music making it the perfect addition to any good music collection.
Swordplay - the dust motes (the Paper Hat Sessions) - YouTube
It is a very focused album so if, like myself you’re really into lyrics… I feel you do need to be quite attentive to get the whole message in one listen but it is such an incredible message and melody combination that this album is without a doubt, a must for your list of “thing I can’t do without” for this year!!
When was the last time you listened to an album and afterwards were so completely taken back, that you sat in silence for the next 30 plus minutes reflecting on what you’ve just listened to..!? Well, for me anyway Ceschi’s all new “Sad, Fat Luck” album did just that and so much more…
Ceschi - Say No More (Produced by Factor Chandelier) Official Video - YouTube
As I began to listen, emotions in tact…
I quickly became completely consumed by the no-holds barred cold fact verbal content thrown up in this album from everywhere you look and by the time I reached the title track 4, I was a proverbial meltdown of messy emotions reflecting on all that was and is important in my life and, as I continued on into this all too real netherworld of the Fake Four founders mind, this roller coaster of ever present nostalgia became increasingly incessant and all encompassing in my mind. Topped with what can only be described as stunning production from the super producer, Factor this album echoes greatness throughout its entirety!

Most importantly, many writers will not offer you insight into their minds like this…
and honestly, it’s privilege to be allowed into anyone’s most personal sentiments in such a manner… For those going through a tough space, you are not alone.
In conclusion, I’m probably not the best person to review this album as I couldn’t get though it more than once… so, there may be a few points I’ve overlooked. This doesn’t mean it was any less effectful… just that it’s so much so that one listen was all I needed.

Milwaukee native emcee Taiyamo Denku teams up with producer Jihad Baracus to give you the original mix of “Riot Control”!!
Lifted from Taiyamo Denku’s slick new Maxi Single due to drop April 16, 2019, this track features the likes of Flipmode/Outsidaz first lady Rah Digga, ever popular west coast lyricist Gavlyn and Kansas City’s own Perseph One!
It’s so good in so many ways and the full project is definitely gonna be groundbreaking. Following his gargantuan 2018 album “No Industry Standard“, Denku has undoubtably taken up his place in hiphop history an extreme force to be reckoned with flows so sharp, you gotta be careful they don’t cut you!
You can give the track a spin or 5 and pre-order the epic MAXI Single, right here:
The song Riot control Jihad brings in heavy drums from the jump which Denku devours. Rah Digga follows the hard spoken hook and by the time the Classic voice of Rah Digga stops rhyming she makes sure you know she is here. ” When Things get outta hand ya’ll come get the pioneer” Rah Digga gives you nothing less then what you would expect from the heavy barred lyricist from New Jersey.
After another heavy hook Gavlyn with her unique style and voice comes in establishing the fact she is rhyming with her idol. She then persists to do what she is known for doing and that is using her great delivery and flow to make you listen to what she is saying. We then get to hear original Ces Cru member Perseph One make her mark and end the track with strong lyrics and a style that wont make you forget her. New England Turntablist and 1200 hobos member Shortrock ends the track with cuts that play into the Jihad baracus production canvas very well. This gives you “Riot Control”

Animate ya MindZ… “Savior Self” – New Video from ThiNXx!
Hot off the fresh and kicking off “ThiNXx” for 2019… “Savior Self” is the all new music video offering from the South African Indie hiphop artist ThiNXx!!
“This is an animated video put together by Double Xx Design to help convey the message of the track. It focusses around two characters putting up pasties(posters stuck up with glue) everywhere they can find offering people advise on how to live their lives… or not! It’s basically a bit of fun to affirm the tried and tested message of… “Savior Self”(Save Yourself)”. ~ThiNXx
Too Good to Look Away – YUGEN BLAKROK is “Gorgon Madonna” in her stunning new music video lifted from the intro track of the South African artists revolutionary sophomore album ‘ANIMA MYSTERIUM’ out now on Iapetus Records(South Africa) and I.O.T. Records(France)!!
The Eye-catching, awakening visuals are like a breath of fresh air, taking in the essence of the track and throwing it back at you in live full HD colours that just hold your eyes captive right to the end. It’s a journey into the nether-realm that is the minds of both Yugen and Kanif’s forever flowing fluid soundscapes. Ironically, you can’t look away due to it’s sheer beauty even though the “”gorgon” title specifically states otherwise!
Check it out here:
YUGEN BLAKROK - Gorgon Madonna (Official Video) - YouTube
‘GORGON MADONNA’ taken from the album ‘ANIMA MYSTERIUM (Released on 1. February 2019)
“In old Mythology, Medusa (The Gorgon) is cursed by Zeus and is made a monster than Man must fear. No one can look into her eyes as they’ll be turned to stone. The Virgin Mary (The Black Madonna) in religion, as much as she’s the vessel that carries the Christ into the world, is somehow excluded from the Holy Trinity. It is out of this vilification and exclusion of the female element that these two entities meet. Both inspire fear in Man. The Gorgon Madonna is the wrath of Medusa and Mary. The Divine Feminine in the guise of the ultimate warrior: the woman scorned.” ~ Yugen Blakrok
“For this music video I focused on animating the artist’s metaphors without illustrating them in a strictly literal way. From her prose I let emerge a collection of hybrid and extraordinary characters. These characters commune to represent a form of transversality. Transversality of time (youth-old age), of matter (organic-electric), of genre (masculine-feminine) and of species (animal-human)…” ~ Yann Marquis (Director)

Time for some more of the best of 2018, with a new list of things we managed to miss.
At the end of the last year, we released our Choices of 2018.. all of favourite albums in one list along with a fresh Spotify playlist to suite. As we state every year, we try to get to everything but it’s simply impossible… so, instead we list what we can so you can choose your favourite and something new that you haven’t heard before.
So, lets get to it then; these are our 5 favourite projects from 2018 that we didn’t get to cover.
01. Swimming – Mac Miller
I really have no idea how we missed this album but all I can say is that I’m so glad I did. It’s been pretty much on constant rotation for the past 4 months now… despite this, it’s still my go to album at the end of the day. The combination of clever cadence, masterful lyricism and beautiful production that just grows more attractive with each beat, pulling you toward the very essence of the album itself. Mac’s laid back style flows so smoothly over every beat that you just can’t help but need to listen again and again… Check out this album if you haven’t already!
02. Salo Sessions II – Sadistik
Probably the single best sounding project of 2018 in my opinion… this album is all we’ve come to expect from the Los Angeles based super emcee Sadistik. It’s a series of hard hitting horror-core, story-telling songs that ooze and drip character all over the place. Again the combination of flawless production crossed with Sadistik’s unique signature sound make this one project you should have definitely had your ears on on 2018. Do yourself a favour and play it on a really good sound system to take your breath away.
03. Magic Roundabout – Tony Bones The Producer
Looking for some really fresh instrumentals to vibe out to in style? Well, look no further… Wether you’re chilling out, reading, writing rhymes or even looking to get down to some funky smooth production… I can highly recommend this album right here. Basically, when you can get to the end of an album like this and say… “hey, that was fresh… play it again”… you know you’re on to something. Tony Bones is a self proclaimed perfectionist and this shines through wholeheartedly in his work.
04. Figures of Speech – Sammy Warm Hands
This album is epic in so many ways and I honestly have no-idea how we managed to miss it, but these things happen and at least we’re getting there now. Sammy is one seriously dynamic emcee and no matter what beat he’s rocking on he just seems to kill it even more that ever before.. I mean.. is that even possible. Yes, it is. This album encapsulates everything we love in a hip-hop album and definitely delivers something for anyone. Bump it in your headphones or put it on at a party to bring it to life! Go get this album… like, now.
05. Kill the Clone – Zapsign Deebo
Hailing from Zeerust, South Africa and now based in Johannesburg… Zapsign Deebo is the latest addition to the Iapetus Records label, releasing his “Kill the Clone” EP in May last year. Produced in it’s entirety by the one and only Kanif the JhatMaster, this project is an epic journey through the minds of these two artists, elevating you into bliss. Dynamic metaphors, well read knowledge, smooth flow and super-surreal instrumentals means this project is without a doubt our favourite projects from 2018! Get it here:
There are probably still hundreds of albums out there that we haven’t hear or had a chance to get to but that’s it for 2018 from us… We will now wholeheartedly focus on 2019!!

I just can’t get enough of this video and it keeps my eyes completely glued to the screen throughout. This is the third single single and just a taster of what to expect from Ceschi and Factor Chandelier’s ‘Sad, Fat Luck‘ LP out 4/4/19 on Fake Four Inc!!
Directed by Austria’s Squalloscope, “Electrocardiographs” is an ode to queer, liminal, radical culture told behind the fog of depression, grief and poverty in this current Trump era… This track oozes strong emotion & powerful lyrics, topped with Ceschi’s unique rhyme scheme/flow and coupled with Factor’s production means yet another flawless release from the Fake Four stable and I’m completely ecstatic to hear the album when is does drop!!
