Cheating has never been as fun as it is at Irvine’s deliciously interactive pop-up museum, Cheat Day Land! The ultimate celebration of food and art, Cheat Day Land is all about treating yourself with a cheat day. This immersive museum creates a sensory experience that enables you to become part of the mouthwatering art and release your inner child.
From now until the end of August, you can gather your friends, your family, and your appetite to experience junk food-inspired installations that offer you the chance to play and capture the moment! Loosen your belts, because your cheat day has begun at the Irvine Spectrum Center.
Cheat Day Land is the brainchild of Rubi
Rymehmy, her sister, and her three brothers. In 2017, Rubi experienced her
first pop-up museum in Japan. Inspired by the creativity and innovation of
immersion art, she and her siblings worked tirelessly to give life to this
fantastic exhibition, becoming the first Latinos to open a pop-up museum. But
their vision doesn’t stop at simply displaying scrumptious food; they want
Cheat Day Land to serve as a platform to inspire others to dream big and work
hard to create a better world for themselves and others. As the family’s
biggest contribution to their community, this museum artistically and
inspirationally brings people together from around the globe to create a space
to experience art and truly connect with it.
With guided tours lasting 60-90 minutes, Cheat
Day Land takes attendees on a delectable adventure through rooms filled with
all your favorite foods. From donuts, to chocolate, to cereal, there’s no
shortage of photo ops that will inspire your social media followers to chow
down. The first rooms you’ll explore feature the classic junk food staples:
fries, cheeseburgers, wings, hot dogs, soda, burritos, and even a giant pizza
mural. If your mouth is already watering, then just wait until you enter the
room dedicated to the most tantalizing dessert ever created: chocolate. Because
what’s a cheat day without chocolate?
Then you can climb on the donut rock wall as you make your way to the donut swings, then relax in a giant donut box. You donut want to miss out on that! Visit the pancake room and bounce on a frying-pan-inspired trampoline like a flapjack. Wear your food as you take a pic behind cell bars, in front of a trippy black and white illusion. Dive into a giant bowl of cereal filled to the brim with bouncy balls, foam letters, and a gigantic spoon. The best part? At the end of the tour you’ll be offered complimentary ChEAT Day samples. These vary every day, so you never know what you’ll get!
Come treat yourself to a cheat day, because
you deserve it. Get your tickets to Cheat Day Land today!
This past weekend was busy with some exciting fandom events on both the East and West coasts. Halo: Outpost Discovery Orlando and Anime Expo 2019 were in full swing, and our Event Operations experts were there every step of the way! Continue reading to learn about some of our favorite memories and noteworthy highlights from these events.
I had a great time at the Los Angeles Convention Center as we collaborated with our partners at Anime Expo 2019! The days were busy while we set up and broke down the box office, provided scanners and scanning assistance at various event rooms, and facilitated box office training and troubleshooting. We brought along a bunch of new printers for this event to ensure the box office ran super smoothly. Our Anime Expo partners were thrilled we put so much attention to the hardware needed, and were grateful they did not need to focus extra time from their busy show-day schedules on the box office, which was a huge relief for them!
I loved watching the cosplayers interact together at the convention as they complimented each other, asked questions, and helped each other with cosplay fixes. All of the cosplays were super impressive and had great attention to detail. My favorite cosplayers were the little kids who were too cute for words! There were also two people dressed as Pikachu and they pretended to wrestle in the lobby, which was a hilarious sight. Overall, it was a great energy to interact with!
During last year’s event, temperatures soared over 100 degrees, but thankfully this year the weather was a bit more manageable. That being said, we experienced two earthquakes while on-site, and most of our team originates from the east coast, so it was a bit scary for us. Our partners at Anime Expo called us immediately to make sure we were OK – it was a top priority for them, knowing most of us hadn’t felt an earthquake before!
It was great working with such a joyous and truly excited team. They keep the air light, even when things are busy and we have a lot going on, and they’re genuinely sweet people. I look forward to Anime Expo 2020!
Halo: Outpost Discovery Orlando – Sam Smith, Event Operations Specialist
Halo: Outpost Discovery made its first stop in sunny Orlando this past weekend, and I was on-site to help ensure an amazing event! Our duties included on-site registration, box office sales, and will call. This setup allowed us to work smoothly and ensured all of the Halo fans were welcomed quickly and efficiently to the Halo: Outpost Discovery event floor.
Every corner of the Orange County Convention Center provided entertainment and really brought the Halo Universe to life. My favorite was the laser tag Combat Deck. This simulated what it is really like to be within the Halo games, and brought out some friendly competition between the participants!
Attendees also really enjoyed seeing the game’s voice actors up close and personal. They were able to chat with the personalities and even get autographs. It was delightful to watch the loyal Halo fans’ faces light up when they got a chance to interact with the people who help bring some of their favorite games to life. You could tell the fans were enjoying every bit of it!
Our partners were great to work with on-site, and it was a successful event for the first stop of the Halo: Outpost Discovery tour. I am looking forward to Philadelphia’s Halo: Outpost Discovery!
Fandom event organizers have plenty of competition these days, so it’s important to get the word out early and often about what makes your show absolutely unmissable! IGTV’s (Instagram TV’s) ability to host more lengthy video content than a typical Instagram video (up to 10 minutes for most accounts, and up to an hour for larger and verified accounts) means you can share some truly engaging video content to create buzz around your event.
Our event marketing experts have put together a list of four simple ways fandom event organizers can start to put IGTV to use throughout each stage of their event marketing strategy, so read on, and get those phones ready!
Last year’s content
Start your event marketing strategy strong, building up anticipation for what’s in store at your upcoming fandom event by sharing videos of exclusive content from last year’s convention. IGTV enables you to share both vertical and horizontal video content that’s been previously used for other purposes, so put the footage you already have from last year’s most exclusive panels and sessions to good use, and start spreading the excitement for what’s to come!
Regularly scheduled announcements
Publicize a regularly scheduled monthly (or weekly) IGTV video release in which you share new information about show programming, celebrity guests, newly added exhibitors, and more. You’ll have a consistent audience as fans will come to expect exciting news as the convention nears, and you can use this opportunity to encourage your followers to spread the word about your event!
Interviews with top guests
Once your guest lineup starts filling up, spread the word about your comic con, gaming expo, or anime fandom event by posting a series of interviews or fan-sourced question-and-answer sessions with your top celebrity guests. IGTV’s longer video format is perfect for interview content that may otherwise be too long for a typical Instagram video. Fans will be thrilled to engage with some of their favorite creators and celebs, and the potential for viral sharing means more users will be exposed to your event!
As event day approaches and your team is putting the finishing touches on the venue, welcome your followers on an in-depth preview of the convention floor and share some behind-the-scenes snippets from exhibitors to put your fans’ FOMO into overdrive! As an added benefit, use this opportunity to give fans a sneak peek of the admissions process to ensure everything goes smoothly for those determined to be first through the doors.

Revelry reigns and shenanigans abound at the Bristol Renaissance Faire, open every weekend from July 6 through Labor Day Monday! Voted “Best Renaissance Faire” for the eighth consecutive year in 2018, Bristol Renaissance Faire is one of the most inclusive places on Earth. Modern-day cosplayers, hipsters, families, and singles all have one thing in common: they have come to escape their 21st century reality in favor of a carefree, joyful day mixing with jousting knights, saucy wenches, regal ladies, and the court of a beautiful and gracious queen.
Oh So Family-Friendly!
The Bristol Renaissance Faire has been voted among the top ten family-friendly faires in the country for the past eight years! Children will love the Kids’ Kingdom, which is more than an acre of fantasy playground and entertainment. Plus, for added convenience, inside Kids’ Kingdom is an air-conditioned Nursing Room with electrical outlets available for pumps. KidsQuest, a 30 minute adventure for ages 4-10, is available every Faire day! Picky eaters will find full menus of pizza, chicken nuggets, hot dogs, and mac & cheese bites throughout the Faire as well! Children aged 12 and under are admitted free on July 6 and 7, children aged four and under are admitted free every day, and scouts, leaders, and their families receive discount admission on August 24 and 25.
A Fabulous Feast Prepared for You
Vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, and traditionalists will all find something for them at the Faire! More than thirty food purveyors dot the Faire site, tempting guests with the flavors of the Mediterranean including falafel, hummus, and baklava; of England including fish and chips, meat pies, brats, and bangers; and dozens of delectable bites in a category best described as foodie-centric, such as chocolate covered strawberries, coconut shrimp, artichokes, garlic mushrooms, and grilled pineapple with chocolate sauce. And, for many, the star of the Renaissance Faire feast menu is the iconic and epically-sized roasted turkey legs! Tea, lemonade, slushies, water, and Pepsi products are available throughout the Faire, along with a variety of seasonal, flavored ciders, mead, hard seltzers, micro-brews, imported beers, and wine. And, don’t miss Green Angel Kaffee Haus serving espresso, cappuccino, chai, iced mocha, and a variety of desserts daily!
Experience Mind-Blowing Entertainment
Every weekend from July 6 through Labor Day Monday, attendees will enjoy a rotating cast of exceptional performances. Watch the world catch fire with Adam Crack: Fire Whip, who holds seven Guinness Book World Records and encourages a blaze of audience participation. Watch Lauryn Murray of Aerial Silk Fantasy nimbly climb silk banners and dance above your heads in the tree tops! And sing along with Rambling Sailors, the new effort by performers Gregga and Susan Csikos that aims to bring traditional sea music, history, and stories to the stage in the style that inspired generations of sailors to go to sea. And, don’t miss the Faire’s perennial favorites: The Jousters, Broon, and Dirk and Guido!
Explore the Artisan Marketplace
Unleash your inner daredevil at The Pirate’s Assault Catapult, take aim with knife and axe throwing, test your skills during fencing tournaments, and so much more! Then, explore the Artisan Marketplace for hand-made treasures including perfumes, exquisite jewelry, leather wares, musical instruments, local honey, soaps, flower crowns, and so much more. You can even check out exclusive diverse wares, like Danny Boy Pipes, Cigars a la Carte, or gourmet garlic-based cooking at the Garlic Festival Shop. Be sure to check out the full official list!
Mark Your Calendars for Special Events and Theme Weekends
If you’re looking for an even more niche experience, plan your trip around the theme weekend of your choice. There’s something for everyone, whether you go during the Monsters & Magic weekend, Heroes & Villains weekend, or for RennCon, a convention experience unlike anything you’ve ever seen before that includes cosplay photo meetups, panels, special guests, and more.
If you find yourself hankering for a drink, you’ll not only have the opportunity to spend all day in the Faire enjoying the food and sights, you’ll also be able to go on a guided tour of the Faire’s finest pubs! Meet other medieval enthusiasts as you travel to four different pubs, receiving a complimentary beverage at each location. But be warned: the Pub Crawl is very popular, so please be sure to book your tour in advance!
As a whole, our Marketing team is responsible for a wide variety of duties, each supporting the primary goals of connecting ticket buyers with our partners’ events and demonstrating our powerful tools and services to new potential partners. Today we’ll chat with David Kennedy, our Senior Marketing Specialist, who works to support our partners and our sales team through a variety of avenues including social media, blog and website content, ad campaigns, and much more.
David is a Pittsburgh-area native who realized from an early age that he wanted to be involved in the entertainment industry in one form or another. After searching for the educational path that best suited his career aspirations, David enrolled in Point Park University’s Sports, Arts and Entertainment Management major, eventually graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree. While in school, David grew his skills with several internship opportunities in various aspects of the Pittsburgh live event community, including positions in sponsorship at Live Nation, PR and engagement for a local producer of live performance videos, and marketing at local music venue Stage AE. It was through these internships that David learned his strengths, and decided the marketing field was where he would excel.
After joining the ShowClix team in 2015 as part of our Customer Care department, David quickly made his desire to assist in our marketing initiatives known. Before long, he became a full-time member of our Marketing team, and eventually earned the title of Senior Marketing Specialist. Today, David continues to support each of our internal marketing goals by managing our social media presence, blog content, paid search campaigns, and public relations activities, as well as working alongside our Sales team, Client Services team, and the rest of the Marketing team to support quite a few other initiatives and goals company-wide.
What does a typical work week look like for you as a Senior Marketing Specialist?
As just about anyone in this industry will say, most work weeks are far from typical. That being said, there are quite a few regular duties I attend to each week. Every Monday I submit that week’s social media content schedule to our VP of Marketing for approval, and ensure each post is shared in a timely manner throughout the week. Then, I’ll spend time each day monitoring inbound lead submissions within Salesforce, keeping an eye on our Google Ads paid search campaigns, and checking my emails from partners, coworkers, and third-party service reps. I also work with our Marketing Intern, Erin, each week to engage with and promote our partner events via our website and social profiles, monitor our SEO performance, and more. On any given day, though, so much else could be going on – trade show preparation, special event organization, press release management – there’s never a dull moment!
You first joined our team as one of our Customer Care Representatives, then made the transition into Marketing. How do you think that experience working with our customers one-on-one helps you in your current role?
On a daily basis I am interacting with countless partner events, whether it be connecting on social media, organizing a blog post, managing website placement, or otherwise. Having an understanding of each event vertical as a result of years of actually supporting those events via phone and email is incredibly useful in being able to speak to and about each partner in a personalized way. Customer support provides so many unique insights that you couldn’t even imagine without actually experiencing it for yourself!
As you know, Marketing is a broad field that offers opportunities in everything from social media, to SEO, to email marketing. What advice do you have for those who know they’re interested in Marketing, but are unsure of which specialty to pursue?
Internships are so incredibly helpful in getting an actual snapshot of what a particular career path entails. I took so many unpaid, seasonal, and temporary positions to get a feel for each aspect of the industry before I was able to really identify where my strengths lie. While these options may not exist for everyone, I would highly suggest searching for any opportunity to get real world experience, as there are so many things a classroom just can’t emulate.
What are some tools you use to help you in your day-to-day duties?
Slack is a tool I use daily to stay connected with members of the Marketing department, our Sales and Client Services teams, and members of other Patron Technology product teams who don’t work in our office. In terms of day-to-day social media management, Hootsuite is also very helpful in scheduling posts throughout the week. Also, it might sound a bit dated, but a simple to-do list on a notepad does wonders for keeping things organized. Plus, there’s nothing more satisfying that being able to physically cross something off that list!
You’ve been to tons of live music events over the years, either behind the scenes or as an attendee. What’s one of the most memorable experiences you’ve had?
When I was interning at Stage AE, I spontaneously ended up being part of a large group of people dancing on stage as MC Hammer performed “U Can’t Touch This” at a Halloween party. It was memorable to say the least.

After spending months preparing for your festival by securing vendors and entertainment, optimizing your marketing campaigns, and navigating through on-sales, the last thing you want is an admissions strategy that leaves your attendees waiting too long to enter your event. With a streamlined admissions process, you’ll ensure your attendees get through the gate quickly and safely, and that your festival is a hit from start to finish!
Our Event Operations experts have put together five key factors to consider when planning a successful festival admissions strategy.
Utilize your historical ticketing and admissions data to help gauge what resources you need for your next festival. Look at last year’s attendance, staffing, average queue wait times, and attendee reviews to see what aspects could be adjusted. Then, use projected sales data to determine if your festival is on track to have more or fewer attendees than previous years. If you’re expecting larger crowds, for example, you should consider opening multiple gates from various entry points, then breaking them down later in the event as you see fit.
Ensuring your entire team has the most accurate, updated information during your event will not only cut down on confusion among your staff, but will also ensure your attendees are getting the information they need as quickly as possible, keeping wait times to a minimum. Implement a single communication channel to be used by all staff members day-of, like walkie-talkies or a mobile communication app such as Slack or Lua. You may also benefit from establishing a clear staff hierarchy, so if any team member has questions, they know exactly who to go to for support.
Whether your festival is expecting several hundred attendees, or tens of thousands, there is essential admissions equipment you’re guaranteed to need on-site, like ticket scanners, computers, printers, credit card swipes, power strips, and even backup generators. Check if your venue has existing on-site internet infrastructure as well. If not, you should invest in multiple hotspots from various carriers to ensure a strong, consistent WiFi connection. You’ll also need to decide if you want to print physical receipts or send email receipts to walk-up customers, if you’ll validate pre-purchased tickets through handheld scanners or computer stations, and more.
Proper line management is essential to keeping the admissions process quick and painless. Be sure to clearly separate your lines with stanchions to maintain crowd control, and designate specific line types, like VIP, walk-up sales, and mobile tickets. If you anticipate utilizing multiple entrances, share the festival layout on your website and social media in advance, and be sure to designate staff members to direct attendees to the proper entrances on event day.
It’s important to make sure each wristband, badge, or ticket is a noticeably different color for each ticket type, so staff can easily differentiate various price levels, VIP packages, or single-day passes at a glance. Using wristbands as opposed to badges or tickets can also help prevent unpaid entry and ensures that attendees don’t pass off their premium packages to others who didn’t pay for it, since they can’t easily be taken off.

Did you know you can enable your customers to exchange their tickets for another time or day?
No matter how excited your customers are for your event, sometimes unforeseen circumstances can prevent them from attending at their originally selected date or time. In these cases, what can they do? In the past, ticket buyers may have needed to try to resell their tickets, appeal for a refund or new tickets, or eat the cost entirely and be forced to skip your event. But with our ticket exchanges tool, you can enable them to simply attend at a later time! Give your customers the freedom to autonomously exchange their previously purchased tickets for others of equal or lesser value for the same event. Not only will this feature give your ticket buyers peace of mind, it will also help you maximize event attendance and save valuable time by reducing call center volume and email requests.
To enable ticket exchanges for your customers, go to the Customers tab in the ShowClix Admin and select “Exchange Settings” on the left sidebar. From here you’ll be able to set rules, create custom messaging, and manage ticket exchange settings. When you select “Enable ticket exchanges,” you’ll add an option to exchange tickets onto your customers’ My Tickets accounts. You also have the option to limit the number of exchanges per order, set a window for when a customer can request an exchange (up to two days before the event, for example), and automatically approve valid exchange requests, so your customers receive their new tickets instantly. Then simply hit “Submit” to start offering ticket exchanges for your event!
For more information on ticket exchanges, feel free to check out our help article.
