Why am I doing this?
When I decided to take content creating on Instagram seriously, I had hit so many obstacles and these obstacles were definitely discouraging. I had given up within three months of starting. Now, here I am. 50K strong, verified, a healthy & happy insta-space, dope experiences, new great friendships and more. I’m not celebrating Instagram, I am celebrating my growth, my resilience, my ability to start at A and end at Z. I am celebrating having a goal and reaching it, beating that goal upside its head with all my hard work! Every goal, no matter how big or small deserves a celebration, so here we are, CELEBRATING!
This December (2018) in Nigeria, I threw a “Chillin With Chi Style Brunch.” With everyone being in Nigeria in December, I thought it would be a great idea to put together a style brunch, bringing bloggers, influencers, fashion lovers, stylists and like minded people together to meet, connect and collaborate. This style brunch pushed the initiative of “collaboration over competition!”
I can not count the number of questions I get about how to explore Lagos. Lemme start off by saying, Lagos isn’t for the weak, lol. I’m joking but I’m also being serious. Maneuvering through Lagos isn’t easy, traffic will always be your enemy, but if you’re someone that plans out their day in advance, you can make Lagos your playground!
Lagos in December is an annual thing for most people. Everyone from everywhere is flying to Lagos, and because of this tickets prices are ridiculously high, no matter how much in advance you purchase them. The prices on those flights is usually the main reason why some people don’t make it. But I am really happy to introduce and put you guys on to Layaway Tickets . Layaway Tickets, is exactly what it sounds like, you put your flight ticket on layaway! Which means you can book now and pay later for your flights to anywhere in the world. With their flight plans you can book your flight and pay in bi-weekly or monthly installments. And the best part about it is that they price match! I think the concept is amazing and will open the door to traveling for people who have a budget that they stick to. So for my fellow Nigerians in diaspora that would like to go to Lagos in December, this is a great way to go about it. Head to https://www.layawaytickets.com/ for more info or to book a flight!
Lagos in December before use to mostly focus on partying from sun up to sun down but now with some many new developments in Lagos, people really want to explore and try hot new places. Below is the run down on locations, food and self care options I went to. All I ask after reading this blog is to please share with me a place in Lagos you’d recommend I try on my next trip!
Nike Art Gallery
Nike Art Gallery has an abundance of beautiful art. It’s a great stop for art lovers. The alligator made out of tires, that sits right outside the entrance has become insta-famous.
Alara Lagos in my opinion is the most beautifully made store in Lagos. It’s a luxury clothing/ shoe store so its a great stop for fashion lovers. You can snap a pic anywhere because everywhere is beautiful.
The Blowfish Hotel
The Blowfish Hotel is pretty in pink hotel. You guys know I am an ambassador for the color pink so the hotel immediately won over my heart. The pool area is a great location for hanging out and having a refreshing Chapman.
Balogun Market is like Target but next level because you can’t buy a puppy at Target, lol. You can find almost anything at this market to buy. Its a great opportunity for candid images of the locals. I don’t advise going to Balogun alone because it is ridiculously crowded. Go with someone who knows the area and how to bargain for the best price on things. And remember, everything is negotiable!
Pots On Admiratly Road
If you’re on the island often and you go through Lekki phase 1 main gate, how often have you drove past these pots on admiralty road? Very Often! This is great example of opening to your eyes to the beauty of what Lagos is. You can tell a story with a photo almost anywhere.
The first time I picked up one box of the Always Radiant & one box Tampax Radiant collection, it was simply because the box was pink, lol. You guys know I gravitate to anything pink and so far pink hasn’t led me astray. It led me to the Radiant collection, which I’ve stuck with for years now. Aside from the cuteness of the packaging, the products are actually comfortable and keep me protected for hours throughout the day.
For as long as I’ve been noting down when my period comes in my calendar, there are times it comes earlier than planned. Like the time I competed for Miss NY USA 2015. After six months of preparing heavy for the pageant, my period tried to undo all my hard work. I had of course already calculated when my period would arrive but it decided to visit 3 days in advance. I was freaking out with a capital F. Doing a pageant is hard, and having your period accompany you during your competition makes it 10 times harder. I spent the weekend trying to wrap anxiety and cramps into a pretty bow. Most of my anxiety came from fear that my period might cause an accident while I was on stage. My evening gown was yellow and my swimsuit was peach. Both colors, that would lose in a battle against red. I needed products I would count on to hold me down during rehearsals, interview and most importantly on stage performance. That’s where the Radiant collection comes in. It gave me the confidence to #WearWhatIWant during the competition. I asked my sister to buy a box of pads and tampons from the Radiant collection to help me get through the weekend. I wore Tampax tampons while on stage and Always pads during interview and rehearsals. They were the dream team I needed for the weekend. I am more of pads girl and Always pads are very comfortable, they’re thin, which I love so it doesn’t feel like you’re wearing a diaper and at the same time they absorbed leakage very well. I didn’t win the pageant that day but getting through the weekend made me a winner.
I love Always & Tampax because I can depend on them every month, but now I’ve been given another reason to love them. Always & Tampax are spreading Black Girl Magic across HBCU campuses with their Radiant Dance Off Contest. All majorette teams at HBCUs are encouraged to submit their show-stopping routines to RadiantDanceOff.com for a chance to win $20,000 and the costumes of their dreams. I’m always busting one move or another on my Instagram stories so you know I love a good dance off. You can get in on the action by voting on your favorite majorette dance team at RadiantDanceOff.com
Monochromes looks are what I specialize in but it is without a doubt not easy to find pieces from different brands that are the identical shade. But with this lilac loving look, I hit the nail on the head. Enjoy the images! And info on the outfit below!
Spring is the season for blooming and I’ve been patiently waiting for Cherry Blossoms to bloom at The Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. At one point I was almost certain Spring wasn’t going to come this year because the weather has been giving us L’s after L’s. But at last, May proved me wrong with our first 80 degree weather day in NYC. If you haven’t made it to Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, now is the time to go. The flowers are the most gorgeous this time of the year!
All my images were taken with my new Google Pixel 2, which I absolutely love! The photo quality is out of this world! All the details on my outfit are below!
Top: Anne Fontaine specializes in giving the classic white button up a new twist. I fell in love with the sleeves of this top and how the placement of the zipper snatched my waist in all the right areas! You can check out all their white top at www.AnneFontaine.com. Link directly to my top is here.
