HBO has revealed a new trailer for the first season of the new upcoming epic, His Dark Materials, based on the bestselling trilogy of the same name written by Philip Pullman.

The series is set in an alternate reality not too dissimilar to the industrial age London, where humans have talking companions, called deamons, who also act as vessels for the souls of their owners.

His Dark Materials: Season 1 | San Diego Comic-Con Trailer | HBO - YouTube

The first season sees Logan actress, Dafne Keene, trying to unravel the mystery behind disappearing children, and the sudden departure of her uncle, Lord Asriel, played by James McAvoy, with the aid of an armoured polar bear.

Lin-Manuel Miranda and Ruth Wilson are playing the roles of Lee Scoresby and Mrs Coulter respectively.

This is the second attempt to bring the trilogy to the screen. The Golden Compass, a film adaption of the first book came to cinemas in 2007 with Daniel Craig as Asriel and Nicole Kidman as Mrs Coulter. The film scored a critic rating of 43% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The collaborative effort from HBO and BBC is due to air worldwide on HBO this fall with the BBC handling the UK release.

San Diego Comic Con was jam packed full of DC Comics announcements, particularly surrounding The CW’s Arrowverse. Here’s everything that was announced at the Arrowverse panels.

Arrow – Final Season

At The CW’s Arrowverse panel, the first trailer for Arrow‘s final season was revealed.

Arrow Comic-Con®️ 2019 Sizzle | The CW - YouTube

The trailer acts as an emotional recollection of all those whom Oliver Queen has loved and lost over the years, before showcasing the familiar faces he will encounter while fulfilling his commitment to the Monitor (in the Elseworlds crossover).

Arrow Season 8 will premiere on 15 October 2019.

Brandon Routh To Play Superman in Crisis on Infinite Earths Crossover

Hot off yesterday’s announcement that Brandon Routh was to reprise his role as Superman alongside Tyler Hoechlin in the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover, the actor today revealed that he will play the Kingdom Come Superman.

The actor, who first wore the suit and cape for Superman Returns, has been playing Ray Palmer (The Atom) in Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow.

Given the title of the Arrowverse cross-over and the existence of the multiverse, Routh’s casting as another Superman should come as no surprise, though it will be interesting to see how Routh’s Superman fairs alongside Hoechlin’s.

The Flash Season 6

DC Comics’ fastest man alive will return for another adventure. The trailer for The Flash season 6 was revealed at SDCC, which reveals what Team Flash gets up to in the wake of defeating two different versions of Cicada and losing Nora.

The Flash Comic-Con®️ 2019 Sizzle | The CW - YouTube

In the comics, Pariah is responsible for releasing the Anti-Monitor to the world.

Season 6 of The Flash will release on October 8th.

Supergirl Season 5

At the Supergirl panel at SDCC, The CW revealed the first look at Supergirl’s new suit, new cast announcements and the first trailer for season 5.

Supergirl Comic-Con®️ 2019 Sizzle | The CW - YouTube

According to reports, Supergirl will have an important part to play in the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover, so naturally, the new suit has been designed with that in mind.

Veronica Mars’ Julie Gonzalo and Game of Thrones alum, Staz Nair, will star in season 5. Gonzalo will play Andrea Rojas aka. Acrata, a DC comics character who is described as a “polished businesswoman and heir to a Central American tech empire” who’s unapologetic about who she is, but has “a mystical secret”.

Nair, on the other hand, will play William Dey, a cynic with ties to the criminal underworld, who looks down on Kara’s earnest idealism.

Season 5 of Supergirl will premiere on October 6th.

Batwoman

At Batwoman‘s inaugural panel at SDCC, The CW announced that Burt Ward, who played Robin in the 1960s Batman TV series, will appear in the Crisis on Infinite Earths five-part crossover event. Furthermore, season 1 of Batwoman will see the introduction of Tommy Elliot, who’s best known as the alter ego of the villain, Hush. The series is said to touch on Elliot’s backstory.

Batwoman showrunner, Caroline Dries, stated that the series will not feature villains from the Arrowverse, but will instead tackle those from the library of villains from the Batman and Batwoman comics.

Batwoman premieres October 6th.

The game is being ported to current-gen consoles thanks to Panic Button and publisher Perfect World.

The newest version of the game will come with all the upgrades one would expect from a remaster, including upgraded controls, gameplay systems and a UI catered to each consoles requirements.

The developers behind the remaster are also responsible for the Switch ports of Warframe, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, Doom and the Switch version of the last game from Runic Games, Hob.

More and more Kiwis are embracing LEGO, according to PriceSpy, the fully impartial price and product comparison site.

The site witnessed a massive increase in the percentage of consumers clicking on LEGO products, up by almost 70% during the month The LEGO Movie 2 was released, which reportedly earned $164.6m globally a month after it was first screen in April 2019.

Liisa Matinvesi-Bassett, New Zealand country manager for PriceSpy, says: “LEGO is a massive household name that resonates with kids young and old around the world. Whilst its products remain popular across the year, our latest research reveals just how influential the LEGO movie franchise is for the brand. For example, during the film’s opening month, our historical data insights show that the percentage of consumers clicking on LEGO products grew by 67 percent in April compared to the month previous. We also saw the biggest peak in clicks received for LEGO products appear between the 17th and 19th April (the days following the film release) and overall, our numbers also reveal popularity for LEGO products have increased 18 percent year on year.

“However, when we take a look back at our insights before the movie launched, the percentage of clicks received for LEGO products tell a different story. For example, in February 2019 the percentage of clicks received for LEGO products grew just four per cent compared to January 2019. In March 2019, the percentage of clicks actually decreased by two per cent, compared to the month prior.”

Liisa continues: “Interestingly, whilst you might expect the most popular LEGO products during the movie’s launch month to be those aligned with The LEGO Movie 2, our findings suggest its actually the older and significantly more expensive items that consumers appear to be more interested in. For example, no products associated with The LEGO Movie 2 were found listed within our top ten most popular LEGO products during the film’s launch month and all the items appeared to be released between 2016 and 2018.”

Top ten most popular LEGO products in April 2019 (based on clicks*) Today’s lowest price Year of release
1 LEGO Ideas 21312 Women of NASA $59.99 2017
2 LEGO Boost 17101 Creative Toolbox $240.00 2017
3 LEGO Creator 10261 Roller Coaster $599.00 2018
4 LEGO Creator 10258 London Bus $189.00 2017
5 LEGO Star Wars 75192 Millennium Falcon $1489.95 2018
6 LEGO Technic 42096 Porsche 911 RSR $228.00 2018
7 LEGO Star Wars 75159 Death Star $899.99 2016
8 LEGO Creator 10220 Volkswagen T1 Camper Van $149.00 2011
9 LEGO Duplo 10875 Cargo Train $189.00 2018
10 LEGO Technic 42083 Bugatti Chiron $649.00 2018

Source:  PriceSpy

Liisa concludes: “Based on our historical insights, you can certainly see just how valuable the LEGO movie franchise is to LEGO as a business, not just for the products that are aligned with the film release itself, but for its brand’s entire range.”
