Happy New Year! We’re thankful for all of your support in 2018 and we are excited about what 2019 has to bring. Through our blog this year, we want to share how music therapy can be beneficial for all ages and populations. There may also be some special personal stories. Florida State University has pioneered the use of music therapy with premature infants. For over 20 years, Dr. Jane Standley has been researching how music can impact these fragile babies. Dr. Standley has found that meaningful music can improve the babies’ health so much so that many of them are discharged earlier than those babies who do no receive music therapy. This music can come in the form of live music played by a music therapist or through a special pacifier called the PAL (seen in picture below.) Now, FSU and Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare are expanding the program beyond the hospital! Learn more about the program and how music therapy can benefit premature and fragile infants here.
