The Niwot High School Counseling Department created this blog to provide students and parents with readily-available information pertaining to students' academic, social/emotional, and college/career success.
For the 2018-19 school year, there will be two changes to our counseling department. First, St. Vrain Valley Schools recently announced funding for an additional counselor for every comprehensive high school in the school district. Second, Aimee Brown has accepted a new job opportunity as a school counselor at Lyons Middle Senior High School.
Leah Messinger has been hired as our newest team member to replace Mrs. Brown. Mrs. Messinger has experience as a school counselor in our district and is coming to us from Timberline PK-8. She completed her counseling practicum at Niwot High School and is a Niwot Alumnae. We are very excited to have her join our team!
Our counseling and leadership team is still in the process of hiring our additional counselor. St. Vrain Valley Schools attracts many highly-qualified candidates, and we are sure we will find a great school counselor to support our students.
Because of the additional counselor, the student assignments have shifted slightly. Our student-to-counselor ratio will be much lower which will allow our school counselors to better serve our students with both academic and social/emotional needs. This ratio will be within the recommended guidelines of the American School Counselors Association and almost half the national average.
