Does anyone else feel a bit like Amazon Prime Day is the abyss — there’s way too much stuff on sale and the only way to find stuff to get excited about is to dig, dig, dig (or ignore, ignore, ignore)? I fell into the first trap of digging and thought I’d share a few of the deals that I’m noticing and getting for myself and my family — what are you guys getting?

Pictured at top: bag / dress / sunscreen / laptop bag (in other fun colors too)

How about you guys — are you finding any good deals in the Amazon Prime Day sales?

With Prime Day taking place today and tomorrow (Prime Days, really), we thought this would be a great time to round up some Amazon house brands that are worth a look — especially because you can save up to 50% on them right now. Amazon probably has more brands than you think — this recent BuzzFeed News article lists dozens, and their offerings range from denim to formalwear to activewear. (It’s difficult — and maybe impossible — to find an complete list of brands, clothing or otherwise, on Amazon’s website itself, but here’s a selection they’ve chosen to feature). What are your favorite Amazon house brands? Which have you tried and not liked? Do you buy items from Amazon’s non-clothing brands as well, e.g., Amazon Basics?

This post contains affiliate links and Corporette® may earn commissions for purchases made through links in this post. For more details see here. Thank you so much for your support!

Today we’re highlighting Lark & Ro, Paris Sunday, and Society New York, which all have workwear options available, but you may also want to take a look at these:

  • Amazon Essentials: a wide assortment of basics, from denim to tees to shorts to socks to underwear
  • Core 10: activewear, including running clothes, yoga wear, sports bras, jackets, etc. (Kat’s a fan of their leggings, which she says are thick, opaque, wash well, and have a pocket — here’s her Core 10 review.)
  • Daily Ritual: clothing with an emphasis on comfort — tops, sweaters, denim, outerwear, and more, made from jersey, terry, Tencel, cotton, and other soft fabrics
  • Ella Moon: bohemian chic vibe (think Free People clothing)
  • Hale: modern denim inspired by Adriano Goldschmied
  • Mae: loungewear, sleepwear, panties, and bralettes (similar to Free People loungewear)

Make sure to check out our reviews of Prime Wardrobe and Fakespot.com, (a tool to analyze Amazon’s and other sites’ reviews for reliability).

Lark & Ro

pictured above: one / two / three / four

Lark & Ro may be Amazon’s most well-known women’s clothing brand. It sells dresses, tops, pants, sweaters, and outerwear (mainly dresses, however), and plus and petite sizes are included. Like a lot of Amazon house brands, customer reviews have been mixed, but many items have earned a lot of praise, and we’ve featured a few things on Corporette in the past, including this plus-size cap-sleeve wrap dress and this pleated fit-and-flare dress (both still available!).

Paris Sunday

pictured above: one / two / three / four

Paris Sunday has a more casual feel than Lark & Ro but still includes suitable workwear, especially if you work in a business casual or creative office. A lot of the pieces are definitely best suited for the weekend, however. Paris Sunday mostly focuses on dresses and tops, tends to have shorter hemlines than Lark & Ro (or alternately, midi lengths), and does not have petite or plus sizes.

Society New York

pictured above: one / two / three / four

Society New York has a lot of basic, office-friendly looks — lots of tops and dresses, and some sweaters and skirts (but barely any pants, for some reason). Some plus-size styles are available. The brand offers several bags, too, such as this black tote for $49.

Which Amazon brands do you like to shop? Do you have any specific pieces to recommend? How have you found Amazon’s sizing and quality?

Early Access to The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale just started for cardholders! If you’re unfamiliar with the sale, do check out our guide — the 411 is that fall merchandise is being marked down early, for a limited time; prices will go back up after the sale ends. I did some early picks from the 2019 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale earlier today, but this is a fuller view of what’s good in the sale. The big news is that there’s a TON of great dresses for work under $100 in the NAS19 — as well as some other really splurge-worthy blazers, dresses, and suits. Readers, what are you liking in the sale this year? Are you excited for anything in particular?  What do you think of our Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2019 Early Picks?

Some early notes on what to look for:

Stuff NOT Part of the NAS 2019 That You May Want to Consider Anyway

Nordstrom is renowned for its free shipping and great return policy — so even though these brands aren’t a big part of the sale, you may want to consider taking a look anyway if you’re placing an order…

Early Access to The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale JUST started for cardholders a few minutes ago! If you’re unfamiliar with the sale, do check out our guide — the short story is that fall merchandise is being marked down early, for a limited time; prices will go back up after the sale ends. I’m going to be poking through the sale in more detail later today, but I pulled out some early picks that I liked for work, as well as some beauty deals that I think are at high risk for selling out… Readers, what are you liking in the sale this year? Are you excited for anything in particular?  What do you think of our Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2019 Early Picks?

Beauty Deals in the 2019 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale That May Sell Out Fast

Beauty deals are some of the first ones to go, so if you’ve had your eye on a T3 hairdryer or some reader favorites like Dior Lip Glow, take a spin through those first. I’d particularly recommend paying attention to brands like Sunday Riley, ghd, LANCER, Paula’s Choice, Living Proof, NARS, Dior, Charlotte Tilbury — see my reviews of Sunday Riley Good Genes, Dior Lip Glow, and NARS Afterglow Orgasm Lip Balm … I don’t think I’ve written a review of it but I really love LANCER’s Radiance Awakening Mask, and it is super pricey by itself; this set is a great deal.

It can be hard to find workwear in tall sizes — many big brands don’t seem to consider women over 5’8″! — so today we’re sharing the best stores for tall women. When you’re short like me, it’s usually easy to have a tailor shorten pants, sleeves, etc., on clothing that doesn’t come in petite sizes (although it’s not ideal), but when you’re tall, the solution isn’t that simple. It’s been quite a while since we last talked about tall workwear in general (although we’ve shared suits for tall women and bespoke dresses for the office), so let’s discuss.

Here are the best stores for tall women, which happily includes some reader-favorite stores:

And here are readers’ suggestions for suiting without tall sizes that still works well for tall women:

Also, do note stores specializing in bespoke clothing or custom sizes made for you:

Readers, what do you think are the best stores for tall women? Where do you buy business attire in tall sizes? Which workwear brands do you WISH offered tall sizes?

I may not have gotten this done yesterday, but from what I’m seeing the Friday sales are even better than the sales on the actual Fourth. Here’s what the landscape is right now for sales for workwear — has anyone been shopping this weekend? Some of the first sales I would hit include Nordstrom, MM.LaFleur (having a very rare summer sale), Soma, and both Ann Taylor and Ann Taylor Factory. What great sales are you finding?

  • 6PM.com – Annual summer clearance, up to 80% off MSRP! And they’re offering free shipping through July 6. Featured clearance brands include Cole Haan, Sam Edelman, Nine West, Tory Burch and more!
  • Ann Taylor – The July Fourth sale! 60% off select full-price styles, and extra 60% off all sale styles.
  • Ann Taylor Factory – 50-70% off your purchase (excluding first look and clearance) and an extra 15% off with code July 4th! For those of you who love collarless jackets this one comes to under $50, readers were just singing the praises of this elevated tee for work, and this previously featured wrap dress (one of our most-bought items from last month) is still available in green and gray floral
  • Anthropologie – Summer tag sale! Now an extra 50% off sale; all sales final.
  • Banana Republic – Sales styles extra 50% off, 40% off regular-priced styles for women! Sister site Athleta is offering an extra 20% off all sale items, Old Navy’s clearance is up to 75% off (and take an extra 20% off your order!), and Gap is offering 40-75% off 1000s of styles.
  • Banana Republic Factory – 60% off entire site! Extra 50% off clearance.
  • Boden – Further reductions, up to 60% off in their big sale! (Don’t forget to check out our recent roundup of what to buy in the big Boden sale!)
  • Brooks Brothers – Additional 25% off already reduced summer sale styles! The Red Fleece Collection is 25% off.
  • Express – Up to 50% off everything, plus take an extra 50% off clearance!
  • J.Crew – 40% off full-price styles + extra 50% off sale styles.
  • J.Crew Factory – 60-70% off, online only!
  • Last Call – Extra 30-75% off tons!
  • Loft – 60% off all sale styles!
  • MM.LaFleur – Summer sale! Prices go from $12-$297.
  • Neiman Marcus – Up to 75% off select women’s styles, and up to 70% off men’s and accessories.
  • Nordstrom – 5309 new markdowns — and they’ve got a new feature on their favorite looks from the upcoming Anniversary Sale!
  • Reiss – Extra 20% off!
  • Soma – Up to 80% off! $9.99 bras, $19.99 dresses and more!

This is our latest in an occasional series on weekend clothes with a specific personality — see all the posts in the series here. Today: how to get the preppy look.

As a reminder, there was an old book Kat had where the author (90s-era CNN style commentator Elsa Klensch) talked about how “[m]any successful businesswomen I know tap into their private visions of themselves and express that inner being in their weekend wear. … On weekends, I want to be softer, more romantic. My fantasy in the summer is to look as though I just stepped out of an F. Scott Fitzgerald novel wearing Gatsby-style long skirts and gently flowing chiffon scarves.”

Accordingly, we thought it might be fun to round up different stores selling “weekend vibe” clothes in different personalities for our ongoing Weekend Wednesdays series. After all, we’ve talked in the past about the weekend you vs. the weekday you — as well as sharing our best tips for upgrading your weekend clothes and cultivating style in general. We’ve taken a look in the past at how to get the boho look and tough girl chic — and especially now that the warm weather is here, it’s the perfect time to take a look at the best brands to shop for preppy clothes. More so than the previous two looks, preppy styles are more likely to do double-duty as weekend wear and workwear (with limits, of course), so many of the brands below are good bets for both.

Building Blocks for the Preppy Look  3 of the Best Brands for the Preppy Look  Lilly Pulitzer

pictured above: one / two / three / four

It makes sense to start with Lilly Pulitzer, the designer known as the “Queen of Prep.” The brand is known for bright, colorful floral/tropical prints, and their offerings include beachwear and resortwear. Here’s the story behind those prints, from Pulitzer’s 2013 obituary: “A rich housewife with time to spare and a husband who owned orange groves, she opened a juice stand in 1959, and asked her seamstress to make dresses in colorful prints that would camouflage fruit stains” (as you do). Lilly Pulitzer pieces are perfect for vacations, baby showers and the like, and brunches — you’ll look like you should have a mimosa in your hand. (The bright colors are so fun that as a totally non-preppy person, I bought this one a few years ago.) You can find tons of Lilly clothes and accessories at Nordstrom and Zappos, as well as the brand’s website.

1901

pictured above: one / two / three / four

Nordstrom says that its 1901 brand brings the classics up to date in a “reimagined mix of heritage pieces with American prep vibes.” (Second new fact for today, besides that orange juice origin story above: Nordstrom opened its first store in … yes, 1901.) The line does feature lots and lots of preppy elements from the “building blocks” above: florals, stripes, seersucker, gingham, polka dots, bows, Madras… in addition to some random graphic tees (because who doesn’t need a t-shirt that screams “BRUNCH” across the front, amirite?). You can find fun dresses, basic button-front shirts, some tanks and tees, classic blazers, preppy jumpsuits, shoes, and more. The line is pretty affordable — prices range from $14.50 (sale price) to $149 — and, bonus, 1901 offers petites and plus sizes (up to 24, which the site likens to a 22W).

Tory Burch

pictured above: one / two / three / four

Here’s some great ming: ToryBurch.com is having a semi-annual sale right now — up to 60% off, and an extra 25% off sale with code EXTRA. You can also find Tory Burch at Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdale’s, and Zappos. The brand (whose popularity is part of the reason Tory Burch is a billionaire) is a great choice for feminine pieces with lots of stripes, florals, and other preppy patterns, occasionally accented with details such as ruffles, scalloped edges, embroidery, etc. Be sure to also check out the bags and shoes (we featured the brand in our best work bags and comfortable flats for summer posts), as well as other accessories. And since this is a Weekend Wednesday post, we must direct you to the brand’s fun, pretty swimsuits. (Note that Tory Burch clothing is pricier than the first two featured brands.)

How about you, readers — what do you think are the best brands to shop for preppy clothes? Do you consider your style to be preppy, or far from it?

There’s a ton of cute stuff for really affordable prices (up to 50% off) in the Boden sale… some quick picks are below! Note that lots of their thick, stretchy ottoman dresses come down to under $100, and the green jacquard dress pictured above has sleeves, pockets, is machine washable, and is only $60. (W0w.) There are lots of cute blouses for work under $50, as well.

For busy working women, the suit is often the easiest outfit to throw on in the morning. In general, this feature is not about interview suits for women, which should be as classic and basic as you get — instead, this feature is about the slightly different suit that is fashionable, yet professional.

Brooks Brothers is having a big sale today, with prices up to 50% off their suiting — so big savings if you like their conservative, preppy styles. The pictured suit blazer was $498; pants were $298, the skirt was $228; all of that comes down 50%, with regular and petites available in sizes 0-16. Nice! I’ve rounded up a few more quick picks from the sale, below…

So: MAJOR sales afoot at Neiman Marcus, particularly if you like slightly fancier clothes (in the $300-$600 range) but prefer to pay $100-$300 for them. (They have a lot of other great discounts on fancier designers as well!) As always, Neiman Marcus is offering free shipping and free returns; if you happen to have a Neiman Marcus credit card you can order Triple Points. I’d recommend starting with big workwear brands like Boss, Elie Tahari, Lafayette 148 New York, Majestic Paris, Nic + Zoe, Rebecca Taylor, Theory, and Vince, and filtering by size.
