Learning to fold clothes neatly is a useful skill that requires good hand-eye co-ordination. It is also great for children’s mathematics. We want to do so much for our kids, but its more important to enable them to stand on their own feet and not involving our kids in household chores is doing more harm than good… honestly! I’ve met many a mother who expects their daughters to help in the household chores while their sons are brushed away for fear they’ll massacre the equipment.

It’s high time we involve our son’s too in household activities not only for ourselves but for their own well being.

One method I found useful is storing clothing in drawers, folded into rectangles that can easily stand up vertically, instead of piling clothes on top of each other. So, I dedicated two dresser drawers for each child’s clothing – one for tops and bottoms and one for pyjamas, socks, and undies. And the best part is that my kids can easily see all of their clothes and pick what they want to wear without disrupting the whole storage system. They can also easily put away all of their own laundry. I can’t believe how much more storage space we have in their room now, just from folding their clothing in a different way!

Kids will likely need some help and motivation to complete these laundry chores. These chores are not intended to be done independently by your child, even after they’ve learned the appropriate skills. I’ve found it works best to work beside your child folding your own laundry as they work on folding theirs. Also this can be turned into a game such as who folds the most number of clothes within a time-span.

Instead of piling your tees on top of one another and then rummaging through the stack every time you’re looking for your favorite, use this trick. It fills the drawer more efficiently and lets you see your entire collection at once.

Compress them into tiny rolls :This compact method reduces your T-shirt collection to the size of sock by turning the bottom half inside-out.

Fold jeans four times:
It might feel like overkill, but this super condensed way of folding jeans allows you to store ’em horizontally and pack more pants into each drawer.

Minimize bulky sweaters: Hanging your coziest knits stretches out the shoulders, but there’s not denying they’re total drawer hogs. Try folding the sides in so all your sweaters have the same width — they’ll stack more easily that way.

When clothing and linens are folded well, you can organize your closets and drawers better and save space. Plus, everything will look tidy, and you’ll prevent wrinkles. From shirts and dresses to fitted sheets and towels, most fabric items can benefit from a tight and neat fold.

You teach them to read. You teach them to look both ways before crossing the street … and to be kind to others, and to brush their teeth before bed. But have you taught your kids how to do the dishes?
We want to do so much for our kids, but its more important to enable them to stand on their own feet and not involving our kids in household chores is doing more harm than good… honestly! I’ve met many a mother who expects their daughters to help in the household chores while their sons are brushed away.
It’s high time we involve our son’s too in household activities not only for ourselves but for their own well being.

My little one helping arrange the dishes.

One task which is rather seen as mundane is to teach kids to do the dishes so that they have all the necessary skills far before the time they leave home.

Washing dishes seems like a never-ending chore. Children who are trained properly can be a big help at washing dishes. Whether you are teaching your children to use a dishwasher or wash dishes by hand, the best way to start is with scraping and rinsing. Once a child reaches a certain skill or age level, he can generally do the chores for his age group.
Even five-to-six-year olds can be taught how to scrape and rinse their plates. Seven-to-eight-year olds can help with drying and putting away dishes. By age nine, kids are ready to learn how to wash different types of dishes or load a dishwasher. Be sure to teach safety principles.

Cleaning up after oneself is an important life skill – something that every child should learn, not just to endear themselves to future roommates or spouses, but to feel like a contributing member of the family unit. Children may grumble at first, but ultimately, they want to be useful.

Don’t underestimate your little ones! As a parent, you will know when your child is ready to take an active role in cleaning tasks in the home. At the appropriate age, you may want to introduce them to dishwashing detergent – whether you use a single-load packets, powder or gel. Remind them that the cleanser is not a toy and not something they should put in their mouths or eyes. And they should always read and follow the directions on the label and wash their hands after handling any cleaning product.

Children can learn a lot from doing household chores. Doing chores helps children learn about what they need to do to care for themselves, a home and a family. … and sharing the household chores can also help families work better and reduce family stress. When children help out, chores get done sooner, and parents have less to do.
It’s wise to involve our son’s too in household activities not only for ourselves but for their own well being.

Being mindful about what we bring into our space means I spend less time shopping, organizing, and tidying up. Buying fewer things that are better quality also reduces clutter and waste.
I am on a mission to simplify our home – it has been a mind shift to really believe and act accordingly to the saying that “less is more” but I am enjoying the change in lifestyle so much.

After tackling my own wardrobe, it was time to get onto the kids’. Adding bins and baskets to kids’ closets helps control clutter buildup. Use a variety of plastic bins and baskets to accommodate different-sized items.

Creative way to fold clothes in drawers – Simply fold the clothing into thirds or quarters with the folded edge up. This makes it really easy to see what clothes are in the drawer, and take one half way through the drawer and won’t make a mess!
Plastic Drawers – Add extra space to a closet, these are particularly good if you are renting so you can easily take it with you when you move.
Rotating seasonal clothing in and out of the closets is no easy task. For items that we know will be used again next season, we use designated bins to keep things tidy.

Use hangers to display everyday accessories. This trick is just for those everyday items that you wear week in, week out. I’m talking capd, scarves, belts and more. This will remove the need for clunky accessory boxes, freeing up more space in your tiny wardrobe for more important things.

Alternatively, you can break down the clothing your baby outgrows by sorting it into a few different baskets. Consider one exclusively for old toys, one dedicated to items that will be donated and a third for items that you’ll hand down to the next child in your rotation.

Don’t underestimate your little ones! I have been so impressed with my son! He’s loved having more responsibility.

One task which is rather seen as mundane is to teach kids to do laundry so that they have all the necessary laundry skills far before the time they leave home.

Here are a few simple ways that I have found useful to help make laundry day stress-free for both me and my son!

  1. We have a front loading washing machine and my son finds it fun to fill in the clothes to be washed from the sorting bin.

Step 1: Create a child-friendly laundry area.

Here are the items you will require:
-Sorting Bins
-Step Stool
-A detergent with an easy pour spout

Step 2. Teach them to use the washing machine. Every washing machine is so different, so you’ll have to customize your instructions based upon your machine. Make sure that they take the time to go through all the settings, buttons and explain how they all work and what they mean! Talk to them about the best choice of detergent.  Make sure you educate the kids on how to follow the recommended dosing instructions by matching the detergent amount with the load and soil level.

Step 3: Teach them how you’d like them to fold the clothes.  Take the time to show them how to fold all the items. Here are some key points:

– How to turn socks, shirts, etc right side out.
– Pair socks
– Lay t-shirts out, so they won’t wrinkle.
– Pair pajamas
– Folding shorts & pants

Step 4: Show them how to put the clothes away properly, taking one pile at a time, otherwise items end up being put away sloppy.

Don’t under estimate your little ones! I have been so impressed with my son! He’s loved having more responsibility and it’s so nice to have him be able to do at least some of the laundry in our house.

I love this video – I seriously want to cheer with them!

Baby skin is different from the adult skin as it is much more delicate and sensitive, making it more susceptible to environmental fluctuations such as changes in humidity and temperature. Hence it is more prone to allergies, infections, rashes and irritants.

The skin is a baby’s first line of defence against the external world, therefore, caring for baby’s skin may require special attention and protection to keep it healthy. Even though taking care of baby’s skin may appear complicated, the important thing to remember is to keep it suitably moisturized and hydrated at all times. A baby’s skin is also vulnerable to allergies triggered by the use of harsh products. Chemical soaps and shampoos, harsh detergents, and over bathing should be avoided.

What is skin pH? What is pH 5.5?
You know that the normal body temperature is 37 degrees, the normal blood pressure is 120/80 similarly the skin has a pH value of 5.5.
The pH is measured on the pH bar 0 indicating acidic and 14 indicating alkaline. The pH of water is 7 which is neutral. Normal, healthy skin has a pH of 5.5 which is slightly acidic and Sebamed products also have a pH of 5.5.
pH 5.5 leads to soft and smooth skin, aids in skin renewal and imparts a healthy glow to the skin and guards skin from infections.

Sebamed is a brand of skin care products which are developed by a dermatologist and can be used even by people with sensitive skin. The unique feature is that all Sebamed products have a pH of 5.5, which is the pH of normal healthy skin.

The skin’s acid protection mantle protects against harmful environmental influences and pathogens. A neutral pH value harms this protective barrier function and can in the worst case even destroy the skin’s surface, i.e. lead to dehydration, irritation and allergies. pH neutral – pH value 7- is not the right value to keep skin healthy. Skin exposed to pH neutral products needs several hours in order to regenerate again. With modern care substances, humidity can be regained and a protective barrier function restored. Nevertheless, with pH neutral products these effects are diminished and neutralized. Optimal protection and compatibility with the skin is only achieved with a pH value of 5.5. Many consumers assume that pH neutral products are skin compatible, i.e. skin friendly. As a matter of fact such products represent a wide variety of pH values, among them also very acidy or leachy ones that can severely damage sensitive skin. Sometimes the pH value can also change during storage time.

How to Take Care of Baby’s Skin?

Here is a list of baby skin care tips home remedies:

1. Cleaning

It may be enough to simply sponge the baby clean during the initial weeks after birth with particular attention to the mouth and diaper area of the baby.

2. Bathing
Make sure you use a mild baby wash and lukewarm water to bathe the baby and use soft, cotton towels to gently pat the baby dry.

3. Natural products
Natural and organic baby products which are devoid of any chemicals are a safer option than perfumed or harsh antibacterial products which may cause rashes and dryness. Be mindful of your baby’s reaction to any probable reactions to the products being used.

4. Diaper rash
Select diapers that are absorbent and soft and change the diapers immediately after the baby has soiled it in order to avoid rashes and skin infections.

5. Massages
Massages are a great way to bond with your baby. Gently massaging the baby’s skin with natural oils also helps in nourishing and moisturizing it.

6. Cotton clothes
It is best to clothe the baby in loose cotton clothes as they are soft, more absorbent of sweat and therefore comfortable.

7. Moisturizing
Moisturizing is a vital step in skin care for babies, as baby skin is prone to dryness. Applying moisturizer after bathing may help lock in the moisture and keep the skin supple and hydrated. Alternatively, ointments or baby lotions may also be used.

8. Gentle detergents
It is advisable to always wash the newly bought clothes and bedding of the baby before using them with a gentle, non-perfumed cleaner to free them of any germs and to soften them. Also, bear in mind that baby’s clothes may be washed separately from the family’s laundry.

The single most important thing to remember when it comes to baby skin care is to handle it with extreme care. Make sure you wash your hands clean before touching your baby and maintain a high degree of personal hygiene.

It is advisable to use Sebamed baby products because they are highly recommended by pediatricians in India. Also, Sebamed products guarantee a strict sustainability of the pH value 5.5. and are developed by a dermatologist and can be used even by people with sensitive skin.

In 2014, the National Crime Records Bureau of India reported 5,650 farmer suicides. The highest number of farmer suicides were recorded in 2004 when 18,241 farmers committed suicide. The farmers’ suicide rate in India has ranged between 1.4 and 1.8 per 100,000 total population, over a 10-year period through 2005.
Source: Wikipedia

One can address the solution only if the nature of the problem has been identified in the first place. The five main problems facing Indian agriculture are Uncertainty in the water supply, Lack of remunerative income, Fragmentation of land holdings, lack of access to formal credit and insurance and Allied infrastructure.
These problems have been analyzed and some recommendations have been made by the Swaminathan report. Its full implementation and necessary improvisations on the ground are perhaps the solutions to the problem.

Agriculture is a high-risk economic activity; as per World Bank, the percentage of irrigated agricultural land in India is 36% (2013). Almost 2/3rd of farmers in India are dependent on monsoon rains. The variation of rainfall in each region is also uncertain. Another major reason for farm distress is the fluctuation of the market prices even though their input costs are fixed. Therefore it is important to ensure that the farmer gets a higher price for his/her produce.

The time has, therefore, come when we should focus more on the economic well-being of the women and men feeding the nation than just on production. In this context, I’m glad to discover Farmveda food products. Farmveda is an organization that started in a small way, back in 2005 with farmers from Gunipalli deciding to work together for their mutual benefit. Gunipalli is in Bukkapatnam Mandal in Anantapur District, AP. Farmers were not getting the right price for their produce after months of hard work during the agriculture season. A few outsiders from a then small NGO called the Centre for Collective Development (CCD) helped the farmers work out their aspirations. Today there are over 25,000 + farmers working together across 3 districts and is slowly spreading to other States.

As of now, all profits are shared with farmers cooperatives. and in the long run, the ownership will also entirely go the farmers of India and for this reason, it’s stated Farmveda – owned by the farmers of India with a goal to raise farmers of India to prosperity.

Farmveda products can be categorized as Idli mixes, dosa mixes, breakfast mixes and ready to eat options.

Farmveda products are yummy, nutritious, free of preservatives and most importantly supports a very worthy social cause by uplifting the agricultural community in India and helping farmers earn their livelihood with dignity. Their products are available on Amazon and Big basket in Bangalore, Hyderabad and also in physical stores such as Namdhari, MK retail, and other supermarkets.

For more information visit their website and Facebook page.

Educational apps are a great and fun way to keep your kids learning outside of the classroom. In a supervised environment, children as young as three or five are able to engage in learning activities using smartphones and tablets of all kinds. Games and activities that engage children in thinking skills like memory games, puzzles, spatial reasoning activities, nurturing skills and creative skills such as drawing, making music are great choices.

Are you a parent looking for educational apps that engage children’s brains and allow them to have fun while they’re learning?

I’ve discovered a unique new fun learning app called Lipa Land for kids aged 3 to 6 years, which is a family learning app developed by educational specialists and is approved by the kidSAFE Seal program. Lipa Land was founded on the dream that technology at home and in school can be used for much more than mindless gaming and distraction, it encourages kids to ‘use the device to get out of the device’ and balance their use of technology. The activities are designed in a way that kids do not sit indoors glued to their tablets, but they’ll be inspired to explore the outside world. With family activities like crafts, puzzles, stories, and experiments, there is a plethora of content to keep kids engaged.

The educational experts at Lipa Land have created a comprehensive curriculum with 8 areas of development sufficing the essential skills for a well-rounded childhood:

• Social-Emotional Balance (Social Skills, Emotional Competence, Ethics and Values)

• Physical Wellness (Gross motor skills, Fine motor skills)

• Academic Competence (Language, ESL, Maths, Science, Arts)

• History & Culture (Culture, History, Philosophy)

• Healthy Lifestyle (Body Care, Healthy Eating Habits, Biorhythm, Health & Relaxation)

• Environmental Awareness (Loving & Admiring Nature, Respecting & Helping, Exploration & Experimenting)

• Autonomic Capabilities (Spatial Ability, Attention, Creativity, Memory, Logical Thinking, Learning Motivation)

• Hygiene & Safety (Outdoor safety, Encountering the Unknown, External Hygiene, Indoor Safety, Personal Care) Recently I was teaching my son about the solar system and found this fun activity called ‘My Planet’ on Lipa Land to help children improve their knowledge about the solar system and characteristics of each planet.

On the occasion of a play date, we found a fun activity called ‘The Royal Crown’.

Kids enjoy dress up and pretend play activities, especially when they involve crafts we make ourselves.

These crowns were fun to create and sparked endless hours of imaginative play.

Find ideas like this and many others involving imagination and creativity in the Lipa Land app.

What Are Probiotics?
Probiotics are live bacteria and yeasts that are good for you, especially your digestive system. We usually think of these as germs that cause diseases. But your body is full of bacteria, both good and bad. Probiotics are often called “good” or “helpful” bacteria because they help keep your gut healthy. Probiotics can be found in supplements and in certain foods, like yogurt. Doctors often suggest them to help with digestive problems.

What Do They Do?
Among other things, probiotics help send food through your gut by affecting nerves that control gut movement. Some of the common conditions they treat are:

  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)
  • Infectious diarrhea (caused by viruses)
  • Diarrhea caused by antibiotics
  • Skin conditions, like eczema
  • Urinary and vaginal health
  • Preventing allergies and colds
  • Oral health
