Valentines is a funny time of year. The shops are filled with sickly pink hearts and you can’t get through the cosmetics session of John Lewis without being spritzed by 1000 types of perfume meant to make your dream partner fall in love with you. It’s all in the smell…
Sports bras are essential if you have a fuller bust and want to exercise! A good sports bra will hold you in place whilst doing most vigorous of activities and prevent chaffing and discomfort whilst exercising. But sports bras are good for the fuller bust? I have worn many sports…
Taking great lingerie pictures, to a boudoir standard, is an art form. A form that I do not have. But 90% of lingerie photography is about being relaxed in front of the camera, and this is how I do that. I’m not promising you boudoir standard lingerie pictures. The majority…
We all have them – those dirty little secrets that lie hidden at the bottom of your underwear draw! The bra with bent hooks, ill fitting cups, or worn straps that, for some inexplicable reason, we can’t quite bring ourselves to get rid of. We even wear it sometimes (when no-one is likely to see). The lovely ladies at Simply Be contacted me asking me to talk about my own hidden lingerie atrocity – my very own Bra-Humbug!
There is no mystery as to why I can’t get rid of this beautiful Gossard set – it was my wedding lingerie, worn beneath my beautiful gown and (at the time) capable of supporting me through some very rigorous Ceilidh dancing.
As you can see, I have changed shape a lot lately. Illness has meant I’ve lost weight and the swoop & scoop technique has meant that much of my misplaced breast tissue has migrated back to wear it belongs – in my boob! This means I’ve gone from a 36/38FF/G to more of at 34/36H.
This bra is too big on my back, too small in the cup, pushes my boobs down towards my knees and has some strange bulging thing going on in material on the cup. The straps are getting thread bare and the wiring is too wide. Yet I can’t quite break with it … Do you have a Bra-humbug piece?
Luckily, the rest of my lingerie wardrobe is full of well fitting beautiful products that I don’t need to hide away! IIf you’re looking to build a less, ahem, Bra-Humbug collection then do go check our Simply Be – they have some great options from amazing fuller figure brands like: Curvy Kate, Anna Scholz, Panache and Elomi?
Tutti Rouge, the wonderful lingerie company that makes ‘Beautiful Bras for Curvy Girls’, kindly sponsored my under garments for my recent night out at the plus size awards.
I had already purchased the Jessica (you can read my review here) and, although in love with many of their piece, there was one set I was desperate to try … the Betty – with it’s bold floral pattern and ruffled lace details it really was top on my Tutti hit list!
The satin padded balconette bra is devilishly pretty with a cheeky slogan of ‘kiss and tell’ hidden around the bold floral print.
I’m wearing the bra in a 36H and it fits relatively well. The central gore sits nicely against my sternum and the wide back band sits firm against my back (it was actually very firm when first wearing but loosened after a wear or two). The cup is fairly true to size although I will say that I could, potentially, have moved to a 34HH as the band has loosened with the first few wears and, as you can see below, my chest is very full in the cup.
As the Betty is a bra that Tutti bring out in a new pattern every year, I think I will try a 34HH next time.
The balconette style does give me a good uplift and, what I really like, is that the underwires aren’t too wide as they often are with this style of bra. You can see that the wires sit nicely at the edge of my breast and don’t dig into the armpits like many balconette bras do.
The back band is made of a heavy dotted mesh material that is echoed at the sides and back of the matching brief. The bra straps are fairly wise and supportive and feature the Tutti Rouge signature heart-shaped adjusters – I love, love, love these and think all bra adjusters should be made more of!
The satin material that makes up the rest of the bra is also echoed in panels on the front and rear of the brief. On both the bra and brief, the satin is lined by a ruffled lace that is cute!
The briefs I’m wearing are the shortie briefs – they are a size XXL and quite tight – muffin top anyone?
I won’t be able to wear these with anything too tight fitting but they are find for beneath swing dresses and full skirts. For reference, I normally take a size 18-20 pant because I like my pants big – like Bridget Jones big!
The bra is priced at £39.50. Unfortunately, the shortie briefs aren’t appearing on their website but they do have a mini brief style for £17.50.
I would say that the set is worth every penny – the bra is well constructed with great support and looks phenomenal. Tutti Rouge seem to be able to elevate a bra from the ordinary and really do provide those special little details that many fuller busted retailers seem to forget.
I’d also like to stress that this bra is one of the comfiest bras I own – quite simply, I hate taking it off!
Christmas mornings are for shredding open presents surrounded by family! This year, this will be done at my Mother-in-Laws so I’m guessing my usual skimpy night dress and barely there robe are appropriate for the occasion.
This means only one thing, I need some Christmas PJs!
Being nominated for Best New Blog at the British Plus Size Awards was a complete honour for me! I never thought people would ever read my blog – let alone nominate me for an award.
I started blogging as a hobby just over a year ago but it quickly became more than that. It became a a way of expressing my own feelings, of finding a way of expressing my voice. Blogging became a way to celebrate women of all shapes and sizes and I was accepted into one of the most amazingly supportive communities out there.
I may not have won the award, but growing in confidence and being welcome into this group of cheerleaders is enough for me!
Hayley of Curves & Curls won the award on the night – she is a mega babe in every sense of the word and has supported me through some really tough times lately. She has an amazing blog where she regularly shows of her vintage style and wild hair to perfection. Unfortunately, I failed to get a picture with her (blame the excessive consumption of champagne), but I stole these beautiful photos off her blog – isn’t she just gorgeous?
My own dress for the night was very kindly provided by Phase 8 and was the wondrously stunning Avalia dress from the Collection 8 range. The dress in size 18 fitted me so perfectly that it could have been made only for me. With a sumptuous soft pink satin slip overlaid with black lace and gem encrusted details, I felt every bit the red carpet starlet in this dress!
Looking good and feeling confident in yourself is always a great feeling, but this was my first night out after a horrible few months of complications with my health which was some of the most devastatingly emotional times I have been through. I was nervous about being seen, nervous about holding my head high and nervous that I was going to get dizzy and fall over.
Tamara and I
Luckily I had an emotional crutch in the form of my best friend, Tamara, who holds my hand through anything and always makes me feel better about myself. I also had my physical crutch which stops me falling over, the downside in that is that people also ask questions, that I’m not quite ready for, about why I need a crutch!
One thing I will say is that everyone was very supportive, despite my vagueness when questioned, and as the night went on my confidence soared! I even managed a little dance, although I’m sure Lottie’s claims of my twerking are sorely over exaggerated!
In addition to being lent this beautiful Phase Eight dress, I was also lucky enough to be sponsored for my shoes and undies! I love my heels, and refuse to let a dead leg prevent me from wearing the most visually dramatic shoes possible. These sparkly gold beauties were kindly given to me my New Look and are so very comfy and, with the addition of a heel guard on my smaller right foot, the size 6 fitted like a dream!
Tutti Rouge kindly sent me the most beautiful lingerie set to wear on the night and I promise that a full review will follow. Unfortunately, the bra simply didn’t work with the dress which has a fairly low back so I was unable to wear it on the night but I would still like to say a huge thank you to the Tutti team who were incredibly generous in sponsoring my pants!
My handbag glittery gold handbag was also from New Look and my rather spectacular earrings were a last minute purchase from Next seconds before catching the train into London. Silly me always forgets about the jewellery!
Santa Baby, slip a little lingerie under the tree for me …Oh yes, it’s that time of year again. In my mind, lingerie and Christmas come in hand in hand – this may be because I met my husband Christmas eve but it’s more likely because I love to wrap myself up as a present come the festive season. This is my christmas lingerie wish list, it is not practical … a more practical, lingerie solution post will follow … this is pure indulgence!
I have this set in the nude colour and love it! There is something very Christmassy about the black and gold – encase me in, place me on top of the tree, and I’ll be sexiest damn angel this holiday season!
A few weeks ago, when talking to Sculptresse by Panache about some product reviews, I mind a bit of typo. I was talking about my Christmas Lookbooks when my computer kindly autocorrected the sentence to Christmas Cookbooks and so I just had to do some shoots of cooking in my lingerie!
Now, I do not recommend you cook in your lingerie – hot oil and bare skin rarely go hand in hand and I will not be responsible for any burns that may result in trying to do so.
I do, however, recommend trying the Pure Lace collection by Sculptresse!
If you don’t know already, Sculptresse are the fuller figured range of lingerie from Panache – they stock D – J cup lingerie to give ‘your confidence a boost with Sculptresse support, comfort, and amazing fit’. The go to a 46 band and a 26 in the pants. I do find the 26 in a pants is a little limiting for a brand that celebrates the fuller figure and I hope they will consider expanding this in the future.
Sculptress kindly sent me the Pure Lace bra in black in a size 36GG and the matching High Waist briefs in a size 20. Both fit rather beautifully and offer great support.
The bra is a moulded t’shirt bra that gives a great rounded shape to the boobs. It has a subtle uplift and a lace overlay that adds a little va-va-voom making it as worthy of a night out as wearing beats a plain blouse during the day.
The bra has quite wide straps that offer great support and are slightly padded to take some of the pressure off the shoulders. This shows that Sculptresse are really thinking about comfort for girls with a heavier bust and I’m impressed with this little detail.
The back band is wide with a 3 hook fastening and comes fairly true to size.
The high waisted pants aren’t as high as I would have liked from the name but still sit a good few inches above my hips and happily encase my love handles. They are very smooth, even with the seems, I think these will look great beneath those slinky body con dresses that run a high risk of VPL.
The front of the brief is sheer with the back lined.
The lace is really quite gorgeous on these pants so I had to take details shot!
I’m really impressed with this set and may need to buy it in the nude lace as I’m in need of new t-shirt bra.
The bra is priced at £42 and the briefs at £22. It is not the cheapest set on the market, but the fit and quality means it’s definitely worth investing in.
I’m in love with Tutti Rouge – their entire damn collection is to die for.
Flirty prints, luxurious materials, and bold colour combinations seem to be the brands trademark – not to mention the bubbly models, did people see how amazing Felicity Hayward looked when shooting for them earlier this year?
Despite this love, it took me a while to take the plunge and actually buy a set! They aren’t stocked at my go to place for bras & there weren’t many reviews out there for me to gage my fit more accurately. Thankfully, Fuller Figure Fuller Bust start reviewing the range and hey presto, I had an idea of the fit & quality.
Top on my list was the Jessica – known for it’s illegal cleavage! The plunge cups means this is really a perfect set for the upcoming party season where v-neck dresses will be worn a-plenty.
The bra comes with 2 sets of pads that you can slip into a handy pouch concealed in the cup of the bra. The pads act to lift your chest and create that famed illegal cleavage.
All pictures here are taken without the boost as I prefer a more natural look – but I will be using them when it comes to those plunging party dress and I can definitely say the pads make an impact!
I’m wearing the bra in a 36GG and it fits very well without the pads – however, I probably should have sized up to a H for when adding the pads as they do cause a minimal amount of over spillage.
That said, the bra is very supportive. The wiring sits flat against my chest and the wide back band means the bra is comfy enough for everyday wear – so many deep plunge bras are just that little bit too uncomfortable to be wearing daily in the office but this one has become a staple of my weekly wardrobe.
The band fastens with a 3 hook closure and the straps are fully adjustable with the cutest little golden hearts acting as the hinge.
I’m wearing the matching brazilian briefs in an XL. These are a little tight on me and I would have preferred to size up to the XXL which I think would encase my love handles a little better.
Sheer bottom panties have always amused me but why do brands have to include a label? This has since been removed!
Without the booster pads, the bra gives a nice rounded shape to my boobs with a subtle hint of cleavage.
I really love the dotted mesh and the lace but what really makes this bra stand out aesthetically is the quirky details incorporated into so many parts of the bra, pants, and suspender belt; the golden heart clasps, the little red roses, and the hanging gems are all completely adorable!
I also bought the deep waisted suspender belt that matches this set – this was an XL and fitted me perfectly but a lack of un-laddered stockings prevents me from wearing it for these pictures. I can promise that is is quite special and the XL fits me perfectly – it sits higher on the tummy than the briefs where I am naturally smaller in circumference.
The bra is priced as £38 which to me is perfectly reasonable given the quality of fit and the playful details. Briefs are £20 & the suspender belt is £24. I don’t regret spending any of these pennies in the slightest!
